Question High battery usage? Even when I'm sleeping? - Redmi Note 10S

The device is new, has only 2 weeks of use and I've updated it to MiUi 12.5.6 (RKLEUXM). My use is very moderate, some videos, social network just for conversations and only wi-fi connection. After the update, I noticed high battery usage even when I'm sleeping with all connections turned off. Obviously there is some battery thief, but it only appears in the graph as "smartphone services", this is not normal. Any idea?
I can even feel the phone a little warm around the cameras when I'm using it for basic stuff.

Try battery guru's app...

It's seem a 12.5 MIUI problem for all Xiaomi note 10 series

Something(s) are running in the background.
Try putting into Safe mode at night to rule out 3rd party apps.
Track down the culprits and deal with each on a case by case basis.

I have this device since August 27th, after setting it up, I started optimizing it, restricted background use for a lot of apps, well, everything that could be disabled or restricted, I only gave free pass to apps I consider important, but, the reults were really bad, 17% of overnight drain! Long story short, the optimization must be done very carefully, trying to stop all kind of things might prove negative, by trial and error, I now get a good battery life, now it barely consumes 1% in 8-9 hrs idling at night, aod off, wifi on, gps on, so, try to optimize your device carefully

Hi,
Did you single out what was the culrpit. I have disabled every non essential app, tried this solution: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/improving-battery-life-on-miui-12.4139913/
But nothing helps. It only shows that android system is drawing power.
I will be glad if you could point what you made to fix your phone

If there is any Firewall that can log with the newer "secure" OS's you can use that to help pinpoint the rogue apk(s).
With Pie I use Karma Firewall but it's logging feature doesn't starting with 10.

After doing everything I could think of, the AOD seems to be the culprit, even thoug I really like it, when disabling it, overnight battery consumption lowered to 1% in a 7 hrs period

Thank you for the fast reply. I already had it disabled, but with no positive result.
Thank you, nonetheless.

Is tap on an option?

No, to achieve this low bat comsuption, I disabled miui optimizations, then, the option for aod is on or off, no more settings, I really like the aod, but the drain while idling drives me nuts... I painfully miss my galaxy note 10+.....

Meh, I hear that. It's to the point I got a second new 10+ while they're still available. They are the last of the stock devices running on Q.
I won't touch 11 or 12. Funny thing is it doesn't run like an outdated dinosaur.
Been a real bad year for Android...

I feel my battery life has come dowb after kl7 update..check scrrenshot
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
I am not seeing exact issue how much android OS usng,
looking to your screenshot, display is just 6%, means hardly you have utilised your device. it was mostly in screenoff state. Ok when you dont use your device, but OS is running in background so just OS but nothing else have drain it.
Now another thing looking to image i can say in 9hr your battery dropped 50%
it means > 5% / hr, that actually i count the measure.
In idle state it shud be 2-3 % with 3G n Data sync On. So here it is more.
anyway once let it drain completely then recharge it fully n count drain %/hr.
I am using few stuff, e.g
Autostart - just kill the app you dont using
Phoneweaver - It autometically controls my data connection e.g. just after 15min to my sleeping time, it gets turnoff my data, n swithon b4 few min i wakeup.
SetCPU - I set profile to use CPU <500 in screenoff state.
My batt seems to last longer on kl7.
Your is idle. it seem 3%/hr even using screen quite good time.
My sisters Note had same crazy issue with Android OS eating battery. Tried many things to find the culprit but only thing that fixed it was full wipe and reinstall ROM. No issues now.
Sent from my GT-N7000
il calibrate battery and see hwz it working
I have a very long time use with this firmware and very happy with the update.
I just disabled all automatic synch and the samsung apps notification and things like this.
3g is always enabled and some hours a day wifi is also enabled
Don't know if it will work for you but I had the same problem. Believe it or not a simple hard reboot, solved the issue. Was identical to mine using Android OS over 70% while screen was at 15%. Programs added and deleted were still running around in the OS until that reboot(I'm guessing). Let me know if that works.
seems better. i did a complete battery drain and recharged from 0 battery. now after 5 hours after complete recharge, im at 84%. 2 push emails..full time wifi connectivity, facebook/twitter/socialhub sync always on. 5 min phone call. and thats it.i think its better.
For those who do not realize it yet, having Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, etc syncing every minute takes a lot of power. You cannot expect the phone to be doing this for 12 hours straight.
If you have a lot of battery ussage with screen off, try to disable account synchronization and see what happens then.
You need to evaluate if you need to see every social network update on the instant, or you carry extra batteries with you, or you are able to find a place to charge every few hours.
What you cannot expect are miracles.

Hang on.i have all sync enabled...wifi always on .stil look at my battery life..its decent

Hmm, something has definitely changed for me.
Up until recently I was getting two days use out of a charge with wifi, gps & 3g enabled syncing 2 gmail, 1 yahoo account plus twitter and google reader stuff. Last couple of days Android OS has gone nuts and I'm getting similar readings in terms of usage to those quoted in this thread. This morning I've drained 20% in an hour with a bit of internet use.
Only thing I have changed is updating a few apps and I've put the thing in one of those silicon protection cases but that can't be the reason(can it??!!).

Cos you are using wifi all the way,
3G will eat up more battery

Device is awake more time, than it tells me in BBS (wakelock problem)

Hi,
I have problem with my Xperia Z3+ (E6553, firmware version 32.2.A.0.305 rooted). I use it everyday, and I don't use it a lot (about 1-2h SOT), but still my wakelocks are very high, and I can't target them. After a day of use, my battery is about 10-30 %, and this is below expectations. I have WIFI, NFC turned off for most of the time, the bluetooth module is active to connect with Smartwatch (Sony SW2), and transmission is always on.
I also use Amplify and Greenify.
According to BetterBatteryStats, in Kernel Wakelocks, I have 45 min of PowerManagerService.WakeLocks (which is sum of all partial wakelocks):

, but in Partial Wakelocks its about 15 mins. Also I'm aware, that some of the partial wakelocks are triggered at the same time:
also I include screenshot of Alarms - there are lots of it, but it doesn't show duration:
, and process:
So, my question is: what is consuming the power, what's with "lost" wakelock time, and how to measure it?
I also send screenshot from WakeLock Detector:
and system battery usage:
Please help, because I have 3000 mAh battery in smartphone, I do nearly nothing on it, and my battery is depleted after less than day.
Tbh I don't really see a problem here. I might be wrong, but 5%/hr drain with bt and sync always on and light usage seems completely normal to me.
Only thing I can suggest is to disable amplify for a few days and see if you blocked something you weren't supposed to, but i'm skeptical that you'll find anything wrong. That bt is triggering alarm more than every minute...can you post cpu states bbs page?

Well I disabled Amplify and we'll see what it changes.
BT is triggering alarm very often probably because of Smartwatch, but I can't target any specific app for SW2 that could do it.
Also I wonder, what's with other Kernel Wakeloks such as qpnp_fg_memaccess, netmgr_wl, or event1 to event6?
I'm sending today's screenshots from BBS including processor stats:
Are you new to this phone? Are you comparing it to what you had before?
In my experience 4.5% /hr drain with 90min screen on time doesn't really seem like it has anything wrong. After 12hrs (a full day) you have half battery left and that's not bad based on what i'm used to...
Phone was on for 2hrs with screen off but thats probably due to bt and smartwatch sync..I have trouble finding anything wrong here :/ maybe somebody else will have better insight

Well I tried to turn off smartwatch, and "awake on screen off" dropped down to 10%... (from about 20%). So I think it's smartwatch related. Also bluetooth alarm dropped off to 4/h instead of 1 per min. I don't believe, that smartwatch synchronization is consuming so much power (if so, there would be already several threads about it), and I suspect one of smartwatch apps. But how to check which app exectly is draining power? It doesn't show on BBS nor WakeLock Detector. Is there some other app that can track it?
I'm sending list of smartwatch apps installed - maybe one of them looks to you suspicious?:

Some battery drain issues

Hi. From a while, my note 8 battery life is doing terrible. I tought i had to change the battery (is an year old phone with high usage). But then, after a full day i went to charger with - hear me out - 64% (After a normal day of usage!!) I was very happy then sh!t happend. From some time, the battery draining increased a lot. Like after 12 h with only 2 hrs of screen time i need to charge my phone. Then i found that voice wakeup ( from bixby who is entierly disabled ) used whole 17% of my battery. This **** scared me and i want bixby out of my phone. How an app that is disabled to drain whole 17%? When i saw that my phone was 57% so without that draining i would had 74%!! THAT MAKES ME ANGRY. Is something i can do do get rid of that trash?

I am literally having the same issues. For the past 2 days I get up and after 3 hrs my phone is at 55 percent. I thought it was because I just got a gear s3 frontier, but I dont think it is that. I did get a recent s.w. upgrade a few days after I connected the gear and that's when it appeared a lot worse. What s.w do you have installed?

Same as you. I can't upload photos cause im new. But i have same sw installed. It's pissing me off really hard. I paid $5 for an app disabler and it's doing the work, apps that drained my battery are now indeed disabled, but the battery draining still goes on. It freaks me out. This does not look like a bug for me, looks like they are intentionally trying to spy me or smth, because draining battery apps are using mics and location. Also HY BIXBY. It literally never helped me, only annoyed me. What bug makes an disabled app, uninstalled, denied app, exiled app how bixby is on my phone can still drain my battery? It looks for me like a punishment for not allowing them to collect my info and this is not cool or ethic. Im not even sure if is legal.
Ya. I keep finding my location services turning on without my consent. It that happening to as well. I might just root my phone at this point to have more control over my phone.
Mine is also draining. Its the fault of september update
Before my android usage was max 2% per cycle and now it reaches upto 18% per cycle. I have noticed some lags and perfomance issues also. I feel like its the problem with September update
Also battery drains at night withot using.
May be the october update fixes the problem. Just hope so
Well I hope you all realize that the number you see displayed for the voice wake up is actually the battery drain for the entire Android system. If you click on the battery it will say Android system. So it is not voice wake up (although can include) but all of your system apps together.

I factory reseted and uninstalled all bixby related things from my phone trough ADB and now my batterylife is great again. Before that, something really strange happend. I disabled swipe left for bixby home ever since i got my note 8. And it keept enabling by itself. First time i tought i enabled it by mistake, but happend to many times to be a mistake.
Here is a tutorial for manually uninstalling all bixby related processes via ADB.

I've been getting stupid amounts of drain as well for months now. I've done full wipes, flashed other ROMs and Kernels, but still no luck.
SystemPanel shows the majority of drain as unaccounted for, so I'm having a touch time trying to work out what is actually causing it.

Absolutely brilliant, this made my day... I learnt toady that Bixby was consuming around 20% of my battery each day, even though I had, pretty much, all related functionality disabled.
After reading so many people saying that Bixby doesn't have a negative impact on the battery life I started wondering if perhaps having it fully enabled would solve the issue. That doesn't worry me anymore as I've just unistalled that piece of junk :victory::victory:
Thanks for sharing!
I uninstalled too all Bixby enviroment through ADB, plus a lot of other no longer required system apps but didn't notice relevant changes about the battery life.
Then, I did an hard reset of the phone... this of course restored all Bixby environment and... surprire, surprise, battery life is almost the same.
Honestly, I no longer think that Bixby environment is the main culprit of the so-so battery life of the SM-N950, but I'm also happy to read that someone got advantages by uninstalling it.
In my humble opinion it's always the same old story: Modems are the culprits, being very ofter unfit to the networks, hence asking for an excessive power consumption.

[Question/Discussion] Severe battery drain in PIE stock May and June

I bought this phone 2 weeks ago, and soon rooted it and installed May Update via Fastboot.
While I'm generally happy with this phone, there's serious battery drain issue due to a particular wakelock called IPCRTR_lpass_rx. While there are others like RILJ etc. they are still not that severe.
I've tried Wifi on + data off, both on, both off, Only Sim 1 activated, both sims activated.
After this, I even put my mobile on flight mode for a night and there was around 20% drain overnight. In my previous mobile Redmi 3S, there would hardly be 1% drain over night on flight mode and 3-4% if Wifi was on.
I was tracking these using BetterBatteryStats, however, while tracing the root cause, i even uninstalled BBS and used the system in-built bug report and analyzed it on battery historian to track the wakelocks and all.
Then came June update. I clean flashed through the unofficial fastboot, formatted data partition as well so as to leave no stone unturned. Again the same situation. A lot of battery drain.
Here are some reports -

Please see the attached graph.
1. At around 6.30 PM (UTC) (graph times are in UTC) (12 AM IST) I kept my phone on flight mode at 50% battery and slept for 8 hours.
2. I woke up around 3.30 AM UTC (in the graph) (i.e, 9 AM IST) and checked my battery percentage. It was down to 30% from 50%.
3. Checked the main cause of wakeups, not much in Userspace wakelocks but massive amounts of kernel wakelocks from IPCRTR_lpass_rx. For the duration of this graph, there were over a million (2.3 x 10^6) wakelocks from this service, causing wakelocks every 2-3 seconds.
4. Even though phone went into full doze after some time, this wakelock continued.
Any suggestions on how to go about solving this?
Running June update, Rooted + cam2api enabled using Magisk patched boot img
Its been a month since i moved to a custom ROM, currently on Havoc OS 2.7
The severety of the bug is lesser than stock ROM, however, still quite random and causes battery drain and keeps CPU awake!
Check the wake sources, IPCRTR_lpass_rx is the number one wakelock with 10^6 wakelocks!! Thats way too huge in my opinion, and keeps my CPU awake.
At least i can prevent the wakelock to a large extent by turning off location, wifi (or both) in Havoc. It also doesn't occur during flight mode, or if it does sometimes, a restart usually solves the problem for me.
Ideally, even if i keep wifi on, battery should not drain more than 4-5% overnight (which was the case in all of my previous phones, and in my friends' phones other than Mi A2).
This is december now. And so far, the only problem i have with this device is the poor battery, intensified with software problems, poor modem and LPASS!!!
Its kind of frustrating for me.
Please see the screenshots and the attached bugreport.

Question What is your standby drain? mAh per hour

Hello guys,
Can you post some details about your average screen off consumption ?
And some details about the variant/conditions like : Exynos/Snapdragon, 12GB/16GB, 5G/4G, mobile data, wifi, Bluetooth on, dual/single-sim use, AOD on etc.
You can use Accubattery or similar app to test it.
I am at 34.3mah/hour.
Exynos, 12GB, 4G, mobile data, wifi, Bluetooth on, dual-sim, aod off
Edit: i think the ROM Will also be relevant. I am on AUB9
0.4%/h with AUB6. before AUB6 was 0.7-0.8%/h
512 exynos, wifi/4g, aod on tap, bluetooth when needed, AUB 9

Sorry 0.1% per hour screen off drain time seems almost implausible
I get like 0.6/0.7% per hour screen off drain overnight on WiFi and most things turned off (don't need nfc, Bluetooth, location etc. whilst I'm sleeping). Goes up if I'm using the phone
Did you see an instant improvement removing those apps or was it gradual? Did you deep sleep apps yourself or let the system do it?

It is hard to believe, but it is very clear. Are you on Exynos or snapdragon? I use maxHZ, but it is optimised and I don't see it to be on consumption list.

So I deleted both naptime and Galaxy Hz (it's worth noting the latter doesn't need to be unoptimized in settings).
Looked like Accubattery is buggy on my phone (S21U Exynos) as it claimed I lost 0% in 8 hours of screen off, but 5% in the 10 seconds of SOT I had. (Stupidly deleted the app without screenshotting)
GSAM as shown below shows it was actually 5% in just over 8 hours but appears that my Naptime behaviour was still implemented despite removing the app (forcing doze without motion sensors makes it stay in light doze with all the characteristics of deep doze).
So from my brief one night study, no discernible difference having Galaxy hz installed and optimised vs uninstalled. Am reinstalling Naptime to try and get it to turn off and see what happens tonight.

Nice just made a routine to switch to 2G and turn off mobile data when at home and connected to wifi, this should increase battery even more
Galaxy Labs has battery optimizing modules. One of them tells you which apps sip what amount of battery.
