external microphone when recording video - Google Pixel 4a 5G Questions & Answers

Has anyone successfully recorded videos on the 4a 5G and used an external microphone? If so, which microphone was it that worked and gave you good audio in the recording?
In a similar thread on the 3a, many people said and external mic should work but, apparently, it didn't.

Since there were no replies to my question, I wanted to report what I just found out. I bought the following from Amazon for $14: PoP voice Professional Lavalier Lapel Microphone Omnidirectional Condenser Mic for iPhone Android Smartphone,Recording Mic for Youtube,Interview,Video and it does work with my pixel 4a 5g. Two things that you need to know, though. One is that you have to select external mic from within the video recorder options pulldown. And, two, you need to unplug the mic to hear the playback when watching your recordings because when it's plugged in, the phone thinks there is a headset attached.
Since I just got it, I don't really have any feedback on the mic itself beyond the fact that it works and it's cheap.

Recording sound with external mic?

Hello guys!
I m a very happy user of my diamond and this forum...
I was wondering if there is any application that would allow to record using and external mic , plugged in via a usb - 3,5mm jack for example.
Then i can stop carryin my Iriver h340 thats getting pretty heavy!
Isn t there a tool that can also update date and time automatically ?
Thanks in advance and big up for all the cookers!
As far as I know, the Notes application is able to record from an external mic just like the fixed mic. Just go to Menu > View Recording Toolbar.
There are several applications to sync the time, can't think of any off the top of my head.
The supplied headset has an external mic in it, you should be able to hack into it and solder on a jack socket, then plug in any mic. In theory you should also be able to do the same with a BT headset.
You need "synchrotime" to correct time and date via the internet.
these were quick answers!!
I was more thinking about recording rehearsals and concerts , so more like a dedicated application were u can choose the sample rate m and also the format for ex wave or mp3 plus a gain control...

Pardon me for digging up old bones, but I've been searching for an answer to this for a bit now...
Like the OP asked, is there an app out there for recording audio from an external mic plugged into the 3.5mm jack? I own a Samsung Galaxy S (Fascinate) and know that the hardware side of this topic is covered.
The only "Notes" application I have is notebook. I have audio recorder, but that doesn't have any such settings to choose from an external audio source (and I've tried to see if it just switches to that source if it is plugged in, no luck).
This would make life so much easier for me if I could pull this off. I'd pay for a decent app that covered that.

In a twist to this question/ request.
I am and have been looking for an app also that will be able to utilize the external mic 3.5 mm jack to record audio to the built-in video application.
NATIVE! not hacked or Jerry-rigged. I tried this by plugging in a headset /mic to the external mic port on an EVO and HTC Incredible and it still seemed to use the regular mic on the phone not the 3.5 mm jack.
I'd like to use my incredible/ EVO/ (and rumored HTC Incredible HD) to be able to connect a lapel mic with transmitter and receiver so audio sounds local without echo from a distance.
Plus I could have 2 people miced up and one video camera.
There is no reason why this shouldn't work.
We are not talking power just software access.
If the notes apps uses it to record why can't the video app use the same port.

Way to record audio on Android using external mic
Hi.
You have to buy adapter which will split the signal for microphone in and audio out (you probably know 3.5 jack in your phone is 2 directional as it supports headset with mic)
You can try to look for it on Amazon (headset buddy)
or solder into headset in the pins which are responsible for mic signal.
Then,
I know only 1 app for android which supports recording from external microphone:
Arabela Audio Recorder - choose DEFAULT audio source and it should catch the signal from external mic connected through adapter via 3.5 jack.
I THINK it can catch the audio while recording video because it works in background ... so later you will be able to remove the audio from video recording and join it with the one you recorded using Arabela with some kind of video editor
regards
If you need a adapter for the phone, then check what i did here in this thread:

There are also link to a app which can record video with the external microphone

I think any mic with 4 pole jack should work without any adapters. Like the one's used on iphones etc. Check on ebay for iphone microphone. I ordered a cheap one $1.80 just to test on my SGSII but im 99% it's going to be working. There are some high quality for about $30 as well. Like this one HERE

Samsung Galaxy Camera External wireless microphone

Hello everyone.
I need some help.
I have a Galaxy Camera I use to record press conferences.
Sometimes I can not be near to the speaker and the audio is low.
I have a very limited budget and can not buy an external microphone professional.
I tried to use Btmono and a bluetooth headset, but the camera app only uses the microphone of the machine. If I install a voice recorder, still works perfectly coupled Btmono and bluetooth headset.
I have seen that there are transmitters and receivers bluetooth with 3.5mm attack, but I do not know if it will work; in case I have no idea how I could connect everything.
Do you have suggestions?
Thank you all for any suggestions
You can just use an inexpensive RF mic system like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Pro-PDWM...410100237&sr=1-1&keywords=wireless+microphone
To connect it to your Galaxy Camera, you'll need a 6.5mm to 3.5mm adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-3-5mm-Stereo-6-35mm-Adaptor/dp/B003R70OA4/ref=pd_bxgy_MI_img_z
And then you'll also need this adapter since the mic port on the Galaxy Camera is a combo headphone/mic port:
http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-mic.htm
Clip the mic and transmitter somewhere close to the speaker (podium?) and plug the receiver with all the adapters into your Galaxy Camera. Should work pretty well for under $50.
I also use an inexpensive knock-off "shotgun" mic which provides a very directional mic function, even in a crowd. You would need the km iphone mic adapter above to use this mic on your Galaxy Camera as well.

Hope this helps -- good luck.
Thanks internetpilot for your replay.
I had already purchased:
http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Pro-PDWM...410100237&sr=1-1&keywords=wireless+microphone
and
http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-3-5mm-Stereo-6-35mm-Adaptor/dp/B003R70OA4/ref=pd_bxgy_MI_img_z
But not this
http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-mic.htm
The result was that virtually did not work; so now I'll try to do that too and then purchase'll let you know if it all works.
Have you uploaded a video on youtube using these components?
Thanks

I have not uploaded any videos from my Camera 2 yet because I literally just bought it the other day. However, after seeing your question and knowing that I would want to use my wired lapel mic as well as my shotgun mic the Camera 2 for my son's YouTube videos, I bought the KVConnection iPhone mic adapter, received it, and tested it with my shotgun mic and it works perfect. If you haven't ordered it yet, I chose the one with the right-angle plug rather than the straight plug and I'm glad that I did.

Possible to use an external microphone?

So, I recently got my unit and been trying to get it to work with an external microphone. I have puluz shotgun mic that connects via 3.5mm jack. I have a headphone adapter so I was trying to get it to work with open camera. No dice.
Anybody got an external microphone to work?

I've not used a proper external mic, though I've a Mi Youth wired headset that works just fine.
I read of someone being unable to get a usbc mic to work

I'm planning to use the shotgun mic for videos so I wouldn't have to get a label but if I can't make this work, I doubt a label would.
I've only tested it with my mic so I don't know if it's a compatibility issue or not since I tested the mic on my PC and it works just fine. I hope this is not a hardware limitation.

Not sure what you mean by "a label" (maybe a lapel mic?)
Also I'm not sure if my post was clear that the mic function of my wired headset works fine.
Suggest you have a look at the poles on your microphone jack. Fwiw my headset has 4 poles, though I couldn't tell you which is which.
It tends to be that poles 1 and 2 are left and right audio, 3 is ground and 4 mic - it's possible that Xiaomi use a nonstandard set up on their devices but unlikely.
Depending on the poles on your mic you could probably pick up an adapter plug to switch the poles about or else use insulation tape to blank off some of them

Yep. Lapel mic. Auto correct kept changing it. I bought an adapter so I would have 4 poles but still not working. I tested the mic if it actually works and it worked fine in my PC.
Boya Lapel mic Works with POCO F1
i tried Boya mic with default camera app and it does not work.
I tried with other third party camera app from Play store which allow us to customise the mic settings
I set external mic in the setting and shot a video. Boya works fine with poco f1
Whixh third party camera app?
I've tried open camera but it doesn't work with my BOYA BY-MM1. Can you please share which camera app you got your pocophone to work with an external mic.
A microphone and an app to record sound properly
If you go to this link:
a2zapk.com/345718-easy-voice-recorder-pro-2-5-7-b11089-paid-a2z.html
you have the "pro" version of this app, is really pro. You can record in .WAV lossless if you change it in settings, also in stereo and with 48Khz...
Download it, go to setting and change everything to the maximum quality.
Also have a noise reduction and echo reduction
And the mic can be:
BOYA BY-M1
I hope you like it! :good:
Works with the open camera app

I used open camera. go to setting and change audio source to external mic. The default app doesnt let you use the external mic is a shame. I am creating a video checking the quality of the mic right now, will post it in a day on my youtube channel trouvaille -by Aamir
This is the best Android app for recording audio (interview etc), also good for video shoots to edit & sync later:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.pfitzinger.rec
I have the same problem on my poco f1
I tried using my lapel mic, boya mic, shotgun mic all mics faiked to tecord soubd through external mic. The video gets its sound from intetnal mic by default. I ttied all settings but no use.
Its a shame we are not able to use external mic on such a device with good video capapbility.
Not tried any third party apps yet. Plz suggest the besy one that really works.
I use a USB mic blue snowball. With a USB c converter and software from play store. That works.
Some info on 3.5mm connectors on this page: http://www.epanorama.net/newepa/2014/09/15/android-device-external-mic-wiring/
Most (if not all) android phones use the AHJ pinout.
Any solution for this?
Which type is Pocophone?

Hi. Does Pocophone F1 use AHJ or OMTP? Thanks.

primary microphone broken

I have a Moto X4 running Android 9.0 (pie). Recently, I have noticed that its microphone is not working in calls i.e. person on the receiving end can not hear my voice, only noise instead. And after searching for possible workarounds, I tried to put it on speakerphone but to no avail, noise still persists. But when I try to record a video via camera app, it records audio clearly without any noise whatsoever.
It has a primary mic and two noise cancellation mics. It seems to me that the primary mic has gone bad and the other two mics are being used in video recording.
So my question is, is there any way to use/force secondary microphone as a default mic through build.prop or some other alternative?
Headphone jack seems to be broken too, so I can unfortunately not use any earphones as external mic.
Please help.
I'm facing the same issue ,have you found any hack for that ?

Question After last updates external mic not more work in many applications.

- If I plug my USB-C lavalier and record a video with the camera app, now I hear only a rustle.
- If I use it in the Logitech Mevo or Logitech Mevo Multicam application connected to the external camera, (it has worked for months) plugged mic no longer works.
I'm going crazy and as I need urgently it to get my channel going for the outdoor streamings I'm really thinking of selling it and going back to the Pixels.
I can only use the recorder application whith my mic it works correctly so the microphone is not broken but there is something in external mic recognitions with other apps (like camera and others)
There is no technical support
