Is it possible to ota update the device when custom recovery is installed and phone is rooted? Should i flash the .ozip file on TWRP/PBRP just to update my device? Or do i need to flash stock recovery and manually install the .ozip file?

I've xt1068. It is unrooted. So it has unlocked bootloader. It has twrp and I've marshmallow update for my phone in zip format. My phone is not connecting to pc. I've tried so many ways to connect it. So can I directly flash through twrp without rooting? If so how? And if not, can I flash it after rooting? I'm planning to root it using SuperSU zip.
Do you have stock firmware in zip format if you have such file then I think you can't flash it through twrp, you can only flash custom roms and twrp backup via twrp not stock image files
I just changed my phone from Xperia Z3 to P9 and still try to figure out how to do things on P9.
On Z3, users can just make a pre-rooted firmware and flash it from TWRP.
That method can be used for both reinstalling firmware (factory reset) or updating to a new firmware version while keeping root privilege.
Is there a way to do that on P9?
Edit: Can I just flash update.zip from this thread, then flash SuperSU? Would this method allow me to update to the latest Marshmallow version and retaining root privilege?
Yes you can update your rom.....
But if you update your rom with a zip from this thread then you loose root access.
The roms are not pre-rooted so its going to Flash back your original recovery menu.
B182 is the latest official mm firmware.
You can update your phone and use this tool to flash twrp and get root acces again.

I installed a custom recovery on my Mi a2 and unlocked the device, but now i can't update the Ota update. Download worked fine but when i want to install the update i see: error updating.
Can someone help my so i can get back ota updates?
Maybe i neef the stock recovery image.
