recovery mode - Sony Xperia 10 Questions & Answers

so I have seen some of the brick threads for this phone but i don't know exactly which one i should use. when i hold the power and volume down and let go when i see the sony logo it should boot into recovery mode but what it does is reboot and i see the sony logo again then boots into the phone. The phone works at least using it without cellular service because i haven't bought a sim for it yet. It won't boot into recovery and im hoping im able to save it. i did unlock the bootloader with the sony key that was given. so any help would be appreciated
thanks

[Q] Stuck on Htc Logo and can not power off

Hi Everyone;
I unlocked my phone for flashing custom rom. After unlocking i reebooted it and was normal. Then i flashed cwm via htc one toolkit. It was successfull as well. Then i go to cwm and made factory reset + wipe cache + dalvik cache. Then i go to install zip from sd card but i could not find my rom file. Thought, it was deleted while unlocking device. Then decided to reboot phone again to copy rom file into the phone and reboot.
But, when i rebooted phone from cwm, it stuck on HTC Logo( Quietly Brilliant screen). Waited sometime, but nothing happened. Then i tried to power off it and boot into bootloader or recovery. I press and hold power button but it does not respond anyhow. When i am holding power button ,back and home buttons are blinking but nothing happens. Almost five minutes i waited as holding down power button but phone does not power off anyhow. i tried all methods like vol down + power, vol up + power and both volume keys + power. But really nothing happens, just blinking back and home buttons. That's all.
I can not simply power off device. :crying:
I also tried boot device via fastboot commands but it says "waiting for device" means computer does not recognize device.
Guys, i need an urgent help. Please...
just keep trying to reboot via holding power or power+vol down. if it doesnt reboot after 30 sec or so let go then try again. if that doesnt work you will have to wait for the battery to die. once you get to bootloader use all in one toolkit to erace cache. then boot to recovery and you rom should be there if not boot back to bootloader and sideload rom

First thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunatelly, power+vol down does not work at all. Maybe i tried 50 times.
Anyhow, after battery die. How can i boot into bootloader. I mean, can phone be charged again in this situation? Also, even if i manage to boot into bootloader or recovery how can i put custom rom file into phone. Actually, i did not use sideload or whatever you mentioned before.
I am serouisly confused now and don't know what to do.
Anyhow, as you said, firlst i need wait to battery die i think. Then i will report back whats happen.
Thank you again btw.

yes your not the first person with this problem. hold power+vol down to get into bootloader. press power button in bootloader to get in fast boot mode. use all in one toolkit to erase cache and side load rom. i recommend all in one toolkit because it automates the process. just select the option then follow on screen steps
Good to hear that i am not the first person That means somehow there is a solution i beleive. Still waiting for battery die. even i had 50 percent battery at the begining but still it holds on I never say again htc battery is bad
I exeprienced that stucking on boot logo several times before with my other htc phones but holding power + vol down/up worked always. This is the first time for me that i faced with power button can not power off device.. Well, ,i hope i wish i can handle out this problem. Definetley with your help.

I am having the same problem and don't know what to do :crying:
Today I just got my One. Unlocked bootloader, rooted, flashed Android Revolution rom. Everything worked fine for a while... I wanted to reinstall the rom because I wanted to change some options in the installer - I did not wipe because it was the same rom (big mistake I guess!!). After making the installation option changes, when it was done it proceeded to reboot but now I am stuck in a white HTC logo boot loop hell... (with the red text at the bottom that says "this build is for development purposes only" etc). Holy crap I never had a phone that I could not remove the battery. I cannot get this back into recovery or ANYTHING, it just keeps looping... computer recognizes it, no problem with drivers or anything it just doesn't stay connected long enough (because of the constant looping) to be able to use the toolkit.
PLEASE any advice?? Can't even shut it down omg. Do I have a $600 brick here? :crying::crying:

Did you read the other posts in this thread? The way you do a "battery pull" on this phone is to HOLD the PWR + VOL DOWN button for ~15seconds. Your capactivie buttons will blink, too. On my device, it took exactly 15seconds to reboot. There have been some reports of some phones that get so stuck that you just have to wait until the battery dies and charge it back up.
Alternatively, if the computer is recongizing it, try to adb reboot recovery to try and get into the recovery.

hi again. this morning my battery finally out. Then i put my phone to the charger and started it in fastboot mode( that is a good new) Then i left it for 20-30 minutes to charge a little bit for flashing custom rom. Then i went to recovery and started adb sideload. Sideload was succesful and finally came to aroma installer of trickdroid. I chose my installation options and started to flash rom but process was frozen on 10 percent. It was saying unmount system, unmount cahce and both of them has notification as "already unmounted". But installation was not going on. Then again i tried to go back fasboot mode again by press and holding power+vol down but unfortunatelly lights are blinking but nothing happens again. I think i need to wait to battery die again.
Isn't it quite weird? Why power+vol down combination does not work for me anytime? So, do i need to wait for battery die in every frozen? Do you have any ideas or comments ?
Do i need to go back to stock first ?
EDIT : Battery was out again and i tried once more. This time installation (trick droid) was successful but it frozen at the end this time. And unfortunatelly i can not restart (power+vol down) it again again Holy crap, i am really pissed off with this problem.
O..K...Finally, i managed to start my phone and now it works... Especially thank you skinsfanbdh for your support.
But still i don't know how to solve button configuration problem. But anyhow i think i won't need quite sometim to use it I hope someone can find a solution for that later.
Guide me with steps please

I had a similar problem with my phone.
What I did was instead of trying to get into recovery, I just went to fastboot and flashed the recovery image again and it work.
You may want to try that. (Flash the custom recovery again).
He cant do that, dont try flash recovery, your bootloader is locked, it wont work.
Hold volume down and power button, you will see home and back flash at the bottom, just keep holding till your phone goes off, then hold then volume down only as the phone restarts, should take you into the bootloader.
What did you do to get it stuck in a boot loop ?

I seem to have a similar issue. The problem is that I do not have enough time to select recovery (nor any other option) from the bootloader menu. The phone reboots again before I can choose and confirm my selection. Any pointers?

You have bootloop in the bootloader? If yes then you have a serious problem, probably hard bricked.

[Q] Tried installing ROM, phone now cannot boot. Please HELP!

Hi, I sorry to bother anyone, but I need help because my phone is not responding and I don't know what to do.
C6603, rooted, dual recovery installed, bootloader unlocked (I think)
So here's what happened. I very successfully installed the existenz ultimate rom on my phone. It was a wonderful rom and everything was going well. However, I accidentally dropped my phone and needed to send it for repair. Before sending it to the shop, I decided to do a factory reset using the option in recovery mode.
When I got the phone back from the repair shop, I wanted to install the same rom. What I did was download the rom installer and then install the zip file using the recovery mode. I went through the AROMA installer and everything, So I thought everything was going fine. When the phone rebooted, it showed the SONY logo, followed by a permanent black screen. The screen is on, it is just black.
I scoured the xda forums and I tried several things, to no avail:
I cannot enter recovery mode.
My PC cannot recognize my phone.
Flashtool cannot recognize the phone. My phone can't seem to enter flashmode, either.
I tried holding the power button and the vol. up button, and the phone does indeed restart (no vibrations), showing the SONY logo, and then I'm stuck with the black screen again.
I hope somebody can help me!
EDIT: I managed to somehow get flashmode working, so I think my phone is fine now! What a false alarm! In case this ever happens to anyone, what I did was to unplug the phone from any source of charging, then proceed to hold on the power button and vol. up button for REALLY long, I think almost 20 seconds. This managed to switch my phone off (it would keep restarting if I didn't hold in down long enough).
download stock firmware and open flashtool & ready to flash, dont connect until it say.connect your usb cable to ur phone, then reboot ur phone when display goes to black connect ur phone to pc whith pressing vol down ,then flash tool detect ur phone and it flash, sorry foe my bad english

Continous booting after unlocking bootlooader

Hi all hope some one can help me here.
Unlocked the bootloader and all went ok (or so it seemed). When I now power on phone it goes into a loop of the Sony logo, Xperia logo, wallpaper and black screen.
I can turn it all off by holding the vol up button and power off button and wait for 3 x vibrates.
I can also get it into fastboot mode (blue led), but unsure about the best way to deal with this.
Any help appreciated.

My god.... I did the same damn thing today.... Same issue, goes into bootanimation for 1-2 seconds and reboots... [really hoped someone answered]
I have tried to reflash the stock rom via Flash Tool and no luck... I'm now trying the repair option in Sony Pc Companion/update service.... I'll let you know if that one was a winner....
I have also tried relocking the bootloader and reflashed the rom and still no luck. I hope Sony Update service will help, if not i'll try Emma update service.....

My goal was to restore the DRM keys... unlocking the bootloader will surely make camera take awful pictures in low light. Unlocking the bootloader usually wipes those DRM keys - some of them control the advanced camera functions like noise reduction. Trust me... It will downgrade the camera quality to a 2005 phone. There is a fix in a related thread. But even with the fix, Xperia ZR takes better pictures and its bootloader locked... I have both and Xperia Z used to take way better pics.

You go to Support Zone, Phone/Tablet Software Update, and then Click on Repair my Phone/Tablet. That's all. It will ask you for model number and after, a long download will start.
Finally solved, re downloaded the zip files and opened with a different unzipping software and all ok now

Did I just brick it??

Does the phone boot up normally other than the Unlocked Bootloader Warning Message? If so, you're just fine. Anytime the Bootloader is unlocked, that warning message just comes up every time you boot up your phone. There is a way to get it off but right now I can't think of where I found it. You can definitely Google it and you'll find your answer there.

That's the problem here! it doesnt bootup !!
Stuck at Warning Bootloader.. !!
And yeah already googled it..there is a way to remove the Bootscreen for warning message!
You can boot in recovery mode to restore your rom.
If you lose TWRP. You can flash recovery by fastboot mode.
You also can backup your phone's data to OTG usb drive by TWRP.
So, the main point is : Can you boot into fastboot mode?
Calm down!

I was just asking because it wasn't clear in your first message. No need to get all worked up over it. I got my phone all messed up a few days after I got it and thanks to some posts on this forum, I was able to get it all straightened out and it doesn't take too terribly long to do it either.
Try following this link to see if you can get your phone out of its funk. This is one that I found doing a quick search on this site. You said that your phone was a XT1052 model right? The URL is http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/stock-recovery-4-4-4-xt1052-t2945946.
Hope that this helps you out. There's another link that was a life saver for me. I'll post it once I find it.

I think this is nothing serious. This has happened to me a couple of times when I was testing my ROMs before for the Desire X and Desire Z. It's just, maybe there's just nothing to boot (correct me if I'm wrong). Just try following this dude's guide on how to return to stock maybe it would help you to get your phone back up and running. Good luck!
Thanks a lot mates!! very pleased for your time !!
Looks all the soutions are possible ones..will surely give it a try!
By the way, I think the phone needs to be charged to flash!

Now I have no idea about what you can do about getting your battery to charge up. Have you tried charging this up on different outlets to see if it may be the outlet that you're plugging it into? There are times that I've had charging issues with my phones because of the outlet I was using.
Too bad this phone has a non-removable battery or I would tell you to get a new battery and see if this helps solve some of your issues. To me, it looks like a call in to Motorola's tech support may be in order. Now one thing that they will ask you and you really need to make sure you've done this is "Are you using the charger that came with the phone?" That's the first thing that they'll have you do and if you've already done that, you can honestly tell them yes when they ask you about that. Also, how long have you had this phone? If it's been less than a year, it may be under warranty if your phone is a developer edition. If you have a developer edition phone, unlocking the bootloader does NOT void the warranty. It only voids the warranty on the non-developer edition phones.
Just some information that you may need when you call tech support. Hope that this helps you out.
Cindy
Im using stock charger only!
now powering it in FASTBOOT... its been an hour again...still indicates battery low!
Thanks for your help all of you!
Twrp will charge the phone while you're in recovery and to flash cm 12.1 or 12 try booting cm11 then dirty flash cm12 and it should boot for you
the problem is when i select recovery it comes back to warning screen''
so to flash anyother recovery.. first i need to charge up..because it doesnt allow to flash in cmd...and in AP FASTBOOT it shows battery is low!

Hold down the power and down volume buttons for about 30 seconds. When you release both buttons this should bring you to a bootloader screen where you have choices like normal boot, boot recovery and the like. Hook the phone to a computer via usb and with adb on that computer flash twrp to the phone...
Fastboot flash recovery twrpfilename.img
Once that is flashed you should be able to go into recovery and get into twrp which will allow the phone to charge
It MIGHT even charge from that bootloader screen I never tried
thanks for that idea dude!
but it doesnt flash...it tells ..flash failure because of low battery
then i tried charging in fastboot!
doesnt work
In which android version was your phone when you started? When you tried to return to stock, which version of Android did you flash?
I guess maybe you downgraded your phone which causes hard bricks.

Yes, if you power off and THEN plug the charger in, it will power back on.
Power it off by pressing and holding the power button until the screen shuts off. Then press and hold volume down, then press and hold power and hold them both for about 4 seconds and then release both to get into bootloader mode.
In bootloader mode, you use volume down to scroll down and then you use volume up to select. You do NOT press the power button when in bootloader mode. Are you pressing the power button when in bootloader mode? Don't do that.
Use volume down to scroll down to recovery, then press volume up to select recovery to get into recovery. Can you get into recovery?

Are you pressing the power button to select recovery? You select recovery by pressing volume up, not power. If you are pressing the power button, that is why you are not getting into recovery.
You do NOT use the power button when in bootloader mode. You use volume down to scroll and volume up to select.

If battery is too low, buy a Motorola factory cable, adapter, or make your own. It will allow the phone to be powered while in fastboot to flash.
