Question Very Low Microphone volume level when recording video in social media app - Redmi 9 Power / 9T

Hi everyone,
I just bought Redmi 9T Indonesia version the 6GB version a few weeks ago. It is running on MIUI V12.0.5.0.qjqidxm. I just realizes this problem when I was going to record my first video to a social media platform using this device. Its struck me like hell when i review the recording i just made. My voice is barely recorded. The phone was no more than half a meter from me when i recorded it.
So I go and google it, tried the disabling "Hey Google" from assistant setting. but, I couldn wipe cache since i can't get in the wipe cache partition menu the default recovery option only allowed me to wipe all.
Anyone have any idea how to fix the issue? I'm feeling i bought a defected phone here.

Music stops playing | Wiping the cache advice request!

Hey guys.
I'm having some trouble with the audio playback on my N1. If i start the music player, after 20-30 minutes it pauses the playback. It doesn't close the app, it just pauses. I can unlock the screen and press play again. The music player clearly is on pause because the time label blinks.
This started happening after 2 weeks of installing frf50. Now i'm on frf91 (came as OTA). Do you guys know why and if there's a solution?
In case there's none, can you please guide me how to wipe all the cache on the phone so i can factory reset it after?
Thanks.
PS: Running services: ListenService (Google Listen), Comment Service (Wordpress), StartAlarm_Service (EasyMoney), BatteryIndicatorService (Battery Indicator Pro), NetCounterService (Net Counter), FancyRefreshService (Fancy Widget), UpdateService (Pure Calendar Widget), Google Messaging Service (Google Services Framework), GenieRefreshService (News and Weather), MediaPlaybackService (Music), Smartkeyboard (Smart keyboard Pro).
Today, when i was getting ready to leave home, I started the music player and after putting the phone into my pocket (3 seconds) the music stopped in the same manner. While i was on my way home, everything worked ok.
Ok, maybe nobody has this problem.
Could you at least help me by explaining what cache do i need to clear before/after the factory reset. I don't really understand that stuff.
Thanks.
Nobody?!?!
Can't believe nobody is able to explain to me how to wipe the cache or at least point me to a thread that explains this.
I read about wiping the cache when you root and install a custom rom, but i would appreciate if someone can explain if the wiping is OK when doing a factory reset.
When should that be done... little details like this.
Thanks.
I've had this same problem. My player will stop randomly on me in music, Google Listen and Stitcher. I would doubt it's limited to just theses applications. I am pretty new to the Android thing too, just got an N1 about three weeks ago.
Not sure about the cache thing but you're not the only one having this issue.
It isn't a cache issue, wiping it probably won't help.
It is most likely your headphones. Specifically the plug in the phone. It is triggering the playback controls. The headset that came with the NExus has extra controls that send signals back to the phone, people have seen those being triggered accidentally with other headphone plugs, or when inserting or removing the plug.
Try playing without a headset when you have the time, I bet it won't stop randomly on you.
It could be that the plug is a little loose, or there is a small short in the wires. I would recommend trying different headphones.
I have this same problem, blocking headset commands didn't help (i was wondering if erroneous headset commands were being sent or something) but it happens both on bluetooth and wired, so it seemed unlikely.
I noticed in your listed services that Google Listen is listed. I ran a logcat on my phone for a few hours while listening to music until the pause suddenly happened. I looked at the log and what is happening is Google Listen kicks on to check if there are any podcasts in your queue that should be downloaded in the background. At the same time it also registers for media button events and requests audio focus for some reason even though it's just in the background - when it requests audio focus it causes other media players to pause.
I submitted this as a bug report to the Google Listen discussion group, but honestly, who knows if or when it will be fixed. I don't know of a work around other than uninstalling Google Listen.

Microphone issue on 3t?

Hi community,
I just ordered a 3t a few days ago but read afterwards about the massive microphone problems the 3 is suffering.
Phone calls shall be OK but sound recordings in videorecorder, WhatsApp, Skype etc shall sound very distorted, quiet and muffled.
Rumors are that this is a software issue but OnePlus isn't able (or willing) to fix this issue for months now. As the 3t has a slightly newer software build i want to know if this issue is present at the 3t too.
Kind regards
No issues with sound recorded on my 3t. I just listened to several videos I took and the sound was fine.
Thx for your reply. As I just read in a changelog the issue with recording videos got fixed with the 3.2.2 update. But the bad recording quality in WhatsApp, Skype, etc. shall still remain.
So it would be good if someone could test it with WhatsApp or Skype.
Used Skype last night talking to my niece and no issues with the microphone. She said she could hear me loud and clear.
I've noticed very low volume when I record in Snapchat, but haven't tested other applications.
Hmm, so it can not be fully excluded that this issue got transferred from 3 to 3t, damn...
It seems low overall to me, honestly. Snapchat in particular just seems to have a hard time picking up other sounds--like if I take a video of the TV, I have to be fairly close to the sound source. Or it has to do with the media sound level, as that seems super low until the top 20% or so to me.
Duo
My calling partners on Duo report hearing themselves as they speak. Is the microphone too close to the speaker on the 3t?
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/noise-cancelling-mic-too-aggressive.477798/
Made a bug report for this. Watch/reply if you're having the same issue to try and get some attention on the subject, as I hear it didn't work so well for the regular Oneplus 3 and took a while for a fix to roll out. Regular video recording sounds fine, but Snapchat cracks and pops when I record video of another source (TV, etc).
As far as I know it's not completely fixed on the 3 yet!
Still people are complaining about the awkward soundrecording. I think you should have mentioned that this issue is present in almost every third party app that uses the microphone.
Hello guys how´s going?
I´ve just bought an OnePlus 3T and noticed that the sound recording in whatsapp is very distorced and muffled..
I´m running 100% stock the latest update (Nougat 7.0).

I have no issue on the mic. and have updated to the latest update of Nougat 7.0.
I use to send sound record on whatsapp also just fine. call on whatsapp, or BBM also just fine.
Am sorry i just reply to tell u mine has no issue on the latest update of Nougat 7.0.
but I have no idea on the issue and the fix for it.
Hello guys
Just to add some information, this issue with the mic only happens with WhatsApp recording.
When it comes to record some audio with native SW, the sound is perfect.

i notice this problem too.....during snapchat video audio is not perfect but when we record in audio recorder it is perfect
Major issues here as well...Skype and Hangout Calls are absolutely horrific, I literally have to talk into the device (like 1cm away from it) in order to make sure that my voice remains clear. Even after 10 cm distance my skype/hangout partner has quite a hard time to understand anything. I just tested it with skype test call as well - horrific. I´m on the newest stock. Had no problems with my nexus 6p or my iphone 6S plus, I was able to have calls from like 5 meters distance without problems (honestly)
All this complaining about Snapchat WhatsApp etc... Who cares there all stupid worthless apps that everyone thinks it's so cool to put every second of their lives on there (lames). Heres few permanent solutions for you people. 1. Just stop using those dumb social media apps and talk to people with your mouth like it was intended. 2. Go buy a stupid Samsung phone or something that is commercially big in the States then you wouldn't have a problem. Think about it oneplus probably knew about these bugs before it was ever mentioned here. They aren't concerned with social media apps. They are concerned with their oos bugs and improving there devices.

Why buy a SMARTphone if you can't use social media on it ? Maybe if you had a brain you could answer us.
Me too !! I get the same problem with the recording sound !! Have you find a solution ?
Factory reset that's at least what did the job for me.

help mic.

help,
all of a sudden my mic on the phone is crap, i havnt droped it on the floor or anythiing like that.
but today it startet to make a very loud noise so the reciever of call couldnt hear a thing, tryed to restart the phone, it helped but only briefly,
is it a general problem?
or im just unlucky
regards
Hey man,
I just registered to say that I have the same problem. I own Nokia 8 and sometimes when I call with people they cant hear me at all or they can but they hear a loud noise. It looks like it is randomly occuring, I can call the same person 5 minutes later and they can hear me loud and clear all of a sudden.
Its very strange I think its the problem with microphone and I think its software related because I believe camera is using the same microphone for recording and that seems to be fine whenever I record a video.
Messenger/Viber/Whatsapp voice messages doesnt work sometimes tho so its linked. Hopefully this can be solved with via future updates but we should let Nokia know so they can sort this out.

Well in my case its much worse, I bought it from a guy who won it in a Facebook contest from Nokia that was held back in September I think. I am not sure if warranty applies to my phone, I hope so. But even if it did I would have to send it to UK and I am from different country

Tell them that it might be a software issue on Nokia end so I dont think they can do anything with it other than give you a new device.
same here
I found the same here. It is like interference. Since there are 3 mics, is it possible to disable one for testing?
Same here, happened today for the second time! BT and speakerphone modes are not affected, and only calls are affected - recording through an app does not produce the same issue. It's like someone is blowing air with full force into the mic!

Exactly like you describe, blowing air with full force into the mic.
But recently the problem somehow stopped and the mic is working BUT he audio is still damaged I believe because when I record a video there is interference in the background and no way its the same quality as advertised with OZO audio.
I also noticed that it stopped working after CHARGING the phone everytime, so I had to restart it after every charge, so maybe problem with electricty damaging the microphone ?

I have no idea what to do, will have to trash the phone for something else. It's still not working after hours of troubleshooting.
I managed to restore the mic functionality by entering safe mode (by pressing volume down during power up). We'll see how long will it last.
It's back. Nokia never again.

Nokia 8 Oreo. EDIT Ok found the thread - it Was specifically about Receiving calls, but might apply.
SEARCH xda nokia 8 questions & answers speakerphone
First question was 12 march 2018
Possible solutions:- 1 Full factory reset, setup Google account, don't install apps and Try it to see if solved.
2 Use Macrodroid app to turn off speakerphone 1 to 2 seconds into call (wow great app)
3 Press speakerphone icon twice at start of each call
4 Oreo 8.1 seems to have the problem less
Hope This Helps
I think I have solved this problem with my Nokia 8 which had been persistent for the last week.
I just took a household vacuum cleaner and cleaned out all the microphone slots and bingo the problem was solved!
Unfortunately I can't log in to the Nokia community forum to post there, I just get three endlessly pulsating dots, so if anyone can copy and paste this post over there it would be great.
Bad Mike.
I faced the same after last security upgrade. Today it became an issue for ANY call. And nothing I tried/found helped. (Soft resets, charging, Safe mode). Nokia 8 just generated noise like I would be staying on windy hill.
I've contacted Nokia via the Care app. It tooke ONE HOUR but in the end the operator helped me and I hope I've explained they should at least respond on their forum when the issue is reported almost a year. And their developers should know about issue that prevents using of phone for calling.
So the what worked for me part of answer:
- Settings>>Apps&notif>>See all apps>>Phone>>Storage>>Clear cache and Clear data
- Settings>>Apps&notif>>See all apps>>Carrier Services>>Storage>>Clear cache and Clear data
- perform soft restart (Power + Up buttons for 10 secs untill you see powered by Android)
Even before performing of the soft restart it worked again but it should be better to make it as well.
The microphone problem happened to me for the second time yesterday in a couple months. I tried the following, and it did NOT help. That said, the microphone returned to normal later in the day - it seemed to coincide with battery saver kicking as the battery become low.
I wish it would fail hard, so at least I can easily warranty the phone. At present, just when I give up and think about claiming warranty, the phone works again.

I am having problem with recording voice message with WhatsApp and any other voice recording apps.
I did everything and Nokia support member said it can be because of last security patch.
I can make calls and no problem but when I wanted to send voice message no success.
Please help me
Mine has been having the same problem for about a month now, had to start using my earphones for calls.
Using Google camera to record the audio is perfectly find, but stock camera and dialer have this noise.
None of the above has helped.
Considering sending it to the Nokia phone repair?

Recording Video - No sound

I've just been testing the stereo speakers in a quiet environment, by speaking from either side of the phone, however on playback I can initially hear white noise and slight rustling and then the audio just cuts out completely at the point that I spoke in the recording.
I'm a bit perplexed as to what is causing the issue. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
I have encountered the same issue. The phone completely stops recording sounds in video mode
Had the same issue.
Changed codec to h.264 in camera settings in Video Size section and all of problems had gone.
But the phone still cuts sound after ~3 sec while recording in applications like snapchat or messenger.
Edit: After restarting the phone both applications record sound
So this problems still occurs, despite being on the latest update.
Anyone else encountered this? Just wondering whether it's worse doing a full reset
I have the same issue. Do you have other sound apparatus BT associated? It seems to be linked with BT associated sound with my car. It comes back after turning off and on the phone.
Still quite annoying..
Reboot your phone.
Turn off all Bluetooth devices and Bluetooth on phone.
Try another camera app.
Turn off accessibility features.
Clear data for the camera app.
Verify the mic is working on other apps.
Verify permissions for the camera app.
Are you on a stock firmware or did you perform a different kind of upgrade?
What ROM / firmware.
Thanks for all those tips.
Emui 9 as I had the phone. I bought the P20Pro used two weeks ago and upgraded Ota to 203. I did not tried the camera before the upgrade so don't know the issue was already there.
I have found same issue with P30 Pro.
I'm normal camera mode I had the shutter set to mute.
When then going to video mode this setting carries over and sets mute too.
Still testing if other apps and services can override this setting when
---------- Post added at 06:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:58 PM ----------
If you wish to silence shutter on camera but not use the native camera setting to do so, use tasker to mute the phone when camera app is launched.
This mutes the shutter sound but does not stop video audio from recording.
Hi guys, Huawei P30, ELE-L29, EMUI 9.1.0.153 (C431E4R2P2)
All videos recorded using the phone have sound when played back on the phone (with 80% volume setting) but it can be hardly heard after taking such a video file to YouTube or any other smartphone/computer. Mic gain problem?
I have the P20 Pro and although all setting on video are set to mute it still records sound and it's really annoying as I cant turn the dam thing off, someone techy please help, I'm going back to apple when my contract is up don't like this at all, camera is amazing and only reason I moved back to an android tbh, thanks x

Mute won't mute the video audio, I think it's for UI sounds whilst in the camera app, don't think you can disable audio whilst recording..
Why do you want to? Just curious.
Just to add, I ran into the same issue on my fully update P30 pro.
I was out on vacation and recorded 3 videos back to back. 4K30, HEVC. When I tried the play them back, I found no audio was recorded. The video does have an audio track, but when I pull it out and look at it, it has nothing. Very annoying when you record something that you'll prob never see again in your lifetime (unless you return someday) and find out it didnt work right.
If I test right, everything's working fine. This is the first time this has happened.

Question Poor video call sounds

I am facing an issue with my video calls with all firmwares of global rom since first release untill 12.5.4. the issue is the other side can't hear me well as the volume is really low, and if a group of us are on the video, only the holder of the phone is heard, and the rest are heard like speaking under water.
Tried several apps, all types of available video calls and all same, DUO, messenger, imo, line, Skype, etc.
However, if speaker is on instead of video call, the sound is amazing. Tested mics of all 3 of them and working perfect.
Anyone facing same issue and was able to resolve it? Please let me know how to get it sorted as it is really annoying.
Nothing here I'm afraid, sounds like a mic issue

Tested mic and tried with speaker, video recording and voice calls are all perfect, except video calls using third party apps only
The First thing I can say is to force stop those apps and clear cache and data and see if the issue persists, try also a reboot after done it

Done, done ,done and a factory reset also done. I believe It is something related to software priorities or algorithm to reduce ambient noise but in a bad way instead of a good way.
As example, I make a phone call with my parents on video call using duo, if my daughter is far around 2-3 Meters from the phone then they would hear her like speaking under water, if further they would not hear her, if closer would be okay. Also, even if close to the phone the volume is lower than usual. However, if it is a voice call with speaker, everything is loud and clear.
This concludes to me as a software issue or apps compatibility with this device. I cannot find a solution, and I see it a very common issue with many devices as well, not only mi 11 ultra, but for this device I cannot find a solution.
Try to make a video call using Duo with people around you, the other side will hear you only and with a lower volume than usual. If you use WhatsApp it is slightly better but still poor.
What Cover do you have? Did you try the same with the phone without cover? Because I don't have this issue (using WhatsApp)

With cover or without cover, same issue
Would much appreciate if anyone got an idea of what is going on and can explain it
a new update
-----------------------------
I found what is the cause, it is called voice gain or volume gain. it is set as low by default and cannot be changed except by root. there are a few applications that can boost gain. as gain by default is set at 1 and can go as high as you could. an app called (Microphone Amplifier) is a simple app that really helped me with it for now but still needs more testing. the app got a very low rate because of no instructions how to use it and very poor UI, but the function is simply what am I looking for.
if anyone have an idea to fix the microphone gain without root please share it with me.
I've tried SetEdit but couldnt find the correct lines (tried volume_voice_xxx) but non of them worked.
