Question New 512gb micro sd card ''issue with card'' and needs to be formatted after inserting, does not happen on Galaxy S8+ - Redmi Note 10 Pro

I recently bought a San Disk 512gb micro sd and while it works perfectly fine since I've inserted it I wanted to transfer files without my phone being plugged to the pc so I dismounted the card and directly transferred files from the pc. After finishing up I inserted it back but to my dismay it I get the error message ''Issue with SanDisk SD card'' and wants to format it. The card was with the stock exfat format when it arrived and worked fine. I plugged the card back to the pc, did the windows repair and it couldn't find anything defective. I inserted the card back and it still didn't work. I then tried it on my S8+ and it works flawlessly there. And for some reason after inserting it back to the Note 10 pro it was suddenly working and I thought this problem might be gone but today I was not able to put some files via usb connection to my phone for some reason and did it again directly over the micro sd card and inserting it back the same issue occurs, only on the Redmi note 10 pro. No issues at all with the S8+. But this time I couldn't get it working on the Note 10 pro. I then reformatted it via I also tried a 64gb micro sd in both phones and that seems to works fine, no issues. I then used ''MiniTool Partition Wizard'' on my pc to format the micro sd and in my first test it seems to work in the Note 10 pro but after transferring my files back the issue occurs again and it does not work. Any idea what to do? I'm very annoyed with this and this issue is driving me mad and steals a lot of time.
Now I'm trying it for the last time, directly formatted it via the phone as a media storage, safely ejected it and started the copy process which will take a couple of hours (200gb). Is there anything I should know? This feels like a issue with the software/phone.
Edit:
Yep, this is a bug in the Note 10 pro (maybe only with bigger cards?) and you can circumvent in by renaming specific folders which causes conflicts if you try to mount your sd card.
I'm not sure if all these 4 cause this but when I've renamed every folder and the sd card mounted successfully.
The new 4 folders created (Pictures, Music, Movies, Android) might caused some kind of conflict for whatever reason. I think the issue is with the music folder, its the only folder of these specific ones I had filled with a lot of data, I already deleted the Android folder in a previous attempt but did not guess any other could cause such a major issue with mounting. Weird, but man I'm glad this is over.
Edit: Does not seem to work after a update again and this time renaming/deleting those folders does not do the trick. Now I'm stuck again without a way to fix this, any Samsung device my family members have have no issues mounting the card except my Redmi Note 10 pro. This is a massive problem for anyone using a big exfat micro sd card.

I had this same issue and it was not ROM dependent. I have a 1TB MicroSD card from Sandisk. It would normally go from wanting me to format to eventually not asking and would pop up from time to time. It stopped when I switched to EliteROM. But as stated, it is random. I don't know why it happens. But once it shows up eventually, I delete every folder it created and leave my defaults. Don't format it. It will just do the same and you would have lost time and files for nothing.
In a nutshell, it is just a bug that goes away on its own.

SD card failure (Poll)

I noticed that like me some other people have problems with the kaiser not reading a micro SD card.
I have a 8 GB Sandisk Micro SD card and a T-Mobile MDA (with the original firmware)
A couple of days ago my Kaiser could read the memory card. Task manager (PPC) said it was not installed (something like that, I have a Dutch firmware). I had all the files on my PC so I formatted the SD card and tried again. No go..
some time later I repeated the process and it worked, for over an hour or so. (WMP was transferring some music when I got a notification that there was problem.)
I tried to use the original 1 GB SD card, didn't work.
Next I tried a hard reset. Again, a no go..
So.. I think the problem is in the hardware [Peran is wondering what the status is on those promised hardware acceleration drivers..]
been using 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, and 6gb ones...havnet had a problem...havent tried 8gb tho
6GB + 8GB working with it for the last 6/7 moths. And did not have any problems.
At the risk of sounding rude...
What is the point of having a poll on this? you got a bad card ...we see that.We have read your other post.
there isn't really a point.. Just me knowing that I am about the only one with the problem.
On topic; yesterday evening I tried it again and.. the problem is gone..
Has anybody any ideas what I did wrong? ... it seems to be me that is doing something wrong.
Still no problems..
are you going to retract your vote?
I dont know. I hate things like this happening..
Still no problems..
Offtopic, does XDA forums 'close topics'?
I have similar problem. 6gb card been working for months.
Suddenly the HTC can't see it.
Can still see it on PC.
Reformated it, etc and still no luck.
i had this, it turned out to be some exe files which were corrupt, and were screwing up the PDA.
As soon as i removed these, access to the card speed wise, was also greatly increased. Seemed to be the icons for the exe files failed to load, and hung the PDA.
I doubt its the card thats failed, more than likely, the drivers.
i formatted the memory card and hard reset my tytn. there are no files on the memory card...
Im having the same problem again...

I have the same problem.. My Kaiser stopped reading my sd card..
What exe files did you erase? How did you find the files that were currupted?
Thanks
Mine didn't work on/off for a while after I dropped my Kaiser...but i put it back in and stuff and it has worked for about a month since.
I just got my tilt today. And I threw my 1gb Lexar in and it won't recognize, and my pc won't recognize it either.
My tytn2 is running HTC official rom(WM6.1).
I'm currently using a Sandisk 8GB MicroSD card without any issues for a couple of months now.
Run fsck on the card... If that comes up clean, there's a problem. Otherwise, the Kaiser (WM?) is just very picky.
used a 1 GB Sandisk in the past, upgraded to 4 GB Sandisk..no problems with either one...
having problems with mine right now.
The other day while driving tomtom displayed a message about my accessing my map settings.
I closed tomtom and started it again as i'd had problems in the past with my BA not reading from the card. no maps found!!??? I checked with file explorer card was there but no files on my card. I checked with resco file explorer still no files.
When i got home i checked through active sync, and tried a few restarts, same again so i thought it may be the phone, only had it a week.
I tried the card in my card reader ...strange... 3 gig was being used but no files on card.
Formated the card put everything back aarrgggghhhh!
Today go to put speed cameras back on card and all files on the card have strange names with blocks in.
I unplugged the usb ready to format, again. Rebooted the phone pluged in the usb all files back to normal.
God that seemed like an essay!!
I have had the same thing happen several times. Most of the files on my card have disappeared and I know they are still there. I have found 2 causes.
Sometimes I disconnect the sync cable with out closing folders. Especially when I have been installing things directly to the card. My card will only show a few files but when I connect it back to the computer it will fix itself. The files suddenly reappear.
The second cause took me a while to figure out. I use a motorokr in the car to listen to my music while I drive. Sometimes I shut off the power without stopping wmp. Again the card will show no files. I knew they must still be there but connecting to the computer didn't help. I decided to update my wmp library and suddenly everything was back. Hope this helps someone!

SD Card Corruption with Nexus One (has happened twice)

Twice in the last two months my 16 GB Class 6 AData microSDHC memory card has popped up as being "corrupt" and needed reformatting after powering back up from reboot on my Nexus One.
The first time happened on CM 5.0.3.1, the second time was with CM 5.0.4.1 with the UV kernel. Both times, data could not be read either through the N1, my old G1, or my friend's Droid. Thus a reformat was required and data loss ensued.
Anyone else experiencing occasional data corruption on their SD card? Another friend had it happen to his G1 with an 8 GB microSDHC memory card recently, running the latest CM for the G1, also on reboot and battery swap.
Is there a common thread here? Could it be HTC hardware-related? CM software-related? Just coincidentally two bad memory cards? Me using chinese replacement batteries when swapping out? The UV kernel? Not trying to point fingers or throw stones, just trying to get to the bottom of this...just lost some great pics of a recent vacation I just got back from. Suggestions or hints are welcome!
TIA!
this has happened to me a few times but I was still able to get my data through amon-ra recovery. I think it have something to do with an improper dismount of the card.
I'm curious, what brand of memory were your friends using?
I actually had this happen when my n1 was still stock (16gb class6 card)
I put the sd card in a card reader on my pc, everything was intact so I backed it up, reformatted and still had the n1 report it was corrupt. I ended up having to shut down, remove card, boot up w/o a sd card in, then with the sd card back in I never had the problem again
I know I did a full format the very first time, that 2nd time I had done a quick format. I've done a format recently also via amonra for ext partition and still no problems.
I happend to me few weeks ago. After turned it on ... I couldn't do anything because the screen was black and any key or type of touch was useful ... so I removed the battery and at the next start the SD wasn't readable anymore!
sry 4 my bad english!
erikikaz:
i'm running a 16 GD Class 6 AData memcard in my N1, my friend is running an 8 GB class 6 SanDisk memcard in his G1. Neither of us is running Apps2SD or anything weird.
glad to see i'm not the only one with this issue. was gonna buy a new 16 GB card but saw an article yesterday that sandisk is coming out with a 32 GB class 6 sdhc card in a month so i'll just wait for that one.
Same here
Same thing has happened three times on my Sandisk 16gb. I am running stock everything on nexus..nothing funky app wise.
After the first time it happened I replaced the sd card. It still happens. I have never been able to fix the card other than reformating. Chkdsk /f on win7 gets to 98% then throws an i/o error.
There is something majorly wrong. It seems that it happens in all android phones from time to time not just the nexus one. The consensus online seems to be that it is a mount/dismount issue that corrupts the card. I never mounted or dismounted the card at all with PC and it still happens so not sure what else it could be.
Do you think it is a phone hardware issue that would resolve with a new handset?
Has this ever happened to anybody using the standard 4GB card?
Where did you purchase your micro SD cards? There are a lot of fake/faulty cards being sold. I bought a fake one (unknowingly, obviously) and it kept getting corrupted until I tested it properly using h2testw.
I have the same problem on my nexus! I use an LG 16GB Card and CyanogenMod-5.0.5.3-N1! Any way of recovering the data without amon-ra?

+1 Make sure you dismount from computer first...otherwise this problem will pop up again...and may not be correctable next time. (There's a reason why the phone asks you to properly dismount from computer first)
no **** my n1 has the error message damaged sd card. restarted the phone a couple times and same message. what should i do? i see peoples solutions on this thread but idk where to start. i have a rooted n1 running cyan 5053 with apps2sd
I have had this problem a couple of times too, the latest being this morning
I have a stock N1 with a 16GB Sandisk card. The first time this happened, i went to use the camera and it said insert SD card, even though there was one there, I rebooted the phone and then got the Damaged SD card message.
This morning I was on the train, had been using the phone to read the news earlier with no problems, I got it out of my pocket and screen was black. and the phone completely unresponsive. Removed and replaced battery, booted up and got the Damaged sd card message again.
Both times I have been able to recover most of my files by putting the card in a PC, the first time I found that a couple of my photos were corrupted and unrecoverable, indicating that possibly it was the camera app that may have caused the issue the first time.
This time though, I found that some of my music tracks were corrupted along with one of my videos, and also a directory on the SD called LOST.DIR. Everything else was fine.
Not sure why only these files were affected, as I was not listening to music or watching any videos, so I dont see why the nexus one should have been accessing those parts of the card when it corrupted.
I could not delete the corrupted files, even on my PC, accessing them causes the PC to lock up. The only way to get card working again seems to be a format.
If only the format would work!
Regards,
Roman
Just happened to me as well. Genuine 8gb Sandisk, class 4.
After a reboot Nexus reports corrupted card. It really seems corrupted, I'm unable to read it in a PC or anything else:
[ 1042.673542] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
[ 1042.673551] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Sense Key : Medium Error [current]
[ 1042.673561] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Add. Sense: Unrecovered read error
[ 1042.673571] end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 10248
I'm using CM 5.0.4.1 with UV kernel.
It's happened to me, even using the "safely remove hardware" function on the pc. i started just using the unmount on the phone which seemed less problematic.
Yep...add me to the list. Running stock N1 was playing music when it ocurred it started skipping through the tracks fast right before it stopped. It has affected/removed all my pics and left the music.
I'm with you all:
2 times on my Motorola Milestone, using a 16GB class 4 "unbranded" card
3 times on my Nexus, using that same 16GB class 4 card.
2 times on my Nexus, with a 16GB class 6 SanDisk card.
Most times, the data has been available by mounting the card into a PC or Mac directly, though my Mac has seen the card as "read-only" in these cases.
I seem to have this problem after mounting the card onto my work PC, though I don't often do that. I mostly use ADB to copy files. Maybe it is linked to leaving the debugging interface up all the time? I do that and I'm sure that most of you do as well...
Me too
I am using FRF91 MRCr21 and I am on a 800mv 070810 .35 rc4 kernel. Newest 5.00.08.04 radio.
Twice now after using quickboot my phone has reported my SD card damaged and it says I will have to reformat. It is a 8gb class 2 sandisk, real. One time I used quickboot to enter recovery mode and the other was only to reboot the phone. Has anyone else had this problem? What is the best fix? Both times I rebooted my phone was stable. I wasn't downloading or installing anything. Thanks!
My phone can't read the card. If I pull the card and put it directly in my computer it won't read either. Both OS can't read the file system and want me to reformat.
Neither happened due to not dismounting. Anyone correlate the problem with quickboot?
have had zero luck with adata 16GB classs 6 cards. i have gone through 2 of them however their 8 GB card has been awesome
Just had this with a Sandisk 16GB Class 2 card. Inserted into card reader, copied something, popped it back into the phone, corrupt card message. Even the computer says I have to format it.

[Q] SDcard getting corrupt

Hi,
My first post here, so hello to all forum users.
When I tried to copy/paste a file (~50MB) from my PC to External SD card on my Galaxy S,
it froze, then shut off - couldn't restart it unless I removed battery for a few seconds.
Sometimes it will seemingly copy/paste files ok, but then the files turn out to be corrupted.
The card (SanDisk 8GB class 2) was Ok at first, and I had copied some files to it without problem, but after a couple of days I noticed some file names were corrupted.
Are there any known problems regarding SDcards getting corrupted with the SGS?
Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems?
Thanks
yes - although my issue was that files would disappear after a short while.
i isolated the problem to my windows 7 OS running on an old Acer.
copying files via linux solves the problem. my brother's asus can write files to the sd card perfectly using windows 7
wierd really
Had a similar problem until I replaced my USB extention cable, The extension cable was USB1 not USB2, got a USB2 extension cable and its fine now even connects to Keis 1st time everytime.
It happened twice to me within 3 days:
first time while synching with media player.
The second: while bluetooth paired, in copilot gps, a call came.
I went to anwser on bluetooth, no respond.
then tried with the phone. It froze.
Then I had to shut down manually (I tried holding the butthon to choose shutdown but everything was frozen).
Then the SD card shows as corrupt.
can't unmount and can't format through the settings.
Got to do it from the top drop down menu. Then choose the sdcard and it asked if I wanted to format.
I've experienced this as well twice already. First is after uninstalling nDrive which is installed on my external SDcard. Second is when i'm trying to copy files from my external SDcard to my pc. I was trying to access the internal SDcard at the same time while i'm copying the files from external SDcard then suddently my galaxy s MTP gave me a force close message. Then it froze and i have no choice but to press power button until it restarts. After restart my phone told me that my external SDcard is corrupted and needs to be formatted. Can't unmount it either so have to do the formatting via the notification area. Really annoying as my phone is less than 2 weeks old. I have this bad feeling that there is a hardware and software problem with my phone! I don't want to send it back yet as it would take ages before i get it again!
This is happening to me as well! The only quickfix was to copy manually without using my galaxy to copy them (just used a sd card reader).
Is this a widespread issue? Any fixes?
BUMP, anyone?

[Q] SD card not formatting?

I have Sandisk Ultra Micro SD 64GB class 10 memory..i've used it for an year took it to my friends house to get some movies...we were transferring data using data cable it was taking too long so we plugged it out. I came home but the file he gave me wasn't getting deleted..i've used root explorer and many other apps but it didn't work then I've tried it with my pc but it didn't work either. Now when I put something in the card it won't show on my phone..just the old files. So I thought I'd just format it. (it was formatted with guiformat (fat32) when i first got it) first I tried it with my phone it didn't work then I tried it with guiformat it formats the card but when go inside the card everything is till there then I tried with Easeus Partition master...it didn't work either. I don't know what do to now..anyone got any idea??
See Sandisk forum or google search .
Probably defective .

SD card no longer recognized after Oreo update

SM950UI (unlocked), Android 8.0.0 Android security patch July 1, 2018.
My 256Gb external SD card worked just fine before Oreo update. Recently, I received a message that the card was corrupted, and that I should reformat it, which I attempted to do on the phone, without success (kept telling me to reformat it). Shut down phone, removed SD card, attached it to PC, which also claimed it was corrupted. Formatted it again on the PC. Re-inserted into phone and powered up. It re-appeared as storage, and so I moved some programs over to it. A few days later, I noticed the apps/programs that I moved over to it were missing and checked the storage on the phone. Now it shows no existence of the SD card, corrupted or not. It's just "disappeared". The card is a Samsung one, but can't remember where I bought it (Amazon vs Ebay vs Samsung, but the last unlikely).
Any suggestions, please?
Thanks
I am having this same problem on my galaxy tab s3. Card is a 128gb Samsung brand. It worked perfectly till the update to 8.1 oreo.
Has anyone discovered the cause and a solution?
Kind Regards,
Jack
In my experience, this sd problem háppens from time to time, since I began using these cards some of them have failed in various circumstances, sometimes just ejecting and reinserting them is all it takes, well, I dont know, I have learned to accept that, in the end,, when a card fails,, it is just bad luck
Last month I just testing my 128GB sandisk to my friend's S9 plus and it went dark. No SD card detected. I don't know why or how it got damage. Never had issue with microsd, ever.
People seem to get this corrupted card message when they have a habit of just removing them without first doing the unmount sd card thing first
fd up my card with loads of important data by putting it in my note 8 too lol
I'll say that since maybe September, my Note 8 has had a lot more instances of the SD Card not showing up after a reboot. Sometimes it takes 2-3 reboots to get it to show up.
I haven't had any issues of corruption, just outright failure of the phone/os recognizing the device.
