edl mode 9008 v40 very easy - LG V40 Questions & Answers

(french) hello
I could not start in edl mode with the xda instructions but I found a videos
phone on android, connected to the computer by usb. you keep pressing the power button and the volume down button.
when the screen goes black immediately you strafe the volume + button for 2 sec.
the secret is the windows song if the phone is on. when you hear windows song strafe the volume +. i know I did it with my phone off and my phone on quite a few times
normally your computer will recognize the phone in the correct mode. if there is a problem do not forget to install these drivers and restart the computer as it will stay in edl mode and will be well supported.

no no we should not confuse.
there is download mode in originale lg phone for flash stock roms
there is "edl mode" for unlock bootloader
there is fastboot mode when you unlock the bootloader with this screen.
a tips. root first your phone. 2 backup your firmware. 3 flash twrp. i had problem because i don't do this. there is stock firmware already rooted. its easily.

Unfortunately, I am unable to root because I am unable to unlock the bootloader (because I can't go to fastboot to get Device ID & send it to LG)

But you can get to fastboot, just not the way you read on the internet.
The device doesn't have fastboot available, until, you put it in edl mode and use qfil to flash the 'engineering' abl. That's what gives you fastboot.
You could, at that point, use fastboot to get the info for unlock.bin. But why? because at that point you can just type 'fastboot oem unlock', and it's unlocked.

Unlock only works with Oreo ??
I have Pie
How do I downgrade without root ?
Is it possible ?

If I can flash a firmware without root
I'd be more than happy to flash a custom rom which has LG's apps instead of Google annoying ones.

Xiaomi has auto bricked after update- need help

Hey guys, i have MI A2 cellphone, and after auto update programmed to three hours the smartphone show "AndroidONE" logo and then shutdown, i tried "Fastboot oem unlock", but it is my output:
PHP:
C:\Users\Lucas Daniel>fastboot oem unlock
FAILED (remote: 'Flashing Unlock is not allowed
')
Finished. Total time: 0.000s
. I'm desperate, I do not know what to try anymore, I believe I do not have unlock OEM activated, someone can help me?
Sorry for bad english, i'm from brazilian.
@LukeSkyPTBR
It's a well-known issue. One update was revoked as soon as Xiaomi has found out about phones bricking once it's installed. There's no way you can fix it by yourself except if you have ordered your phone from China (and so no warranty you have) and have experience in disassembling phones. There's a thing called test-point, do some research if you are self-assured in that area. Otherwise let your authorized service center make everything for you. It is a warranty case, either way.

Thanks, looks that, unfortunately, my unique solution is test-point for activate EBL Mode... I will leave the topic open for the case of i get other solutions... after 3 days, if not get, i will close and the unique solution will really test-point.
Try rebooting it a couple of times and see if it boots. Or plug it to a charger and try booting it once it starts to charge successfully. If all fails, flashing via EDL might be your only option.
Try rebooting more than couple of time. Phone is supposed to switch to the other slot of A/B where original ROM (before update) resides. When it finally boots, get developer rights, switch on ADB Debugging and OEM unlock, thus next time update soft-bricks your phone you'll be able to unlock (or even better unlock immediately after successful boot not to loose your data in future).
Isnt Fastboot OEM Unlock command deprecated ? Shouldn't you use the unlock / unlock critical command ?

How can I do it? I leave the phone in the charger for a long time? Or do you need the power button for a long time?
I tried to press the power button for 2 minutes and nothing happened.
When i leave the smartphone on the charge, after 50 minutes, show for me 100% percent, so, i pressed power button and the screen stayed lock in "AndroidONE", nothing happened, until try again press power button.

I can enter fastboot mode, but this is not enough to do run commands up. I would need unlock bootloader(OEM).

If you can enter fastboot then you can go to EDL mode by typing 'fastboot reboot edl' and then use QPST to flash the latest stock rom.

Do as tabun1994 said.
This will hopefully get the system up again.
The commands I wrote would unlock the bootloader. What else could I have meant?
If you succeeded with tabun's method, then you probably would only need to enable "USB debugging" and "OEM unlocking" in the ROM's developer options (which you'll enable by hitting "build number" in settings like 10 times or so).
Then you would connect the device and accept the 'trust this device' warning.
After booting to fastboot now, the commands I wrote should work and unlock the bootloader (if you even want that when your system is running again).

This command needs OEM Unlock :/
this is my output: fastboot: usage: unknown reboot target edl
The test point method is actually easy , you have to dissasemble the display , easy procedure , remove the battery and short the two test points with tweezerz or something ,and in the meantime you plug the usb cable into the computer. It should install the Qusb_Hub drivers , and with miFlash you should be able to reflash the firmware . I bought a phone that was in this state and fixed it using these steps.
No more solutions, I will do the test point method, thanks to everyone who tried to help otherwise.

No it doesn't, i have tried this method on locked bootloader, go to this link - https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...e-how-to-reboot-to-edl-fastboot-t3394292/amp/
And download the fastboot_edl.7z , your phone will be in edl mode, I think you don't have the proper platform files which has caused the problem.

Redmi 4 (Santoni) bricked. Please help.

I unlocked my redmi 4 (Santoni) boot loader and flashed pixel experience ROM (https://mega.nz/#F!INZgnAZI!9fuWhfCuazOO5YPBjxGlmA). It was working fine for a few days (Small heating issue was there). Then one day while i was charging the phone the phone turned off and never turn back on. When i try to switch on the mi logo flashes for a split second and then turns off. I tried to get into recovery but couldn't.
I can get into fastboot mode. I tried flashing the phone using Mi flash tool and fastboot rom. But it shows an error "flash tz error". When i tried an old version of mi flash tool i get the "Unspecified error (0x80004005: FAILED (remote: Critical partition flashing is not allowed))

I had the same exact problem, i put my phone on charge & when i came back to check it was switched off. It wouldn't turn on except the mi logo. I tried to flash through fastboot turns out my bootloader was re-locked for some reason. I had to re-unlock it then proceed on to fash fastboot miui rom. Check if your bootloader is locked or not.

This is a good idea! Probably u first try to install trwp in fastboot mode. If this doesn't work try to unlock bootloader again and then install trwp.
When all these Option doesn't work u still can open the phone and use edl fastboot mode to flash miui again.

Tried unlocking boot loader and was not successful because the phone was bricked. My only option was to use edl test point. Now i installed miui 11. (Aprart from some minor bugs which can be eliminated by reflashing some other roms) Thank you guys. Now my phone is successfully unbricked.
For somebody who is having the same issues,
My phone (Redmi 4_Santoni) was completely bricked. The only thing i can access was fastboot by pressing the volume down + Power button combination. But i could not install twrp or any other recovery because my boot loader was locked. I got it fixed completely with the help of you guys (Thanks again) and i want to share the procedure i went through.
Condition: Completely bricked with only fastboot access, Locked bootloader.
I tried this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j27x5iJSS40) but failed because i could not access recovery. So my only solution was to use edl test point flashing. I followed this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74818435&postcount=3. It was very easy to do. But in the device manager (Press Windows key + R and then type devmgmt.msc and press enter) instead of showing "Qualcomm HS-USB QDloader 9008", the device is shown as "Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 900E". The problem was you have to plug in in USB cable while the test points is being connected with a pair of tweezers or a paperclip as shown in the link above.
Make sure you already downloaded the latest mi flash tool from here https://xiaomiflashtool.com/ and download fast boot rom from the official website. (Go to https://en.miui.com/ Click rom downloads. Click flashing guide. Download the fastboot rom from there for your device.) Now flash your device using mi flash tool and voila. your phone is unbricked.
Thank you guys..

Ungrey out bootloader

I am having major issues with GFIL working. My bootloader showed locked, though I know it was unlocked. Now it is grey out and says it is unlocked, it there a way to get that back to showing locked so I can manually unlock it again.
I am thinking that is the only reason QFIL is not working
Thank you:good:
Qfil only works if you entered the bulk or 9008 mode only. If you have unlocked your bootloader and reflashed or flashed a stock kdz for your device you will now have to relock and unlock it again, a reason why its greyed out.

It is unlocked, but greyed out. QFIL won't work so no way to get into fastboot, to lock and unlock. So I am pretty well SOL.. QFIL won't bring up the option to get into Partiton Manager.
You dont need qfil to get into fastboot as thats a method from Xsavi for bootloader unlocking. Use the files in Xsavis post https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/development/unlock-lg-v40-via-9008-root-t-mobile-t4042207 . how did you get into fastboot mode in the first place to unlock it? Does Qfil show 9008 mode? if not showing 9008 it mean you didnt do it right. You need to relock the bootloader after you flash back the original kdz, do the steps to unlock again or else you cant flash twrp.

Yeah flash the v35 eng image onto the abl_a partition but back up your abl_a first before doing that incase it messed up. After you have done that you should press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until your device reboots out of 9008. When you hear the disconnect sound, immediately hold volume down (only volume down) to enter fastboot right away.
If still no fastboot then after you have sucessfully unlocked bootloader and stuff then youll need qfil to flash twrp onto abl_a.

Does device Manager show your in "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008"? Are you setting storage type to "UFS" in Qfil? Are your COM ports correct in device manager and in QFil? I ask these questions just incase you did something wrong but All I know is if your device does not have fastboot then qfil will be the one you need to flash twrp. Also make sure your using a USB 2.0 port as 3.0 has issues with the V40. Other thing is if your phones developer setting has OEM unlock greyed out then you will need to relash original kdz and relock bootloader and unlock again otherwise youll have fastboot fail with twrp flash. You don't need fastboot for qfil to work unless your phone is bricked if its just black screen and no light and if you cant boot into your phone.

Yeah your probably screwed if you locked it with a custom rom or twrp. This a reason why I rather go with US unlvoked variant. AT&T also never releases software or firmwares for their phones and verizon removing fastboot. US carriers want your money thats the reason they do all these

as lexih is pointing out, **if** your device is an original oepn 405ebw, I'm pretty sure that is the only version that LG **officially** allows bootloader unlock for. **Assuming** that is the device you have (not flashed to, but the actual device), then contact LG.
Otherwise, follow the thread lexih provided for how to use qfil to flash the engineering abl to the abl partition, and it will allow you to unlock the device. Follow all the instructions, I'm just paraphrasing here, there are quite a few steps involved.

Question Blackscreen loop booting

Hi,
I'm stuck with my phone: it still loopbooting every 5seconds, black screen, only retrolight.
Bootloader is unlocked. I wanted to install twrp, but fastboot says partition recovery not existing.
After reboot, i'm stuck with this mod.
Try to press volume - to go again in fastboot : phone is detected by computer, then disconnected because it's rebooting.
Do you have a solution to try for me?
Or what are EDL point? I've tried to make an ELD cable but did not work either.
How long is your bootloader keeps active? If it's about 5 - 10 seconds, you can try paste the command to flash stock recovery. I attached it if it's possible to do so (from the latest global). And by the way - THERE IS STILL NO ANY CUSTOM RECOVERY for our device, sadly. Actually there is some, but only mouse works.
The commands to paste:

Sorry but my bootloader don't stay active long enough. I just ear usb detection from PC , then one seconde later, usb disconnection sound.
Phone is still loop booting.
Can you try then pasting "fastboot oem edl" (emergency download mode). The screen should turn black
After that flash with Xiaomi Flash tool
I'm unable to enter in FastBoot mode.
Phone booting black, and every 5 seconds , reboot.
If i push "volume down " button, i hear it vibrate, but nothing. Reboot and not detected by fastboot.exe
I think i have, with all manipulation , relocked the bootloader.
My only way, will to find a way to boot in EDL mode.
Test points, which are unknown so far. You have to disassemble the phone, tho. And you can try to find these points yourself, at your own risk obviously. If you will succeed, pls tell me. We need to know the test points.

Press mobile three buttons and connect cable to pc to enter brom mode. Because mtk models don't have test point. So don't need to open mobile.
