[GUIDE] How to unbrick RN8 (won't boot only backlight turns on for a second) using EDL - Redmi Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all, after lots of trial & error, I would like to share how I managed to unbrick my Redmi Note 8
original thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/need-redmi-note-8-firehose-without-authentication.4031513/
many thanks to dxD7 who provided valuable info on how this worked for him
WARNING: this process requires you to enter EDL mode which means you have to separate backplate and short 2 pins on motherboard so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! since its not quick&easy solution yet.. thanks Xiaomi!
Symptoms:
while pressing power button , the display backlight will turn on for approx a second and phone will vibrate and then turn off
while pressing power+volume- button, the phone will do the same as above but will show fastboot image for a second too
while phone is connected via cable its backlight will turn on for a second and thend turn off repeatedly..
tested on ginko, batch 2020.11 - but should work on other (older phones as well) not tested on 8T-willow but might work - some mention about it is in original thread
note that there is different kind of brick where after turning on the phone only the LED light blinks - it wasn't tested on that situtation but you can try it and pls let me know.
What you will need
clean windows without any previous ROM-flashing or android development drivers is recommended as it looks like windows is unable to fully uninstall previous drivers - they will reappear once device is connected
download xiaomi flash tool 20200314 from https://xiaomiflashtool.com/download/xiaomi-flash-tool-20200314
download QPST v2.7.480 from https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-22467.html
download fastboot ROM named ginkgo_global_images_V11.0.12.0.PCOMIXM_20201119.0000.00_9.0_global_37804edbcb.tgz from https://bigota.d.miui.com/V11.0.11....XM_20201001.0000.00_9.0_global_389eff34c9.tgz
prog_emmc_firehose_Sm6125_ddr.zip from attachment
STEPS:
unpack ROM (for example to Desktop)
unpack prog_emmc_firehose_Sm6125_ddr.zip and place prog_emmc_firehose_Sm6125_ddr.elf from .zip into your unpacked ROM folder: /ginkgo_global_images_V11.0.11.0.PCOMIXM_20201001.0000.00_9.0_global/images/prog_emmc_firehose_Sm6125_ddr.elf (overwrite the old one)
run QFIL.exe and set it up similiarly like in this video (i know it's for 8T and but same principle is applicable here)
leave QFIL.exe running, you will need it later
now the tricky part. remove backlplate, connect phone using USB cable (prefferably stock cable that came with the phone and into USB2 slot) and short these 2 pins to get into EDL mode

you should hear windows sound of device plugged in. check in the device manager - it should report as unknown device QUSB_BULK_CID:XXXX_SN:XXXXXXXX
now run xiaomi flash tool 20200314 and it will prompt to install drivers so click Install and check if your unknown device now reports as QUALCOMM HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (if install process happended too fast and you cannot see the driver (this happened to me) please remove anything from MiFlash20200314\log folder and try again)
once the driver is installed, QFIL should show QUALCOMM HS-USB QDLoader 9008 instead of No Port Available
click on Download Content to flash firmware
now my 1st flash failed - I got Sahara Error, so I disconnected the cable, pressed all 3 buttons on phone for ~10seconds until screen blinked and phone vibrated
I connected cable again, shorted these 2 pins to get into EDL mode, pressed Download content again and now it worked (took few minutes) and Download Succeed
hold all 3 buttons for ~10seconds and phone should start up
to my knowledge the error you will get the most in QFIL is Sahara Fail. according to the internet, this might be due to many reasons (bad cable, bad usb port, antivirus running, wrong firmware or firehose or wrong driver but in my case it was the wrong driver - internet is full of various qualcomm driver but I had succes only with the one included in xiaomi flash tool 20200314 ) for more troubleshooting please use for example https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usbdeview.zip check if your driver's version is same as on the attached image (2.1.0.5)
No reboot nor enabling unsigned drivers, running QFIL as administrator, disabling antivirus was needed in my case.
Maybe some of these steps are unnecesarry, maybe this guide can be written more understandably - sorry for that - i wrote is asap so I won't forget anything I did during process. Please feel free to modify it or I will try to improve it in the future if I brick my phone again and have more knowledge about it..
and I also need to figure out how to stick backplate to phone again so that it can be removed if needed while still preserving some kind of waterproof function..
EDIT: bricked my phone 3 more times aftrer trying to install RR but was able to recover from all of them again
UPDATE:
user Elinx stated that this happens only with 11-2020 batch and flashing FW 12.01 with recovery. So let's hope it won't happen on other batches..
It is also mentioned here (hope it helps):
see in this topic

I live in canada and I found a 2mm double sided tape on amazon for like 10$ made for electronics. I think that's what I'll buy, and I can come back with an update if it's good or not. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00BXYWXY8/

thanks either that or I'm thinking about B7000 glue which looks like many people are using for sticking battery cover

Thank you, I revived the Redmi Note 8 in the way you share.

u re welcome. good to see it works!

Hi, i will follow this process, but i have a different kind of brick, it`s completely dead, not vibrate, no led, nothing. The only sign of life is the sound in my pc when i connect/disconnect usb cable and i can see it in MiFlash as "COM3" and "QUALCOMM HS-USB QDLoader 9008" in QFIL.
It will work?
PD: i brick the phone after update to MIUI 12, ye i dont know how

I have the famous "Sharara" error, what did you do to solve it?

So i finally unbrick my phone! It´s alive ahaha. Thanks a lot, you are my new god.
The reason why i get Sahara error was becouse i have a old version of QPST/QFIL

Fantastic work. I waited about 50 days for the same so the official service could do this.
I'll bookmark your work if I need it again in the future
Cheers man. Thanks.

Nice work !
i saw a tutorial on how to enter EDL mode without opening the phone but i can't find it anymore
its here on xda, if you find it update your tutorial

I haven't tested this myself, but with unlocked bootloader you maybe can use the fastboot command:
fastboot oem edl
I haven't seen this with RN8 on XDA, but with RN7 Pro and Poco X3

thanks a lot, got my phone back.
how to remove back cover

Hey guys, could someone post an working qualcom driver ?

I´ve done everything but this damm SaharaServer Fail is killing me.
I got the Redmi note 8 .
Any hint ?

From what I understand, this looks a specific problem with Board ID 3.29.
The reason could be that only the same Miui version or higher and same region can be flashed than the one with which the phone came.
Also flasshing without battery connection could help.

I too had this flashing backlight problem and found the reason why this happens.
It is only the november 2020 batch (11-2020) which has Miui 11.0.11
This batch can't be flashed with recovery to Miui 12.01 or 12.01 FW.
If you do this, your phone get this brick, while there isn't a single error with twrp flashing.
No fastboot, No recovery, No system anymore
You need EDL testpoint and patched firehose file to revive your phone.
With twrp, Flash Miui12.02 or higher , you will never notice this problem.

[SOLVED IDK HOW] Bricked (no response, no fastboot, no recovery mode, maybe edl)

Hi all, here I only want explain what happened to my phone.
2 days ago i've flashed the semi-official cm 18/11 and works fine.
Yesterday night I wanted to reboot my phone and i shutted down. Battery was about 70%.
Then I've tried to turn it on but it was died, no response from my phone. I've tried to enter in fastboot or in recovery mode but nothing. Maybe only EDL mode i think (always black screen, I don't know if it was in edl).
My pc after installing Qualcomm USB serial driver (inside the MiFlash tool), it readed my phone like Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (before like qusb_bulk).
This morning I've tried to flash global miui with MiFlash but I get an error message (surely it's my fault).
An half hour later phone is disconnected from the pc and the led started to blink.
I've plugged it in the charger and an hour later phone booted and it was in battery screen with 3%.
I don't know if yesterday battery percentuage was bugged or battery discharged in the night. (it remained connected nearly three hours at the computer).
If you want I'll export a logcat but i don't know if it's possible
From my experience, I've seen that "kind of death" on devices like Mi4 and Mi4c. Many people have gone through it.
It is rare, but can happen. The method that has worked for me was:
Connect the device via usb port to a PC.
Wait for the led light to show up. Maybe minutes, maybe hours.
Once the led light is on, inmediately connect it to a wall charger.
Else you can try to flash a fastboot rom if miflash recognizes your device via COM port.
Once it's flashed, then connect to the wall charger for an hour or so. Should come to life.
It is kinda sad to see that this issue persists on the mi5, after having seen it happen on mi4 and mi4c.
But also good to know 99% times they have a solution.
An easy working way to make the Mi5 to enter in EDL mode is to build an EDL cable for yourself.
Here is what you have to do:
1)

3)
Then connect the device with this built cable for a few seconds and unplug it.
Plug it again with a NORMAL cable.
Miflash will show COM port, and now you're into EDL mode.

I hope it does not happen to me more, anyway thanks for the explanation, hope it will be useful for some other unlucky guys.
Sent from my MI 5 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Same happened to me a few weeks ago. Completely dead no LED no screen no vibration no fastboot no nothing. Left it plugged in to wall charger for few hours - nothing. Left it plugged in to PC for a few hours nothing except qusb_bulk in device manager. Then I tried MiFlash it recognised phone on COM port and succesfully flashed the ROM but no restart, no lights, no vibration, nothing still phone has not recognised anything. Left it overnight plugged in to PC morning still nothing. Another few hours of messing around/trying and I leave it connected to my turned OFF laptop I come back in a few hours and red LED is on! Booted up straight to MIUI 8 as it had received the MiFlash without 'waking up'
So if your Mi5 dies like this without any fall (suddenly) it still might come back to life lol. Working fine since about 10 days now.

Is the only difference is merging green+black cable? And will it work with some old micro usb cable (to modify it) with usb c connector?

you can find the solution here
The easy way is the deep flash cable, but if you don't have one or cannot make one, just use the test point method, it is not hard.
Whoa! Can you explain wtf this is & why it works? I'm fascinated tho I will try leaving it plugged into PC overnight first as that sounds like a potential much easier fix...

After flashing this new CM14 ROM I was fine for a while but then while hard booting into recorver to flash some different gapps it hard bricked & PC sees it as QUSB_BULK... bizarre. Will try your method.

So I have QUSB_BULK brick situation, & I am hoping I can get it to QDloader9008 like you did, because all unbrick advice I've found assumes computer is seeing it as QDloader9008. So, I got the MiFlash tool, & I found those Qualcomm driver folders, but I am a total n00b & can't figure out how to install them. Here's what I get (attached). When I click either of those items I get a warning about opening a system file, then an app chooser that doesn't look promising. Help?

Hello,
Sorry for this little necroposting, but I think another experience can help general awareness about the issue.
Had the exact same problem few weeks ago (phone won't boot after turn off), let it over night unplugged, when I woke up the battery was flat (blinking red led), I plugged it back to a charger and it booted up.
My phone is working like a charm this then, hope I won't have this problem again.
Cheers,
My phone few days ago jus died while watching youtube. No fastboot, no recovery, zero reaction. I succesfully flashed global stable rom (tried also dev china and gobal) va MiFlash using EDL mode. After flash I disconnected phone from PC and it's dead. I tried unplugging battery and it's the same. When I connect to wall charger yellow/green LED appears and nothing more. Pressing Power button does nothing. What can I do?
@Mayex, did you find a solution? I'm having the same issue, I can boot in EDL mode, and I the flash goes without issues, but I can't boot the phone, the screen is always black.

Unfortunately, motherboard is dead. We can do nothing. Probably GPU is burned because of poorly designed cooling in Mi5.

I know it's been a long while since you had this problem, but as I have to face it myself without any clue how to solve it I thought it was a good idea to recover this thread.
First of all, let me say it happened to me with a Xiaomi mi5s. I had already installed adb & fastboot, as well as Xiaomi drivers from the Xiaomi Unlock Tool.
The problem arose when I made a partial firmware upgrade through fastboot in order to install LOS 14.1 via TWRP. I could not geet into fastboot mode, the screen went completely black and no charging LED. Curiously my laptop (Win10) made a tiny nose everytime I pluged or unplugged it (the same one it does everytime you plug a new device) and saw that it recognised it as a 'Qualcomm HS-USB qloader 9008'. More curiously, Xiaomi Flash Tool (BTW, it was the beta version although I guess the latest version would have worked as well) recognised the device although everytime I tried to flash an official firmware I got a message error: 'cannot receive hello packet'.
Well, after some research I was scared because I didn't want to open the phone to unplug the battery or anything. But I read somewhere that someone had the same problem as me and that he tried Xiaomi Flash Tool until it worked.
That was it, that was the clue. Xiaomi Flash Tool ready, having initially recognised my mi5s, the phone connected to the laptop, I made the combination to get into fastboot (holding volume - & power button) until my laptop made a tiny nose (the same one I explained at the beginning). As soon as I heard it I left the phone and clicked on the flash button on Xiaomi Flash Tool. Yes, it worked out. I installed latest development chinese MIUI rom. From there, I got into fastboot, flashed a new recovery... Well that's another history, the fact is that the mi5s is working again and I must say I feel really relived.
If anyone encounters the same problem I had I hope this post is of any help to him/her.

[HELP] Phone is stuck at Linux Penguin Logo ( Bootloader, Recovery Not Responding)

Good Morning Guys,
I have Redmi 4X 64GB version. The phone has unlocked bootloader and was running on Havoc OS V2.5 and the phone was rooted.
About a week ago the phone is suddenly got into weird state. And i am unable to figure out what to do.
The phone is gotten into Linux Penguin Logo. I am attaching an image with that problem. And also phone in not responding to any physical power+volume button integration. Any combination just takes me to this Penguin Screen. Here are some thing i have already tried to do but not working at all. Although when i connect this device to computer with this Penguin Logo screen it does get detected as fastboot device but so far that isn't helping.
Some tricks that i have already tried but not working:-
1. I have booted my phone into edl mode and installed fastboot rom via miflash tool, and it is successfully installed but after pressing power+volume button it is the same screen as Penguin Logo. [so Not Working]
2. I have opened the phone disconnect the battery and tried some combinations but still no luck.
3. Used every combination with power button as well as connected to pc and used fastboot commands but not working out.
4. TWRP installation get failed. ( will attach the preview).
So, Please anyone has any clue or anyone has ever face this same problem please reach out to me. Any Honect answer will work.
Sorry i am new at writing thread. So if any mistake i am sorry.

If you still have custom recovery installed then try flashing latest firmware.
i've found this similar having issue video on youtube of Redmi 3S(Appears to be) and how it got solved, please check it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMZ08qQrqnc
i am not sure if those files are limited to Redmi 3S or can be use on other xiaomi devices but it gives some sort of idea what you should try. and video language i don't understand and maybe you understand maybe not but should be understandable by watching video.
Thanks for replying. But that is the problem i am unable to reach anywhere not bootloader nor recovery. The phone is just showing the linux penguin logo whether you use power and volume combination or you do the same via connecting to pc.
I think he has that download link in description. But that link requires password for opening .rar file. And i do not trust that guy. That file may have some bloatware or virus or something. If you find same file that he has please share that file over here so that i can use it.
Thanks.

Did you solve the problem? I'm stuck in it and after trying all the things (including deciphering that rar file very doubtful, which I did not achieve) I'm empty of ideas
try to put the phone in edl mode...open the phone case and disconnect the battery wire..if u have tweezer then try touching it to testpoints and then plug the usb cable at the same time...a driver will install on ur computer named (qdloader9008)....open miflash tool then try flashing it via the tool...
Time to use Device as Paper Weight

Sorry Bro, Nothing is working at all. I mean i am IT Engineer and i have tried all things but still no luck. So, my thinking is the boot loader is too much damaged so there is nothing that can be written on it, no TWRP or no any data partition, it's all out of option. I have started using the phone as Paper Weight.
I am still hoping that someone can solve this problem and get back to me. Fingers Crossed
Thank You.
Not Working, Already tried:

Sorry Bros, Already tried all things that you have mentioned in the post and its not working at all. If somehow we can change the memory storage chip on the phone that contains the bootloader then the phone can come back to its normal form.
Try to turn fastboot if you turn this on then you are on good situation . Boot TWRP and try installing rom again ( with wiping data, cache, vendor, system, dalvik, and might internal storage)
Your problem solved or still u r stuck?
To answer your question, yeah i got it done. Actually where i live, there is repair shop guy that i know he got it done for just 500rs. I don't know how he do that.
Here is my own tested solution for you !
In my case, when i try to install boot logo on Redmi 5 then this happened.
And yet last . i find the great solution by Miassistant
.1. Download Miassistant on PC
2. Download ADB Driver for your Pc
3. Download (Recovery Rom) not Fastboot Rom
5. press volume up + Power for (Miassistant mode)
6. Flash from Miassistant
Thanks for the solution. My device is already fixed, but i this solution can work. If something like this happens in future we can try this out. But i really wanna know what causes this thing to be happened?

Sorry if this is not the place for post this, but I read a lot of cases that people have their phones stuck in Linux Icon, after a fail installing a ROM, this same case happened to me in a Xiaomi Mi 5 S Plus, one of the devices of Xiaomi, with less support because there were not to much units manufactered.
In mi case, after try to put the device in the fastboot mode, that was impossible I had to put the MI5 s Plus in EDL mode, using the 2 test points pins in the motherboard, and using Miflash for instal a fastboot rom.
I ll explain the steps;
A- Install MiFlash, in your computer, with all the drivers
B-Download a stable Fastboot ROM for your device, you can find it easily in the forums. ( In my case was the "natrium_global_images_V10.2.4.0.OBGMIXM_20190424.0000.00_8.0_global_07f157530a" with MIUI 10 for the Xiaomi MI5 S Plus (natrium) )
C- Put your device in EDL mode
Normally if you are stuck in the linux mode, this is your only solution for put the device in EDL mode, use the 2 test points in the motherboard of the phone.
Check in internet, where are located the test pins in your device, is different for every model. ( I attached a image of the 2 test points in Mi 5 S Plus)

}
For put the device in EDL mode:
1- Disassemble the back cover of your phone
2- Disconect the battery
3- Connect the usb cable to the phone, but not connect yet to the computer
4-Use something metallic, like a clip, wire, or tweezers, and touch the 2 Test points at the same time in the motherboard and while you re touching this 2 points connect the USB to the computer
5-You ll hear the sound in the computer that recognizes a new device conected, after that you can remove the clip or wire from touching the 2 points in the board of the phone
6-Open Miflash and have to appear a device connected like COM...., If don´t appear , you can make the process again (there is no problem if you make the steps with the MIflash open)
7- Select the option Flash all (clean all) in Miflash for install the fastboot rom
8- If some error appears during the installation, check the fastboot rom, I ll try 2 or 3 differents versions before one that was completely installed without error
9- If the installation is correct, your phone will be restart, and take some minutes for the first boot after the installation.
In my case, with this device and other Xiaomi devices, to put the phone in EDL mode, and install a stable official fastboot rom, was the only solution for this kind of software problems, I hope this post help someone

Fake Android 10" Phone TS-M704A -ZML10

Hi guys I am new to Android as you can see otherwise I wouldn't have touched one of these fake tablets at all , but the price looked good and it was for a Christmas gift to a child who would most likely drop it on the first day so took a chance. BIG mistake it wouldnt accept Family link or any decent Child security apps so it was basically useless , I watched a video on how to upgrade it and to check what system was installed it was supposed to be Android 9 it was in fact KitKat 4.4.2 so I followed the video ( to the letter ) and now it only loops the android logo . I can't find any firmware for it and am not even sure what manufacturer has the cheek to put their or it's brand to it , but I have persevered and not yet thrown it against the wall ( but i'm frikin close to it ) so please can anyone point me in the right direction to unbrick this Marvel of a Chinese Puzzle ( honestly it makes a Rubik Cube look easy ) I would be eternally grateful as would my wife who didnt know I knew so many swear words as I am 68 she should have known I had a few up my sleave lol so looking for a MTK6582 scatter file and firmware for a TS-M704A (10" model ) board marked as ZLM10 Thanks guys .
hi, i am not much of a expert but it seems you have messed up something wrong in the tablet.
i would need some information about tablet to help you.

The board is a ZL10-MB V3.2 Arm cortex 7 cpu and I think its an MTK MT6582 but not sure but that is what most specs say for this tablet . When SP-Flash plugged in it says no partion and times out , only firmware I have ben able to find fot it off Leaktite is corrupted plus the logo is no longer looping it's a brick .. Regards Clive

Hi Bhanu no luck I'm afraid the sp comes back with the message time out , computer is detecting and stable so now I'm completely lost. but thanks for trying to help regards Clive.
are you sure giving up so early ????
if decided to try once again, check if pc detects phone or not
how?
simple,
connect your phone and open control panel go to device manager and see if there is any vcom driver connected or not
Hi Bhanu yes the tablet does show up in the device manager and isn't jumping in and out so no interupt to connection , it just keeps timing out when plugged back in to pc on download from Flashtool. I am thinking maybe the sd is locked or damaged I don't know , been reading up a bit on these and many have had the same problems with this model just basically a load of junk lol but if you have any ideas I will more than gladly try them .regards Clive
yes you are right when i searched for your phone i found that flash drive is missing in it so tablet will not work now.
but you can try resetting it through recovery if not then its just useless.
Yeah but the only way you can do that with these phones/tablet/ dung pile lol is to have ad debugging which without a system in it you're screwed ? so I think I'm going to use it as a Frisbee ha ha . whatever you do do not buy any tablets from a company called well 4 shopping UK . Not only are they not in the UK so delivery times are ridiculous but they lie through their teeth , I suppose my own fault for buying from ebay lol thanks anyway Bhana
your help was much appreciated regards Clive PS if I ever do crack it I will let you know ..

Can't do anything after Combination OS FW Flash

Was following a guide to root my Note 8 Snapdragon and it told me to flash combination os, did so and you can tell what happened after, i can do absolutely nothing, can't go into recovery mode, download mode, nor even turn on the phone, shows no signs of life besides a extremely fast flicker when trying to go into download mode after like 30 seconds of holding, please help. I need answers, if its bricked, broken, or all of the above.
Can you link the guide?
That may be a sign that the bootloader is busted.
There's still Hope. Qualcomm-powered devices (like yours) have an EDL Mode. Emergency DownLoad Mode, which resides in the Qualcomm-Chipset itself and is read-only.
You can use that Mode to flash a new Bootloader, to then be able to flash a ROM again.
Some devices in some situations automatically detect that they can't start the bootloader and go into EDL Mode. Other times, you have to manually start the EDL Mode by by using an EDL Cable, or by taking off the back of your phone and shorting 2 Test-points on the motherboard to start the EDL Mode.
If you connect your phone to your PC, and if the Qualcomm 9008 drivers are installed, your phone will show up in Windows' Device Manager as "Qualcomm HS 9008", that means your phone is in EDL Mode.
In your case I think your phone just constantly tries to reboot into Bootloader, which keeps failing...
I'm not sure what software you would use, to use the EDL Mode on Samsung, because nowadays I use a Xiaomi Phone, but there's the official QPST Tool (Qualcomm Product Support Tool). You might be able to use that Tool to flash a new bootloader using your phones' EDL Mode.
I have experience with that, because I busted the Bootloader on my Xiaomi phone and was able to recover the software through that Mode, but for me with my Xiaomi Phone, the process is different, because Xiaomi locked that Mode for their phones. But that's another story....
If you'd like more information or need help, you can hit me up.

I just found out that Samsung blocked EDL on all their phones that's why you never see anyone making a guide on a "Samsung EDL cable" or an item on a website/shop saying compatible with Samsung phones.

Oh, how did you found out?
Xiaomi locks their phones' EDL Mode to Authorised Service Accounts only, which is outragous in my opinion. I had to pay 25€ to someone and let them remote-control my PC, so they can flash the ROM for me.
But Samsung also locking EDL Mode? That's pathetic, considering they're supposedly working with iFixIt to provide Replacement-parts, but then doing very much Anti-Right-To-Repair sh*t like this.
Bunch a hypocrites, same as Apple xd.
Can you perhaps share the link where you found out Samsung's locked EDL?
I don't know the stance with Samsung and EDL, but I thought it would perhaps work, because I saw a YouTube video where someone flashed the Bootloader onto a Samsung Galaxy phone..

Someone whos good with Samsung on the r/AndroidRoot Discord server said confidently that apparently, Samsung locks EDL mode, because I asked him can I use a EDL/Deep Flash Cable on a Samsung/Note 8 and he said no. From the man that told me this, I quote "Hint: it doesn't have an accessible edl", I say wdym, and he says "You can't get to it, even if there is one.
Could you also link the vid of the person flashing the bootloader onto a Samsung Galaxy phone?

It's just this video I watched, so I assumed it was possible. I just typed in "samsung flash edl mode" into YouTube.
You can also see MBN-files, which is a filetype for Qualcomm Partition-images.
You can also see in that video, he's shorting the 2 points for going into EDL Mode
I honestly hope for you that it's not locked. Is your phone still rebooting and crashing constantly?
If it helps you to know, I took out the back of my phone and held the 2 Test-points while connecting my phone to my PC, so that it starts into EDL Mode, instead of trying to boot the damaged bootloader. Then the technician who I paid, did the flash remotely.
Does ODIN say anything? Have you checked out QPST? Installed the Qualcomm 9008 driver?
For the sake of this I'm downloading the latest ROM for my Galaxy Note 8 and checking the content of the archive for any MBN-files. I mean if it has MBN-files, flashing through EDL must be possible, no?
I can't seem to be able to extract or even just find the partition images, Samsung's tar.enc4 ROMs are so convoluted.
But so far it seems from the YouTube videos that you might be able to use one of these cables, supposedly EDL cables, go into that RDX Mode or Upload Mode, and from there rebooting into EDL Mode.
Seems so unnecessarily complicated.
But even then, you need files to flash... And I don't know which you'd flash. Samsung's proprietary crap, just like how Fastboot Mode is replaced with ODIN Mode.

So firstly my phone legit shows no sign of life lmfao, besides some extremely fast white flicker when trying to go into recovery or download mode. Odin says nothing, QPST says nothing nor does device manager show a Qualcomm 9008 device. I'm going to take a gamble on a cable on eBay to see if he's wrong, which hopefully he is cause I'd be pretty sad knowing my phone is full rage mode bricked and need to swap out the logic board for a $60 one on eBay lol. Wish me luck, also I seriously don't feel like heating the back glass of my phone to try and find 2 points that might not even exist then get some new adhesive to put the back glass back on its a damn hassle.

Do you have an MBN file for your phone? I tried to search online and couldn't find one.
Because I think that's what you need to flash, they contain the bootloader (afaik)
QPST or the other EDL Mode programs don't use Samsung's .md5-format ROMs because they're only for ODIN Mode (again, AFAIK).
I also understand not wanting to take apart your phones' back. I spent a few hours, heating it up a bit and lifting up the back just a few millimeters so I can cut away the adhessive with a paper-thingy. It went well, but with a glass-back, there's a risk.

Nope. but I could ask the r/AndroidRoot if they got one.
Apparently, EDL firmwares don't exist for Samsung. Which means my phone is fully bricked.

Yeah... I researched a bit more and just couldn't find one for your Galaxy Note 8.
There are websites with a collection of (supposedly leaked) Firehose-files, they are named after the phones' SOC number. Your Galaxy Note 8 uses a Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 and the "8998" is what it would be listed as, if the Firehose file for it got leaked on the internet.
BTW, Firehose is just what the protocol/connection/language is called, when the QPST Tool speaks to the phone in EDL-Mode.
Seems like you're sh*t outta luck mate...
@FrozenSalad
Wait, your model is N950U and not N950F, right? Whoops.
This might actually help you: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/note-8-n950u-qdl9008-edl-mode-unbrick-rom-is-here.3851345/
The Mediafire-Links in the 2nd post have everything, it seems, to flash in QPST in EDL Mode.

A lot of people had no luck back then.
