Question Can you enable carrier aggregation on HK S21 Ultra G9980? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Hello,
I live in the US but purchased the Hong Kong model S21 Ultra, model SM-G9980. This model is using the Snapdragon chip set, and supports dual physical SIM. It supports LTE bands 2,4,12 yet it has not been aggregating any of the LTE bands in areas which I know a US model would.
As far as I'm aware, there is no access to a hidden network menu that will allow you to toggle carrier aggregation options.
I wanted to attempt installing the T-Mobile USA CSC, but Sammobile doesn't have any US model S21 Ultra firmware yet.
Does anyone know of a way I can enable carrier aggregation?

Update: I found the T-Mobile S21 Ultra firmware. Using a cracked version of ODIN I tried to install just the HOME_CSC for the T-Mobile variant. It immediately failed and now my phone won't even allow me into download mode again without showing "error while downloading."
I was able to bypass that and this time I filled in all the Taiwan G9980 but used the US XAA Home_CSC. This appeared to be working until the very end of the installation process when it finally said FAIL!

Update 2: I downloaded the Taiwan version of the firmware. Still not aggregating LTE. I also have a feeling 5G is not working because the phone won't aggregate the LTE anchor associated with N41 5G in my area. Really hoping to figure this out sooner than later!

Update 3: On a forum discussing the G9880 found HERE someone noted that 5G only worked in the "SIM 2" slot on that model. I switched my SIM to SIM2 and now the 5G icon is appearing, although I have checked *#0011# and noticed that it does not show any NR band connected, only Band 2 LTE. Note the photo below...

Samsung requires all binaries to match a signature for that specific firmware so you cannot flash US Home_CSC or other files on Taiwanese S21 even though it is Snapdragon.
So far only one person has figured out how to get CA and enable US bands on Asian Snapdragon model Galaxy series phone.
Their username is Mdyche82. Check their post here, sadly he lost the SSD before he could post a howto.
eSIM?
So, I've read in several places the US N20U has eSIM. I see the eSIM control app is in stalled. But that's all I see of it. Even an article here on XDA says all N20Us have eSIM except Japan, Korea and China. Can anyone confirm? And if so, how...

Hi @teedawgg! I work with website called cacombos.com where I have listed over 300 different devices and supported Carrier Aggregation combinations. I don't have any details from your device yet (you can contribute log to cacombos.com/contribute if you like) but I think your device doesn't have US CA combinations defined to modem firmware. Even switching firmware's doesn't change hardware combinations.
Seems second SIM slot activate 5G-support but it requires your device support 5G combinations (EN_DC) and I think HK model doesn't.
But please share QMDL log from your device to cacombos.com/contribute so then we know more what combinations your device modem support. I don't recommend buy device from other regions because this could be issue. Free to browse other devices on my site to learn more about Carrier Aggregation and Dual Connectivity supports.

Hello ! I am in Canada and I am still not convinced if I change my device for this one. But if i take one is will be the same model like you the SM-G9980. Because you can have it cheaper than directly than the company with a dual sim , another big advantage is the unlocked bootloader.
So I know that this model is directly without doing anything compatible with the carriers from the USA and Canada too for the 3G and 4G. I know that 5G is not yet compatible with. I know that the 5g bands in canada is n66 (1700) i don't know which one is for USA?
I'm curious if you have found something that works for unlocking bands network? And also if you can flash a firmware from another country? With your message it does not seem like it is possible? and what does it really bring more finally to use the SIM2? And honestly I don't care about 5G, not a lot of zones available, consuming a lot on the battery and more.. the 4G is still a lot faster.. I'm just curious about this.

Where you able to load a US firmware?

Canadian model of S20+ 5G doesn't support Carrier Aggregation used in India I think. Here is listed supported combinations: https://cacombos.com/device/SM-G986W

The Snapdragon 888 will allow aggregation of those two bands. ... There are three models of Samsung's latest: The Galaxy S21, the S21+ and the S21 Ultra.

Make sure you have correct region device because different region device support different combinations. These are defined to modem firmware. Best way buy own region device. Help me to keep cacombos.com updated by sending your device log to cacombos.com/contribute.

US model of Samsung doesn't support 38-3 CA combination. I don't have exactly your model combinations so you can contribute your device to https://cacombos.com/contribute
But I think your model very close for these:

Hello guys,
I might be able to help you guys out. I had this same issue with my S21 ultra bought from samsung us store but was able to find a work around. Not sure If this would work for you guys but you might as well give it a try. You will need to download QPST, QXDM and have samsung and qualcomm drivers installed.
1. Make sure to have usb debugging on
2. Connect phone to usb and open dialer type *#0808# and select RMNET+DM+MODEM+ADPL(MDM) and leave it there
3. Open QPST and add new port. ( you should see the phone showing up in one of the COM ports ) add this port.
4. Launch EFS Explorer (Start Clients menu)
5. Select phone port that shows an ESN. ( the one added before ) it should take a moment to load
6. Navigate to / nv / Item_files / modem / lte / rrc / cap folder
7. Backup the "prune_ca_combos" file to our computer
8. Delete this file from the phone and reboot.
You should be getting LTE+ after reboot. Let me know if this helped you guys out. @moksjm @FearLesS007 @teedawgg @Max128

The SM-G9980 Hong Kong variant is a unique model. It's not possible to flash most firmware to this device, the only alternatives are CHC (China) and BRI (Taiwan). At this time regardless of the firmware you flash your device isn't capable of enabling CA or 5G services. If it were me I would flash the original CSC (TGY) as it much more user friendly than the Taiwan or China firmware.

Note 8 N9500 4G+ (advanced LTE) problem

Hi guys,
i'm using a Note 8 N9500 128gb in italy, with TIM carrier.
under 4G coverage, the phone rarely show the 4G+ icon in the status bar, but other phones like the older Note 4/Note Edge, shows 4G+ icon in same situation. In my house for example there is full 4G+ coverage with the Note Edge and LG V10 that connected in 4G+, meanwhile Note 8 only shows 4G icon.
with the Note 8 i have saw the 4G+ only a couple of times...
is the Note 8 antenna that bad?
or can it be another kind of problem?
Solved
Sad story....
Note 8 N9500 support all bands used here in Italy, B3, B7 and B20, but only support carrier aggregation with bands B3+B7 and not B3+B20
Hi!
I have also SM-N9500 csc is TGY(HONGKONG)
you can check here

it is only Rom problem,
normaly SM-N9500 much more capable from SM-N950FD,
but i think china don't give a permissions for video calling,
and our SM-N9500 has a software barrier for this.
Are there any people will solve this problem?

You are right about CA. 4G+ just means CA is active, 4G is still LTE. Same goes for LTE & LTE+ icons for other variants/CSC which is the equivalent to 4G & 4G+. When I get high speeds I'm usually connected to only one band & CA is inactive, well that's the case for my area anyway.
My N950F originaly had 4G & 4G+ icons. If you use Network Cell Info the app will show you. I'm using TMB CSC now & they don't use seperate icons. The icon is 4G/LTE whether CA is active or not but with Network Cell Info I can see when CA activates.
If you change your CSC to your country or carrier you may get the additional CA combos for your area.

Use Phone INFO or Shortcut Master & try to launch 467 (IMS Settings). Under IMS Service Switch see if you have MMTEL switch, VoLTE, VoLTE-Video etc. Enable them if you do to see if that works.
N9500 snapdragon
Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping me out. I've got the imported N9500 256GB dual sim which runs a snapdragon chiset. In South Africa, where I'm from, the local devices are Exynos. The CSC for all these devices are obviously for Exynos chipsets. Here's my question, would it be possible to get my country's CSC for the snapdragon variant? My country code is XFV (VODACOM / VODAFONE) or XFE (UNBRANDED)
The reason I'm asking is because my Note 8 won't ever connect to LTE-A unlike my locally sourced A8 2018. If the above is not possible is there any other way of getting the carrier aggregation to work? Thanks in advance.

carrier aggregation Samsung Galaxy S10+ F/FD models

anyone managed to get into and activate it
even with root, we can't use that menu
s10 exynos has crappy signals on t mobile
hoping i could change that
There is no way to change Samsung Exynos Carrier Aggregation. This is EU/Global model and i think it doesn't support CA with US Bands.
You can check supported bands and CA support when you collect log from your device: https://mt-tech.fi/en/how-to-get-4g-supported-ca-combinations-from-your-android-phone/ . Please share log to https://cacombos.com/contribute then could list bands and combinations supported in US:
I have already some listed here: https://cacombos.com/device?model=SM-G975F but could missing some.

I have TMobile and have no signal issues. Even the US unlocked S10 doesn't support carrier aggregation, you'd have to buy the Tmo branded S10. I purposely went out of my way to get a G973F so I can have an unlocked bootloader and root. The only band missing from the G973F for Tmo is band 71 which is only a big deal if you live in rural areas. I'm in Massachusetts and there is no band 71 here at all. Considering the G973F has all the same bands as the G973U besides band 71 I doubt you would be getting any better signal with it unless you're in one of the few remote areas with band 71.
It mostly comes down to what your carrier provides in your area. For example where I am (Western NY) Verizon & AT&T I can get it however with TMobile I can't even get a 4g signal. I had an s9 (g960F) when I tested this and the same is showing for my s10e. I would strongly recommend trying AT&T.

Question S21 Ultra 5G Snapdragon US unlocked version doesn't show 5G icon in the UK

Hi All,
I have recently bought an Unlocked US snapdragon version of Galaxy S21 ultra 5g but I live in UK. Since the day 1, I have never experienced 5G icon on notifications area here in London. I only see LTE. My SIM is 5G enabled. Is there any difference between the US snapdragon 888 version and UK Exynos 2100 as I am not seeing this 5G icon.
OR, if someone knows if there is a chance to get benefit of 5G here in London with my US version.
I look forward to getting your answers...
Thanks,
If your version is dual sim, try putting the sim on 2nd sim card slot. Otherwise, I would contact Samsung about it.
I thought the US and UK used different bands and that is why Samsung use the different chipsets based on the countries 5G bands. There is a small overlap in the high bands around 27/28 Ghz but that would depend on the bands you Uk provider uses. That is why they do not recommend buying devices from abroad.
The US unlocked won't get 5G in Europe

It would depend on many things, 1) The SD support your carriers 5G band, 2) the firmware supporting the 5G, 3) your plan with carrier supporting 5G.
(1) and (2) may be supported depending on the carriers bands, you would need to ask your carrier.
(3) for example, previous EE plans do not include 5G in the plan and only if you upgrade to a 5G plan can you connect at 5G. My last phone did not do 5G so the plan was a 4G plan, upgrading the phone meant I had to upgrade the plan.
It's not whether your carrier will add 5G, it's the bands that they add that matter. European 5G bands are not the same as US 5G bands. Samsung doesn't include both in a single version of the s21 (apple does). You either have the US version or the various global versions. I have the HK version. It's a snapdragon like the US (and dual sim) but it only gets 5G in Europe (and HK of course).

it's set up to receive a different set frequencies than are mostly used in Europe as others have said.
Hey. Ignore the incorrect advice from both your carrier and other users here.
Your S21 from the US includes band n78 support even though it isn't advertised.
You just need to enable it and remove the NR whitelist.
You can do it through the service menu (access through Google Dialer).

The service menu was unfortunately disabled on the US versions many months ago...
*Edit* - To clarify this, I'm sure that the code is probably the same as before, however, when you type it in on the US phones (using Google Phone, of course), the number instantly deletes itself and doesn't allow the menu to open. This was either just before or after launch (I can't remember which one as I had a Note 20 Ultra and exchanged it for this phone just after it released). But just before I did the phone exchange, all of a sudden, I couldn't access that service menu anymore on my Note 20U as it had just been blocked on the US phones. Furthermore, both of my phones were unlocked, and so it doesn't seem to be a carrier dependent thing =(

Not really true. Just add a 2 at the end of the old code, click the first menu option, then 3 dot, back. Click the first option, and again, 3 menu, back. And now you've got the old service menu back.
We still have QPST access to if they ever block that second code

Only if they add the specific US bands, which is as likely as the UK Ministry of Transport regulating that the UK will start driving on the left to be in line with the US, but phasing it in, and starting only with Heavy Goods Vehicles first.

Question Can SM-G9980 (HK dual sim) be hacked to get 5G in US?

Does anyone know? It's a physical dual sim, but it is a snapdragon, exactly the same as the US versions. The US bands in 5G are not enabled on this particular model. Can it be hacked to have US 5G enabled? I have read about switching on dormant bands on the US models to get 5G in Europe. Is it possible to do the same, but the other way around, for this non US model to get 5G in the US?
It's not the sane device in hardware or firmware although there are similarities. According to a few users 5G works in some regions, Australia and Europe but I haven't heard this from any US users. Can someone root the device to enable 5G on US Service Provider's? Maybe but I would think it's a challenging endeavor for anyone but the most hardcore tech gurus.

Only 5G sub6 bands are available in HK variant - 1, 3, 28, 41, 78 and 79. Is your network using any of these?

Question AIO for the 998B/DS ?

I am in the United States and I have cricket, I just purchased the dual sim 998B/DS and I am not finding any ATT or AIO CSC for the phone. I am not able to get 5G over here on this phone so far so I am hoping somehow it would help with the cricket CSC. Maybe I am wrong, Cricket used the imei and swore it would work as well as Tmobile, neither sim cards allow 5g so far.
See at >Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G<.
There are huge differences between 5G bands support for the US and international versions.
So it doesn't surprise me at all that the inter-national model doesn't work in the US broadcasters' 5G bands.
I wasn't actually trying to surprise anyone, just seeing if anyone has a solution?
The problem is not in the phone and there is no way to replace hardware that does not support the US 5G band.
I read somewhere that in some models of Chinese devices it is possible to make a programmatic change in the hidden settings of the phone using a code entered in the phone's keypad. Try it.

I am not able to get 5G over here on this phone
Click to collapse
The international Variant does not support the needed frequencies for 5G in USA - physically
There is no way to use 5G in US, without the Snapdragon Variant
Thanks
