MIUI 12.5 wifi issues - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hi, today I received the EU update to MIUI 12.5 - 12.5.1.0(RFAEUXM) . However, now my Mi 9 can't connect to wireless networks. I already tried restore the network defaults and then the factory reset without success. Any ideas?
The behavior is - I move the switch to turn on, seems like it is on but no networks are displayed. If I move away to other apps and then look again for wifi switch, it is off again. I feel some lag when I go into wifi settings pages and after turn the switch on.

Do you have some system apps disabled? I remember similar behaviour when I used to disable/remove system apps on Q.
If factory resetting did not help you, then it's definitely the OS has a problem. Wait for another update, or try to reflash the latest firmware using PC.

No, I don't :/
I already looked into logcat and seems related with the wifi driver the issue:
07-12 16:42:33.989 846 846 E [email protected]: Failed to write driver state control param: Invalid argument
07-12 16:42:33.989 846 846 E [email protected]: Failed to load WiFi driver
07-12 16:42:33.989 846 846 E [email protected]: Failed to initialize firmware mode controller
07-12 16:42:33.989 846 846 E [email protected]: Wifi HAL start failed
It's complicated just live with mobile data and a limited plan until a new update. I believe that I can't reflash because I don't have the Mi 9 unlocked and to unlock it I should wait (360h I believe). I already tried the "download latest package" from "about phone" but I still have the wifi issue.
Downgrade or flash another ROM should work but as I said I have the phone locked.

That's a lot like Kernel issue, small update should fix it. Send a report to Xiaomi regards the issue.
Since you're locked, you better wait this fortnight.

Same issue here, have tried to reset Wifi, Mobile network and Bluetooth settings but no improvements

Have restored MIUI 12.0.5.0 from Fastboot in order to get Wifi working again...
Very bad work from Xiaomi for this

I first experienced this issue after updating my mi 10t global to 12.1.3. It's a known bug and has been discussed at greater length on the mi community website. It remains unfixed in the 12.5.1 update.
However, there is a temporary solution that will allow you to reconnect to your wifi network. You'd have to change your ip settings from dhcp to static, and enter the relevant digits. That's it.
On a separate a note, 12.1.3 also introduced a mobile data bug that remains unfixed in 12.5.1. If you've set a private dns provider hostname under private ip, you will no longer be able to use mobile data. You'd have to toggle this setting to off or auto to get mobile data working again.

If you're able to see your wifi network name listed under wifi assistant or available networks, even if it's not active/connected you should be able to press the arrow on the right and enter the settings for that network. Here you'd have to change ip address from dhcp to static, then enter the relevant digits in the spaces that appear below (assuming you know what they are). Then press the tick up at the top right to save before exiting.

I have same problem
I found this on Youtube and its work for me

This is definitely not the same problem.
Our issue is about the Wifi that is not working at all, no wireless networks, no connection, phone constantly crashing when entering Wifi menu.
Also, there is an issue with GPS Localisation (maybe related to the wifi as the phone is using wifi to have more accurate result).
Have received again today the 12.5.1.0 update and the issue is still here...

Same here, but the static IP roundabout don't works

My Xiaomi T10 could not connect only to *some* wifi, it has been so since when I purchased it.
I tried different solution and never worked.
Only few days ago I updated to MIUI 12.5 and I tried the first method here (basically reset the wifi settings)
Xiaomi: How to Fix Wi-Fi Problem When Updating to MIUI 12 | ITIGIC

Hello,
Got a Mi11 and ran into wifi problems, fought a bit...
My problem was that wifi kept disconnecting, just like in the video above (from nepal). I had noticed that it did not with all access points (specifically with mine !).
Having had the same problem a while back with an oculus go, I did the same : forcing a static ip.
Didn't work with the Mi but I [desperately] set the dns to "plain google" (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) and wifi sticked !
Then I checked my ap settings and noticed that my ap advertised its global dns (eg 192.169.0.254) and not itself as the dns provider, corrected that on the phone, that is putting the router adress as dns 1, and it works reliably now.
Looks like if android doesn't get a specific ip or address positively upon connecting an access point, it drops it to connect to the next, wich sounds like a good idea...
Hope that helps some of you...

Hello,
Thanks for your advice but this solution cannot be applied here as the Wifi cannot start at all and when you try to look at it after trying to activate it, system panel hang and crash.
I have tried to dig a little bit to see where this problem can come from but haven't found anything yet.
I have check the /persist partition as there is no way to check the Wifi MAC Address with MIUI 12.5.1.0 but no, the partition is still fine (as everything is working properly with MIUI 12.0.5.0)
I have opened 3 tickets by using the Xiaomi official reporting tool but nothing yet... I guess they have abandonned the Mi 9 as MIUI 12.5.1.0 is considered the latest MIUI for this phone.
It would be good to find some Mi 9 users that have successfully installed MIUI 12.5.1.0 (the EEA version) on their phone.

Anyone have tried the recent 12.5.2.0(RFAEUXM) on their Mi9?
In order to know if the wifi bug is still there or not.
Thanks!

I have the Xiaomi M11 lite 5G NE with Miui 12.5, when I exit the house, my WiFi turns off automically, so when I get back I have to toggle WiFi to turn it on again. I have seen some Adroid Advanced settings and one of them is Turn Off Wifi automatically. This seems to be activated, but I can't undo that setting.
Anyone else have this problem where your WiFi is turned off automatically?

Latest available MIUI 12.5 (12.5.2.0) fix the Wifi issue.

wifi sleep policy not work correctly?

My wifi seems to disconnect from my wifi when the screen turns off, despite me having changed my settings to never sleep. When I look at the wifi settings it says "Unsuccessful Connection". I didn't have this problem with my MT3G.
Anyone having similiar issues or a fix?
wifi Reconnection issues
I'm having the same problems with mine.
It initially connects to wifi fine but when the screen goes off it sometimes drops the connection and will not reconnect without a reboot.
I have tried setting it to keep the wifi when sleeping but it makes no difference.
I found a few similar reports elsewhere and followed most of the suggestions, like changing routers, changing wifi channels, setting an IP address instead of DHCP etc. Nothing seems to make any difference so far.
Mine never seems to reconnect after waking up, but I just go into the Wireless settings/Wifi settings window (where it lists all the Wifi networks in the area) and press on the network name and it brings up a dialog allowing me to connect again. I press the Connect button and it instantly reconnects. No reboot required...
Try increase your router's "Group Key Update Interval". I had the same problem with my D-Link DIR-655. I changed mine to 10 hours and it's working fine for me now.
i have the issus that my wifi is "connected" i mean i see the logo at the top bar but after a few minutes i don't get any update from the internet like gmail oder twitter when is wake up the device from sleep i get them back again
maybe it something with the Group Key Intervall but i can't switch it on my speedport w700v router
I just tried switching mine, highest it can go is 7200 seconds, so I bumped it to two hours instead of one. linksys
my wifi reconnects when I wake the screen almost 100% but it's not reliable.
I have to go to wifi list and reconnect. Sometimes I disable wifi and then re enable, conects no problem. Irritating
i heared that switching the encryption from wpa/wpa2 to only wpa2 will solve this issues, will try it when i am at home
...seems like almost everybody got this problem.
for example with my Hero i don't had this problems so it's something with the W-Lan card of the Nexus
Got this problem too but will try the suggested work arounds when I get home tonight
found out that my encryption is wpa2 not wpa/wpa2 ... damn so thats not the reason
and my router cant configure the group key intervall
I don't have this issue, running CM5.0.3.1, mine is set to Never Sleep and it does not. My connection does not time out either. I connect to two Trendnet TEW-637AP's at home, in mixed b/g/n mode with WPA2-PSK mode security.
Could it be, that this prob exists just for nonrooted phones?!
i've got mcr 1.6 which is rooted and don't work
i think it's a problem with the wifi card and the wifi router
rooting just means that you get read/write access to all folders
doesn't change anything on your wifi connection

Not exactly, it means also modified system files, which could include those that interface with the wifi chip and those that control the sleep state of the device.
Also, Cyanogen (and most other custom roms now) are running on a different (newer) kernel.
yes i know
but mcr is although running on different kernel and it's not working there
i don't think its an issue bei the stock rom and mcr
maybe here is someone with CM where the wifi drops?
edit:
okay i tried it with the desire rom version from modaco, the same failures, maybe i try a CM built now, and see if it changes
Code:
[B]Rom [/B] [B]Router / Access Point[/B]
MCR 1.6 | Speedport w700v | not working
Desire MCR | Speedport w700v | not working
CM 5.0.3.1 | Speedport w700v | not working
i think this means it's not a rom issue, its something with the routers and access points in combination of the wifi card from the nexus
That´s strange..perhaps just accidentally, but: yesterday I installed "Task Manager" , which has an auto-kill function.....since then my Wifi reconnects perfectly
maybe because it automatically does anything inside of the 10 minutes which keeps the wifi active?
which one did you install?
there are a lot of them on the market
which developer?
edit:
ah i found a strange issue, today i was at the wifi of my girlfriend, she has the same router BUT i don't have the wifi problems there, with the same model of router thats very strange
i found another work around, i set my twitter client to 5 minutes update intervall, this means every 5 minutes is network traffic and the connection won't drop after my 10 minutes public key intervall change
don't know how much battery is used while setting from 10 to 5 minutes but i think it should be okay
Try a different WiFi channel
I've seen reports of WiFi connection problems being solved by changing channels on the AP. Channel 10 seems to be a consistently reliable choice.

WiFi randomly disconnecting on .575

Hello,
I recently flashed .575 on my Z3C, now WiFi connection is unstable, disconnects after a while. The consequence is that updates do not work correctly, file transfers through WiFi are often interrupted. Did any one notice the same behavior? Any fixes (tried different AP and to reflash the FW)...
Thx
Problem persists in 23.5.A.1.291
Similar issue here
I also have problems with the latest 23.5.A.1.291 firmware. There are two problems in fact, sometimes it disconnects and can't reconnect anymore without rebooting and the other is that, while it still seems connected to wifi, it's effectively offline as internet doesn't work anymore, after a while it starts working again.
It's a pity because the Z3C was the device with the best wifi and coverage that I've ever tried with the previous Lollipop. I partially resolved the problem, meaning that it happens less, changing a few parameters into the router, disabling every possible feature, still isn't completely resolved...

I'm not OP, however I tried that setting but it didn't improve much. After all, DHCP is a protocol which should be used only at connection startup theoretically
I also have the same issue, however installing Auto Wifi Manager seems to have helped -

Already tried but it didn't helped. As for the issue, for me it disconnects and reconnects instantly even with full signal every 5-10 min. So it does not eat my mobile data however every lengthy file transfert by wifi might be interrupted.
Tried different channels, 2.4ghz, 5 GHz on two different routers at home, on several public Wi-Fi AP, behavior is still the same.
If screen is on the connection stays but is sometimes interrupted and reconnects directly. If screen is off Wi-Fi gets cut for 2-5 min then reconnects (according to logcat, might be Doze? Wi-Fi is set to be always on). Tried also a full reset of radio settings.
Solution
Does not work unfortunately.
I might have a good news for you guys. I think I finally managed to solve the issue:
1) Download a Lollipop FTF
2) Open flashtool in Flashmode for this FTF and exclude everything except packages beginning with AMSS* (it will not alter any data on the phone and it's very quick, also does not need to regenerate the dalvik cache)
3) Flash
-> You just replaced the baseband / modem with the Lollipop one. Tested briefly on mine and so far no disconnections
Same problem here, after update to .575, and .291 didn't help.
Sometimes when I open WiFi networks phone doesn't find any network at all. Also bluetooh is acting weird sometimes (disconnects, can't turn on).
Tried with DHCP and clearing radio settings, and even downgrading to 23.4.A.1.264 and 23.1.A.1.28, didn't helped.
May be it is hardware related... I am on 4.4.4 and have same issues. On some routers better, on some worse. Also sometimes works ok for long time, next day same place disconnecting...
In my case, everything was OK until upgrade to MM

For me downgrading to Lollipop 23.4.A.1.264 solved the issue but as soon as I install Marshmallow, even a clean install by PC Companion the problem reappears. So I will stay on Lollipop for now, it also has Stanima
I think something is wrong with the way Marshmallow manages the WiFi connection

Mi 9 bad reconnection when low signal on mobile network

When I am using a mobile network (both 3G and 4G) and the signal is low, sometimes I lost connection (That's normal), but the stange thing is that phone don't reconnect soon and it remains offline. I have to manually reboot or enable/disable airplane mode... and the signal come back.
I'm using Mi 9 for about 5 months. I am on the last firmware and even on old versions same thing...
Anyone has got similar problems?
Hi i have also some problem with my connections, I am from Germany I got my Mi 9 since a week (Rom was Global Europe 10.2.30 EEU) now I have the Global Rom (10.2.13) but this is also no solution.
Sometimes it shows me a Network but I tried to call my girlfriend and it has no dailtone, also it shows me network but I can't receive calls, same problem I have with mobile data, it shows connection but then it isn't connect to the internet.
if I switch off the mobile data connection and switch it on then I have normal connection.
I hope there will be a fix in the next update....I heard that some people have that problem.
Mine loses signal sometimes on the subway but reconnects by itself in 30-60 secs, i find that a bit slow but overall I think it holds onto the signal better than the phones i had in the past. This is the type of issue that would be solved in 1 month at most but here we are, an update almost every 2 months that "optimizes" one thing and weighs in at 500+ MB.
Mine have the same problem. When I'm on the subway it lost the signal and when I go out to the street again I have to enable/disable airplane mode to get signal again, because it can't connect automatically like a normal phone.. I'm from Mexico and I have Global ROM 10.2.13.0
Enviado desde mi MI 9 mediante Tapatalk
I have a similar problem. Where I work the phone goes from 4g to 3g, to avoid this I open the phone settings 1 (by entering * # * # 4636 # * # * on the call keypad) and switch from lte / td-scdma / umts which is default option to only lte.
The problem remains the same when the phone loses the line and then finds signal again, because although there is signal after I do not receive photos or audio from wa or cannot I access the services of play store for example and I have to switch to default option again...
I'd like to know if there was a method to increase the power of the antenna module even just a little with root permissions ...
I have a similar issue, especially when I am driving car - I am from Germany.
When I start driving with Google Maps open (to have an overview of the traffic), after about 30 minutes my Mi 9 loses connection and won't reconnect, even if I switch on/off airplane-mode etc. This does not happen every time, but relatively often. To get back network connection I have to restart the phone.
About 2 days ago when I was home I lost connection again. Google Maps was still running. After closing the app my Mi 9 immediatly connected to network. That may have been coincidence, but next time I will close Google Maps if my phone loses connection again in the car and will report here.
I am on Xiaomi.EU 9.9.26 Android Q (I just installed *.27 v2), had the same issue on different Xiaomi.EU Android P releases.

It happened to me several times and I can't understand why ...
In this case the connection seemed to be good too, I had all the signal notches in Lte, but in reality it was absent.
I had to restart.
Known problem it seems...?
Hopefully Xiaomi will fix it soon.. wonder if custom ROMS have the same problem

So, as I said I report back.
Today again after about 30 minutes my Mi 9 lost connection (0 bars). Again at about the same region. Probably the connection is bad there. However, my Mi 9 didn't reconnect even after few minutes (sometimes I waited 5+ minutes and IT didn't help).
I closed Google Maps and another App, which requires GPS. Nothing happened. Then I deactivated GPS from the quick menu and my Mi 9 connected immediately to the network with full bars.
I have "o2" as network provider.
Xiaomi.EU 9.9.27 v2 ROM.

Yeah, I know, For me is the same.
When I lose connection I've to change to LTE, When it happen again, I've to do it again so I come back to default option.
I do this to avoid restarting the phone and to be faster, but the issue remain anyway...
But remember, When u're in "only LTE" option, you will not able to call
Workaround is change to 3G connection preference
Hi everyone!
I have the same issue and after lot of things that I have done, as change MIUI to Global version, now I can use 3G without problem, but if I try to use LTE/4G after some minutes using GPS in high accuracy, LET connection turns OFF.
So, my workaround is change to 3G connection preference when I need to use Waze, Maps or any other app high accuracy.
I have the same problem too, and I always have to reboot the phone to get the data/wifi to work again. But just a minute ago I had the same problem and I just killed all tasks in recents and the network came back without having to reboot. May be coincidence or I'm on to something.
From experience this problem should have disappeared for quite some time now.
I have always been using EEA ROMs. I believe I have not seen this problem at all in MIUI 12. It has been such a long time since I last saw the problem I don't really remember if this was fixed during the MIUI 11 era.

*Fix* Slow WIFI with Bluetooth enabled

Since the Redmi 8 don't have 5ghz Wifi capability we are stuck with 2.4ghz wifi and on my 2 Redmi 8 devices with Bluetooth enabled that kills the speeds to about 5mb. Apperently Bluetooth and 2.4ghz wifi run off same hardware or software and don't appear to play nice together..
I use multiple different wifi connections a day and was a problem for me. Anyway so this was the workaround that fixed the problem for me and my device. Pretty simple and straight forward and suppose it could work on other devices with same issue..
Always only try this at your own risk.. *As Root is Required*
First off: I'm located in Canada, could be different in another region.
I have a unlocked bootloader
latest stable Xiaomi.eu rom for the Redmi 8 installed
Official TWRP installed..
2: *Root Required*
Download and Install latest version of Magisk and flash via TWRP
3: Download and install Service Disabler from Playstore and Grant su permission after opening the app .
4: Search for Google Play Services and click on that .
5: Scroll down the list till you find NearbyMessagesService and click it to disable it permanently.
6: Now Make sure you have Google's "Nearby" functionality disabled
Go-to your Google account - Device connections - Devices - Show Notifications off.
Now back to settings - Passwords and security - Location - Scanning - turn all off
And reboot.
Now my other device is on stock MIUI and I haven't tried this on stock rom as of yet. It's my wife's device so if she lets me I will test this on her device as same issue is present.
In time I will try to see if this "fix" will retain if I unroot the device after..
*Update* this will continue to work if you unroot device.
*Update* when I installed latest Xiaomi.eu rom 11.0.10 sometimes it don't work till I reboot. Not sure why yet.
thanks for sharing
but for me I just changed the Channel used in my router and everything works fine

try channel nom 10 or 11
guys you have slow wifi because your wifi and bluetooth are using 2,4ghz they interfere with eachother you need to download an app like wifi analyzer and go to the last tab then look which channel isnt used and use the channel which isnt used i hope i helped you
without root is there any fix?
Yes WiFi and Bluetooth in same frequency range but that should not cause problem. My mi 8 lite manages to communicate with my mi band 3 and use WiFi ok. I had an ulefone and that worked ok. I had a blackview and that worked ok. The redmi note 8 pro did not. At first I thought it was maybe a bad chip that was leaking so tried another with same result. So its hardware related or software. But it's not the fact of both using same frequency band. As Bluetooth is not as strong a signal I would have expected that to drop not WiFi.
Xiaomi should have sorted this by now. Miui 12 still hasn't fixed this.
Fix for home wlan use

This is a big problem and Xiaomi should fix in the next update!
However if you mainly use Wifi at home, change the wifi frequency to 5ghz and the problem is gone.
In my modem/router you can do separate 2,4ghz and 5ghz networks (both work at same time), so my Laptop and Xiaomi phones are on 5ghz (a lot better speed in both) and old hardware are in the 2,4ghz network.
Didn't know this before, but now also my laptop wifi speed came from 30-40mb-> 120mb.

Are you kidding me? Well, what a waste of mobile I have bought ... everything is fine except for something as important as connectivity. Ok Xiaomi ... Does anyone know of any ROM that this failure does not pass? so far all the ones I've tried happen the same ... :crying::crying:
I also tried the proposed fix (on latest Stock rom / Android 10) and unfortunately it did not work Any other suggestions how to solve this extremely annoying bug?

Install a custom rom like HavocOs
I have the solution ===>>> youtu . be / WMksEEKXlJY
The problem is interference with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Scanning.
DISABLES THESE TWO CONFIGURATIONS
On MIUI 11:
SETTINGS >> Passwords & Security >> Location >>> Scanning >>>
Wi-Fi scanning> (OFF)
Bluetooth scanning> (OFF)
On MIUI 12
SETTINGS >>> LOCATION >>> Scanning >>>
Wi-Fi scanning> (OFF)
Bluetooth scanning> (OFF)
This will solve the problem of drops in the wifi.
It is NOT POSSIBLE to use Bluetooth in conjunction with wifi. But with these settings disabled, you can use wifi with better quality (as long as Bluetooth is disabled).

Thanks. I watched the video, but unfortunately it is not in English, so I didn't really understand what the actual solution is. For me it seems, that your main "trick" is to switch from 2.4GHz to 5GHz WIFI, is this right?
Would it be possible for you to write a short manual on your steps here in English, that would be great!
Thanks, Lars

Thanks for the update.
Have already disables these options, but was hoping to be able to use Bluetooth in conjunction with WIFI, since my smartwatch is always connected to the phone by Bluetooth
So unfortunately no final solution for me :crying:

Thanks for the suggestion, moving from channel 6 to 13 did the trick! I can finally watch videos with Bluetooth speakers.
Would Xiaomi.EU fix these issues? If so, I'll aim for that ROM!

Redmi 9C connected to wifi but no Internet

I just bought this phone and I'm trying to use it in my network. I use Ubiquiti products (16-port switches and a bunch of AP access points). I connected the phone via wifi to my network and it has no problem for a while until it just doesn't have Internet connection. It stays connected with its IP address intact but for some reason it cannot seem to reach the Internet. The workaround is to simply turn off the wifi module and turn it back on. It's randomly happening and the workaround is very annoying.
I have a couple of other mobile devices (iPads, iPhones, Android phones, Windows laptops, etc.) and I never experienced the issue with these. I tried connecting the Redmi 9C to all my wifi networks:
Guest wifi with captive portal
Main wifi with RADIUS authentication
IoT wifi with regular WPA2 personal authentication
I tried resetting the wifi settings of the phone. I tried reinstalling the latest MIUI fw/sw.
and the result is the same, every time. At this point, I can safely consider that there has to be something wrong with the phone. I'm not sure if it's because of the MIUI 12 update because I updated the phone to the latest firmware as soon as I got it out of the box. Is this a known issue with this phone? I have another Xiaomi phone (Mi Mix 3) on the same network without any issues.
Any ideas?
Same thing is happening with my Redmi 9c
I am encountering the same problem with my device.
I have my region in Bangladesh (the country I live in) ,tried changing it a few times. Also upgraded my MI UI version but nothing changed.

I always use the updated firrmware but it's too late, I returned and asked for a refund for this phone and replaced it with a Huawei Y6P.
I'm having a similar issue with my redmi 9, wifi works fine but all of a sudden it stops working even though it's connected. Apps dont load, messages dont go through and i have to toggle the off and on wifi. I'm on miui 11, there are no updates available when i try to update but i'm about to ask for a refund.
