Green artifacts in camera recording - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I've got a problem with my camera. When I record with either the front facing or rear facing camera I get a load of green artifacts that get pissed all over the image as shown below:

}
I've tried clearing data and cache from the camera app and that didn't work.
The recording looked fine on snapchat and messenger though, which confused me. I assumed this is because of the resolution the apps record in and so I've checked what resolutions I get the artifacts in.
Front camera looks fine at 720p and 1440p, but gets mad artifacts at 1080p.
Rear camera gets artifacts at 1080p (30 and 60fps), 30fps 1440p and 30fps 4k.
At 720p 30fps and 4k 60fps everything looks fine. Also, with the resolutions above the preview as I record gets all stuttery and seems unstable too.
I thought it might be a hardware fault with the rear camera, but the front camera has the same issue. Do they share something that could break both of them? Or is this some weird software glitch?
Thanks for any answers.

Sounds like a software related issue with the stock camera app.
Can you flash another firmware version. Hopefully an update is available for your device.

Thank you for your suggestion. I've re-flashed the phone (clean install using this guide) and the issue still persists - but it's nowhere near as bad as it was. I'll get a green flicker every couple of seconds rather than have a full-on simulation of the matrix. Seems like software had something to do with it, but there's something else afoot.
Edit: Seems to have gotten worse over more tests, I don't actually have a clue anymore.

[ROOT] 60fps 1080p video recording + Highest photo quality mod

For Android N, go to this page:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/themes/root-image-quality-video-bitrate-t3553614
Hi everyone,
Coming from a rooted and modded G2 , It was weird for me not to have 60fps video recordings as I mainly used 60fps before.
This weekend I took it upon myself to find a solution for it.
The good news:
It works, we have FHD 60fps video recording.
The bad news:
It comes with a tiny limitation - I couldn't make the wide angle camera to work with 60fps.
What does it mean?
1. Even if FHD60fps mode is chosen, wide angle will only record in 30fps.
2. If you will start recording a video using the main 16MP camera on 60fps, and during this recording you will change to the wide angle lens, from the moment you change to the wide angle the recording will use 30fps (even if you go back to the main lens after).
Screenshot:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-D1R0L7NVDIdnJzZ3FPMmxWb2s/view?usp=sharing
Note:
-I own an H850 European variant. As far as I know, it should't make any difference as long as you are rooted.
Update: Tested also on H830 (Thanks lordodin912).
I've tested the "60fps camera mod + 64Mbit UHD" and the "Restore original" zip files. "60fps camera mod" should be identical but I haven't tested it yet.
-If you encounter pink screen when HDR is on, xbenjiiman updated us that 10d fixed the issue for him. Thanks.
Important:
-If you encounter hiccuping in the video (and you probably will), turn off "steady" in the camera settings. You should see "OIS" icon instead. The hiccuping should be gone and you can enjoy smooth 60fps.
Warning:
As always, backup your device before. Just in case.
I am not responsible for any damage to your phone from using this mod.
That's it, enjoy 60fps!

*No need to delete cache \ dalvik etc..
If for some reason you're having any issues with the camera, first try to delete the camera app data in the phone's settings.

Not sure about "many" optimizations but it includes all the optimizations I know: 100% photo quality , higher bitrate, 60fps.
Keep in mind, disable "steady" (so the icon will show "OIS") setting when recording 60fps to avoid glitches.

Yeah but it's pretty stupid to have a second app for one recording mode + you can't access the wide angle lens from there (I'm assuming).

OK then now you don't need a second app for that. In addition, you get better photo quality for photos and higher bitrate for video. Your choice of course.

It seems that the wide lens hardware is not capable of 60 fps recording. I tried put the 60 fps profile in video_sub_rear_supported in camera_config.xml, it let et me choose the FHD60 in camera setting, but it just record at 30 fps

I just tested recording with HDR on, I don't get any pink screen but I'm using an H850. Which model are you using? Does anybody else gets pink screen?

I can confirm pink screen with HDR on FHD60. Couldn't reproduce it though...after the first time it seems to have gone away. H830 btw.
Here's a pic of what it looked like.
Just in case, try deleting the camera data + cache (from the phone's settings under Apps).

Same here. Immediate crash when switching to front camera.
Also, with all the gamma/contrast settings - the photos get extremely yellowish.

I switched to video mode, recorded a few seconds of video and switched back to photo mode. The rear camera should work, but not the front camera for me, still.
Edit: I tried again and it doesn't work, but will if you repeat the above process after clearing the app data.
if you switch to lens blur mode and then switch to front camera, you can take pictures. it would be great if front camera is fixed. this mod is great.

Is there a way to make that front camera also works?
Has anyone got the white balance figures right for the pro? The ones listed are far too red, have reduced the red down to 90% which is a lot better but whites arent white - far too much yellow. Have tried various settings but cant get it perfect
Ok so i adjusted settings in the office, got the white where i wanted it. Went out for a walk and took a few pics comparing. Unfortunately there's still far too much blue once outside (didn't notice it under inside lights), this was with the minimum selectable at 60.

I dont think it looks too bad, the stock cam hdr is complete crap you shouldnt use it lol it looks so unnatural. I think it is colder (more blue, like taken through sunglasses) but it still looks somewhat natural. especially not oversharpened like stock cam...

Artifacts (problems) in stock camera

Hi!
I noticed some randomly appearing flickering artifacts (they have random shape, random position on the screen and can appear once an hour or every second) ONLY while viewing image from rear camera via stock camera app. But they didn't appear on video, which I recorded via screen recording app. So, my Mi A2 (I bought it a week ago) is non-rooted and has locked bootloader. Build number is PKQ1.180904.001.V10.0.2.0.PDIMIFJ (Android 9 Pie). Reboot and factory reset didn't help. Did anyone have something like that? Help me please!

It appears in daylight too.
Hi I have the same problem.
I have the android One 4gb global version, (Sweden)
android pie 9.0 V10.0.2.0
Tried rebooting and factory reset.
Reset cache memory in the camera 2.0 app didn't help.
Have tried different camera apps, same problem.
And i noticed when i look at different streaming sites the artifacts patches appear on the video.
I have described the problem in the feedback app.

I don't think this is because of the anti banding. They appears at daylight, but more often at lowlight conditions. And for me they are completely black random shaped things, and they doesn't appear on video, so i think its not the camera's fault. Maybe an update will fix it.

They are rarely appear, and has no affect on videos/pics, so not a very big deal, just annoying sometimes. Im on stock pie too, i haven't tried flashing any different roms, now i'm waiting for the january update, if it does not fix it, i will send it back.
This happening to my Global 4/64 A2 on Pie. BTW, it does not happen with OpenCamera, only with the stock camera app.

Can't recored video in ultra wide with HDR10+ ?

Hi guys,
Today I tried my first video recording with the ultra wide lens.
When I got back home to check my video, I noticed the picture is many times closer than it should be, and very pixelated.
Here are screenshots to show what I mean:

When I'm far (shows the original wide angle)
I tried to take a video in my house and the same thing happens. It records perfectly wide but when I go into gallery to watch it, suddenly it's 5 times closer and all pixelated.
I think I found the issue, once I disabled the HDR10+ the problem goes away. But why?
Is this a software issue? Is my phone is bad? or just impossible to shoot properly with this mode on?
Edit: This seems to happen only in Full Screen ratio with HDR10+ enabled.
Is this normal?
Also how do you convert the HDR10+ to regular video? It says I can do it within the gallery but I see no option to do so.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks but that's not the issue. Please read the post again and check the photos uploaded.
Once I am close to the phone, it will go out of wide lens and pixelate everything as shown in first image.
When I move far from phone, it goes back to normal wide lens.
Not sure what is happening and why.

Question Video camera cropped in on Android 12

Hi, I've run into another new issue with Android 12 and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing it. Inside the camera app, the video ends up seriously cropped compared to how it was on Android 11. Whereas before I could shoot indoor things (cat videos, etc) with the normal lens, now I'm having to go out to the ultrawide to fit things in frame. For now I'm getting around it by using a custom older version of Gcam, but I'd like to just use the normal app if possible. Is anyone else seeing this?
This is with the stock app:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Compared to how it was with Android 11 and on the custom Gcam app
As you can see, it's a significant amount of cropping. Both with the same standard stabilization enabled. (And pardon the messy desk)
I also tried installing the older 8.2 APK, but to no avail. It's older than the 8.3 that comes with the OS, so you can't go back further than that. And also my old technique for resigning apps to make the system think they're separate apps doesn't seem to be working, but if anyone could figure out a way to do that, I'm all ears.
It's normal. This how EIS works.

Did you even read? This is considerably more cropped than the same stabilization setting on Android 11. It turns it from perfectly usable to completely worthless. And if I'm recording 1080p60 or 4K, it's actually recording at less than full resolution and blowing it up, which looks terrible.
It is normal I think that is how it works.
I think I understand your question but I don't think I recorded any videos before upgrading to Android 12, so I don't have any comparison. I agree that the "1x" video on 12 has a narrower field of view than the equivalent "1x" still photo mode. Allso the video UI does not seem to have any option to disable image stabilization completely. I see that it offers .6x only for standard and cinematic pan. The other modes start at 1x or 2x, so I'm not even sure if the number always means the same sensor.
Yeah, I experienced the same issue, using exactly the same video camera settings the video on Android 12 has much narrower fov. I find it strange that no one is talking about this, maybe no one cares, but when making indoors videos it's a big deal since you have to switch to the wide angle lens, which gathers much less light.

The ultrawide camera also lacks autofocus, so if you're trying to film something close-up like a computer screen, it won't be in focus. This is definitely a major issue.
I just noticed that when you pull down the settings pane in the camera app, click "More settings", and scroll down, you can find a toggle to disable video stabilization. This gives a wider field of view and seems to show a similar lightly shaded on-screen control for stabilization. Trying to touch that control raises a hint to enable stabilization in the settings.
Are you sure that the Android 11 and custom app are enabled and not in this funny state with the partial shading of the control button?
