Gallery not showing images - media scan stuck - Samsung Galaxy M31 Questions & Answers

Hi all. This morning out of the blue my M31 is not showing any picture or video in the gallery, and so does every other app (FB, Instagram, Snapseed, Google Photos). The files are in the same folders and they're not hidden. I tried restarting, deleting the gallery data but nothing.
Only thing I cannot do is delete the data of the media scan system app.
Any help?
Edit: it looks like that's the only system app on which I can't do anything. Is there a way to reset it via adb or similar?

Album thumbnails problem after MySpace app.

Having a problem with my thumbnails in album after installing the MySpace app from Marketplace.
After I ran the app, I noticed that some of my thumbnails had changed to pictures from Myspace, but when clicked on, they still display the correct picture, ie. the picture that should be there, rather than the picture displayed in the thumbnails.
I looked through the device with File Explorer, and found a folder containing these images that were replacing the original thumbnails in Album, and so I deleted it.
This didn't help.
I then removed MySpace, but this didn't help either.
I've tried soft resets, and running CleanRAM, but still unresolved.
Any ideas on why this would be happening, or what I could do to remedy the problem?

[Q] Camera and Gallery problem

Hi,
here is my problem:
When I take a photo, quit the Camera and open my Gallery I can't see the picture I took.
When I reboot the phone and media scan is performed I the picture appears in the Gallery.
Is this normal? Is there anything I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
You should try to use the image review to check first

Thanks, but maybe I was not clear: how can I force the phone to put the camera pictures to the gallery immediately?
If i remember right I had to go into the dcim folder in gallery view and back to show the tumbnails ins gallery.
Anyway, with my current firmware jm7 this behavior has gone.
Tumbnails show up instantly.
Greetings

Are you using a task killer? Is it possible that you're killing something called 'media storage' or something like that?
I thought this only happened with music and videos. My pictures are added into the gallery automatically. Maybe your gallery is bugged. Try rebooting.
Edit: You could download "Rescan Media" from the market to rescan media at will. Or you could unmount then remount the storage where your media is stored.
This happens to me too; but just closing the Gallery and reopening it works for me.
Thanks for every one of you, guys! I've tried almost everything, even reboot didn't help.
But here is what solved my problem (may help somebody): I went into Menu Setting/Applications/Manage applications/Gallery and cleared its data. Since then the Gallery works fine.
I think CFLagFix 1.8 made some mix-up with the photo dates, and this caused the problem....
The firmware is: JM1/JM2
'Rescan Media' is exactly what I was looking for earlier, so I keep it anyway.
Thanks again!

Gallery folder un-findable

So I loaded Serendipity today. Master cleared and everything. So I was really surprised to find old pictures on my phone when I opened the gallery app. And strangely it wouldn't let me delete them. Hmm. So I looked in the sd folders, dcim etc. Cannot find these pics anywhere! The gallery app did tell me the file names So I loaded up root explorer and ran a search... NOTHING!
These pics show in my gallery but I can't find the files anywhere. Where are they hiding?

Went into the stetting, manage applications, to the gallery app and hit clear data, and these strange photos vanished! Still don't know where they were. but they are gone now. Would loveto hear where they were stored if anyone knows...
Spoke too soon! So after a reboot, the folder of pics comes back! If I clear the gallery app's data, it vanishes again, but returns after every reboot. Can anyone help with this?
Is it a stack of thumbnails (separate folder path) or viewable image files? If you have external SD maybe browse it on a PC.
It still there with no external SD, and I can't find it from the PC or root explorer.
You, know, I have a blog, and these all seem to be photos on my blog. And blogger seems to be hooked to Picasa Web albums. So I'm thinking Gallery pulls pulls the contents of my Picasa Web album down to the phone... could this be? Can it be stopped?

Click to collapse
If you have them linked then yes that is where they are comming from and why they keep comming back. The only way to stop it would be to but a no media file in the target folder, back draw is that the file will hide it from all Android apps that look for media

Sony album glitches: duplicated photos

Each time I move pics.from one folder to another) say from DCM to Pictures, I get duplicated photos into album.
In case of duplicated pics, having a look at properties, one seems to be into "storage/emulated/0/pictures" and the other into "storage/emulated/legacy/pictures"
I tried clearing cache, deleting data or forcing media rescan, with no avail.
Quickpic does not have this problem.

Filing issue in Gallery

Hi,
For months I thought that many of the pictures in the Downloads folder in the Gallery app were corrupt, but when I checked on the file names I realised they're just non-picture/video files (such as music, text, pdf, etc.) showing up there. They display as a grey background with an encircled exclamation mark. Why are these files showing up in Gallery, and how can I stop it from happening?
Thank you
