General What not to do with China ROM - Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

I recently got the phone and i have the China version 12/256. Here are few things to take care:
1) Install Google Keyboard first before debloating system apps using adb.
2) Very Important: First update the phone to latest firmware (12.0.13) before you toggle the OEM Unlocking option in developer settings. If you dont update first and have the option toggled and try to install an OTA update the phone will just bootloop unless you clear the data and sign in with mi account again. This will reset the 168 hours time in the software. So always update the phone to latest update.
3) If you are using google pay, go to nfc settings and change the wallet from Mi Wallet to HCE Wallet.
4) The stock TPU cover is loose on the sides. I dont know if its just mine. But better buy another case from aliexpress.
5) DO NOT install global stock rom through fastboot or mi flash tool. It just wont work because of the different versions(regional) of phone. Only install xiaomi.eu ROM using the guide from a post on xda because the install script knows which version your phone is and installs the appropriate system files.

@ingbrzy can you confirm that? :

It is safe to install. haven't installed it yet but read on forums that it is working.

so I guess
1) unbox your phone
2)update to latest software via settings.
3)factory reset device after that.
3)request bootloader unlock.
4) after 7 days, unlock your bootloader and tooggle that OEM unlock
5)follow instructions on xiaomiEU rom.
is that safe enough? Lmao
PS:
6) Find EDL support near you

My friend doesn’t matter how long it takes to boot up.....as long as you not in fastboot after restart

It seems to be working fine but I need to go outside and test the 5G and 4G signals are still as good as before
It's definitely feels much lighter and smoother
WhatsApp notifications are working properly
There's much less apps in the drawer, Chinese was very bloated , now there's not a Chinese app or character to be found!
Also banking apps are working fine!

Please post the instruction how u did it. With full info

Just downloaded and install it from a Windows laptop
You have to wait 168 hours to unlock it and then open the phone in Chinese language to get to the developer options again before you flash , you need to enable usb debugging again!!!
You will need wi-fi to get back in because there's a security check after unlock, it maybe in Chinese but you will figure it out
I had never used a Xiaomi phone before this one , there are literally no downsides anymore....
I'll update if I can find something that doesn't work

Can you explain the technical reason and the source of the information when you claim that you must update to 12.0.13 before toggling OEM unlock.
I started my unlock last week and I have 12 hours left. 12.0.13 was not out last week. So, obviously I toggled it before that.
Can you explain why 12.0.13 specifically is required before toggling OEM unlock?

Because my phone went into bootloop. I updated to 12.0.10 and then toggled the OEM Unlocking. While i was waiting for 168 hours, i got 12.0.13 OTA update and i tried installing it. Phone restarted 3-4 times and took me to recovery. I then wiped data and it started again with a factory reset. So iam just warning people to get the latest update before doing this. Also, i do own a POCO F2 Pro and i am quite experienced with flashing ROMS. Developers always ask you to update to latest firmware before flashing as the new ROMs are based on latest firmware.
Xiaomi.eu is not a custom AOSP ROM but just a word of caution.

Sounds like after OTA 12.0.13 phone should be a factory reset it

I toggled mine on and off a few times yesterday waiting for update 12.0.13 when I was on 12.0.10

Probably you bought it in a china store, so your phone come with a fake rom.
First of all you need to enter intesting mode to install unsigned drivers on windows and to make your phone recognizable for the pc.
Download the MiFlash Tool, install it and then go to X:\XiaoMi\XiaoMiFlash, open XiaoMiFlash.exe, if the driver pop up dont show up, you can click on driver section and press install, now you're ready to unlock.
If you've a xiaomi account and have the password of it, you can ask to xiaomi permission to unlock bootloader and flash the latest stable version of MIUI, you can download the unlock utility in the next step after login, the steps are very simple, when you've the confirmation of bootloader unlock open the unlock application, follow the steps and wait till it finish, when the phone reboot, you're ready to flash.
Now download the ROM in en miui website
1) Extract the folder inside the rom file you downloaded before
2)Open MiFlashTool
3)Target the path to ~\rolex_global_images_V10.2.1.0.NCCMIXM_20190110.0000.00_7.1_global
4)Turn off the mobile and enter in fastboot (are the same steps you did before to unlock)
5)Click on refresh button and it should show the phone ID
6)Mark the "clean all" option at the bottom, if you want more secure phone, check the clean all and block/lock (I can't remember ), if you leave it unlock, you'll have the posibility of flash custom recovery/roms or whatever when needed, but is also strong recomendable to leave unlock because you can unbrick the phone in a easy way.
7)Click Flash and wait till is done, the phone will reboot by it self when it end.
The first boot can take a lot of time, if the phone shows that is locked and you can turn on wifi to enter in the xaomi account because it don't show the keboard, you can do the trick by the usage of a SIM card without PIN code to get carrier internet.
Hope it works for you, if you dont understand anything feel free to ask.
*Some times you can have problems with fastboot even if you install the driver properly, the easy way to fix this is go to device admin, right click properties>driver>update driver, search driver manual, select from list look for android click and select bootloader composite, click next and when it finish it will show up as recognize.
Have nice day.

Accidentally Locked the bootloader with the custom rom installed

So I installed a custom rom in my new k20 pro lately, and accidentally locked the device after installed the custom rom inside. Now, my device is refusing to open the new rom and stuck in redmi recovery mode. It said that "this MIUI version cant be installed on this device". I tried to unlock the phone again, but xiaomi said that it takes at least 30 days to unlock a new device. Im kinda sad and confused about this, please help.

Did you try to flash custom rom using miflash?
Hi! I have the same issue on my Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro (It was Chinese) but it came unlocked with xiaomi.eu rom.
After i installed a global rom, and google wallet nfc pay did not work, so i thought okay i will lock it then so maybe wallet would accept it, (with the eu rom it worked before) so i put the device in fastboot and used fastboot oem lock on cmd...
And from then it stucks on miui recovery 5.0 screen, and says, this miui version can't be installed on this device...
I might not enabled oem unlocking before i shut if off, but i added it to my mi account so i dont know if after a week i can maybe unlock it. But i think the other possible solution would be to sideload the original chinese stock rom, which is for M2102K1AC, Mi 11 pro, codename mars, but i couldn't find it anywhere... If someone can upload a link to it, that would be a huge help! Or any idea! thx!

HI! i got a mi 11 pro 1 year ago, and it was offically chinese, but it came unlocked with Xiaomi.eu firmware, but i could't update it via the updater app, so i searched and found the global star version and just flashed it, everything worked, only now google pay nfc didnt work, it said that its probably because of the unlocked bootloader, so i got to fastboot and in cmd i sent fastboot oem lock, and since then my phone is stuck in miui recovery 5.0 screen and says that i cannot run this firmware on the device, i tried to unlock it but failed, maybe after a week, but i think that i didnt turn on oem unlocking on the phone itself before this... So im just hoping that after a week unlocking could be done... Or my other idea is, that i could install the original chinese rom with sideload, because i managed to install another global version on it since, but the result is still the same, the only problem is that i cannot find literally anywhere a mars codenamed firmware...

Anyone who might have the same situation, i found a simple, but effective solution, not sure if it works on every xiaomi device, but i will write down the steps here:
You need to use XiaomiADB, here is the download link and the description for how to use it -> https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-use-xiaomiadb-8044/ (if the page is not available, then feel free to msg me!)
For xiaomi adb, you need to go to 3rd option on the miui recovery screen, NOT THE FASTBOOT
So basically i went through the steps to “xiaomiadb sideload_miui <filename>”
And I tried to install a rom, BUT IT DIDNT ACCEPT IT!
The message was:
ERROR: This rom cannot be installed, server code -> 2001, server message -> Can't install unofficial rom
after trying 4 times all the same and: Installation of this rom via stock recovery is not allowed by Xiaomi
Says Installation failed, and then i just decided to download another rom so i PLUGGED OUT THE PHONE right after this, and went to another room to connect to wired network, to download and try a different rom... when i came back, to all my surprise, the phone was turned on, so i went to the setting dev ops and enabled bootloader unlocking, linked it to my account enabled adb and everything that is needed to flash another rom later, so then i rebooted and again, miui recovery 5.0 screen, but now i enabled unlocking, so i put the phone in fastboot, and tried MI UNLOCKER TOOL again, now it says: Please unlock 168 hours later. And do not add your account in MIUI again, otherwise you will wait from scratch.
So that means, after 7 days i wll be able to unlock it, until then, i can turn it on with the above method, in short try to sideload (copy and install) a rom to it, and then after it failed, plug it out and just wait like 10-20 maybe 30 seconds and bam your device is normally booted... I hope it helps to some of you, (i have been searching for the solution for almost a week, my other option was to pay someone who can MAYBE do it or send the phone back to china and pay the repairs, so im really happy with this method! If it helps to you, please reply so i and the others will know that it worked! Have a nice day!

Unlock Xiaomi redmi 9

Hello, in need of some help.
I am having a great deal of difficulty in unlocking the bootloader on my Xiaomi redmi 9. I've completed all of the steps that Xiaomi ask customers to do and that any expert I've seen on YouTube doing. But after two weeks I still can't even get to the dreaded wait two weeks to unlock stage, if I could then I'd be a happy man!
I've got developer options sorted, turned on oem and debugging, linked my account to the mi unlock in developer settings, device found and on. Also updated drivers on my windows 10 laptop, signed in to my account on the mi unlock program, set phone in fastboot and then the unlock program verifies my device, but at 100% it keeps on giving me the same response ( please add your account in miui's settings-developer options-mi unlock status) which is crazy because I've completed all of the required steps and then some more steps to try and get past this can't unlock message. Also tried older versions of the unlock tool, but no luck.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, or a direction to go in to help me unlock the phone. I've contacted mi customer service for help, but they keep sending me the steps that I should follow to get unlock status and I've tried this a thousand times!
Bootloader unlocking guid/ Binding Account
First signout mi account,
Then reboot phone,
Then open developer option and click on
mi unlocked status
Then add your account here,
Now it's successfully binded
Then rest of the process do with laptop or computer
Hi, thanks for responding. I've just tried that and unfortunately it's the same outcome, 'couldn't unlock'
are you using Redmi 9 with NFC version ?

yes its version problem, there was a lot of people reporting can't unlock bootloader for redmi 9 NFC version
for more detail maybe you can check post in this here with title 'Redmi 9 Root'
Thanks for the help. So I've bought a phone to root and it looks like I've bought the only one in the world that you can't even unlock the bootloader on ??*. I wondered why I couldn't find any more information. The phone is still under a month old, I might see if I can return it, ffs!
same here was happy about the price 101€ only but now i will return it too... i don´t want to have a phone without root

I had the same problem as you described.
Today, I did log off my MUI account from the phone settings and logged in again.
I started "mi unlock status" under development settings and added my phone.
Booted into fastmode and started the mi unlock program and got the message "please wait 168 hours ..."
In the past, I did always receive the message "add your account in mi unlock status"
I'm not sure, what did the trick:
logoff and login or just had to wait, that xiaomi fixed their unlock process.
Hopefully, I will get the phone unlocked in a week.
*fingers crossed*
I received information from the technical support that only one phone number must be active on the smartphone, the one assigned to the account. Secondly, if it still does not work, try several times until it shows the time to unlock.
It worked for me.
successfull unlock

Hello, thanks for your info on the 168 hrs wait. I went back on and tried again and got the 168 hrs wait too. I messed it up the first week and must have signed out, so I had to wait another week. Anyway unlocked now, but I'm having just as much of a problem trying to flash twrp to my phone. In command prompt every downloaded file I've tried and used won't recognise the prompts, can't get past the prompt fastboot devices or ADB devices! So can't find my phone to enable flashing twrp across and in turn I can't root my phone! It's driving me nuts.
Usb debugging on
Ptp selected
Windows drivers find my phone
But still having problems when trying to use command prompt in platform tools ?

How can I lock it again ?
i have waited 168 hrs now its telling to wait 168 hr again...what can i do
the answer is,you have to wait,or contact xiaomi, lol.

Question Boot loader unlock help

Good day to you all
I have recently bought myself this lovely device, unfortunately mine came as a single sim model from my network provider.
I have tried following the guide for unlocking in the "How to" section, but I fail to get passed the point where one must check the Mi-Unlock status of the device.
If anybody can help me with this I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance
This Is the result i get from the unlock tool
Ok so I have found my problem.
I worked out that Find Device setting was enabled and was blocking the Unlock procedure.
I disabled it and tried unlocking again. This time I got the wait 168 hours to try again message.
Progress!!!
I hope this can help somebody else that is having the same issue
Can you tell me the steps you used in unlocking your note 10 pro bootloader ,I still don't understand how to do it well
Disable Find my Phone, Enable developer options, enable OEM unlock and Check MiUnlock status in developer options.
Download MiUnlock tool from Xiaomi website, do not use 3rd part website. Install it onto any pc and check for updates. You will need a Mi Account for this. Use these same credentials to log into the Mi Account on the device before the next step.
Enable USB debugging in developer options and reboot to bootloader. Connect the phone to the pc and start MiUnlock tool. Follow the prompts till the unlock process fails. The tool will give you a message to wait 168 hours before trying again. Do not reboot your phone during this time. This is 7 days wait. Use this time to back up your phone and save any data you need from the phone.
This is where I have got up to so far. Another 6 days to go.

Hello, I recently got this amazing phone and was thinking about unlocking the bootloader and flashing Magisk.
How do I find out my remaining time left for unlocking the bootloader? I feel like I could unlock right now because I could bind my account to my phone straight away, although I might be just dumb and it gets binded immediately. Thanks.
Xiaomi tool.
USB debugging enabled
Accounts: add a MiAccount.
Disable Find My device * very important* otherwise bootloader unlock is blocked.
It takes 7 days. Do not reboot or power down the device for this time. Unlocking is done twice. 1 to start the countdown and 2nd to complete the unlock.
Search the forum for instructions on unlock process.
You can check your unlock status in developer options. If prompted use your MiAccount credentials.

Question bootloader unlock, account not authorised

Hi a while ago i unlocked my boot loader and after a long time not using the phone i locked the boot loader,,im trying to unlocvk again using same account andit keeps saying account not authorised. even though im using same account.??
i also logged into mi website to post there and as soon a click post it says banned from posting??
is there anything right about xiaomi that just works??
How do i get over this hurdle of unlocking boot loader again?
Regards
I guess You have to apply again for unlock with MiFlash_Unlock tool and wait 168 hours. If this account is bugged you can try a new account. As far as i know this is the only method to unlock bootloader on xiaomi phones.
so i deleted account and recreated new account with same number now it says please add your account to miui settings > developer settings >mi unlock status...which i have done and it says successfully added but every time i go to unlock keeps saying the same above thing to add to your account....
Are you using latest version Mi Unlock ?

That's a strange issue. I've never had problems unlocking the bootloader of my Xiaomi phones.
Try remove your Mi account (in settings) , reboot , then log in again . Then add back the account in developer setting.
And try run as administrator option , when opening Mi unlock app.

Tried that too and reinstalled the rom from scratch. Still same issue. I have a feeling it’s my old number and email associated to that account that might be causing the issue as it’s been used before to unlock boot loader? but tomorrow new email new number. Let’s see. Will update.
Regards.
If you have deleted the old account before creating a new one it should not cause a problem. But yeah delete all accounts connected to this phone number and make a new account with a different email. Good luck buddy! Tell us what happened after that
so made new account with gmail and new number and followed these steps and downloaded unlock tool from here and it all worked finally, now it says wait 168 hours
downloaded unlock tool from https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html
and updated it,
followed these instructions and used us as region when creating account but used uk number
one thing i did was make an account via email first on the website and set region to us, once account was created i logged in at the website and added recovery number through there, then logged in to xiaomi account oh phone and it showed up.
Make a Mi account through Google and set the region to US - it's important to set the region to US... EU gave me the rebind error
Add the Mi account to your phone (settings -> Mi Account)
Set the recovery phone on your Mi account and verify the phone number.
Make sure you have OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging enabled
Go to Mi Unlock status -> add account (make sure you're on data)
In your PC download the latest Mi Unlock Tool (click on the gear icon and check for updates + download if there are any)
In the same gear menu check for USB Drivers and install them
Log into the same Mi account in the Unlock tool
Enter Fastboot on your phone
Unlock (it may prompt you to wait 168 hours, but after that you should be able to unlock)
patiently awaiting now
Regards

Well I was this close to selling the thing if this last step didn’t work. But now will install eu rom as that’s what I had before and it worked good.
Only reason I changed to iPhone was it worked better with my Audi as the direction part on google maps on android auto took up quite a fair bit of the screen which was annoying.
Still does but worked out how to change it from the right side of the screen to the left which is a tad better I guess.

Hi Guys
a little update
as I am waiting for the days to countdown to unlock bootloader, I decided to go to work on the current miui14 Chinese rom, I deleted all the installed Chinese apps all the bloatware completely, activated google play services, installed play store, installed all my current apps, duplicated this phone and the home screen layout exactly to my iPhone set up, logged into my cards and banking apps without any issues, installed vanced YouTube and premium Spotify and as well as a couple no longer available apps.. set everything to English, deleted baidu and mifly keyboard installed google keyboard, and its exactly like how I would have it as if the boot loader was unlocked with a eu.rom.
now if I can get all this without unlocking bootloader all through a Chinese rom, why would i want to go through the headache of unlocking the bootloader to install a eu rom which is based on this very Chinese rom I believe?
can anyone suggest any reasons as to why anyone would go through the bootloader headache, unless I forgot something that i do that i haven't done via this route that might pop to mind later.
Regards

I didnt like the Chinese rom because:
1)the search engine (when you swipe up on home screen) is chinese and u cant change it.
2)"Ok Google" voice command was not working (or was buggy) if i remember correctly.
3) There were some other things that were coming up in chinese but i dont remember exactly what.
4) Many apps were not working in the background and i was not receiving notifications even when i locked those apps, put them on "no restriction" and enabled "auto start".
5) I saw many good bonus features that the EliteRom has (gets updates every 1 or 2 weeks, based on xiaomi.eu weekly) and decided to try it. So far i really like it!
But if you are okay with the Chinese ROM, u can stick with it
Hello guys. I maybe have the same problem.
I add my account to miui unlock in developer options and it saya, successful. But when I'm trying to unlock it crashes in 99% saying u have to add my account... Tried over 20 times adding, re adding, format, etc but nothing...

Make sure you use the app provided in link in my original post as after using a new email and new number I downloaded the unlock app from that link as the one I was using before had a different layout and kept giving that darn issue.
