Mate 20 Pro- Possibility of unlocking bootloader (culmination of online research and own ideas) - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

From what I can figure out from online research so far:
1. EMUI 10 has removed oem unlock command. I actually emailed them about this and haven't had a reply. It is THEORETICALLY possible to use the flashing command according to fastboot help, but I can't make heads or tails of it.
2. It is THEORETICALLY possible to downgrade to EMUI 9.1 using DLOAD. Look it up. You will lose all data, but you're probably cool with that because you're asking about bootloader unlocks.
3. It is also THEORETICALLY possible to bruteforce the unlock code using a script from SkyEmie on GitHub. Expect it to take multiple days, and to have to install python3.
4. After that, one can find a TWRP build and flash it the old fashioned way. If someone has a TWRP build for LYA-L09 (6 / 128) or can assist me in building one, please @ me, I really want to be able to get LineageOS on here even if I need to self build.
5. Speaking of LAOS... Basic functionality and inscreen fingerprint is probably possible, but biometric face unlock is probably a bit more of a challenge. Graphics drivers for the Mali G76 can likely be borrowed from the Exynos S10, so that's easy enough. Or... Maybe most of this is already done for us with the Android 10 beta build that's probably in an Internet archive somewhere. Are we able to reverse engineer that?
This is all currently theory because the number transfer to my OP8 Pro doesn't complete until tomorrow in my timezone, and I kind of don't want to risk bricking it until then. I am not a developer, however I can give developers here any information they want about the device.
And if the device hasn't been named yet, I vote for rickastley

All great in theory but Option 1 is already no go (unless you can convince Huawei to allow that command in Fastboot)
Option 2 I believe only worked with the beta (or 10.0), once you are on 10.1 there is no way back
And without 1 or 2 there is really no point discussing 3-5.

I actually downgraded to 9.1 using the HiSuite on windows. I was on 10.1. Sorry, but you're wrong.
I actually posted a rant on the Huawei forum. You're right, I got a canned response that they're looking into it, they don't care.
3 is a no go, I don't have 5,000 years. Someone did already make a Kirin ROM (check my other post) back when people did crazy stuff to get unlocks involving money.
The real question is this. Huawei participated in the Android Q beta program with the Mate 20 Pro. That required an unlocked bootloader. How was that done? Did they ask? Was there a workaround? Because the beta program isn't automatic, Huawei had to actually put in active effort for that to happen.

Those who signed up are probably allowed to install a special firmware version with special BL? Not sure who is still on Beta now though

Yes. Latest version. It took two downgrades but it did happen.

Hmm. Interesting. Probably nobody is still on it. We could ask around though. I don't know anyone who participated.

How to root Pixel / XL on 7.1?

I'm wondering what the process for the Pixel devices is, and if anyone has had any success with existing tools/SuperSU.
It's running 7.1 if that's relevant.

I guess I have to wait for custom recoveries that support this phone then? I can't see a build for TWRP that supports sailfish.

You'll first need to unlock the bootloader and then wait for chainfire's magic. It is possible to root through fastboot also so there is a good chance that you'll get root before a custom recovery.
Due to seamless updates, things have changed a bit so it'll take some time to be figured out

Buy it directly from Google and the bootloader won't be locked, only if you buy it through a carrier like Verizon will the bootloader be locked

This is the first device with Android's new partition layout. Having looked at the firmwares and at running devices (remotely), I have some ideas on how to do it.
However, it will be a while before I have SuperSU fixed up. The changes will be quite a bit of work and testing, and doing so remotely will make that take significantly longer. So I'm just going to wait for my own device, but as they aren't available in my country, it has to be shipped from another country and go through customs. I don't expect my device to arrive for another week or two.
In the meantime, it's always possible someone else releases root for it.
I saw @jcase and @Dees_Troy have been playing with TWRP, to me it seems wholly possible to fix that up (mostly) as well. But even if TWRP is released tomorrow, using the existing SuperSU ZIP will not work on it, due to all the breaking changes in Android 7.1.
Will be interesting if you can do it CF... Looking forward to release - Ill send a donation your way when done

If your intent was truly altruistic, you wouldn't feel the "burden" of stating it publicly. So no, it doesn't matter.

Appreciate all you do Chainfire, seriously. Can't wait for you to work your magic
Ah its so funny to what people write after all these years of people spending their own time to work out back doors and exploits to enable root / Xposed / Custom bootloaders / Kernels / Recoveries.
People can't just wait and see and if the devs ask for help or testers just be part of it, throwing a few dollars at them is not going to push things forward . . . let them do what they want to do its their project / baby and it will happen when it does.
Support the devs after the fact dont try and attempt to influence them into it with beer money.
Some of y'all are ridiculous! The guy made a harmless statement and didn't mean anything negative by it. And what do all of the analytical geekers do? Just that... Analyze his comment to the bone and find all sorts of self-serving intent within it. Blows my mind...

Oh shut up. What a stupid thing to say. People are excited about dev work, and if they suggest a donation, what do you care? Why is it any of your business? If the dev has a problem with people providing positive feedback and offering donations, they will make it known.

Hey I've unlocked my bootloader, but with the different partition layout and file based encryption (assuming this device uses that), is there any chance I'll have to erase my data and start over for root?
Because I got the 128GB model and I'm ready to start filling up with apps and keep a big portion of my Google Play music library to save on data and everything but I don't want to do it if there's a real possibility I'll have to erase everything if to achieve root.
I guess it is possible to use a custom recovery (once they come out) to backup, but that'll be a huge backup if I start keeping all my music to the device.

What ever but tour the same guys who's going to be asking for OTAs and asking devs to do this that and the other as fast as humanly possible.
If you want it that bad do it your self or sit and wait like a good little child.
No dev is going to rush something because of some people in a forum get a grip, like I said it's their time and it will be ready when it's ready.
You might think I'm going off on one but read the rules page for Christ's sakes.

The chance you'll have to erase is always present when rooting. Even when your device is fully prepared something may go wrong. At least you have already unlocked your bootloader, which reduces that chance.
File-based encryption will probably not be a reason to for wiping, though. It works fine in the dev version of SuperSU with Android 7.0 on a 5X.

Anyone else getting the feeling there will be no Nougat for our device?

I have a sixth sense for when a device has been all but abandoned, and I am getting that feeling now. Considering they just released a huge MIUI update without the Mix, I can't say I am particularly hopeful for the future of this phone. May be time to throw it up on swappa while it's still worth something.

The "huge MIUI update" you are referring to is MIUI 8.2. If you check your device info, you'll see that the Mix is already running MIUI 8.2. This is why you didn't see the Mix in the list of updated devices.
Now, regarding the Nougat update, considering Xiaomi built a lot of hype with the Mix, it is unlikely that Xiaomi will abandon this device.
But Xiaomi has a history of abandoning some really good devices like the MiPad. So we'll never know.
Well, no, its 8.2 global. A global rom doesn't even exist for the Mix. So I consider that a huge update.
N for the mix is already in testing according to mods on the eu and official forum. Also recently saw a listing for the mi mix EVO with a qc835, plus the CEO wants to build another mix....My gut feeling is this phone isn't going anywhere and we will have N within a quarter. Remember the s7 just got N on carriers in the US this week.

You won't receive any updates as long as you're on the Vendor ROM. You need to flash to the EU ROM or one of the custom ROMs in this forum using the guides provided. The guides are quite straightforward. So you'll safely boot the ROM you want providing you follow the guides EXACTLY.
I personally prefer the Xiaomi.EU ROM and I just checked the languages available on this ROM for you. Found "Norsk Bokmal" in the list of available language options. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is Norwegian. I am not sure though as I don't know the language.
Cheers!

Whilst in no way invalidating the examples of times when their support wasn't great, there have also been times when Xiaomi's support for their devices has been well-above-average - someone recently posted a thread on reddit detailing one such example.
So we can't read too much into previous devices as a guide for what will happen with the Mix.
These sorts of threads appear for almost every device - it doesn't matter which device or which manufacturer, they inevitably pop up. People convince themselves they know what's going to happen and, most of the time, they're wrong.
Not to mention, Xiaomi have publicly stated the Mix will be one of their devices to be updated to Nougat.
A pretty unnecessary thing to say if they're secretly planning to ignore it.

No, you have to unlock your bootloader only and flash TWRP using fastboot. But after installing Epic you're rooted anyway. Epic is pre rooted. For unlock procedure google unlock Xiaomi for example. Best is you start here:

Mine updated to 8.2.2.0 OTA just fine soon after I got things setup [it wanted or offered the update soon after being turned on - but I needed to sort stuff out first]. Abandoned ... hardly ... having run 7 on the Honor 8 and the Mate 9 ... its not THAT huge a thing to wait for it to come along through the usual process. Give it time and be patient, phones only a few months old anyways.

OEM Unlock

Hello everyone.
Seem like alot of people are getting the wanted OEM unlock now, WHO do we need to get a working PIE ROM going? Are we getting close?
I think a bounty needs to be started in order to get a Good recognised ROM created interested. They arent gonna pay for a device that isn't officially released in USA. I'm sure there is 90 people on XDA wanting a custom ROM willing to pay £10 each to a bounty to get a device for a developer.
Indeed now all the bootloader situation is solved it would be great to get some working non EMUI ROM working...
I would certainly contribute to a bounty but maybe better first we are where we are , if there is anyone working on this, or could be potentially interested ... Maybe we could start by renaming this thread to something more informative to see if we can get some interest on this topic?

Working on it...
I`m interested
Eur 10 is very justified if we can get a fully functioning non EMUI rom
With treble support and released kernel sources it seems to be very realistic.
The only thing I'm worried about is the camera, but in the P20 Pro forum they already have a port of the original one working on Lineage.
It looks like OEM Unlock could be enabled again in FW 9.0.0.171 according to another xda post I found via Google
When I had the OP5t I was very happy to use the LiquidROM Dabug123, maybe we should look in the same direction for compliling a ROM for the M20P
You still need to pay for a bootloader unlock code currently once you get to .171

I am not 100% sure about the Mate 20 Pro, but I had unlocked my previous Mate 10 Pro (with official unlock code from Huawei, and adb) and months later I easily re-locked it back, using the same code.
Forgive my ignorance but can i Flash a custom rom without unlocking the bootloader? If not is my only option to pay FunkHuwaei for a code?
no you can't and yes it is

Help to root LYA-L09 Huawei mate 20 pro

Hello a while ago I switched from apple to Huawei and want to root it.
It has the Android 10 version
Compilation 10.0.0.180 (C605E7R1P5)
Bootloader is currently locked.
What can be done, is there a solution? Can you download the version of Android 10?.
Thanks.

I've also got a radical idea, why not answer the OP with the details to their question.

Also, just out of curiosity, why didn't you answer the 1st question i.e. the main reason for the thread, in doing so, you would have killed 2 birds with one answer, whereas now you have answered nothing!?

Well, you must be "new to huawei" yourself, as you've sarcastically said to the OP.
Apologies, I assumed it was shared knowledge since there's pinned threads on various mate 20 boards here on XDA...
Both Funky Huawei and MinistryOfSolutions, right now, can't offer your existing mate 20 pro boot unlock codes, which you referenced above. FunkyHuawei do, however, sell a range of phones including the L29 international dual sim model Pre rooted. So in that sense it's possible to "get" and what I'm trying to ascertain is if you can still "perform" root yourself once said phone is purchased through the. What interests me is getting the actual UNLOCO CODE from the device purchased on FH. They obviously have it. Are they nice and will they share it for flashing newer patches or EMUI 10 (as re rooting is typically required L again, or was on previous devices) or will they hide it like a bunch of pricks?

Btw, no need to reply to me, just answer the OP's question:
"Help to root *LYA-L09* Huawei mate 20 pro"??

They might have had it from day 1 when they got the device and accessed to engineering database before mass lockdown of everything. So its not like they have magic trick, its just they were quick to get it, since all thats needed is IMEI of phone that is written on box of device (you don't need to even open it). Once they get out of those phones, all they will probably sell just "exploit rooted" ones, which have root lasting until next system update.

EMUI 10 doesn't have bootloader unlock command anymore (its been removed basically), so its meaningless there. And firmware upgrade to EMUI 10 automatically locks bootloader back, there's no known way around it (at least currently).
Obviously there's also their exploit for root, but its unknown if its working for EMUI 10, and there's no way they will share the method as its directly impacting their "business". Especially since its "remote desktop" root with prices 190$ each. And its lost every update

Hello,
Any news on this matter ? Can you provide links to existing threads. I just finish reading the comments and no one actually answered the question clearly.
Yes it can be rooted on emui9.1 only.
And it is not possible free.
It involves money

[Question] Bootloader unlockable? Custom ROMs? Root?

Hey, I'm currently wondering about leaving my Samsung Galaxy S9 running on LineageOS 18.1 behind and invest into more up-to-date hardware.
The Oppo Find X5 Pro catches my interest.
However, I'd want to switch to custom ROMs at some point, latest by the end of its update support and possibly root the device.
Considering this, would the Find X5 Pro still fit my needs?
Currently Bootloader Unlock is not possible. Maybe after three months...
Try to get to fastboot is hard . So far i figured out how to get to fastboot.
Run cmd from either Adb/fastboot folder or Adb from platform tools .
run the command:
adb devices
next run :
adb reboot bootloader
while it reboots hold the down volume and power.
it put into fastboot. After that Im lost. Thats as far as I got.
I cant read Chinese
If a phone is not rootable or custom rom possible etc - NO BUY!
Sry Oppo. Hope you Developers find a good way soon!

I came to the same conclusion. The release offers coming with all that extra stuff such as watch, wireless charger and protector seemed to be a good deal.
Especially, when my current phones battery struggles a lot, front camera issues came up and sometimes people I'm calling feel uncomfortable with extra noise.
Though, usually I'm someone who uses their phone for the extra mile. Knowing that Oppo is as restrictive toward a custom roms, protected me from making a not thought through gut decision.
Thanks for the help ...I just didnt have time to do google translate. I will unlock the bootloader tonight
After i get into the " you have entered fastboot " no matter what button combination i do... it will either just reboot or reboot to recovery
To unlock bootloader of OPPO phone, we need to use "Deep Testing" apk to request approval from OPPO, but there's no such apk for Find X5 Pro yet.
I'm OPPO Product Ambassador and asked OPPO to release it, but they replied their developer is not interested in it.

I'm not sure if its device specific but this one seems to be working on Realme GT2 Pro which has at least the same OS and SOC. Probably worth a look.
Unlocked Bootloader?
This device finally seems like a worthy buy if one wants to go into the Samsung ridden 4nm fabrication 8 gen 1 CPU. Best temperatures and lowest throttling of all phones with that chip. One can only hope if Realme releases it with an unlocked...

Not possible, I tried but it didn't proceed for applying.
It didin't work on China version of Find X3 too, so maybe it's only for realme.

There are several versions of the deep testing APK in the internet, the official one for the realme gt 2 pro can be installed but you can not submit your application:

Maybe it's related to the version of my phone (Europe) and changing this would help but I couldn't test it out yet:
Changing a region of a device .(For example, change a EUROPA device to INDIA device)(Updated Instructions, now working again)
Disclaimer : I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards. Please think twice if you want to follow this guide . Realme x2 pro INDIA variant have more apps, settings and features then the EU variant including call recording and theme...

I can get the phone to fastbootd
Very stupid question: as this phone shares lots of it's guts and software with the OnePlus 10 Pro, have you guys tried to use the same process as with its sibling?
