Magisk. How to install on Nuu Tab8? - Magisk

Hey, new here and not necessarily new to rooting but haven't done so in some years...but...was just wondering if anyone can help me with a problem? Got a cheap Nuu Tab8 tablet yesterday and I'm trying to install it on my device but I'm not able to find the install option when I'm in recovery mode??
I download the manager for magisk, the zip filez I have the twrp app....but I can't figure out what to do?? Can anyone please help?I attached a pic to show my only options when in recovery.
Thanks!

That's the stock Android recovery. If you want to use a custom recovery you'll need to first install TWRP, if it's available for your device. Otherwise you'll need to get the boot image and patch that with the Magisk app before flashing it to your device.

I have the twrp app and it's still not showing up...I'm not sure what to do..?

Not the TWRP app, the TWRP recovery image. For example, on my OnePlus 5T I'd download the image from the TWRP website and then flash with
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
It's far from certain that TWRP is available for your device though.

I'm gonna check what I can do and my options here. I haven't rooted for years and I think I used that stupid kingoroot app before so I never got this deep. After I get the file, what would be my next step?

Sounds like you need to read up a bit on the basics... Search the web a bit.
How to use fastboot would be a good start, and also how to get a copy of your boot image if TWRP isn't available for your device.

TWRP 3.2.3-1 for Pixel Devices

TLDR: It's here and it may eat your data, and you will lose SuperSU root if currently installed. READ the install instructions carefully!
Pixel XL
Pixel
DO NOT RESTORE DATA FROM alpha builds of TWRP using RC1. You will probably lose all data including internal storage. If you need to restore a data backup from an alpha build, reinstall the alpha and restore using the alpha and make a new backup using RC1.
Note: Do not use if you have multiple users (including a guest user)
File Based Encryption (FBE) can be a bit tricky. If a restore doesn't work correctly, it can trigger an automatic wipe of your data. Sometimes TWRP will fail to prompt you to enter your password or otherwise fail to set up decrypt properly. If this happens, reboot TWRP. It seems to be some kind of timing issue and I haven't had time to track it down yet.
Pixel devices have 2 "slots" for ROMs / firmware. TWRP will detect whichever slot is currently active and use that slot for backup AND restore. There are buttons on the reboot page and under backup -> options to change slots. Changing the active slot will cause TWRP to switch which slot that TWRP is backing up or restoring. You can make a backup of slot A, switch to B, then restore the backup which will restore the backup of A to slot B. Changing the slot in TWRP also tells the bootloader to boot that slot.
The zip install method installs TWRP to both slots.
Installation:
If you already have TWRP installed: Download the latest zip and install the zip using TWRP.
If you do not already have TWRP installed: Download both the img and the zip. Copy the zip to your device. You will need to have fastboot binaries and the correct drivers installed. Power off your device completely. Hold volume down and turn on the device. Your device should now be in the bootloader. Connect the device to your PC. Open a command window and run the following command from the proper location:
fastboot boot path/to/twrp.img
This will temporarily boot TWRP on your device. If you are using a lockscreen pin/pattern/password and do not get prompted to enter your passord, reboot to the bootloader and try again. Go to install and browse to the zip and install the zip. If you are currently rooted with SuperSU, you will need to reflash the stock boot image before installing TWRP. After installing the stock boot image, follow the instructions for installing TWRP. Once TWRP is installed, grab the very latest SuperSU released on 2015-11-15 or later and install SuperSU.
If you accidently flash TWRP to your device using fastboot instead of temporarily booting the image, you will need to download the latest factory image for your device and reflash the boot image.
NOTE about 3.2.1-0: This version will decrypt Android 8.1, however the new image is built in Android 8.1 and may not be compatible with SuperSU and/or Magisk until they update their stuff. I have not tested. Good luck.
3.2.1-1 has working decrypt with the February security patch!
3.2.1-2 fixes some zip install errors
3.2.3-1 supports decrypting Android 9.0 Pie even with a pin / pattern / password set
How to install SuperSU SR5 on TWRP RC1: In TWRP tap on Advanced -> File Manager and scroll to and select the fstab.marlin or fstab.sailfish file and then delete it.
Amazing work sir! I think this is what we've all been waiting for! I mean I know I've been checking here frequently, hoping for this
Wow and so it begins, great work thanks!
Thanks

No I haven't downloaded anything yet. Not going to until I can have supersu alongside twrp.
Why does installation of this remove SuperSU?
Aren't they supposed to be used side-by-side?
And it also warns not to install if expecting important calls.
Does it prevent the phone apps from operating or what?
I understand everything else.

"In other words, Chainfire's systemless root method modifies the same binary that TWRP needs to modify in order to get data decryption working. Therefore, when you flash TWRP you are overwriting the changes made to the init binary by Chainfire's systemless root method. While this is a minor setback, thanks to the dual partition nature of the Pixel (and future devices shipping with Nougat), TWRP has some nifty new capabilities."
I'm pretty sure he's just saying dont chance something going wrong like it bootlooping or wiping data if you need your phone for something important like a phone call. Tough to answer said phonecall in a boot loop.

I finally got passed that issue. I had to flash factory images and erase everything to the point of being at setup screen. I didn't set anything up, no network or wifi, skipped Google sign in, no password and also no Google functions activated. This led to an unencrypted setup, so after turning on dev settings and Android debugging I booted up the image. Now my issue is the zip to install twrp for sailfish is corrupt and if you try to unzip it there are no files in it....I downloaded the marline zip and there are files when unzipped....

Recovery vs eRecovery

Hi there.
I have been flashing ROMS since ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) but for the last 18 months I have been a bit disconnected from it.
I am also new to everything Huawei.
I find a lot of times people referring to the eRecovery.
Where does this terminology (eRecovery) differ from the normal recovery, be it stock recovery or TWRP?
Is this eRecovery a Huawei thing or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.
It is nothing to really worry or even think about. I don't think you can get rid of it or even if you could there is no reason. It's just second recovery which does a different things than the normal stock recovery. I think the eRcovery is needed for the stock update, but normal recovery isn't(not completely sure about this).
It is just good to know that device also has eRecovery, because there are some users who install TWRP and then they boot to eRecovery and then they think the TWRP installation failed.
I don't know is it just huawei thing.
Hope this helps a bit, even though it's a bit messy info.

Thanks for the information.
It has definitely given me a much better idea regarding what is eRecovery.
Much appreciated.
it's basically useless on this phone. it will never fetch any package nor restore your device. most people either just keep it and dont bother using it or flash TWRP over it. by having stock recovery as 'recovery' and TWRP as 'recovery2' you can have access to official OTA updates yet still being able to do everything you could do with TWRP

Keeping both recoveries and not loosing OTA sounds good to me.
Have you any idea how to accomplish this please? Any link or for that matter where could I download stock recovery for PRA-LX1?
Thank you!

Hello! My Y9 2018 FLA-LX3 uses fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk for TWRP, but it removes stock recovery. Can I flash TWRP to the recovery2/erecovery slot? And if so, what is the command? Yes, you can flash TWRP over eRecovery.
Since A8 and above you can not install TWRP over eRecovery from fastboot, only from TWRP:
- Copy TWRP file to the SD card
- Boot in TWRP, select storage - SD Card, select "Install image", find TWRP file and mark eRecovery, swipe.
- reboot .

And what's stopping you from installing TWRP instead of eRecovery and then installing Recovery back?
No matter what your ideal solution is, this is the only way.
Okay. So, I can an have tried to install TWRP just normally using fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img That works, but the issue is that I can't find the stock/original recovery.img to replace it with when I'm finished. I extracted the UPDATE.APP and found a recovery_ramdisk.img. I am kinda scared to try to flash it using the same command for twrp, so I haven-t tried it. Can u pls tell me if I shall do it So in theory, fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img
Oh and FYI, that image was extracted from a working UPDATE.app I used for my particular phone and it has always worked, just that it restores EVERYTHING. I just want the recovery back when I finish with TWRP. I-m giving it away and dont want the new owners messing with TWRP, since it can do harm to the phone if misused. Thx!!!

Magisk 14 News

Wow no need for custom recovery...
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...hout-root-installing-without-custom-recovery/
@ultramag69 Maybe he doesn't follow Magisk closely? I know I don't. Magisk is only on used my stepmom's OP3T H2OS (which I update but don't look at the change log since it's only there in case I need it in the future), the other 2 phones I support don't use Magisk they use LOS su add-on. Not everyone who uses root cares about all the bloated/"nifty" features that come out, some just want plain old root.
I only use for root too but every so often I open magisk manager as it updates both the manager app and magisk itself....
It's done that for ages... The only one I found that didn't was 13.1, that one needed TWRP.
I'm letting people know that with 14 they can keep stock recovery and take OTAs

I have had stock recovery on more than one without having to reflash recovery with custom one .
If you use fastboot to flash the recovery, Instead of replacing with TWRP, you can use the command "fastboot boot TWRP.img" (TWRP.img being the name of the TWRP image you have such as twrp-3.1.1-0-oneplus5.img) , this will just boot you into TWRP where you can flash SuperSU or Magisk as you please but will revert back to stock recovery once you boot again while retaining root.

What you're supposed to do is make a backup of your boot partition any time you update your rom. So if you didn't do that then you can dirty flash your current Rom and that would give you the stock boot.img and again, go into recovery and make a backup of your boot partition. then if you want to flash a custom kernel you can.
Help the noobs
Would any of you more experienced guys please post a step-by-step of how to do it?
From what Eric214 wrote I still don't understand where (or how) to get a copy of the stock_boot.img.
If you get the copy of the stock boot image, is it possible to do it without unlocking the bootloader?
I already installed everything before reading how to root - stupid me, and don't want to reinstall everything.

[UNOFFICIAL] [RECOVERY] [OnePlus 6T] OrangeFox Recovery Project [R10.1]

Is this confirmed working for the 6T? Just asking since I only see a IMG file and no installer. Also Orange Fox Recovery is commonly only used by Xiaomeme devices and has some MIUI Specific Features. Won't that interfere with out Devices?
How to install the recovery I followed the directions it won't boot into the recovery
Nice work! Looks cool
Just to clarify (thanks to Mauro for making us lazy with his installers ) I haven't ever installed an img on an A/B device so it seems obvious that we should choose "Install Recovery Ramdisk" as the target partition, However I'm unsure because I know there is not a dedicated recovery partition on our A/B device and I know this is not TWRP. So could "Boot" be the target partition? Isn't the recovery image integrated into the boot partition on these phones?

Your present instructions will lead to many post reporting bricked or non functional devices.
There is no recovery partition on our phone, only a boot one
If you fastboot flash the. img file it will overwrite the regular boot partition. You must perform a temporary boot by using fastboot boot twrp.img then install twrp, By either specifying clearly to 'install ramdisk recovery' either providing a regular zip installer file.
The other complication is that on some versions of OOS fastboot boot command is broken. So you must specify to have OOS 10.3.0 or eventually a custom ROM ?
Install via the "Recovery Ramdisk" Option doesn't work AT ALL! I just soft-bricked my phone twice now.
The opening post makes me think that Dev doesn't own a OP6T

Okay I've just undoubtedly confirmed that this recovery.img does not even 'fastboot boot'...at least as far as OOS 10.3.1 is concerned. So I advise against use unless you're prepared to hook up to your PC and use fastboot to restore your boot partition.
Hi there, i'm not a developer or anything. But I can't figure this recovery out, i tried it on 10.3.0 and 9.0.17 and it wouldn't work. I tried everything: fastboot boot, fastboot flash boot and install on recovery ram disk. I also tried booting it with from a full wiped op6t, i'm pretty sure this .img doesn't work. I due hope that this recovery is coming to op6t. it's bin a long time since there's bin a new good working recovery. I'm looking forward to it dev!
This does not work for OP6T as of right now. I use Orange Fox recovery on my Redmi Note 7 so I'm familiar with installing it but instructions and/or the way this img is built is incorrect.
Do not try this recovery, for now, it doesn't work, period.

Spookybear got the links for dumpling and fajita mixed. The correct files for OnePlus 6T are in the OnePlus 5T thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...nofficial-orangefox-recovery-project-t4041781
Do not flash these. he put dumpling under fajita and fajita under dumpling. Wait for him to fix this.
Edit: the zip will protect you, the .img will not. Meaning the zip will error
So now this is very confusing... The original img file was labeled Fajita and it was not the correct one and now the OP's been updated to show Dumpling files and the Fajita labeled files are in another thread.
So which is it? Are the Dumpling named files misnamed Fajita files? Or are the Dumpling files actually Dumpling files?

So you mean that the correct files we need to flash are the Dumpling ones. But we can only flash the image because the ZIP won't work as it's checking for Dumpling?

Not sure if you are referring only to the recovery image (I didn't usually saw it available to download it though), or to the ROM, to be flashed through it.
If you say for the PE recovery image, you have to boot to it, using fastboot, and then from PE recovery, flash it onto the ramdisk and reboot again to recovery to be sure you get it.

If you say for the PE recovery image, you have to boot to it, using fastboot, and then from PE recovery, flash it onto the ramdisk and reboot again to recovery to be sure you get it.

Here is the link to img file and the rom. https://download.pixelexperience.org/spes
And already tried it using fastboot, still going to miui recovery.
Is it because i install it on boot_a instead to boot_b ?

Firstly, you can't install it using fastboot, you should need, to boot to it, only.
And from the PE recovery screen, you should need to flash it on the ramdisk, not sure if this option is available, as it has limited options, in this case, if not, you'd need to boot (and probably flash) TWRP, and from there, flash the PE recovery image onto the ramdisk.
And for the next, an image you need to flash using fastboot (not available for recovery) you donĀ“t need to target to any slot, unless you have a good reason, because the flashing process is done in the active slot.
I still have the same problem.
Any solution?
I have this same issue, I at least think. Here's where I'm at.
I downloaded the build and the recovery image for Pixel Experience, specified for my device. I got as far as to use "fastboot flash boot PixelExperience.img" onto the device.
The phone is now unable to reboot, and the OS stops responding whenever I do anything with it. I can't reboot to recovery, or reboot at all. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to wait, and for how long?
I followed the directions on the Pixel Experience website found here:
