Samsung m51 idle battery drain issue - Samsung Galaxy M51 Guides, News, & Discussion

Attaching the screenshots of two night battery drain.
When,
Wifi off, mobile data off, nfc off, Bluetooth off, always on display off the battery drain is 16% overnight.
When airplane mode is on the battery drain overnight is 3 %.
Not able to point out what is draining the battery.
First 2 screenshots are related to 16% drain.
Next 2 screenshots are related to 3% drain.

Something similiar was reported with M30s ( when I used it ). Seems some Samsung software glitch.
Simply use airplane mode

I feel like after installing the november patch the battery performance has gone down a bit. Also the general performance also seems to have taken a hit in my opinion.

Improve M51 Battery backup do some settings to save more battery life and observe for next 1-2 days, it will give a noticeable difference.
1. Connection>more connections settings> disable
nearby device settings.
2. Location>improve accuracy >disable
A. Wifi scanning
B. Bluetooth scanning.
3. Device care>battery power mode>select "optimised" and "adaptive power saving".
And then click on "app power management >
And enable these 2 options.
A. Adaptive battery
B. Put Unused Apps to Sleep.
4. Long press on each app specially 3rd party app(LIKE FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE) and rarely used apps and also ON "GOOGLE APP" as well, then click on>app info> go to these 3 options below on by one
A. Mobile data> allow background data usage>off
B. Battery >allow background activity >off
C. Notification disable unnecessary notifications like promotional and unnecessary reminder notifications.
5. Go to settings> privacy > permission manager > location, and check which app have accessing your location all the time and if you not using that apps much, then deny access or set as " allowed only while in use"As unnecessary location access by 3rd party app causing battery drain.
6. Go to settings > Google > on device sharing> check which 3rd party apps present there for e.g. if you use paytm, paytm will shared data to show recommendation and suggestion which also cause battery drain
7. Go to settings > account and backup> account > check which app syncing automatically there, and if any app which not necessary to auto sync then click on it and "disable sync"
8. Go to settings >apps>search "weather">click on settings icon right side > change "auto refresh" settings as per your requirements and disable some unnecessary reminder. ( due to auto refresh it continuously consuming battery)
9. If you use Facebook frequently then disable "auto And if you are mostly uses mobile, on wifi connection then also disable "auto play videos" in YouTube.
10. Google >click on 3dot at right top corner>usage and diagnostics off this option.

[GUIDE][CM9/CM10] Battery Optimization

Some of this advice is based upon our current understanding of bugs in CM9 and how to best workaround causes of battery drain until the developers are able to fix their causes. If you have suggestions for further improve this guide, please reply.
Power Saving Options
Google Talk is logged in by default.
You probably did not want this? Go into the Talk app, hit Menu button and Sign Out.
Turn off haptic feedback and touch sounds
By default the phone vibrates when you touch menu options or type on the onscreen keyboard. Vibration uses a lot of power. Sounds when you touch the screen also use a little power.
- Settings > Sound > scroll down to System
Dial pad touch tones - many users like it, others turn it off so it is silent when dialing the phone to avoid bothering other people.
Touch sounds - default touch sound is very subtle so many choose to keep it. You can save a little power if you turn it off
Screen lock sound - also subtle, I personally keep it.
Vibrate on touch - strongly recommend to turn this off if you want to maximize battery life.
- Settings > Language & input > Android keyboard > toggles to the right of it
Vibrate on keypress - turn this off to maximize battery.
Alternatively, you can make the vibration much smaller in Advanced settings near the bottom. Keypress vibration duration settings of 5ms is nice. It is a tiny reaction you can feel from pressing an onscreen keyboard button.
Turn off LED Notifications
- Settings > Display > Pulse notification light
Blinking LED notifications are nice. Unfortunately, the Epic CPU is unable to sleep while blinking the LED because it relies on software timers. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you turn off LED notifications entirely if you wish to maximize battery life. As measured by CPU Spy, maximum CPU deep sleep can jump from 65% to over 95% with this option turned off. You can still hear the notification chime and vibration when you have an incoming message.
- Settings > Display > Pulse low battery light
You may also want to turn this off for the same reason. If you do not, the battery will drain even faster when the battery is already low.
Put Wifi to Sleep while phone is sleeping
- Settings > Wifi (touch the icon on the left) > Menu button > Advanced > Keep Wi-fi on during sleep
Strongly recommended to choose Only when plugged in. The behavior of this option is different from Gingerbread. Rather than turning off the wifi, CM9 instead seems to put it into a semi-sleep state. Data is turned off, but it can recover very quickly when needed. If you want Wifi to turn off entirely, Juice Defender Plus or Ultimate edition is capable of controlling Wifi sleep states while the screen is off. It is uncertain if Juice Defender disabled Wifi really uses less power than semi-sleeping Wifi as set by CM9.
No Signal? Use Airplane mode
- Settings > Battery > Cell standby
If your Time without signal is a high percentage, then your phone's radio is using extra power trying to find a cell tower that does not exist. If you are in rural areas with weak or no cell signal, your phone uses significantly more power as it tries to find a cell tower. Enable airplane mode in order to conserve your battery until you return to civilization.
Turn off Facebook Notifications and Background Data
In the Facebook app, hit Menu > Settings. Uncheck Notifications, and it also turns off background data refresh. This allows Facebook to fully close instead of always running in the background draining your battery and using some previous RAM.
If you want Facebook and its background service to die completely, use this procedure.
- Settings > Developer options > Kill app back button > Enable
From now on, when you are done using Facebook, hold down the Back button. This will completely kill Facebook until you run it again.
Turn off Data and Sync when you do not need it.
Different types of users
Why should your phone be busy while the screen is off?
Juice Defender - understanding the benefits and drawbacks
Reduce the number of applications that start automatically.
Apps you install will sometimes (and in most cases) have triggering events to start those applications in the background when certain events are triggered. In most cases, it is safe to disable that app from automatically triggering and instead launch that app when you want it as you normally would. By reducing the starting of applications, I have found that I also save battery because, well, my phone is doing less work and less work equals more battery.
I have seen some apps autostart even though you have disabled autostart events for that app (unclear yet why that's happening). If you find that is the case, and you want to stop it from running, try moving that app to the SD card using a program such as DroidSail along with disabling events. Why? Apps on SD cards at present do not receive the on_boot_complete event. Please note, this may break some functionality such as widgets.
In order to decide what to disable, you need to understand how you will use the app and whether you need it to run in the background. You can use an app such as Autostarts to control the startup on Android (At the writing of this it costs $1.03 USD).
When selecting apps to disable autostarting in Autostarts, stay clear of ones highlighted in Yellow as they are system apps.
- Look for these key events:
After Startup
Connectivity Changed
Other events can also be disabled but remember, by disabling events that start apps, you can be breaking the functionality that the app gives you. For example, disabling ‘after startup’ on an app such as AdAway will render the webserver that runs as part of that application to not run on boot. Be smart, but disable what makes sense.
If something doesn’t work right and you are not sure what you disabled for that app, simply uninstall it and reinstall it.
Stop syncing things that you don’t use regularly.
You can always manually sync them when you need them.
Access the menu here: Menu -> System Settings -> Accounts and Sync
For example, I use Gmail, Google Contacts, Google Calendar, and Google Browser regularly so I let that sync. I disable Google Currents, Google Docs, and Google Chrome Beta because I rarely use them. When I want to use them (once every couple weeks), I start the app and sync them manually.

Here it seems to do miracles, lots of persistent services that refuse to close (e.g Poweramp in my case) are automatically hibernated with Greenify.

Sudden battery drain (bad settings by accident) on Paranoid

Hey guys,
I'm running the Paranoid Android ROM. Since a few days I noticed a battery drop of maybe 70-75% (compared to 5-10% before) in flight mode without touching the phone once for about 9 hours.
A few days ago I took the phone out of my pocket and the screen was on and I "touched around" (notepad was opened, also contacts and my alarm clock). Do any settings in there strike you as a possible battery drainer?
In my battery stats, Android System is shown to be using like 75% percent of the battery. Now it's Google Play Services, for some reason (the play store is not turned on, neither maps, neither any sync option as far as i checked it).
I have WakeLock installed:
1013 1m 53s, x163:
--> AudioMix x163
Phone 1m 42s, x452:
--> RILJ x437
Android System, 1m 24s, x607:
--> Activity Manager Launch x233
--> AlarmManager x253
Those are the most striking. Does anything seem off to you?
Thank you very much in advance, I don't know what to do anymore!

I'm not sure if Wakelock does this automatically, but try manually disabling some selections to do with Play Services. I believe this is quite a common issue.
Try Settings > Privacy > Privacy Guard > Menu(3 dots top right of screen and enable "built in apps") > long press Google Play Services > Turn off Wake Up/Keep Awake if not already.
It may help, hope it does.

Unfortunately, paranoid Android doesnt seem to show the system apps (settings -> system -> "app permissions" (translated)). Under "app permissions" I can choose "keep active" (translated), I guess that's the original "Keep Awake". Under privacy the privacy-guard-option-area is missing, so I guess I found the equivalent menu item.
I'm trying the app WakeLock and over the night I didnt lose one percent of the battery! But I would rather like to have deep sleep without an extra app. How the hell could that happen, anyway...
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

[Fix/Tips] Battery drain and performance problems

Hello guys, I want to try to help everyone who has problems with battery life and performance.
First of all, I want to say that you shouldnt have any problems if you use your device in a normal way(calling ,social networking apps, playing light games etc)
A SOT of around 4-5h on mobile network or a SOT of 5-6h on WiFi is really good and in my opinion normal and you shouldnt need to worry about. Over night while you are sleeping (8h for example) your battery shouldnt drain more than 3-5%.
If you have much less SOT or much more battery drain over night, you should read the following steps and try them.
(I can tell you that my OP3 never drains more than 3-4% over night and I have no problem getting 4-5h SOT on mobile network or 5-6h or even more on WiFi use only. I have to say I dont use Facebook or twitter for example, but I have my Bluetooth always turned on because i use a mi band)
Please try the following steps and tell me if it did help you. (Please choose one option in the pool)
1. Activate doze mode and aggressive doze mode in developer options and change the animation scale
- Go into settings -> developer options -> Doze mode -> activate it
- Go into Settings ->Battery ->3 Dots Menu ->Agressive doze & app hibernation ->Tap the slider and activate for apps
- Go into settings -> developer Options -> Window Animation scale/Transitions Animation scale/Animator duration scale -> set them to .5x or even off
2. Install Greenify from Google Play Store and activate it
Activate it for every app you can, except for apps with a little blue cloud as they need to work in background to sync data. (WhatsApp for example)
3. Wipe cache after every update and from time to time (I recommend once a week)
Turn off your phone -> hold power button and volume down button -> release the power when your phone turns on -> select english by pressing the volume down button and then the power button -> go to wipe cache and data -> select cache (and nothing else!) and press the power button -> reboot now
4. Turn off potential power hogs you dont necessarily need
- For example turn off Bluetooth, GPS Location and Location history, Mobile Data if not in use, WiFi if not in use and NFC -> you can find them in settings under their name
- Also turn off things like gestures in settings: Go into settings -> Gestures -> turn them off
5. Use pocket mode
Settings -> Advanced -> Pocket Mode
6. Turn off Android Device Manager and Google Now Cards
- Settings -> Security & Fingerprint -> Device Administrators -> Android Device-Manager -> turn it off
- Open your Google App -> Settings -> Your Feed -> Turn off Feed
7. Configure your WiFi
- Settings -> Wifi -> tap the gear symbol -> turn off "Scanning always available"
- You can also turn off "Keep wifi on during sleep" but i dont recommend it as apps like WhatsApp will only receive messages when you turn your screen back on!
8. Use adaptive brightness
Use the little "A" in the dropdown settings menu next to your screen brigthness bar
9. Use a Browser that is developed for Snapdragon devices
I recommend using Gello Mod or TugaBrowser as they are developed especaily for using with a device with a snapdragon CPU to save battery -> just search for them in Google
10. Disable permissions of apps
Try disabling permissions of apps if possible. This should prevent apps from using your internet connection and staying in background keeping your CPU awake. Please be aware that some specific apps need some specific rights to work properly. Use the try and error method here.
11. If u have custom recovery installed you can use custom kernels such as ex kernel ,boeffla kernel, blu spark etc for better battery and performance.

Hit the thanks button if this helps:good:
These tips are like from 2010 which you come across random articles from web.. I thought you would post something new...
Also 3h sot on mobile network... I have used couple of phones past year never got such a bad backup on any of them..
Really stupid article.
For OB9 and above, what i have found that if you are using both greenify and aggressive doze, battery would drain like hell, Android System used to be always on top of stats with 25-30% of drain. Disabling aggressive doze and just using greenify solved this issue, and now Android System is back to normal.
pls guys, he trying to help .
if it works thanks him, if not find other tips
dont be so rude :fingers-crossed:
Sent from my OnePlus3 using XDA Labs
Wipeing is not necessary if not dump cause the phone has to build it up again and will use resources for that.
Thanks man, in my opinion, it's a good guide for beginners I'm not a beginner, I've just created a new user name
Thanks for sharing all these tips and references. As some mentioned I'd refrain or at least keep greenify as a last resort. Cheers

Check to make sure nothing is set as Device Administrator that's graying it out*.
Setting>Biometrics and security>Other security settings>Device Amin apps
If that's not locking it out another app or setting likely is. Google searches are useful; it can be another Samsung model or OS as the operation, issues and solutions many times tend to be similar. So this is how you can find more solutions for newer Androids.
*My Goggle Play Services disable and stop tabs were grayed out. Until I realized the Find My Device was enabled as a Device Administrator which it automatically does after a reboot.
Disabling it restore the grayed out tabs.

If they're not grayed out simply toggle them off one by one. With Samsung you find occasional miscommunication probably due to technical writers that may not understand what they're writing about. It's funny sometimes.
Worse are hidden double tap to open options and menus. There's a at least one on my 10+ not including the Easter egg and Developer options.

I have about 70 apps with Optimize Battery usage turned OFF.
Then there are about 500 apps with Optimize Battery usage turned ON.
I think I should toggle this off on all 500 or some apps and then see if I this affects performance or notification reception in any way.
Either way, the system will show me if there is an app sucking an egregious amount of power.

I found it best not to use this on my device/OS version (Pie).
As for usage reporting that can be misleading as dependencies may not be reported but be responsible for the excess usage.
Android Services has a huge number of apks under its umbrella; I simply firewall block it as it's rarely needed. Disabling it though will cause issues.
The worst offenders were clearly visible on Karma Firewall's logs which doesn't function on Android 10 or 11.

Question [Origin OS Ocean] How to get push notification from various apps (like social and messaging)

Like the title say, I'm in trouble getting the notification of any app I install : I disabled vivo.pem as suggested in one other thread and allow notofication per single app (that were turned off before) and last disabled the background battery optimization for those apps.
No luck after all, as nothing show up when I send whatsapp mess e.g.
Any ideas?

I had to use the uninstall command on vivo.pem to get my notifications to work, disable didn't help me on the latest firmware.
Also, check the app permissions, hold down app, info, app permissions.
Turn off (remove permissions if app isn't used)
Single permission settings (turn all on the switches), you can also review permissions
Go back 2 screens and select notifications, select all sliders and then check your desired app notification is going out via priority display.
Finally go to settings, battery, background power consumption management, and change the setting for the app you want to not sleep by choosing high background power usage.
So annoying, I know, too many settings and easy to forget one
Good luck!

Thanks for the time spent in the long answer; however still no notifications on the tested app (whatsaap) with all the reccomended settings.
Is since 2015 I think that I don't have a chinese firmware phone and the things have changed, in fact, before, was enough to install play store and all the notification were received without further settings.

Hey Guys,
i also did every setting as told and my Notification for especially WhatsApp isn't working at all.
Sometimes it does, but then all of a sudden it just refreshes when I open the App itself.
I even put it down in the Bar with the 5 Main Apps, in hope those would be refreshed or kept alive in the Background.
Not sure anyway what you mean with uninstalling vivo.pem.
Suckz kind of, because apart from that it really is a great Phone... aside from Android Auto not working.

You have to plug in phone on computerand run ADB command to uninstall vivo.pem.
Vivo.pem is a system that aggressively shut down apps to save battery power, to much shut downs and notifications stop working.
Check the thread "Origin Os initail review" on here and you will find out how to do it. Takes only 10 minutes

After doing the uninstalling did it stop the issue?
I uninstalled, rather than disabled, their power saving vivo.pem, ensured all my apps had priority permissions for notifications, disabled battery saving, and added them to 'autostart' in their respective permissions, and I get proper notifications for all the social media and messaging apps. The only small glitch come with Google Messages which won't display notifications in system wide dark mode. You can get around that by enabling the 'chat bubbles' option in Google Messages settings as they do work in dark mode.
Notifications are not the only issue , i cannot select Mock gps location app in Developer Mode ...
I press on the app i want to use ,but nothing happend , the app is not selected .
Anyone noticed that too ?
Thanks
There is no need to uninstall vivo.pem, I think. Just some few steps:
1. Go to recent apps and lock it.
2. Settings -> Apps & permissions -> App manager -> WhatsApp -> Permissions -> Single permission settings -> Autostart and Startup enabled.
3. Settings -> Battery -> Background power consumption management -> WhatsApp -> Select high background power usage.
4. Settings -> Battery -> More settings -> Disable Sleep mode.
Works fine for me.
Do you use Whatssup? after the latest OS update it cannot connect to linked devices
