How do I upgrade from Magisk 20.4 to 22.0? - Magisk

Device: Samsung Galaxy On7
Android: 6.0.1
I have Magisk Manager 8.0.7 and Magisk 20.4 installed on my device. I went to the GitHub repo and found that the app and the zip have been combined in Magisk 22.0. Fine. But how do I upgrade to v22.0? When I open the app, it asks me to upgrade the app first. Okay, I do that. When I open the upgraded app, it can no longer find Magisk. I click on "Install" beside Magisk, choose Direct Install, and then it gives me an error: Device signature invalid.
Any help is appreciated.

if you have a custom recovery, change the magisk.apk file to.zip so it would be magisk.xx.zip then just flash it via twrp or whatever you have

Okay. Do I leave the old Manager as it is, or should I uninstall it before I flash the zip from TWRP?

I did exactly as specified by topjohnwu:
"If you're using rooted with Magisk phh's superuser, or Official Systemless SuperSU
Install Magisk Manager from Play Store
Install/upgrade Magisk as prompted in the application
Reboot and you're done!!"
After installing the Magisk Manager - when i go to "install" selection and after downloading Magisk v10.2 it says:
Installation error
Zip file placed in ................
Flash it in recovery manually.
Please help me

Magic v11 installation question

Hi, do i need install systemless SuperSU always in twrp before install magisk v11 if I want use new MagiskSU instead??
If I try install Magisk v11 with superSU uninstalled and phone unrooted TWRP give me error and installation fails and if I install superSU and after Magisk v11, Magisk manager say system is using SuperSU instead MagiskSU. How do I install Magisk with MagiskSU??
I have Samsung Galaxy S4 with optimized LineageOS 14.1
Read the pinned Magisk thread...
Unroot again using unSu by osm0sis (Google) before flashing magisk
Installation Instructions
If you're already rooted with MagiskSU, Magisk phh's superuser (not original), or Official Systemless SuperSU
Install/upgrade Magisk Manager from Play Store
Install/upgrade Magisk as prompted in the application
Reboot and you're done!!
If you're not rooted, or something went wrong and you need a clean start
(Recommended) Restore your boot image back to stock
Download the latest Magisk zip file
If you choose to use SuperSU (only support Android 6.0+), first flash SuperSU in systemless mode
Flash Magisk zip
Reboot, and update the stub Magisk Manager to the latest from Play Store

Yeah that button doesn't work for systemless superSU. It doesn't roll back your boot.IMG like it should.
Worst case scenario, flash the stock boot.img and then flash magisk.
Thanks guys, I installed Magisk v11.1 with MagiskSU working, Magisk Hide enabled but I have CTS mismatch error now in Safetynet test. I guess I cant do nothing about this error. Optimized LineageOS 14.1 and Samsung Galaxy S4
EDIT: Finally I passed the Safetynet test (no CTS mismatch error) disabling ADB interface in developer options. Thanks for Magisk, amazing.

By disabling ADB interface, do you mean the USB debugging part? for some reason I am still getting Safetynet error.

What settings are you guys using in Magisk? I have disabled BusyBox, enabled Magisk Hide and systemless hosts. Superuser options are Access to "Apps and ADB" and Automatic Response set to prompt
I'm still having an issue installing Magisk on my phone with RAMROM V10. It gives me an ERROR 1.
It has been suggested that I should re-flash my boot.img with TWRP following the instruction:
Place your BOOT.img on your sdcard
Reboot into TWRP recovery
Tap "Install"
In the bottom right corner tap "Install Image"
Select your BOOT.img
Select the Boot Partition, then swipe to confirm Flash
However, when I follow the step, my TWRP cannot seem to find BOOT.IMG in my SD Card (I know it is there). What did I do wrong? Can anyone help?
i think the .img thingy is only for twrp.img files. You have to use another method to place your boot image like. -> make a backup of only your boot image via twrp backup function. Then duplicate that backup folder of twrp containing only the newly just regernated files, in the twrp folder. Then replace the su-modified boot file there with your original boot file, you obviously have to rename your boot image to fit the right name. (eg. with the logo image -> logo.bin changes to logo.emmc.win -> etc;.) Then use the twrp restore function to restore your "original" boot logo.
Hierarchy folder view would be like:
TWRP->folder 1 (original folder, in case something goes wrong)-> boot file and others
->folder 2 (our modified folder)-> files

FIY: Flashing regular boot.img files works just fine with "Install Image" in TWRP (of course, YMMV, depending on your device).

Magisk installed, "error to extract zip" while installing module/How to Xpost?
I rootet my device by the instruction from @ChinHon with magisk (thanks for that thread btw) and running latest Stock Rom.
I updated magisk to v14 and magisk manager to 5.3.
Now i have the problem that everytime i try to install a module there's a error.
I wanted to install the Xposed module and Viper4Android module.
Both after downloading and installing (looks like i would flash a file via TWRP) while installation process the command line says "unable to extract archive".
How to fix that? and is therr maybe an other way to install Xposed on this phone?

Install zip magisk 14.0 in twrp, works on b610
Later flash xposed systemless 87.3
Reboot
(Phone boots 10 minuts for me)
This error happens when there is no magisk directory on your phone;
i dont remeber the correct name of the directory, so let magisk creates that for u.
Open magisk and click dowwnload (only download zip) from the app (it will create the directory and thendownload magisk.zip).
So u have the directory now, everithing should work
Problem Exists

Updating Magisk to 20.1 fails

i get the message unable to detect target image. I am already rooted with 20.0 installed
I had the same error message. Just download the v20.1 zip file via Magisk and flash it via EXKM or FKM. It worked for me ??
For what it's worth, I clicked on the update link for both the Magisk Manager and Magisk and both updated without an issues. I don't know if this is relevant, but when I originally installed the Patched Magsik Image to get root the first time, I flashed directly to the A and B Partition. (In other words, I flashed it twice) I don't know if this matters but I thought I would mention it.....

Ex kernel manager, and Franco kernel manager. Both in the play store :good:
I'm encountering the same issue. I'd rather not pay for external tools to upgrade. I have a Pixel4 and installed via "Select and patch a file". What's the process for an upgrade in this scenario? Is "Direct Install" supposed to work?

Direct install usually does work. However, if it doesn't, and you don't want to use a kernel manager, then just patch your boot.img and fastboot it to both slots :good:

Unable to open Magisk App

I've flashed recently CSC file and lost the root. I updated MAgisk app up to 25.1 version (not a zip file just apk) but still no root. I have flashed Magisk 25.1.zip file in TWRP recovery. Now the phone is rooted, but I unable to start Magisk app. It just stuck on the start (The Mask). I tried to uninstall Magisk app via Application manager, and reinstall it following by reboot. Still Magisk unable to start. I don't remember whether MAgisk was unhidden before the update and zip installation. What should I do next?
Should I rename the Magisk.apk to uninstall.zip and run this file in TWRP. Then install Magisk apk and install zip file from within Magisk App? If so, what the best way to install MAgisk App; via TWRP or File Manager?
