Help with redmi 8, cannot flash because locked - Xiaomi Redmi 8 Questions & Answers

Good afternoon fellows,
I seek your help for the next issue. Long story short, a partner from my work asked me if i could help her with her Redmi 8 (she told me that his son found it somewhere on the street), the device was locked by the mi account and frp from google. Looking for tutorials and such i finally could by pass both of them but i think i messed up something.
now the phone opens normally but the wifi won't connect and the sim card is in "just for emergency calls". I have tried to install a new rom but there is no way to flash it as (i think) is bootloader locked.
Is there a way to install a rom (i dont care if its the latest or newest) to make it usable at minimun?
thx before hand.

honesty id suggest to not go further. modern phones are pretty resilient nowadays and when you successfully bypassed the lock, the phones definitely blacklisted by xiaomi. what they shouldve done is tried their luck and go to a xiaomi service center instead. network and WIFI locking is usually a false indication, sometimes they can get within range (of a free WIFI or network restrictions) and track through GPS. it was probably locked in the beginning because the owner ordered xiaomi/google to wipe the phone. even with legit methods (buying|giving used ETC) a millenialist without any knowledge how internet accounts work can get blocked often.
some 'unofficial' tools are malicious, ive reversed engineered a few in the past for the fun of it and found 'sketchy' stuff behind the scenes. i havent tried any xiaomi tools so i cant call out theit methods.
and from a parents POV, theyre definitely in the wrong. what if the old owner successfully tracked the phone back to you guys?

Bootloader unlock - thoughts on other options

So I got my new phone a day AFTER the unlock codes went offline... I've been trying to get support to get me an unlock code, but 2 e-mails and no luck so far. I've got another 3 weeks to return my phone, which I will be doing if I can't get it unlocked by then. I never noticed how much I rely on certain root applications (AdAway for one, since it is a hosts file update that keeps bloat on my phone down and works with pretty much every app).
Some thoughts on unlocking the bootloader - is it feasible to script a fastboot oem unlock <number> that just brute forces through numbers until one works? I might try this later today.
Any methods by talking to the modem directly? (I had a phone a while ago that I could use Qualcomm's tools to directly flash with)
I'm running KingRoot right now, I'm not normally a fan of such tools and so far it's been at 1% for quite some time, so I have little hope it will actually do anything.
I wonder if it might be possible to correlate unlock codes with IMEI from previous unlocks to find a way to generate these for other IMEIs? Of course, this assumes they didn't just make a database that holds a random unlock code for each IMEI.
Hopefully I can get this figured out, I like this phone, but I came from OnePlus before and may end up sending my P20 back and looking at the OnePlus 6 instead.

Try the Blokada app, free and open source. It also uses host files, including adaway. Needs no root. Get it from their website or f droid.

Sadly, this doesn't block ads on HTTPS, things like youtube ads and such. More and more of the Internet is moving towards HTTPS, so this is starting to be a noticeable gap with Proxy/VPN adblockers. But I'll try this in the meantime, I verified YouTube ads are still present (they aren't on my phone with Adaway). Thanks for the suggestion, however.
Edit: Also, I tried AdGuard DNS and FoolDNS with the app, neither accomplished the blocking of YouTube ads.
If you do find a way to bruteforce it, by any chance, let me know. I am in the same boat, got my p20pro the day after they stopped unlocking the bootloader on request, and they are not accepting to do it trough emails

Send it back. OnePlus 6 or if you can wait, the pixel 3 will be a beast
Cracking the password may be possible? I'm in the same boat here. Got the phone the day off and emailed same day but no luck.
I really like the phone but I need root for bloatware tether and adblock etc.
In Huaweis email responses they said they cannot send an unlock code under any circumstances.
Jesus, add me in to the club of unlucky bastards [emoji53]
It looks like I am so used to using root for all my life and now this desperate situation is killing me.
Same here....
Yep same here it sucks....Got mine two days after they stopped offering the service....a couple of things to watch out for:
HCU-Client/DC Unlocker - It wont stay locked forever I think we all know that and I figure there is only a matter of time until HCU support the P20 Pro as they recently added the P20 Lite worth looking into and keeping an eye out on the above applications I've mentioned.
I spoke to someone I know who does remote unlocking according to him he can get a bootloader code for £60 so I will give him a go and post my results here. Even though I feel begrudged to pay £60 to do it.

I will gladly buy him a bootloader unlock code for 60e if that's my only option.
Ya keep us updated. I'd probably pay as well lol although that is a bit steep.
Update
Just to update everyone, I called support and explained my situation and that I would be returning the phone if I can't get the bootloader unlocked. They seemed disinterested in trying to help me. Maybe company policy is now firm on this, but if this is their answer, they've lost a customer. I will be returning the phone in 2 weeks (I left all the packaging intact and the protective films are still on the phone), unless by some miracle I can figure out how to get it unlocked before then.
I would -NEVER- buy a PC without being able to install a different OS on it, I paid (or soon to have not paid?) $800 for this device and to not be able to do with it as I please is a huge deal-breaker. I wasn't even planning on moving away from EMUI, but to know that I can't really bugs me. Hello Huawei, goodbye Huawei.
<Sorry if I seem dramatic, I'm a little sour because, I really wanted to love this phone, but alas, someone has too tight a grip and this relationship is suffocating>
I think HCU and DC unlocker will find a way to do it

Blank Service Menu/Mode, Unknown IMEI, and Undetected SIM Card.

Hello.
A friend of mine worked at a company that closed last week, and they had some demo-based Galaxy Note 8 phone that were unused. So I took one of them, and I'm now trying to make it work with my SIM Card.
I don't looks like it recognize it, phone network isn't available, IMEI is unknown, and Service Menu (that i tried to turn radio on) is blank (I accessed it trough *#0011#). I passed like 5 hours googling, but since it seems to be a very specific issue (the phone was probably locked for Demo puprposes.). I tried a custom ROM, I rooted the phone, but nothing changed.
I'm sorry if my question isn't that accurate and descriptive, got a real headache trying to find an issue tonight. Feel free to ask for precisions.
Thanks for helping, as always.
Demo units will not function as normal legally acquired devices do, no solution will work, get a really working device, xdemo units are exactly that, just for show
Changing motherboard won't do the trick ?
It will, but I would rather get a never opened device, besides, a motherboard will not be cheap

N950f-ds [galaxy note 8 exynos] - rmm state lock

Hello,
I negotiated a Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950F/DS) through a site of collective purchases in Brazil, with invoice and all the accessories.
I did all the tests in the device and I decided to buy it, because it seemed reliable.
The device already had the factory settings, but with Android 7.1.1.
I activated automatic update in order to upgrade the android to 8.0.
I received the update and installed it. When restarting the phone, I started the settings normally, I was able to configure the Samsung Account, but when I was starting the configuration of the Google account my phone blocked.
After trying several unlock passwords, I made contact with SAMSUNG which instructed me to send the device for local service.
When I arrived at the service it was verified that my device had "transport block" and who is responsible for unlocking the device is the store in which the device was purchased.
I went to the store that was described in the purchase invoice and there informed me that the store does not perform any kind of unlock or block, so I could not solve the problem.
After several discussions with Samsung and the store, it was verified that my invoice was exchanged and that it was possibly not true.
It was from there that I realized that I was deceived by the seller of the device, because when I try to contact him, my calls do not complete and he blocked me in the social networks.
The only information I have about him is his name and the phone number that should have already been discarded.
Anyway, I realized that I would have to try on my own. Because of this, I am doing this post. I apologize for the long text above before passing the technical information, I had to explain what happened, because I do not want to pass as a thief.
After doing several research I found that the lock was being triggered by RLC.apk which is located at "/system/priv-app/Rlc/Rlc.apk" in stock firmwares.
I found an instruction that guided to freeze the performance of this app with application Ice box v3.1.9.1.
I tried the instruction, but it did not work on devices with Binary 4 (which is my case). The device continues to locked.
I talked to some technicians who told me that this is a block known as SEDA_LOG or DNP 0001. There are some companies that unlock remotely, but it does not have support for Binary 4.
With rom COMBINATION I can use some applications installed by adb, even my data network works perfectly.
The IMEI is normal, unlocked, and is out of the blacklist.
Other information is that the RMM State is Lock, FRP ON, OEM LOCK ON.
Also, when the lock screen appears a few times the message "Silent Log is not allowed for commercial version, please get the EM token".
Through the Samsung Account I can make the phone ring and even locate it, but it does not unlock.
Some failed attempts:
- flash a rom from another region (the device region is ZTO, I tried O2U)
- wait 7 days for the RMM State to disappear (not disappeared, continued locked)
- freezing the RLC app
- enter several PINs to try to unlock.
- login with my samsung account on rmm.samsung.com to try to unlock rmm, but I can not access.
If anyone can help me, or can guide me in what to do, I am very grateful.
Well, if you got scammed by some nasty person, strictly talking, the device in your hands was illegaly traded, as such, here in XDA no solution will be given or support offered, sorry, these cases appear often, and the moderators usually close the threads

Lost Galaxy Note 9 Japan Docomo OS. Is there a way to track the phone by IMEI number?

Hi There,
I have lost my Galaxy Note9 Docomo SC-01L in Taxi in Japan.
Usually the Lost phones are recovered by Police and carrier within 2 to 3 days.
However, my phone is missing for a week now and no sign of Switch On. (Find my phone shows the phone is switched off)
I have temporarily terminated my Sim card services. I am considering to activate the sim services just in case someone may charge the battery and switch on the phone so that, I can send messages to handover the phone or to get access to its live location.
My Phone has strong 6 digit pin and finger & face recognition security for unlocking the screen.
My question is, in case the phone is in custody of bad person,
1. would it be possible to to flash the phone with new IMEI number.
2. would it be possible for a bad person to access my personal and bank account / electronic(NFC) payment information?
3. What precautions I should Consider to secure the data and any remote assistance to actually locate the phone encase the sim card is changed.
4. Can I track the phone only from IMEI number if bad person crack the phone and use with wifi or changed sim card?
Thanks you very much for your help in advance for being able to recover my phone.
Hey there! Sorry to hear that. I have also got my stolen some weeks ago and it's surely the worst feeling.
Have you found your phone?
Here are the brief answers for your questions:
1.Yes. With the right tool and knowledge, unfortunately, IMEI can be changed. But it is illegal in most of the countries and difficult to do. Only pretty tech people/thieves have knowledge about such things.
2. If you haven't rooted your phone, bootloader is locked and phone is password locked, no one can access your data.
3. For lost phone, I don't think you can do anything remotely unless Find My Phone is connected. For future precautions, you can make use of Cerberus apps (I'm not associated with this app). What you can only do is put IMEI into track with the help of cops (you gotta plead them).
4. If the person connects to wifi only and doesn't enter SIM card, you can't track the phone with IMEI. Only if he inserts SIM card, old IMEI is not changed (which is quite unlikely) and IMEI is on track, cops can find your phone (if they want to).
Do acknowledge my post and please tell any other potential method you know which is helpful in finding lost phone. Have a great day

SIM registration issues - hardware or software

Hi, I recently replaced a non functioning 9T Pro mainboard with a replacement which is working well in all aspects except SIM registration (the main phone function ...!) - looking through the details it looks like it's a K20 Pro from India (from Alibaba, origin not advertised) and the ROM is Indian. The SIM doesn't seem to be able to register on an Irish network. My question is whether the radio restriction is a hardware issue or is software fixable - I'd be grateful for some advice before trying to unlock the bootloader install an EU ROM, as it's difficult to get the unlock from Xiaomi without a functioning SIM for SMS OTC etc. I've tested the SIM in other phones and it registers on the network okay. I've also tried a different (known working) SIM in the problem phone, without success, which is leading me to think the issue is isolated to the phone rather than a SIM issue. It would be really helpful if I could find out whether going dow the flashing route it worthwhile or a dead-end. I've spent many hours flashing various phones over the years, trying to match ROMs etc., and know what a rabbit-hole it can be.

Hi, any takers on this query ;-) - I'd love to hear from any tinkerers who could give me a steer on whether I'm wasting my time going down the unlock / flash with correct regional variant, or if I should just write off the board / phone as being only useful for wifi rather than sim network. If someone who has treaded this path before with some success could let me know I'd be much more enthusiastic about dropping a few hours on it - I've spent many hours on flashing various devices before, and usually have less hair to show for it before I'm successful. Even if it means (as I've read in a few posts around here) that if I lock the device again on a rom that's not regionally compatible I'd be inheriting a paperweight(!), it would be nice to know that in a controlled environment the sim would work. Would be a shame really to nothing with the board as I (stupidly!) splashed out on a 8GB 256GB replacement and (surprisingly) any queries to the vendor on AliExpress have fallen on deaf ears surprisingly ...

Unlocking Bootloader usually requires to wait 7 days and during that time phone must have a proper SIM card, attched to the Mobile network.
Not sure how would you do that in your case?!
Anyway, start waiting for those 7 days, better earlier than later. If you change your mind, you simply don't unlock the Bootloader upon the 7 days of waiting pass

Yes, good idea, thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if I can kick that off / whether the sim registration issue blocks me. If anyone else has been able to verify that flashing can help regional issue with SIM registration and support bands that would be great too! Thanks.
