Rooting Galaxy S10 Questions - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Please forgive me for asking a question that might have been asked a ton of times, but I can't find a clear answer to this.... Can I root my Galaxy S10? My model is the SM-G973U1 with the Qualcomm/Snapdragon SM8150 processor. I've read a ton of guides and there seems to be a ton of variants of the S10, so to clear up confusion, I just like to know if there is a possibility to root or if I need to sell this thing for a phone that I have more control over. Thank you.

This article is for the note 20, but it might help guide you:
I rooted my US Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and here's what I'm doing with it
The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has every feature you can think of already and costs $1,299, but I bootloader unlocked and rooted it anyway.

StoneyJSG,
Thank you ... and articles like this are why I am asking. In recent, I have read (in a few locations) that there is a possibility to unlock the bootloader with a Snapdragon S10 (USA Model) with a private/non-official online source. Like most, I question the legitimacy of this process as it seems fairly new, nefarious, and there aren't a lot of success stories yet. Again, with a $100 price tag on unlocking a phone, that is another deterrent.
I appreciate the nudge in the right direction. I guess, the better question now is; has anyone utilized an online service like this, and was it successful?

No problem. Yes, I believe the developer and moderator here named egiliwilly (I think that's how you spell his name) has had it done to his phone, but not sure.

Galaxy Note 9 - Will You Upgrade?

If so, why?
If not, why?
Genuinely curious as, for the first time in a long time, I'm quite satisfied with my purchase.
Any grievances I have are minor in nature and, based on the prerelease details so far, the changes aren't enticing enough for me to switch.
Curious to hear your thoughts.
There are already a few threads asking the exact same thing. But I may upgrade once I have this one paid off. Bigger battery, and Bluetooth Spen. Mainly bigger battery.
As the keeper86 says, this has been asked in several other threads, but, well, I will wait for note 10, the 9 will have only some incremental changes not worth for me to spend the ammount of money it will cost, besides, I am VERY happy with my beautiful black 128 GB exynos
Apologies. I didn't make note of the prior threads.
@MikeChannon
Would you kindly close this thread please? Thanks!
I might either stick to the Note 8 longer or get an iphone or pixel 3, the note 9 just doesn't seem that more interesting than my note 8.

SG Note 9 | Exynos 9810 *VS* SD-845

I'm hoping the battery life is not too dissimilar between the two variants, and either should be more than adequate (@ 4,000 mAh) for most users.
Which variant is recommended in terms of:
- Ease of Rooting
- Anticipated custom ROMs & dev support
I will need the Dual-SIM option - Does this mean the global market version (Exynos) will be my de facto choice?
Any other factors to consider between the two chipsets?

I honestly dont understand how you dont know that the snapdragon versions in NA have locked BLs and this has been the case since the s7?
To translate that, there will be ZERO development for the NA snaps exynos is the only option .
The HK and latin snapdragons are not locked but historically there hasnt been much development there oddly enough. Im not sure if there are dual sim models on these...i believe there is but dont quote me lol
People complained about battery life on the exynos s9 plus but mine has been great, with a 4000 mah battery should be outstanding!
Hope i managed to clear some stuff up for you
sent from my Exynos S9 plus, Pixel 2 XL or Note FE
Thanks for that.
I assume there'll be Dual-SIM option in the Exynos flavour - N960FD? Would this be the best option in terms of ROM development?
All my exynos phones including my current s9 plus have been dual sim so for sure the note will also.
Exynos is the best and really only choice for development, the HK unlocked snapdragons never get much love in that regard
Direct orders from Samsung UK are all dual SIM.

Big surprise seeing you here,LOL.......
Quick question regarding Qualcomm (or Exynos, for that matter) & Dual SIM:
I'm aware that China & other Qualcomm markets have Dual SIM options, but,I was wondering if the US & other Single SIM Qualcomm variants are actually the same exact phone, but, the only difference being the SIM Tray & firmware for Single SIM use.
Just curious,as I have T-Mobile DIGITS,so,multi-SIM isn't necessary (for additional T-Mobile numbers) ,as DIGITS allows for up to three lines on one device.
Admittedly,it sounds like a silly question/wishful thinking, but,if it's cheaper to equip all the phones w/dual SIM & just have the firmware & SIM/SD Card holder different...........

From what ive read there are some hardware differences between the dual and single sim versions. People have tried converting single sims to duals but Ive never seen it work.

That's what I figured, but, thought I'd ask you, since you have a lot of time in a lot of various Samsung devices.
I'd really like a Note Active, maybe Samsung will surprise us one year once they've milked the S-Pen for all its worth.
I'm gonna go with a T-Mo variant this year (zero development,I know,I'll make do this year w/a package disabler app or,ADB commands to debloat):

Same here,went to Best Buy,but,a T-Mobile outlet was on the way & I had questions regarding pre-ordering & trade-in.......
Long story short,I was very surprised to see a working demo on display so soon after the official announcement.
T-Mo had the lavendar purple model,it had a richer/darker look than what I'd seen on the various unboxing vids.
Proceeded to Best Buy to get a look at the blue model (only two color choices we have, regardless of where you buy in the US ATM)
Same w/the blue model, looks much richer/darker in person.
Not too crazy about the yellow S-Pen,I'll replace it as soon as extras become available.........
The down payment on T-Mobile 8/512 model SUX ($529),but,if I were to go w/the 6GB model,might as well pick up the Note 8 & save $280 ($720) vs the 6/128 Note 9 ($999)........

You hate the yellow S-Pen? I like it! I would have loved to have been able to buy my black Note 9 with a yellow S-Pen. Should we trade?

Question Note 20 unlock

Hi all. Quick question. I was wondering about the note 20 ultra unlock. Previously I bought a note 10+ but was surprised to learn that I couldn't unlock it in order to root. I don't want to be surprised like that on my next phone purchase. Wondering if there are any specific note 20 models that have the same issue. I haven't found anything about it, but I want to make sure. Thanks in advance.
This is the s21 ultra forum. Do you have snapdragon note 20 ultra? If yes you can unlock it: https://www.sampwnd.com/
Sorry I didn't realize I posted here as it gave me an error. Posted a second time in the correct thread. Thanks for your response regardless.

I have ordered a Tab S8 Ultra, US version with the Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 . It is supposed to arrive in 9 days. So yea, wanting root is for the Tab S8.
It doesnt have any support yet, or even a forum page as it hasnt even been released. This is the forum for the Tab S8, not the S8 ultra. post this in the S8 ultra forum once it releases.
I figured XDA would lump all the S8 Tablets together like they did with the S7 / S7 Plus.
Got my Tab S8 Ultra today. Used the Tab S7+ directions and I'm fully rooted. Going to use Swift Backup and restore all my apps from my S7+. All good to go. Yay.
Getting my S8 Tab Ultra today (unless FedEx screws me). Good to know we have working root (using the S7+ directions) so soon!

Ta but question - What was the Firmware model you entered?
SM-X90x? + CSC?
I cant find anything for it on Frija? Unless I am missing something. The actual rooting shouldnt be an issue

With SamFirm v0.5.0, I was at least able to get the (what SamFirm defaulted to) INU, and also XAR but still didn't find XAA or XAS. Maybe XAR is close enough? I've been out of the Samsung rooting game for ~8 years though, so I only tried what I could find to read about, but hopefully, I'm just missing some piece of information.
I couldn't find anything for SM-X900 in Frija v2.0.22044.1 - with XAA, XAS, XAR, or even INU. Says unable to connect to the server even though SamFirm is working fine.
My Wi-Fi Tab S8 Ultra won't arrive for quite a while, though, so I have time to learn and for others to report back what does and doesn't work.
Ta - See what you mean.
Im worried about putting the X900 boot.img.lz4 on my device incase it wont boot.
I have the X906B. 5G Edition.

I'd be worried too - I recommend holding off unless someone else has some better advice or the firmware shows up. I couldn't find anything for the X906B or even just as X906 with the various U.S. 5G major carrier CSCs, nor XAA, XAS, or XAR. Same with X900 as far as U.S. 5G major carrier CSCs.
Guess what... It booted with the X900 boot.img.lz4 on an X906B ¬_¬
And root is working with no issues to 4G or 5G Cellular...
Although I would advise waiting for official firmware for the model where possible.

If you're planning on using Termux to run Linux / X11 apps on your Tab S8 Ultra (via vnc or similar), you're going to need root due to this issue of Android 12 killing phantom processes https://gist.github.com/agnostic-ap...#how-to-disable-the-phantom-processes-killing
I'm going to hold off until we find a firmware that matches the device, personally, but thank all of you for your research and testing!
EDIT - Guide I used to install kali linux on my Tab S8 Ultra - https://technical-bot.blogspot.com/2021/10/how-to-install-kali-linux-on-android.html Note that I had to replace wget with curl in the .sh files because wget wasn't working correctly.
I found out that notifications for new Android updates won't come when rooted. But what about updates for accessories like the keyboard? I've seen some YouTube videos where they say that for the tab s7, when the new keyboard update came, people were prompted to update after attaching their keyboards.

I would expect Keyboard updates to happen without a problem. Once you are rooted it is up to you to keep your tablet updated ... or not. I usually update a couple of times a year.

I have a Note 9 SM-960F, is it Snapdragon?

Hi!
So, I bought myself a Note 9 (6/128GB) as I was in love with the device when it was released but had no money. Presently, got some spare money and bought myself a refurnished one for about $180. The device looks and works well apart from some scratches at the back which I will put a cover on.
I see that the device name is SM-960F. I searched the net and in most of the places it shows that this model, 960F is the Exynos version. I installed CPUZ and got the result that it has Snapdragon 845! I'm attaching the screenshot here. The bootloader of the phone is unlocked. I am not planning to run any banking/financial app on it. I will just use it with my secondary SIM. The doubt I have is that is it really a Snapdragon version or some sort of trickery (extremally sorry for sounding so noob)
Please help if possible and thanks in advance!
Boot into download mode and show us what's on the screen.
I think this is what you said.... Please see!
And, thanks for the reply!
