[Q] Transfer WhatsApp Backup from old phone ? - Huawei Mate 40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
For now I use WhatsApp with Gspace but I want to use it directly on Emui.
But for know I didn't find clear instructions to do it.
Can someone can explain this?
Cheers!

If you have an old Huawei device, with GMS, you can save backup on Huawei ID.
From Gspace I don't know how you can do that ...

Hey, did anyone tried this method ? For me i'm stuck at looking for backup screen after registration

It is my easy, in your old mobile you enter WhatsApp and in chats you select backup never, you give it to copy, you go to the file explorer and look for the WhatsApp folder, the copies and pastes it on a pendrive otg, that folder you paste in the root of the internal memory of the mate 40 pro, you install WhatsApp, follow the steps and you will get the copy

Helium (formerly Carbon) - Backup/Restore

Hi folks,
I've done a fair bit of searching and although it has been briefly discussed before I can't see any recent mentions about Helium (aka Carbon) from clockworkmod (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en).
The Google Play store page for the app mentions that the app doesn't work on the Xperia S and Z due to some changes Sony made, however when I first got my Xperia Z (at launch in the UK), I was able to backup app data (and some apks) from my Galaxy S3 and restore them onto the Xperia Z without any issues.
Given there have been a few software updates from Sony since launch, does anyone have any recent experience with Helium, specifically whether it works correctly to backup and restore to the Xperia Z? I couldn't find a suitable thread or forum to try to ask the developer directly what the specific issues were with the Xperia S and Z that led to the warning on the app page.
I had a problem restoring Apps with this app after full factory reset. It always crashed. Tried to restore from SD card and CLOUD. on my galaxy s3 it works fine. The build in sony's backup and restore app is doing great.

Thanks for the reply. What does the Sony app actually backup? Does it include some/all apks and the actual app data too (e.g game progress)?
Yes, it includ app+data, even clock alarms

So........
I decided to unlock and root my phone. So I did some backups with mybackup pro and decided to give a try to helium (because I never managed to restore the data of the apps with mybackup pro, just with root). I did the backup, saved it on the internal storage, copied it on my computer, unlocked my phone, rooted it, installed helium, copied the backup to the internal storage and... when i try to restore the backup from the internal storage it doesn't find it... I am now trying to reinstall it, don't give it su and see if I see the backup... if I don't see it... well.. idk what to say... I do a backup and then I cannot restore it? nice (sarcastic)
Edit: no.. I cannot find the backup

yes same problem here, it seems the devs of this app are idiots
I started using this for the first time last week. Now I'm making a new backup and it is asking me to connect my phone to the computer again. do I need this each time I create a backup to my external sd card?

If you're still interested.. (if u want the app data. i.e : savegames) I found a way.. Just keep those backup files in your computer. And then download the apps you want to restore.. Then make backups of them again.. Then they will have those backup up files in the "Carbon" folder. Then copy the folders inside without the "nomedia" file. It then the app will show the backup & viola... Apps restored...

Is there something weird about the way messages are stored in general? Everything else seemed to work - the one thing I can't seem to figure out is how to restore text messages (com.android.providers.telephony.ab) - I've tried to do it as a whole app using the PC interface, tried copying the folder as a replacement via Android File Transfer to the 'carbon' folder, etc.
When I try to restore via helium server, it quickly shows me everything as restored but I don't see the messages. When I try to do it manually (e.g. force copy), I don't see an option under "Restore and Sync" to actually select messaging.
Am I missing something stupid / obvious? The raw data seems to be there (for example, call logs were uploaded just fine, text messages seem to have an issue).

So I came up with a solution based on what works for others. Why this works when it didn't previously is beyond me, but hopefully someone else can use it if individual parts of their Helium backup don't work properly (in theory it should work for any app / SQL dataset). The whole point of Helium is that we're running non-rooted phones and so Titanium Backup or the like aren't applicable. For reference, I'm running an N4 to OSX 10.7.x
1. Use the Helium Server to create a full backup.
2. Wipe phone or whatever you need to do (I had to do a factory reset for Google since it's an N4 and my proximity sensor is dead).
3. Install the apps you had previously via Play Store (pain in the a**).
4. Run Helium server and upload the backup data.
5. Update apps as needed (should be auto but who knows for individual stuff).
6. Check app data in apps. Texts are obviously easy to see for me. Hopefully everything restored nicely for you here.
***Now for the bit for people who got corrupted restores.
7. Unzip the backup file on your computer, select the .ab files that correspond to the missing / corrupted restores and then zip those into a new file on your computer (for step 9). Keep these files handy in unzipped form as well for step 10.
8. Perform a new Helium backup of those sections onto the internal SD card (yes it will be blank, worry not).
9. (Optional step): Run Helium server and upload that new zip file (with the stuff that didn't make it) alone. Try restore. Unlikely to work but worth a shot.
10. Running Android File Transfer, find the SD card, find the folder 'carbon' and then find the corresponding sub-folders that have the modules that were corrupted. Replace the SD card backups of the broken modules with the good ones from your computer.
11. Run Helium restore again, but only for the sections you want (I swear, for me Messaging didn't show up the first few times but after step 10 it did).
12. Wait, hoepfully it works well. I would reboot after running the restore to a) kill Helium and b) confirm functionality.
FWIW, my telephony.ab was 1.8MB and took SIX hours to restore. Seriously. Yeah yeah, that's a lot of texts but six hours? I've since added "SMS Backup & Restore" to my phone and will probably just use that, map out my phone layout and functionality and just manually replace apps from now on since most data is in the cloud. You lose some stuff, but prima facie it's boat tons easier.
Hopefully that helps someone else who had the same issues.

Somehow my phone got soft factory reset (lost all the apps but the files) when i tried to install the apps that I had before it throws a play store error while installing saying it couldnt be installed because of an unkown error "-24" plz helpp
Why are you mocking Koush? Yes the Koush. He made this app. He specifically said in the app description that:
Note: Helium is NOT available to Motorola devices. This is because Motorola phones have a bug that break Android's backup mechanism. Until this is fixed by Motorola, Helium will not work on those Androids. You can download Helium manually here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/apks/Backup.apk
If you find that Helium *does* work on your Motorola Android, please notify me.
Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely.

[nearSOLVED] Restoring WhatsApp chat history after installing Team Canjica's CM11 ROM

Hi
I've installed [Team Canjica] CM11 ROM yesterday, and it works very well.
However, after installing Whatsapp, Whatsapp displays a message about it being a custom ROM and therefore not fully supported.
It then attempts to restore the chat history and after some lengthy processing, says it couldn't restore the history.
Otherwise Whatsapp works normally and is able to send and receive messages.
I am very interested in restoring my chat history, and unsuccessfully tried the methods suggested on Whatsapp's support website, as well as by their support email.
Can anyone help me, please?

I am not 100% sure, but messages should be somewhere in Whatsapp folder on internal or external SD card. See if you did not delete it. You tried to restore them in the past on some other ROM?

Chat history files are indeed there on my storage on /Whatsapp/databases, and although whatsapp finds them and attempts restoring them, it repeatedly fails to restore them.
I have tried removing and re-installing whatsapp several times, even with older backup files too, unsuccessfully :crying:
Any suggestions?

Not sure. Try to transfer that folder to other storage (on external if it is on internal now). If that does not help try with other ROM and see what happens. I used CM11 and I have restored Whatsapp chats without problem as I remember.

[Partially SOLVED]: WhatsApp+ restored my chat history
Hi all.
I have installed WhatsApp+ (I am not sure but I think it is currently in Hebrew only).
It needs installing from the SD card, and is not available in PLAY store
WhatsApp+ restored my chat history.
Having my chat history "back" I removed WhatsApp+ and installed WhatsApp (original) again, but it again failed in restoring my chat history, so I re-installed WhatsApp+ and will use it for now.
If anyone needs help with the Hebrew on WhatsApp+'s site I will gladly help.
Good Luck!
Maybe there is an option in whatsapp+ to do a backup, and later to do manual restore in org app

You're right, there is - the same as in WhatsApp.
It produced the same failure to restore in WhatsApp, although whatsapp+ successfully restored.
Until I find another option to restore I'll stick with the WhatsApp+ for the time being.
Optionally I may send myself selected chats by mail, like in WhatsApp.
@ArcSer
Just keep Whatsapp+, no?
I use it too from the last year and it's way better than original one.

This thread is old, but my experience maybe can help someone
I had the same problem, because I swapped between LineageOS derivated ROMs for tests (but not on Galaxy S Advance I9070).
I backupped key file from /data/data/com.whatsapp/files and wa.db from /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases.
For the first test, I followed this advices from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/whatsapp-whatsapp-offer-backup-restore-t3342014:
Prerequisites:
1) Whatsapp Viewer (Links are forbidden for new users, you will find it at Github)
2) msgstore.db.cryptX from a backup (the "X" from msgstore.db.cryptX stays for the version of message database encryption)
3) key file from /data/data/com.whatsapp/files from a backup
4) Whatsapp must not have been started before
5) Phone number / SIM of backup and restore phone must be identical
6) Wifi connection for verification process
Procedure:
1) Install Whatsapp, but do not start it
2) Extract msgstore.db from msgstore.db.cryptX with the help of Whatsapp Viewer (the "X" from msgstore.db.cryptX stays for the version of message database encryption)
3) Copy msgstore.db to /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases
4) Start Whatsapp and hit "Restore" when it's offered
5) Wait for "Initialisation" to finish. It took about 3 minutes in my case. So be patient.
6) Enter Name and assign a profile picture, hit next
7) Finish!
but nothing. I uninstalled Whatsapp.
For the second test, I installed Whatsapp again, left (only) msgstore.db in /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases and copied key and wa.db files into their folders, overwriting the original files. Whatsapp crashed and I uninstalled Whatsapp again.
For a third test, I installed Whatsapp again (all untouched after second test), but maybe the key file automatic overwritten during the app initialization, because now Whatsapp working and it restored successfully chat history!!
After these tests, I think that the only files to leave/overwrite are: wa.db in /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases and maybe decrypted msgstore.db in /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases (but I think that also encrypted one should work).
Hy,
Just want to give my impression about using Whatsapp+ or GB Whatsapp or other 3rd party Whatsapp App, dont forget that Whataspp can BAN your number if they find you're using any other program instead of the original APP, it happened to a friend of mine so be careful not to use those fancy things that the original App doesnt have, even more, we all still don't knowhow safe is our data while passing through this 3rd party Apps, they look good and have nice features but it may have a high cost.
BR
I had same problem because install LineageOS on galaxy a7 2017,
but I have done these stuff and my whatsapp has worked corroctly:
0- install simulator android and install whatsapp and sign your number then restore your chats then go to internalStorage>whatsapp
1-cory backups and databases folders to safe place
2-go to Internad Storage>Android>data>com.whatsapp then copy cash folder to safe place
3-install whatsapp on your phone and not login.
4-go to setting > permission and allow whatsapp access to storage,camera,mic,...
5-copy all of files databases, chash, backups to your phone with same directories( databeses and backups copy to >> internalstorage>whatsapp and chash copy to internalstorage>android>data>.com.whatsapp)
6-now sign in your whatsapp
7-Enjoy it.

[Q] Save whatsapp backup Win10

Hello,
ive a nokia 930 with the newest win10 build (14322)
I want to roll back to a stable build, but before i can downgrad,is there a way to backup my whatsapp logs?
I tried to get acess to hidden file system with appmanager, but i fail at sideloading the appmanager xap, because windows power phone tool wont connect with my phone with developer setting on.
If i change to sideload mode,it can connect with it and load the app,but fails at installing, because it needs the developer mode.
Can somebody help me?
I really want to save my whatsapp log before downgrade.
Thank you very much
Hey. When you re-install Whatsapp, it will auto sent a package that include your log in 7 last day. App will ask you restore your log.
or you can find your log in sdcard / WhatsApp / Databases. U can use it to restore but this method very hard to sync old and new log.
Other method but it seem not support Wp, it is use service of web page : http://www.recovermessages.com/

[How-to] Getting Snapchat to login when its rooted. (10 Steps)

So I recently searched and searched and followed many guides but nothing worked.
Although, I just replaced a few steps and got everything working.
Can even install Snapchat after Xposed.
Requires just a PC/Laptop/Mac
and of course your phone of choice.
Step 1: Download BlueStacks 2 Latest
Step 2: Download B.S Helper
Step 3: Install BlueStacks
Step 4: Install SnapChat on BlueStacks
Step 5: Login on BlueStacks SnapChat
Step 6: Open BS Helper and "Click Patch For Super X"
Step 7: Backup Snapchat with Titanium Backup
Step 8: Transfer Backup to Phone
Step 9: Restore Backup
Step 10: Enjoy!
Hope this helps someone who needs it before they hassle with uninstalling and reinstalling Roms/Xposed/Snap and all the other various things I wasted hours on!
After my 10 posts are up I will update with links
Nice.
Once Snapchat is backed up with TiBu one should never have any problems after that.
I first backed up Snapchat in 2013. To this day I have never had to worry about logins. App has been restored, updated (to match Snapprefs mostly), backed up again (of course), and run on a slew of ROMs from JellyBean to Nougat.
Actually I don't have a clue as to what my login is. Backup is key.
LG G3 D851, SlimSaber LP ROM, MultiROM, Tapatalk 4.9.5
I recent upgraded phone's and restore from the TiBu still would not let me in. I'm thinking the backup version I used was from a too old of version.
I am using a systemless root + xposed on my phone. I was able to just overwrite the boot partition in twrp ( unroot ), login to snapchat, and restore the boot partition with the rooted version. It only takes about 2 minutes, assuming you make a backup of the boot partition from before you rooted.
@gustden, pretty good tip. Saved. Just in case my luck runs out.
There is one other thing. Not sure if it applies to Snapchat in particular, I always use the same device ID on all ROMs. Actually carried over from my old Samsung from a couple of years ago.
Some app data is tied to the device used when a backup was made. The Line app for instance. Long time ago I ran it on a ROM where I forgot to change the ID. Line detected a new device and gave me the hardest time. It even "threatened" to remove all existing data/chats/messages. I got it squared away after awhile but it was close.
I multiboot and run multiple ROMs and did not want that to happen on each.
But anyway, I wonder if Snapchat is somewhat similar. Restoring a backup on a new ROM but still having issues with logins.
I guess I can test that and see what happens.

Personal opinion - Magisk v11.1 with Systemless Xposed installed. All I have to do is toggle Xposed's switch, reboot, login to Snapchat, toggle Xposed on, then reboot. Takes about 3 minutes tops.
Thanks!
Wow thanks! You have no idea how many methods I tried trying to get snapchat to work before finding your solution.
WHAT IS B.S Helper??Please 1 downl. ink?
So, I just tried this.... AND IT WORKS!
Here's the links since OP can't post any:
Bluestacks DL (windows)
Bluestacks tweaker root tool 2 (DL is in the youtube description)
Now, what I did is copy the titanium backup using FX File Explorer to my Google drive, then transfered the files from Drive to my phone.
Perfect! Thanks for the solution mate!
I followed original post, with some difficulty because BS Helper was a chore to find, but am wondering where the TiBu of Snapchat on Bluestacks is stored so I can transfer ans restore it on my phone.
Thanks!

Hey, I was in your position and used multiple methods from above to get it to work.
After backing up and getting root on the virtual thing, download fx file manager (or any) and go to sdcard/titaniumbackup and copy all three things for Snapchat from there.
After that, go to system/bstsharedfiles or something like that and paste it in there. Sorry I got the name incorrect, I'll correct it in the morning. After that, go to the drive you installed BlueStacks to, and open programdata (only visible if you show hidden files), then you go to Bluestacks, then shared folder, then userdata, and then copy the backup files and transfer them in whichever way you prefer. I personally used Google drive and then used a file manager to take them from my downloads to the titaniumbackup folder in my sdcard directory, which then enables me to just open the app and restore.
I hope I helped, sorry if I got any information incorrect, it's quite late where I am and I'm not on my PC. Best of luck!

02. download BlueStack Tweaker https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1ef6n6F8HSZdzhaZnVqeU1vd2s
03. install BlueStack2 (better on VirtualBox as it may contain some adware)
04. install Titanium Backup (from Google Store)
05. install ES File Explorer (can be from apk - option on the icon menu on the left in BlueStack)
05. install SnapChat on BlueStack (from Google Store)
06. login to SnapChat or create account, leave it logged on
07. in BS Helper root your BlueStack (tab Helpers, Root -> Patch)
08. backup SnapChat in Titanium Backup (it will say it's running if you want to close it - YES)
09. copy Titanium Backup backup files of Snapchat to PC
- copy them with ES File Explorer from folder TitaniumBackup to sdcard\windows\BstSharedFolder
- you will find them in Windows: C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks\UserData\SharedFolder
10. paste the files in your phone in folder TitaniumBackup (created by the program after its first run)
11. restore backup (SnapChat will be at the bottom of the list)
And thank you very much Reghar! I'm lucky I found this thread before trying very hard with Xposed or other various methods that would sweat me out probably. Although I want to try Xposed for other purposes one day. Do you know, will it ruin my currently working SnapChat after I flash it? And if so, I suppose restoring it from Titanium Backup again would solve the problem? Hmm?

Although I want to try Xposed for other purposes one day. Do you know, will it ruin my currently working SnapChat after I flash it? And if so, I suppose restoring it from Titanium Backup again would solve the problem? Hmm?

I tried this method and it resulted in Snapchat crashing immediately whenever I try to launch it. Now I unrooted my phone and uninstalled Xposed and Snapchat still won't let me log in.
Thank you very much, OP. Works like charm. Maybe you should expand the part about transfering the backup done with Titanium Backup on the PC side with BlueStacks to the phone since I had to dig a little to find out. Basically you need to install a file explorer on BlueStacks, then move the Titanium Backup folder to the common folder between your computer and BlueStacks (/sdcard/windows/BstSharedFolder) in order to finally being able to transfer your file from your PC to your smartphone.
It keeps giving me the error "Oh no! Your login temporarily failed, so please try again later."

So I recently searched and searched and followed many guides but nothing worked.
Although, I just replaced a few steps and got everything working.
Can even install Snapchat after Xposed.
Requires just a PC/Laptop/Mac
and of course your phone of choice.
Step 1: Download BlueStacks 2 Latest
Step 2: Download B.S Helper
Step 3: Install BlueStacks
Step 4: Install SnapChat on BlueStacks
Step 5: Login on BlueStacks SnapChat
Step 6: Open BS Helper and "Click Patch For Super X"
Step 7: Backup Snapchat with Titanium Backup
Step 8: Transfer Backup to Phone
Step 9: Restore Backup
Step 10: Enjoy!
Hope this helps someone who needs it before they hassle with uninstalling and reinstalling Roms/Xposed/Snap and all the other various things I wasted hours on!
After my 10 posts are up I will update with links

Question How to i transfer my SMS from my Samsung note 9 to Redmi Note 10 pro..

Hi,
Is there any way that i can transfer my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 messages to my Redmi Note 10 Pro?
I tried to use Mi Mover but even if i already transferred the messages to xiaomi, i cant see it in my messages.
also, i tried to use samsung smart switch, but when i open the app on my redmi note 10 pro, it only says that i can transfer from my redmi to another phone, no option that i can transfer to my redmi
Use "Super backup & restore" application that logo green on playstore.
backup your sms through the app and copy the application file from file manager to your pc then your Xiaomi or send it by bluetooth or whatever.
then install the same app on your Xiaomi device then simply restore them.
note: The backup file of the app is on your internal storage when you copy it you should put it also on internal storage of Xiaomi otherwise the backup file won't showup

Simple and reliable way is to insall and take backup of SMS and Call Log using the app called SMS Backup & Restore
Then copy and paste the folder named SMSBackupRestore on the Internal Storage of new phone and restore.
I have been using it for many years without worries.
Cheers!
use google sms it should work
Sorry for the delayed reply. If Mi Mover and samsung smart switch can not work well, try other ways. Usually, we can transfer text messages between android phones via Bluetooth, Google Backup, SMS Backup & Restore, or mobile transfer like MobileTrans, Coolmuster Mobile Transfer, etc. About the details, please search online. Hope this will be your help.
You can use the SMS Import / Export app to transfer all your SMS and contacts you have, and the call log between phones. It generates separate .json files for these 3 categories. You find it in the F-Droid Catalog, which is available to download from f-droid.org.
