Question Want to buy Snapdragon 888 variant in Australia, will 5G work? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Australia only sells Exyos variant. But I prefer Snapdragon 888. There are some stores like Amazon, Kogan that sells this.
However, I have seen people saying some 5G bands are not supported. I have been googled for a while still cannot figure out what are not supported.
Based on this website: https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/mobile_phone_frequencies Australia has those bands.
5G bands
3500MHz (n78) – Telstra (from May 2019)
3500MHz (n78) – Optus (from October 2019)
3500MHz (n78) – Vodafone (from March 2020)
2300MHZ (n40) – Optus (from June 2020)
700MHz (n28) – Vodafone (from November 2020)
850MHz (n5) – Telstra (from April 2020)
But I don't know where to find out if snapdragon 888 supports those bands? Are all SD variants supported 5G bands are the same, or different from different countries?

I bought the G9980 Hong Kong snapdragon 512/16 from bestmobilephone.com.au for $400 less than local model - I believe it's even cheaper now. Arrived in 3 business days. I have Optus. 5G and 4G+ works well no issues at all with the phone here in Aus. Even though the differences are meant to be small I couldn't buy the local exynos version knowing it was inferior to the SD.

Battery life is amazing exynos. Performance also amazing. Battery was topped up 12% so technically I'm at 18% not 30% in the screenshot.

Did you mean exynos is good?

5G is not well built in any country, it is still very limited and also not all bands are released to the public. The Hong Kong version may support one of the bands, but not all. I can't see any benefit right now in countries with less population like Australia. I live in Sweden and our 4G network is very well built, the coverage is great and capacity + coverage is amazing so i don't see any win with 5G that's why i am going to import a Snapdragon model from HK (Wonda Mobile).

umts 850 supported?

Hi,
does anybody know if this phone supports UMTS on 850 Mhz? According to the specification on the HTC Europe homepage it does not. Here in Latin America according to some salesman the version for America supports it. But since this model is not yet on the HTC Latin America homepage i'm not sure if it was already launched or if even exist a vesion for America.
thanks,
no version for US avail yet. The US version, assuming its a GSM phone (not CDMA), would support 850. But no announcement offically about that yet. ALL CURRENTLY AVAILABLE DIAMONDS as of July 2, 2008 DO NOT SUPPORT 850 UMTS, and to date, no one has found a way to make it support 850 UMTS (i.e. it is a hardware issue, not a software or ROM issue).
850 usa phone
If we (I) am lucky,,,this will happen.

It has been announced here in Australia that our biggest carrier, Telstra will market the Diamond exclusively for 3 months from the end of July with a 850/2100 UMTS version. Other carriers here use 900/2100 UMTS.
So where we normally get these devices early with Asia and Europe, this Telstra deal will push us back with the U.S. I don't think we will see a 900 UMTS version here till end October, unless we buy online from HK or elsewhere with compromised warranty.
Bummer.
Telstra in Australia has announced that the "NextG" i.e 850MHz UTMS/HSDPA diamond will be released in August
The Diamond will go on sale in Australia on July 28th at the T-Life stores in Sydney and Melbourne.
All other Telstra stores will stock it from August 4th.

S10 5G not carrier unlock-ible?

Hi guys. I was reading news of Qualcomm announcing X55 5G modem which is the follow up model to S10 5G’s X50 modem and one of the advantage was the new X55 isn’t carrier specific. From my limited understanding it seems X50 will only work on the carrier the phone is sold for and I assume limited to 4G LTE if roaming/unlocked. Does this mean the Verizon S10 5G available later this month can only get 5G on Verizon and the South Korean 5G model won’t work in the US?
Also, there is a Department of Defense paper last month on 5G race and it mentioned China is pushing the world to adapt 6GHz 5G standards while the US is pushing mmWAVE because 6GHz spectrums are allocated to the military in the US. It states most countries will adapt China’s standard as most countries have 6GHz free. I don’t know the advantage/disadvantage of 6GHz vs mmWAVE but does it means US 5G phones and carriers are incompatible with international 5G phones and carriers?
Sorry for the long questions. Thinking I should ask the experts here. Want to get a Verizon S10 5G to use on Sprint later this year.
It's my understanding that they will be carrier locked. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are all using some different bands in their 5G phones.
hello

Question Flash Korean snapdragon firmware to G998U1 to change available 5G bands

Hello,
can I flash the Korean snapdragon firmware to an American model (G998U1)?
If yes, will this change the available 5G bands to the ones in Korea? Thanks.
Korean model is Exynos this year.
Also, from reading the specs on Samsung Korea's Web site, it only supports N78 & N77 Sub6 bands
https://www.samsung.com/sec/smartphones/galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/specs/
Yesterday I tried flashing my U1 with a Taiwanese firmware and it did not succeed. I'm having the same issues with bands. Where I am they are using bands B3 + B20 for carrier aggregation. So right now I am only able to get LTE and not LTE-Advanced. I guess I'm missing some sort of profile? Because the phone does support these bands.

Unlikely, since dark11b said he tried Taiwan and it didn't work.
I think Taiwan & Hong can be cross flashed, but not with American models, for some reason.

Question Can SM-G9980 (HK dual sim) be hacked to get 5G in US?

Does anyone know? It's a physical dual sim, but it is a snapdragon, exactly the same as the US versions. The US bands in 5G are not enabled on this particular model. Can it be hacked to have US 5G enabled? I have read about switching on dormant bands on the US models to get 5G in Europe. Is it possible to do the same, but the other way around, for this non US model to get 5G in the US?
It's not the sane device in hardware or firmware although there are similarities. According to a few users 5G works in some regions, Australia and Europe but I haven't heard this from any US users. Can someone root the device to enable 5G on US Service Provider's? Maybe but I would think it's a challenging endeavor for anyone but the most hardcore tech gurus.

Only 5G sub6 bands are available in HK variant - 1, 3, 28, 41, 78 and 79. Is your network using any of these?

Samsung S20 FE SM-G781B/DS issues with 5G

I have a grey import South East Asian variant of this phone. I'm using it in Australia on Optus 5G network and I'm not seeing 5G?
In the SIM card settings it's set to 5G/LTE/3G/2G Auto but I only ever see 4G+ at best.
Do they use different 5G bands in SE Asia compared to Australia? If so is there anyway to get the 5G to work here in Australia?

Maybe you don't have 5G reception there. But there is a new firmware - maybe that will help

Yes, it's definitely in a 5G area as my work colleagues receive 5G with the same SIM. Would this firmware work with my Dual SIM version?
before flashing any firmware have a look at this app, I've not used it but others say it's helped them out.

there's definitely a chance that the bands the phone prefers to use don't exist where you are. you should do some research about what 5G bands that model number supports and about what Optus and Australia in general supports. 5G bands are weirdly named so be careful, hopefully you'll find some overlap.
