The only things I mostly look at are SOT battery usage % and temperature when charging.
It rare I charge past 80-90%, just not needed.

My S21 Ultra reliably loses 1% an hour without significant intervention on my part and with very light phone usage. I'd say that this is the standby battery loss rate. I'm fine with that. Is that a normal experience?

Sounds like there's background activity going on.
Google backup Transport and Framework maybe. I have those two always package disable and Google play Services is turn off. Google Play Services is a vampire and not often needed by me except mostly for Gmail.
Playstore is also package disabled unless needed. Location is always off unless needed.
I like to see under 1%, think I'm getting about .5% with the tap on AOD setting. It still gets texts and phone calls; not in airplane mode. Wifi is always disabled, I don't use it and bluetooth is turned off at night which is mostly for security.
I have about 86 apks always disabled, most are bloatware anyway.
This stock 10+ is heavily configured but it gives it better battery life and is more secure.
With the newer more efficient memory and CPU you should be able to do better than me. I'm running on 4 G lte only, not sure if 5 G is still an issue now or not.
This is my SOT usage right now and a lot of that was streaming vids. Ha-ha notice the Accubattery charging reporting glitch, no idea what triggered that... Adroids.

Well, what kind of "Screen Off Discharge Rate" do you face?
I'm actually quite happy with 1% an hour. It is rather consistent too: 5G or LTE or WiFi -- all the same.

If you're using your device to it's full potential, without handicapping any of it's major functions, 1% per hour seems about at par with what i get on WiFi at home. This goes up to around 2% per hour when I have my Galaxy Watch connected to the phone via BT, and I'm at work, connected to 4G.
I have a Galaxy Tab S7 too, which is always synced to the S21U for "Calls and Messages on other devices" setting, and Seamless Earbud Connection enabled on the Buds Live and the Buds Plus, that allows them to automatically jump between the phone and the tablet depending on which device i pick up and start using. I also have Your Phone app running in the background, that connects my phone to my Windows laptop for calls, messages and notifications. My setup allows a close integration among all my devices and I can take calls or continue work on anything at home with a screen.
I'm using Dual SIMs, both on LTE, WiFi and BT always on, Auto-Sync enabled, FHD+ (my eyes couldn't appreciate the difference between FHD+ and WQHD+), Adaptive Refresh Rate, Auto-brightness enabled, and no debloating except what Device Care automatically puts to sleep/deep sleep. And with all this going, I've never run out of battery in a day, so far. If I were to use only the phone screen for everything, then maybe SOT would've mattered more - but I jump between devices at my convenience and my use-case scenario, and i like that flexibility and freedom. Samsung is the only non-apple company that makes such a cohesive eco-system currently across these many device categories.
So as long as my phone makes it to the end of the day (when everything gets plugged in anyway), I'm not looking to cripple any functionality on this expensive glass and silicon sandwich. I just want to get my money's worth...
So for my specific use case, I'm happy leaving the phone running everything it is capable of, while sipping a little battery in the background. YMMV.

My outlook is the same.
By the way, you might want to try Samsung Flow from the Microsoft Store. I find it to be loads better than Your Phone. It has every feature I would want. Drag and drop into a folder in the Files App. Control apps / screen remotely. Clipboard connection ON/OFF. And, more.

I tried it right after i got the phone but found the Your Phone integration a little better for calls, messages and notifications. Flow was better at file transfer definitely, but because most of my services are cloud based, I rarely require an actual inter-device file transfer.
But this was months ago, and maybe Flow has improved over time.

Less than .5%@hr about 3% for 6 hours or so is what it's running now. It's not much...

What apps does she have installed which you don't?
For example, if she uses the Facebook/Twitter apps and they're updating themselves every 10 mins as opposed to every hour (or even manually) then her battery will get eaten alive!

i think she has a facebook app i'll check whats different to my phone.
Also I installed a few battery type app to see if things are different on her phone.
Any other ideas suggestions welcome

Turn GPS off when not needed and WiFi when not needed that usually helps. Also when wifi is on turn off notify me about new networks. Make sure screen brightness is set to automatic also.
if she has live wallpapers thats a bad ideea for a lasting battery, live wallpapers use cpu.. cpu user electricity, and the battery gets empty really fast. i`m runing ~ 40hours with nonstop wifi or data mode activated, depends on my locations, 1 push email runing 24/7 skype 24/7 and i talk for about 10-30 min per day... so... install cpu temp v2 and uncheck the screen timeout (set it to 10 minutes) and let the phone on the table and look at the cpu tempv2 if the cpu drops to 1-5 % @100mhz , if it doesn`t drop below 10 percent @100mhz then you have some nasty apps that are not idle.
if im in an area where i get 5 bars i can get more battery life while using my phone for a while, than I would if I am in an area where i get no connection or an area where my connection is constantly dropping. This is because the phone constantly tries to connect to the service provider and uses up tons of battery doing it.

Go to Settings -> Applications -> Running Services and check what is shown.
(Switched my phone to English language to ensure the names above are correct). Do the same if your language is not English and you are still worried.

I have 2 days battery life with medium usage, download a stripped rom and keep it basic on the widget/wallpaper/amount of apps.
Download damiangto 1.2 gold underclock to 800 mhz (or keep it at 1000 mhz, but it doesnt change so much in speed for me)
undervolt by steps. as long as your phone doesnt die in sleepmode you can go lower. Im undervolting at -100 without any problems.
Download superpower or juicedefender. I have good experiences with both, using superpower at the moment and its free and good.
black backgrounds and themes are better for battery life because of the Super AMOLED screen.
You dont have to totally discharge your phone before charging it, charging whenever possible is actually better for long term battery life.

annoyingly it mucked up the battery discharge statistics because my battery was full when i put it in her phone.

her battery use (phone was in her bag not used all day at work)
she was in a different location to me. see no CPU activity either
I looked in running services
mapslocationfriendservice (latitude) was 26% mine was about 9
and android system was higher on her phone
I mucked about unnistalled and installing maps using market and titanium backup
also I installed OCLF on her phone (one click lag fix) because it is on my phone. also the battery apps were slowing it down.
In short
her battery is plummeting about 3 hour if its in use and 11 in standby
its not the battery
i think is something to do with the android system.
probably latitude
but i could be wrong
I'll have another crack at it later.
Worst case i could master reset and restore titanium backups of her texts and contacts and stuff. but I like to sort it out

I think it was google maps latitude update.
I cant 100% be sure.
but the result of the stuff i tried on the above post seemed to have changed her phone from the poor performance it suddenly started getting.
I am thinking of trying out 'superpower' and or 'juicedefender' on mine and her phones in the future.

I just bought my P880 two days ago and everything is great except one thing: battery drain. It is not occouring in background when phone is in Deep sleep, it doesn't lose charge while it's sleeping, but when I just unlock it/start using it, it just starts draining.
I have rooted it, and unrooted using SuperSU. The thing is I haven't experienced that kind of drain yesterday, it was working fine except drain caused by bad signal (badly inserted SIM).
Usage by Android System is at 50% over 5 hours, Screen is at 9%. Awake graphs are the same as Screen on graphs- no wakelocks.
I have these apps installed:
Prey Anti Theft
Skype (not running)
Adobe Reader
SoundHound
Disco Light
QR Droid
Sygic (not running)
X-plore
SwiftKey 3 keyboard
WiFi, GPS, Data, everything turned off except mobile signal
Running Internation version with Android 4.0.3, Kernel 2.6.39.4-00001-g0f9182c
Mobile network type is EDGE:2 with mobile signal -70dBm
I'm first time android user and this is my first problem so I tried to include as much info as possible.

I see 2 mayor issues, first is the android deft app, it may be running and trying to sync but bcz the data is off it will try to connect foreva.
Also, edge is (in other words) ROAMING and this forces the antenna to use more power to get signal from another provider, it get worst if you have a phone with sim card.

Thanks for pointing that out, but I have disabled every sync and I have set phone to 2G mode only, the reason is that UMTS signal was low and was draining battery even more.
I am only losing sharge when just doing random things on phone, even if that means only adding/removing widgets/apps on main screen with WiFi off.
Then you must try the Deodexed version of v10f, removing the bloatware with the script in the same thread.
The issue may be some lg apps that are running in the background so doing this will have 6 hours in standby time with 100% still, like me (if I turn all radios off ).
I have just woken up, while sleeping (9h) phone was awake for about 50%, no wakelocks but there were 30 alarms from Android/Google maps ans 29 alarms from com.google.android.gsf

Similar state here as the OP. Got the phone two days ago.
All is good, it rooted OK, Directory Bind works fine, phone runs like hell (about 10 times faster than my old Galaxy S) BUT it drains battery like a genuine power guzzler.
Ok I get that according to the performance you get, it comes with an accordingly high power draw, so I don't ***** about it, I just want to know if this is normal. I mean I played 2 hours and 15 minutes of Sprinkle and the battery died, starting from a full charge. Screen was set at 50%.
GPS is off, Bluetooth is off, no 3G mobile network and screen is at 50% brightness as I said. There's an NFC icon on the notification bar next to the battery icon, which I am not sure if it should be there.

Please note that as the OP said, the phone consumes nearly nothing when idling. Firmware is 10f.

You can see pictures below, the drop on the second picture happened when I was writing me previous post from P880.

- I have reenabled 3G networks but the signal is only at about 50%.

Ok buddy, so we can keep discussing it here together.
For the matter at hand, I see the same behavior, when I unlock the screen, it's like I have opened a whole in the battery.
It dropped from 85% to 65% just from downloading a new map (500MB, 20min download on a slow wifi) from Sygic downloader. I mean this can't be right, right?
I also checked cpu spy and it reports the system 75% at deep idle, 15% at 51Mhz and the rest are 0% to 1% up to 1500Mhz. So if the cpu has so little operation, what on earth is draining the battery?
I wonder if we could be looking at a bad battery batch.
Is there an app that reports exactly what activity consumes power and how much?

I even restored to factory from recovery mode since I screwed up the root, so it was just stock, but guess what, nothing has changed :crying:

I am going to try this, I am also talking to LG Support right now. WIll let you know when I get more information.
I disabled everything, and I didn't see pretty much any improvement. LG Support suggested me to return the phone.
Pretty much draining the battery atm so I can charge it back to 100% and use something like Battery Calibration. Maybe it can change something.

Playing 30mins of a 720P resulted my battery dropping from 62% to 50%. I also used the gps for the first time with Sygic (Jesus even the GPS is lightning fast) and the battery went from 50% to 30% for a 20 minute ride. It seems that my phone cannot give me more than 2 hours of use. That's just silly.
BTW do you or anybody, know of an app that can show battery usage per app?

Also you can use Better Battery Stats to see if there are any wakelocks or anything is waking up the phone etc.
What is happening right now is rather strange, I disabled screen turning off (trying to drain battery to 1%/2%) looking at stock battery app, it seems to be stuck at 21% and it's not changing.
The stock application does not do so much analysis, but the batterystats you used above seems more like it.
I am getting panicked and I miss some stuff haha. Ok lets cool.
It makes me sad that we don't get any input from the community. Something like "yeah this is normal, live with it" or "your phone is faulty, take it back to the shop for a replacement" or something.

Maybe this has to do something with the built in power saver. Maybe it kicks in when the battery drops to the 20s and stops whatever is draining it.
I am thinking trying some battery saver to see if it does the same thing but from the beginning of the full charge.

Actually I have disabled it when it asked me if it should turn on. So I guess nothing to do with that.
I am going to backup now, fully unroot and somehow get it to pure stock. Than I'm probably going to exchange the phone in case battery life doesn't change.

Can someone please explain why IPhone is basically not draining battery when screen is off? I can put my IPhone with all services running...Facebook, email, Google, Instagram etc...If I dont use it 24h it maybe looses 3%...
But on Android...not matter what I do (Greenify, disabling notifications for Facebook, Instagram... etc..) I don't get anything close to that. I discovered across multiple devices with different ROMS. With my fresh OP3T it is not any different...
What is Apple doing differently here?

Google has more services that sync in the background than apple by default, so things like location history (which I would recommend turning off) and sync for apps like Facebook that can't be disabled (unless you use Greenify) are the most common drains.

I know But even if I change massively on Android incl. Wakelocks etc there is not a lot of change. Facebook I had e.g. on Cyanogenmod as "keep active = no" and others as well...But IP was still way much better. And I get all updates on my IP6 incl. ebay, messages etc....
Honestly it is annoying because stand by drain should be at least the same with all the measures we can do with a rooted device...but in reality IPhone keeps e.g. 100% for at least 8 or 10 hours....
I know location history has definetly some influence...is there any way to send location history maybe only every 10 min?

Set localization to battery saving mode, and you should get better results on Android. IOS is better optimized though so you wont get the same results on android. Also if you suggest on battery stats you shouldnt comaper androids SoT and ios "device active" or something because they are not the same.
I know it's really bad. Look at my results. Can't even run for half day on battery

If you want really disgusting battery life, give the moto z play a try. My wife got one recently and it is unbelievable. +10 hours SOT over 48 hours with sync on and no battery saving techniques. It's only got a 3500 mah battery, which leads me to believe CPU efficiency plays a bigger role in battery life than optimization of the OS.

Because your device doesn't sleep, if it sleeps (screen is off) the battery drain should be way closer to a solid line that barely goes 1-2% down. Buy you are ilon Nougat CM 14.1? It's known that sleep is currently broken on 7.1 Nougat for Oneplus 3.

I think there is something really draining your battery or your battery is dieing.

Download betterbatterystats this should give you a clear view what is the cause. Here an average drain of 1.7% per hour.

Hi I have better battery stats installed nothing significant in there too. I am. Running 4g all the time may be that's why the drain is so bad

Real life experience with my work iphone 6plus yesterday.
3% at 8pm...sync and all services on (gmail, location for google, facebook, ebay, instagram etc...) and running. Phone was ringing twice because of skype call coming in, but was not used...Next morning 7am still at 2%....
Android got better, much better, but still is far from that....pretty much the only part I like about IP

The Iphone has better battery life, easily.
However, the battery life on this phone is such that it shouldn't be a problem... Who goes a day or two without access to a charger?
If you are doing nothing but watch Netflix and play Pokemon all day, yeah, the OP3 will run out of juice... But at that point you don't have a social life, so you can hug the wall and recharge and not miss a beat.
Phone was at 98% at 1:00am and then 96% at 8:30 when I woke back up. All sync is on. No greenify or anything like that. I think standby drain is just fine.

Google has more services that sync in the background than apple by default, so things like location history (which I would recommend turning off) and sync for apps like Facebook that can't be disabled (unless you use Greenify) are the most common drains.

iOS does too. Here's a screenshot from my iPad. I was getting all notifications on time and did everything on it except game.

If I was a hardcore user, (which I'm not,) all that would concern me is whether my phone could last a day after a few years of use.
As a light user, its nice that my battery can go days but that's what it really is, a nicety.
Dunno about OP but my IP6 always had at least 8-10% battery drain overnight, and I never even had Facebook on it (just Messenger). OP3 is at 3-6% most of times, depending on how many times it got woken up due to notifications.
My battery life is just perfect.
Beta 8 Nougat.
Beta 9 is even better.
Can you guys post some screenshots what sot sre you getting?
Don't have a screenshot but I know I got +6.5hrs yesterday. I'll post a pic when battery runs down again. Still on MM.
In my opinion, P9 has pretty good Screen-On time.

I wasn't on the phone continuosly but I did watch a lot of YouTube videos in the time. Pretty happy with it so far. Only had the phone a week so still getting to grips with it.

Have you been using the phone with full brightness?
In this battery test video, P9 with full screen brightness will last about 3 hours and 37 minutes.
In another video, a guy get 6 hours and 8 minutes out of his P9 from his normal usage pattern.
Most of the time, I would either be indoor or in my car. So, I think auto-brightness does not have to frequently increase screen brightness. That is probably the main reason why my screen-on time is good.
I also have an adblocker installed. Because Ad delivery system consumes a lot of battery.
This is an old article from 2012, but I believe it might still be true even today.
One example from their research, Out of 100% battery that Angry Bird app had used, only 30% was used by the game itself. The remaining 70% of battery consumption was used by tasks related to in-app advertisements.
If your phone is rooted, you can use Adaway.
If not, DNS66 is an adblocker that does not require root privilege.
Moreover, I mainly use my phone for communication (through Instant Messaging, E-mail, or web browser) and map. I do not have any 3D games installed. The most power intensive app I have installed is probably is Solitaire: Decked Out.
Additionally, some common causes of high battery usage are
- Proximity to cell tower. If you usually are in areas with bad reception, your phone will use more battery in order to connect to cell tower. Many areas have different signal strength for 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. Unless you really need to use high speed data, you can save battery by switching to networks that have the best reception.
- Wi-Fi consumes less battery than mobile data (3G, 4G LTE). Sometime people forget to turn Wi-Fi on. So make sure that you use Wi-Fi as often as you could.

Difficult for me to give you an accurate SOT because I never charge my battery above 80ish % I never charge to 100% as it stresses the battery too much but I'm delighted with my SOT always use auto brightness. Coming from a 2 year old Note 4 the P9 SOT is outstanding!

Do you mind to share which firmware you are using right now? Recently I have upgraded my firmware and the battery life has deteriorated.
I've seen a maximum of 5 hours of SOT since I got the phone. My sot time is very short when I see other people's sot times. I always use the phone with the following features; +4G +always bluetooth +always location + no wifi +always sync +dolby atmos +dark mode +when i got notifications aod. Although I turned off the settings I used, I still could not do this for more than 5 hours.

Show us a screenshot of battery usage when you are at 10% - not at 80% - then we can see where all your battery fuel is going.

whatsapp is always a huge drain if you use to send and receive messages. My solution to this was enable multi-device login. I, now, use Whatsapp mainly on my computer when I'm at work and then revert to the phone when I'm off. The led to a huge difference. What used 25%+ for whatsapp..now stands at 4-5% over the day.

Actually since when I bought phone (almost 1 year) battery same. Even I sent to warranty for change battery. But still same sot

Morning 7 to 5pm I m using WhatsApp for work. I m using 2 WhatsApp. Work WhatsApp isn't stop every minute always receiving several message. I can't stop WhatsApp because of work. I think that's why WhatsApp percent is so much

reqirement of my job I m working at construction site so I can't use on my computer. I don't have other solution to multi wp
I use WhatsApp endlessly with friends and family every day and I get nothing remotely like that drain....

Does your battery run out by the end of your typical workday? Do you have to charge it during the day everyday, or can you get to the charger comfortably when going to sleep at night? SOT by itself isn't a very good metric when seen in isolation.

In a day average I have 4 hours screen on time and I m using in a work phone around 4 - 5 hours. That's mean every noon I m charging phone if not it finish before leave work.

Are you mainly on Wi-Fi or mobile network? OP is on a building site so most likely on mobile network most of the day

So your battery level goes to 20% or below by every noon? Sheesh, that is indeed potato battery life...
But your screenshot suggests a pretty good standby time, nearly 11 hours usage and 72% remaining...
Maybe post the battery usage screenshot once your battery dips below 20% so we can try to pinpoint the issue?

Actually my battery level around %50 in noon. For example this screen shot is today after noon. In noon was %100
I am 90% sure that your battery drain is caused by the mediocre 4G signal which is used for internet at all times. A lot of power is basically being allocated to get a better signal and thus while you use WS all the time, your batt drains FAST. If you happen to have Wi-Fi for a day or two and the signal is maxed out, the battery will surely last longer. Generally speaking though, you cannot compare other peoples SOT to yours as most people do not use WS as much as you, nor 4G at all times.
There might be some other extra settings that could be altered to improve battery, like:
adaptive battery ON
enhanced processing OFF
location OFF
background data OFF
resolution to FHD
background usage limit to put rarely used apps to sleep
NFC OFF
nearby device scanning OFF
And of course the last version of android 11, as it seems A12 is not yet worthy or ruling the S21U. Sadly I have a feeling that Samsung might not fix A12 for the S21U as they are now releasing the S22. Hope I'm wrong.
The Big Battery drainers:
Screen - If you have manually set it high - Try Auto
Mobile Signal - Nothing you can do if its poor - unless possibility of WIFI
Location - Always On is a no no if you can help it - try use when app open only.
Background Data - Turn off for apps which its not reqd .
Also Since Android 12 I also seem to get lower SOT although my phone battery has been same since android 11. Im not sure if they changed the way they show/measure SOT now.
