Issues with Google login - Redmi 7A Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys, let me introduce myself, my name is Lisandro, I'm new and I'm from Venezuela.
I have a Redmi 7A I bought like 1 year ago.
Since 2 months ago, I've been experiencing an issue with Google login and some Google pages on Chrome (or almost every browser)
The problem is that every time I try to log in my account, "Google play services" gets instantly killed, I though it was a problem with Google Play Services, I deleted the update, tried again and same issue, tried the same with WebView, = same issue.
So I decided to unlock bootloader and change the ROM to DotOs ROM.
What was the surprise?
Exactly the same issue. I'm not able to find a fix.
So I would like to read your opinion or, if it's possible, your advice. In any case, thanks so much.
(- PD; My camera isn't working due to water damage, I'm not sure if it's what's causing this)

I have the same phone but i get 0 issues related to this

I know, it's so weird. It's something I've never experienced in a phone before

Did you do anything to the phone before this issue?

Hmm have you tried flashing a full fastboot rom with MiFlash tool?
It would overwrite custom recovery but it could solve your issue.
Advice you to backup data if you do it
Also check Clean All checkbox in the tool

Nothing, I used my phone normally. One day I started to have the issue with pages getting closed (but my Google account had being added before and I didn't know the problem was there too)
The pages getting closed issue was what obligated me to Reset my phone by factory reset, when my phone restarted, I knew a have a bigger issue, 'cuz I wasn't even able to log in.

Let us just wipe the whole partitions and flash the fastboot rom through miflash

Do you know how to wipe /system all manually?

After some digging I uncovered this post from someone who had the same crashing issue even when installing different roms.

Via TWRP, right? That's what I did when installed DotOs Rom

Hmm, via fastboot and manually mkdir /data and /data/media in adb through twrp

Are you okay with reinstalling the base MIUI?
I think we should first just flash the stock fastboot rom, which will overwrite your old recovery but you can install it through bootloader again

I have no problem with reinstalling it if it's for a try to solve the problem.
I don't rlly know how to manually do that, is there any guide for that?
I'll do it tomorrow when I arrive home

Cannot install TWRP on Mi Mix

Hi!
I recently bought a Mi Mix and want to flash it with Lineage OS.
I followed all relevant instructions - did unlock the bootloader and so on - but I am not able to install TWRP using ADB and fastboot.
The phone is connecting well in ADB - even the "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" gets a positive response - all seems to work fine. But after rebooting, I am always confronted with the stock recovery - the flashing so seems not to work out of some reason - TWRP gets removed during the reboot process.
I also tried to first flash and then use the "fastboot boot twrp.img" command. This command starts TWRP, but only in a frozen state - TWRP then starts in a way that you are not able to interact with the interface. Also here - after rebooting the stock recovery is there again. Can someone give me a hint, how to solve this problem?
I am running ADB on a Linux Computer (Debian 9) - dont think, that this might cause issues, but maybe....
The phone runs the MIUI-Version "MIUI Global 9.1 Stable"
It would be great, if someone here could help me out. I am somehow stuck and dont know how to proceed..
Thanks for taking the time!
Best
You can find two compatible versions of TWRP here.
Thanks Gavin!
Just out of curiosity - can you explain me, why the official TWRP Versions are not working and the ones you did post are good?

Touch has never worked on the official versions to my knowledge. Even the latest 3.2.1.0 build still has broken touch. It is still usable if you use a USB adapter/mouse, but not via touch.
Dear Gavin! Your TWRP file worked great.
But I have no another issue that seems to be common with the Mi Mix - the media sound is not working anymore. Notification and phone works fine but music and video is gone. I just was reading that you should update the firmware. Are the other files added in the link you did send by chance the relevant firmware files?

I was looking for that as well! Thanks for sharing. I can confirm that this TWRP version works well with the Mi Mix.
Thanks guys - the device works fine now. You saved my day!
There is one thing left. I still cannot initiate TWRP manually - have to use ADB for this. Once TWRP is started, I cannot reach the devices harddisk anymore from my computer. Thats no issue now, but might cause issues in the future. Any idea how to solve this?

No. It happened with my device as well. You cannot mount your internal storage on your PC. I've tried many different versions of TWRP and none have allowed access. I'm not quite sure why ... I had other devices in the past and it always worked. On the Mi mix however, it does not. So just turn on your phone and transfer what you need to or adb sideload it.

No. I don't believe that he did James. Does it work for you? because it never worked for me either. I've tried all the different versions of TWRP and it didn't do a thing. Also I have no passwords or encryption. I'm sure of this. Maybe I'm also doing something wrong and that's why I can't Mount my internal storage while in TWRP recovery?
I don't use the official TWRP because for some reason the official versions of TWRP offered for the Mi Mix are broken. The touchscreen never works and I don't have an external controller or anything else to make it work other than the phones screen. So I've used the custom versions that have been fixed and re-released on XDA.

That's very odd. I'm not quite sure what to tell you. I know for a fact though that my device is not encrypted. I'm currently running RR without any password/pattern. Before installing RR I was on stock OS and still no password/pattern. I live alone and so I don't feel the need to use a password on my phone. So ever since I've purchased this phone I've never had a password on it.
No updates as far as I'm aware on the RR.
Does it Mount for you? If so, what TWRP are you using on your device?

I've used the same 1 from the beginning, smarty, I just followed the guide in the guide section how to remove vendor ROM. I use Linux it works fine. Everyone thought they had official ROM in the beginning only to find out it was vendor ROM. What about using mtp to send files, maybe that's what I did, can't even remember.

Wow. Well you're lucky tbh. I can't seem to figure out why mine doesn't connect. I'm not sure what the difference is between the vendor (ROM) and the "stock" (ROM) - I know I was using the global stable (ROM) that's what my phone first came with and it was running 6.0 MM.
Yes, I have tried to use MTP while in TWRP and it doesn't do anything. My computer does detect something but doesn't show the phone to be connected or anything. I have even tried to mount it in the options but nothing. I know I have all drivers installed and does not make a difference. I'm running Windows 10 not Linux.

Another corrupted Persist partition question thread

Hiya. So, here's the story:
Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro EEA, bought from Amazon, not a shady reseller
I made a Google Backup of my apps, because I decided to try out some Android 11 roms.
After trying them out, I wanted to go back to Android 10, so I clean flashed my rom, GApps and disable force encrypt, the usual stuff. But the Google Backup, that I previously used on all the A11 roms was suddenly gone.
I thought, that wouldn't be a problem, since I still had my Android 10 TWRP Backup that I made, before I started experimenting with A11.
I restored that backup and couldn't unlock my phone. So I deleted /data/system/locksettings.db and finally my phone would unlock.
But: My sensors didn't work anymore. I searched the internet for info and found out, that my persist partition got corrupted.
tl; dr: I restored a TWRP backup and my Persist partition corrupted.
Until yesterday, I didn't even know, what the Persist partition was. I never touched it.
I know how to get my sensors working again. But I guess my Widevine L1 is gone now, isn't it?

Unfortunate. Oh well.
There's actually multiple ways. You could:
Flash persist from Xiaomi's full fastboot package
Flash persistbak to persist
Flash a working persist image from another Mi 9T Pro
All those things worked for me. In the end, I settled with the persistbak method.

Well if you didn't make a backup before, L1 is L Gone. I didn't get it back. Following any tutorial should get you your sensors back though.
And remember: The first thing to do when getting a new phone is to backup that persist partition, so you don't need to worry about something like this happening again.

if i remember correctly you can get widevine l1 back via a magisk module or flashing xiaomi.eu rom and you can download the certificate from there, try it out if you dont got nothing to lose, by the way, if i flash persist will the sensors work permanently or do i have to do this again every once in a while?

Oh, interesting. Definitely gotta try that, thanks. How do you download the certificate in MIUI? Does it happen automatically?
Since I flashed my persistbak, I didn't flash anything else and my sensors are still working, so I guess it sporadically happens... sometimes?
Btw, if you aren't already, you should use OrangeFox recovery instead of TWRP on Xiaomi devices. It usually doesn't kill itself by wiping partitions or flashing roms, especially when coming from MIUI. Also, you can make persist backups with it. For some reason they removed that feature from TWRP.

To install OrangeFox, just download the zip, make backups if you want to be extra sure and flash the zip. Here's the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-official-orangefox-recovery-project-r11-1.4308019/

No, you cannot get L1 through Magisk module - because you need a (paid) certificate for your hardware
To the contrary, there is a Magisk module that disables L1, dropping you to default L3.

You can try with Mi flash (dont relock bootloader)
MIUI EU 12.5.4 not EEA but CN version
Set a lock screen lock, then go to twrp and use it to unlock and decrypt the storage
i was able to install twrp and that did the trick, BTW what's the downsize of installing twrp as my boot recovery... it's been a while since I mess with a phone but now my google messages says network not ready when sending a picture message, but i can received them, if I use the stock message app, I don't have any issues at all

There is no downsize. You are only replacing stock recovery with a different version. It has no affect on your phone, it's and your own data. It just makes it easier to flash custom or even returning to stock if required as well as other tools offered in the TWRP package.

Installing twrp doesn't install root. It just replaces the system recovery. If you really want root, use Magisk but I've not found any reason to root my phone for ages.
I tried today but it doesn't work.
To bad!!I'll try it later on.

Did you try setting a lock screen pin, pattern or pw and then using it to decrypt in TWRP? I'm using 3.5.1 twrp version fine.
sheephurther said:

I sold a phone yesterday to somebody, doing the full wipe before that. It was on the latest weekly Xiaomi.eu. Now it has this issue. Is it possible that it is the same thing?

Question Device does not update (SOLVED!!!)

Edit:
SOLVED!!!!
finally figured out the issue, will share just for information as unlikely to happen with anyone else.
When i installed xiaomi.eu, i cannot remember which partition it was installed at, was it slot A or B. and when i flashed back to official rom, i left it by default.
This has messed up my partitions when i was back to official rom. so whenever i update my system, it would just fail all the time because it is over writing the booted partition.
dont know how, and dont ask me how i fixed it, all i can explain is the following:
checked on fastboot the slot and it was A. so i tried to change it to B and it didnt work with all available commands. So, i used TWRP to boot into fastboot slot B and installed fresh ROM 12.5.4. bootloader unlocked just to be safe. then updated and it went through without any issues.
i cannot explain what exactly happened and if what i did was correct and if my theory is correct, but it worked!!!!.
Thanks to everyone contact me and gave me any idea.
Hi All,
"Couldn't update Miui"
"download rom and try updating again"
i have an issue with my device, it all started after i install eu rom and then flashed back original rom and locked bootloader.
i was on 12.5.2 when i unlocked bootloader the first time, and install eu. version. tried it for a week, and it was really bad. so i switched back to original rom 12.5.4 when it was released and locked bootloader, after that, since then, i was not able to update my device to the following roms. i tried the first time 12.5.6 and it didnt go through when device rebooted. as deviced auto restarted for a few times, (it boot to miui logo for 3 sec's then blink green then restart, happens for a few times like 6-10 times) then device reboots back to version before update but really really really slow.
in the begining, i thought it was faulty update, but i found that several people did it successfully,
Then i thought they have their bootloader unlock and 12.5.6 was a beta version, so that was the reason, until stable 12.5.7 showed up. so i've unlocked bootloader and updated, same issue.
Then i thought, maybe 12.5.4 version downloaded is corrupt somehow, so i've installed 12.5.2 and updated, failed again. same result.
all all cases above, i tried locked and unlocked bootloader and i still get green blinking a few times then a very slow version before update.
Anyone familiar with this case? i really need your help.

the problem is, i did that a few times now. doesnt work.
seems like there is something blocking in the update after reboot.
the error i am getting after every failure is the following:
"Couldn't update Miui"
"download rom and try updating again"
could it be a reason of installing xiaomi.eu using twrp that the partition has changed and caused this problem? just a thought.
Are you trying to install it via the OTA? Because the problem can be the unlocked bootloader

Question MIUI 14 - settings reset after reboot

Hello, anyone experience reset of settings like, carrier settings, battery optimization etc, after reboot of the device? MIUI Global 14.0.3.0 (TKBEUXM)
Mh, seems a bug of the new release.
Have you tried to backup and reflash the stock ROM?

Looks like a new fw bug so.
Wait for an update, because I think that the previous release wasn't affected by this, was it?
I am not 100% sure, but I think 14.0.2 had the same issue

Could you please explain exactly how the carrier settings reset? I will be testing 14.0.3 today and I can check for the issue.
Maybe I didn't describe it properly. My mobile network provider requires to set access points for internet and MMS manually when sim card inserted in new phone. Now everytime I do reboot, I need to maintain them again, because it resets those settings, ridiculous.

You mentioned that you made a factory reset but the issue persists.
I clean flashed through fastboot and I can confirm I did NOT face this issue. I have to set my APN manually as well and the battery optimization but both of those stayed the same after the reboot. Version 14.0.3

Good for you, but it should not work like that. We should update system by OTA and everything should be ok. When I did factory reset it just wiped data and stay with 14.0.2. I didn't flash ROM by Fastboot

Thanks. I think you should join the Global Telegram group and share the issue there so others can report it and Xiaomi can workout the issue.

It depends. You can choose not to wipe. But I usually always wipe completely for the best experience.

I flashed RKBEUVF (operator version) to SKBEUXM some time ago MIUI 13 and I needed bootloader unlocked, what about now? This were never Chinese version.

So if you didn't lock your bootloader after flashing the new version, that means the bootloader is still unlocked. And you could go ahead with clean flashing EEA fastboot.
