General My galaxy s21 ultra exynos heats up while camera is on. Anyone else is facing the same issue? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

There is a funny thing about heating issue. On my exynos 21ultra, I have heating(warm) issues from these apps.
Camera.
A simple word game.
Chrome(which I eventually disabled).
Then I have these apps that doesn't generate as much heat:
Asphalt9
Quora
Ludo
YouTube and other video services.
Samsung didnt get their thermal management right in this release of their software.

Yea thats for sure, I get heat from mt S21+ Exynos when opening apps that you dont expect heat from and viceeversa...

welcome to 2021s #exynosgate

Seems okay after a couple of days. First day had some heating issues when using the camera. Alternative, you can set to 60hz to test it.

So Is it a hardware issue like the SOC's or just Samsung getting their optimization levels to just average?

I think its optimisation issues...

no issues at all for mine

I haven't used the Camera all that much, a photo here and there but Chrome doesn't heat mine up at all

Yes it heats up for nothing

Just having the view finder open on AUA4 was enough to cause my G998B to almost melt. Battery life was rubbish too.
AUAC fixed this for me and substantially improved the battery life.

AUAC here, still problems

Go into settings and type in notifications into the search bar
Go into included apps, turn off everything you don't use
Go into settings and type in deep sleeping apps into the search bar
Click onto deep sleeping apps, and put everything you don't use to sleep.
Clear cache and storage from camera app.
Close all apps from background, and reboot your phone.

No

Try completely disabling all power management.
Clear system cache.
If that doesn't get it, one or more apks is at fault. You'll need to track them down.
All cloud/backup apps and Google system apks are suspect.
Try disabling auto brightness.
Try a network reset.
ARcore was a super power hog on my 10+/Pie variant; I disabled it.
Disable any carrier or Samsung apks you don't use. Disable all carrier, Google and Samsung feedback.

Yes, it should be, and also for battery.

AUB3 slightly better

I have been experiencing this, it's heating much when camera is on especially during Zoom meetings or other video conference. I have the latest update as of Feb 1.
I just noticed the heat when I lift my phone while on a zoom meeting.

Issues encountered so far

Hi,
I am seriously considering returning this. Its so nearly great but my unit is suffering from the following:
1. Stuck on Android 8 and Feb update. See seperate thread.
2. Touch screen touch sensitivity has some real issues. Scrolling around will occasionally "jump" or reverse direction briefly. I see this a lot on cheaper Android devices.
3. The default notification sound is a ringtone that goes on for 20 seconds approx. I have to change this for every type of notification for every app.. Its maddening.
4. Camera is... meh. Good for the price, but a long way off the top tier.
5. Auto brightness isnt good. Changes too fast, too often. Its all over the place.
UPDATE! 6. Developer Options seem totally broken. Settings dont persist or they do and the UI doesn't remember selections. What a mess.
NOTE - there are lots of positives, but these are well covered elsewhere.
All in all... this feels like any other cheap-ish Android phone. Needs updates, and dont kid yourself that this is the bargain of the century. Its good value, but its clear where compromises have been made.
Lot of bluetooth issues with 8.1. Sound is lagging when paired to my Sony WH-1000XM2. Other devices might loose connection after a while and needing to be re-paired.

2. Is the touchscreen a software issue?
3. Surely there has to be a better way of dealing with this notification ringtone? - Anyone got any ideas?

For 3, I may have solved this myself - there is a default notification sound option which can be changed from the 20 (approx) seconds ringtone. I changed this and still got 1 of the long notifications, but the rest were normal.
As for 2), hopefully this is a software issue. The touch panel has a firmware version which is why I am so keen to get the 8.1 update (as it *may* have a newer version?) as mine is stuck on older software.
I have problems over several apps:
- Instagram no sound in stories
- Snapchat video quality is very very poor and pixilated
- Camera Zoom in Instagram, Snapchat and Whatsapp sometimes works and sometimes not.
- Stock Camera app, sometimes there are glitches when the camera is switching from wide to tele in lowlight.
- Playstore and Recent apps window sometimes lags
Anyone else experiencing those bugs?

I just checked your first 3 issues, I don't have any of them. I didn't notice any glitches with the camera either yet, but I haven't tested it that much. Only thing is the lag when switching between recent apps, Playstore works fine though. Maybe try and clear the cache of the apps you have problems with? Or maybe you didn't update them?

i just found out that my instagram audio is not working when i have my phone in vibration mode instead of ringing mode, although media volume is on max.
As soon as i change into ringing mode the sound in my instastories is working! Should be a software bug, but not sure if from instagram or nokia.
EDIT: are you able to do a smooth zooming in snapchat or only "1 step"? Because after reinstalling the app i was able to fully zoom in, exactly how i am used to it. Afterwards i started the stock camera app tapped the x2 button to zoom in. Then when i went back to snapchat i was only able to zoom "1 step" like i would press the x2 button in the camera app, instead of a continuous zoom.
My volume key temporary disabled after use instagram or some local apps. Uninstall TalkBack help me this. You guys who had trouble with sound should try.
I can agree to some of these issues.
The most annoying by far is the auto brightness. Sometimes when I unlock the phone it turns the brightness all the way down, even when I'm outside. Makes the screen all but unreadable. More interesting is that it makes the adjustment even though the auto-adjustment is turned off.
The bluetooth sound is choppy sometimes.
No complaints on the screen or the camera from me.

yeah, the auto brightness does not work as good as it should. Just had a 2 hours call with a bluetooth headset and everything was just fine! Maybe you could try a different protocol in the developer settings for bluetooth codec?
Hey everyone !

Hey, I am curious about how the WH-1000XM2 sounds in nokia 7 plus. Is it better or worse than your other devices except for the lag?
I'm in the UK, just the received the phone and am also stuck with the 8.0 + Feb security patch. It's saying I'm up to date.
Also, is anyone else's system storage taking up 14GB? Should it be that big? It's already using 22% before I've even installed an app. Tried a factory reset and same thing.

Mi 9 Camera & Battery issues

Hi everyone, i have a Mi 9 and y'all know how bad its battery is.
So i turned off the prime core and 2 big cores, to be left with only little cores working and a 1 big one.
I just use social media so the performance is not affected but when it comes to the camera on 4K recording it's like a 2 FPS video lol
My question is:
How to force all the cores to be active on launching camera?
Guess no one here lol?
Maybe time to replace the battery. I don't have any problem with mine. I did hear a while ago that there was a battery replacement thing happening. Here

No, no, no. He's done customization where only 1 big core and little cores are active. He deliberately puts other cores to sleep. But now he's facing problem wherer with such a configuration, the camera cannot work with maximum capability as it requires the inactive cores as well. So he wants all cores to be active, but only for the camera app. Not something people do in general, nor I have any idea how to except if there's some kind of system wide hook that can be attached when an app is being launched and closed, a script to (de)activate the cores may be run there after seeing what package is being run.

Question Cameraservice_worker partial wakelock

Hi everyone, I recently bought a S21 Ultra Exynos version. I previously installed BetterBatteryStats app to monitor for any battery drain.
There's an issue that from what I have searched, a few users are having. When my phone is on standby on a flat surface the battery drain is minimal or roughly 1-2% overnight
However, when my phone is in my pocket and when I'm walking, something is activating (possilby the proximity sensor?) the wakelock "cameraservice_worker" that causes the phone to drain battery even without touching it. I also did some testing and this process also runs in the background whenever I'm shaking my phone around instead of letting it lie still on a table top.
I have tried factory resetting and disabling multiple settings, but none seem to be able to work.
Below is a screenshot of BBS to show what I mean under partial wakelocks
This is causing my phone's battery to drain much faster than normal when in my pocket compared to when lying still on a table. Anyone here has similar issues?
These links also show a similar problem, but no one seems to be able to find a solution.
Standby battery drain when active
I've noticed since owning my phone that when I'm walking around in the day, my phone dies quicker than when I have a day where I'm more static. I've tried deleting apps and did a full reset but the problem still existed. I did some research and tried turning off loads of different settings and...

So I have seen this as well, I think it's driven by how doze works - basically there is light and deep doze, and apps will be restricted from accessing data etc. until scheduled maintenance windows.
If you are moving, then the phone will only ever be in light doze (less restrictions, more maintenance windows, more drain). Without knowing what it does, I would hazard a guess that it's something that is blocked in 'deep doze.'
Worth giving Naptime a shot - it forces your phone to doze almost immediately, and you can turn off motion detection to stop your phone waking up.
That said I haven't tested it whilst out and about (turning off motion detection basically does light doze with all the rules of deep doze), so not sure if it will help with that particular wakelock.
Okay I'll try naptime out. Thanks!
Does your phone also have the same problem?
Yea same 'problem' - as in I think it's by design, your phone assumes it's in use so pings for more location updates etc. when moving, and I have cameraservice_worker as my biggest wakelock (haven't checked it overnight when phone is stationary, so will give that a go). I lose about 0.5% an hour without AOD overnight.
What I j haven't really looked at is 4g moving around drain vs WiFi moving around. Obviously stuck in the house atm battery is great, but phone is stationary a lot more than usual. Likely that moving around and on mobile data will make a big difference.
You'll need ADB to use naptime but it's easy enough to do (assuming you used it for BBS)
Did a quick experiment, looks like naptime doesn't stop the wakelock, even with motion detection turned off. Moving the phone I got the wakelock, leaving it still I didn't. (Turning motion detection off in naptime requires it to stay in light doze, but with the parameters of deep doze).
I'll keep it on just to see if it works but otherwise not to sure what you can do about it.
Still worth having as it's near instant doze as soon as you turn off your screen
Yeah same here.. having naptime with motion detection disabled still triggers the wakelock. It's annoying how my standby can be so great when it's on the table, but the moments it's in my pocket the standby drain is noticeably faster.
Hope it gets fixed in those newer updates

I haven't tried turning off tap to wake yet.. will try it and see
Other options I have disabled like turning off lift to wake, pocket detection, fingerprint scanner off when display off. But still the wakelock is there
Had a quick flick through reddit, looks like it might be something to do with proximity sensor and how it uses the camera, which I guess makes some sense, although might have expected pocket detection to stop it.
I wonder if it is misbehaving or if it's a 'normal' service.
On a side note, any noticeable battery improvements from having the scanner off when screen is off? don't really use it
I noticed this last week too and have been trying to find more reports about it. It's also happening to the Note 20 Ultra, seems to be related to the variable refresh rate.
FWIW - i disabled sensors (Dev options > dev quick tiles > sensors off) the wakelocks stop. Just hoping someonee can figure out if there's a service we can disable without causing any issues.

haha I'd be curious how you go with all the other stuff like proximity, ambient light sensors etc are off. Camera was my only test with it, it failed, so turned sensors straight back on.
So I was having a think, if it is a bug rather than normal operation, wondered if it could be the OIS moving around and triggering something when the device is moving? Will do adb permissions for GSAM on my S10 and see if the same thing happens
I installed GSAM on my partner's S20+ and no sign of this wakelock anywhere. Definitely seems limited to the later models Note20 ultra and S21 ultra. Not even sure if the S21 or S21+ are experiencing it.

Have you raised it with the support team on samsung members? going to submit a bug report tonight after using the phone all day so they can see some usage.
It's the sort of thing that average users wouldn't be able to report because they just wouldn't be aware

No I haven't.. I'm wasn't really sure where to report this because it doesn't seem like a widespread issue.
But hmm you're right maybe it's because the average user isn't even aware that their phones are draining battery more in their pockets, and probably even less aware that this wakelock even exists

Yea exactly, I think you'd need to be using ADB commands (BBS, GSAM etc.) to even see that level of detail, and I reckon 95% of users don't know what they are

Question Wqhd+ vs fhd+ ( huge performance issue ) (exynos)

As soon as i try to shift to wqhd+ with 120 hz , the performance of the phone decreases alot , i see stutters here and there . The phone remains extra warm while using , even the typing isnt as smooth.
But as soon as i switch to fhd+ , omg the phone is really fast again .. no stutters ,
Phone remains very light warm , typing super snooth .
Is there anyone facing the same issue ?
( reminds of my old s9plus with exynos where it was not able to handle wqhd resolution.)
My point is , why do they even offer wqhd when the chipset is weak to handle ?
Is there anyone facing the same thing ?
Fine here , been using wqhd 120hz since first time

Exynos ?
What are your ambient temperatures outside ?
I found WQHD to be smoother. Phone seemed less hesitant (for lack of a better word) in day to day interaction. For example, when set to FHD+, there would be a small delay after unlocking, before the screen starting accepting a touch input. Nothing lagged, but there was this feeling that the CPU/GPU was scaling up an FHD interface onto a WQHD screen (Number of pixels remain the same on the screen, whatever resolution you pick). Once i changed to native WQHD resolution, everything seemed to be instantaneous. It may be consuming more battery, I'm not sure - but i don't see a worse battery life than what it was on FHD+.
During a CODM session I noticed that FHD+ gameplay was smoother than WQHD - so that's probably going to be my use case for FHD+ - Gaming. For everything else, I'll stick to WQHD for sometime and post my experience if I notice any downsides.
What i have noticed is , if you change the resolution from 1440 to 1080 .
The phones data in certain apps still shows that phone is rendering 515 ppi
A restart is must after changing resolution ..
Try to reduce to 1080p , do a reboot , and then use the phone and see if there is a difference ..
Will try today and see if the reboot idea makes a difference over the next 1-2 days

So far, FHD+ seems to be easier on the battery. The touch delay has disappeared after a reboot, so thanks for that suggestion!
Charged nearly a day ago, and did regular usage including half an hour of CODM, WhatsApp, XDA, reddit etc mostly on wifi. Auto dark mode (sunset to sunrise)
With that kind of use case, I'm at 19+ hours since full charge, 4+ hours of screen on time and still have around half the battery left.
I can live with that.

So thats the point .
Qhd is good , but its not easy on cpu/gpu as well as battery .
I am more concerned about the overall general performance , ( not gaming)
Hows the overall performance as of now ?
Like using whatsapp , insta ,facebook , typing , browsing , etc?
Better/smoother than qhd? Or similer ?

Honestly speaking, general performance seems no different between FHD and WQHD. I can't even tell which resolution I'm running unless I go to the resolution setting page.

Yes .. thats true .. its just after changing the setting . You realise that its different .
After like 5 mins of using i barely notice the change in resolution .
I dont know how you are able to achieve that type of battery ..
I might have tinkered with a lot of setting , installed galaxy labs and good lock too .
According to you should i get my phone restored ( software) once from the service centre ?
Or will the factory reset be enough ?

I have good lock too, haven't used labs. I like to tinker with my phone as well. But I don't usually make changes outside what the OS allows (I've changed only user facing options, not dug into system disabling apps, or other such activity)
Service center will not do anything more than what you will do at home. If you think you may have messed up too many settings and can't recover from it, just do a factory restore and set up again. But for the first week or so, expect poor battery life as the OS settles down. Coming from a OnePlus, I actually quite like Samsung software. It has a polish that OnePlus lacks, being built purely for Speed. It's quite robust, just make small incremental changes to set up to your liking, battery life will settle down to a comfortable level.
My battery life was terrible when I got the phone a week ago, but has continued to get better with time.

Do you think it could be an issue of bad os ?
Will the restore from service centre make any difference ?

Honestly, I dont know. Only way to find out is to try. But once again, I don't think Service Centre people will do any special software flash that you cannot do with a factory reset at home. If I was you, i'd not give my phone to a stranger unless I couldn't manage or fix something myself first.
BTW, what is your major gripe with your phone? Battery life? SOT? Standby? Performance? What is bugging you so much?

Sot , battery . I could barely manage 5-6 hours sot without gaming .with Aod on fhd 120hz
Using the camera makes the phone heat up alot and after using camera it throttles and even scrolling feels a bit laggy .
Changing to wqhd and rebooting ,
The ui feels less smooth , the response time reduces , apps like snapchat and instagram start stuttering .

That doesn't sound alright. Have you done a lot (i mean a LOT) of tinkering with the OS? If so, something might have gone off the rails and causing problems. Impossible for me to say. But the phone is buttery smooth... I don't think you should accept any lagginess. Most of the heating issues are also gone after the April update, so I'm not sure what has your device spooked. Which country are you from? Can you get an easy replacement or are you stuck with your device like in India? I'm not saying your device is faulty, but if its bugging you and you can get a free replacement without losing money, get it swapped with a new one.
If that's not possible, the easiest way out will be a factory reset at home.
I'd say go for it, wipe and set it up afresh.

Unfortunately i am from india bro .
Bought offline ,
No replacement/return
I know if i submit in the service centre they are gonna destroy my phone ( may be sratches / mishandling or they could open the phone and destroy the waterproofing)
What i am planning is go to service centre and get the phone flashed again . ( i am least sure that it could be a bad os install on my phone )
A factory reset is what i can try at the moment .

Best of luck! Do keep me posted. I really hope you get this sorted out.
This is a very expensive heartache otherwise! I can imagine what you must be going through. Spend the Sunday setting up a freshly reset phone. If you start now, you should be done by night. Damn thing has soooooo many settings to navigate.

While setting up , did u install the samsung apps?
Are u signed in to samsung account?
Yes for both.
But I made sure to uncheck the Samsung Customisation Service during setup. I only ticked the boxes that were compulsory for allowing the setup to proceed.
