Tattoo ROMs/Hacking/Info Resource List (One thread to help us all!)

Before I start: If someone could sticky this, I'd appreciate it. Cheers!
I thought I'd help out and do my own thread to make a list of resources, so it's a easy ride down the road, and we're not having to hit speedbumps and look for threads ourselves. They will be under categories (Custom ROMs, Hacking, Hardware/Software Info, Misc).
Please keep this thread on-topic (discussion about this list, updating the list, etc), if you have issues carrying out anything listed here, either make a new thread with your issue or reread the instructions.
NOTE: I am not responsible for any bricked Tattoos due to user's own failure to follow instructions/people don't understand what to do and go on their own merry way and blow up their tattoo/your tattoo catches fire and explodes into a portable campfire. So, please don't sue me.
Alright, let's get down to business.
Hacking
HOWTO: Flash the Tattoo (Offical ROMs) : this thread.
Superboot & rooting the Tattoo for Custom ROMs: this thread.
Superbooting & rooting Tattoo (experimental): this thread.
Custom ROMs
Official, Untouched ROMs: this thread.
No *actual* custom ROMs have been released. Will update when some are out.
Hardware Info
India Tattoo version without 3G: this thread.
No more hardware data as of yet, will update when some data is available.
Misc Stuffs
HTC Dream/CyanogenMOD ringtones/alert tones/effects - Extract to SD Card root: this file.
Android 2.0/2.1 Confirmed for Tattoo?: this thread.
XDA Forum Users Review(s): this thread.
I hope this allows us to get our bearings on this awesome device... Let's make the Tattoo version of CyanogenMod... CoburnMOD/TatROMburn anyone?
Cheers all!
Added modaco's superboot thread to the list.
Added the flash tattoo thread link to the list.
Great threat
Hi Coburn64.
Congratulations on the threat.
We really must shake the Tattoo scenne, cause it's a little bit slow.
Count on me to help you.
Thanks
Heh, thanks. I'm just helping out, as we want the Tattoo to shine. It's a excellent unit, and I can't see why it should be swept under the carpet and forgotten.
mdusan
Well I just want to say that is a great phone. Screensize is maybe small, but I have Android 1.67 version with SenseUi and I must say that this is a very well designed phone with excellent screen resistive, and I gives you the support to develop as multiple applications for this phone.
Thanks for your review!

[Found] Enomther's TheOfficial Nexus1

I have been searching links off google and the downloads all point to the same broken link on AndroidSpin. I have managed to loose my copy of this ROM and would love to get my hands on it again.
Does anyone have this: TheOfficial_Nexus1_v2.14.4_ManupsNexTheme_update.z ip
I would greatly appreciate link to download it that isn't broken. The thread for it here also contains dead links.
69 views, not one post. lol
ok, well I finally found it in a dark corner, collecting dust.
Can you post it please, I have also given up looking for that ROM. I have been dying to try it.
here's a link. if you have any problems with the file let me know. if you have any problems with the functionality of the rom just search the forums. please do not bother tracking down enom as this ROM is no longer supported.
this file is provided "as-is" with no support stated or implied by enomther, myself, or anyone else. by downloading the following zip file you agree that you are solely responsible for any and all repercussions which come as a result of such action. this file is being provided as a replacement and not as an original creation.
now, if you understand and agree with above statement, prepare yourself for the awesomeness of enomther's genius. my all time favorite rom dev.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here is global FAQ, when needed, for device specific things, i'll redirect to the right place, same for MiniCM's specific questions.
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
You will find more precise infos in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425240Lucastan96's/sgt. meow FAQ/list (only dedicated to X8/W8!)
Q1: Why ONE only FAQ for theses 3 (4) devices ?Because theses devices have really similar hardware, and work in the same way.
x8/w8 are one device (only renamed) and is MDPI.
x10mini and minipro are LDPI the PRO has an hardware keyboard that the x10mini doesn't have. Q2: Why is there many names for theses devices? There are 3 names for each devices :
The commercial, the number, and the name used by cyanogenmod:
X8/W8 is known as e15 or Shakira
X10mini is known as e10 or Robyn
X10miniPRO is known as u20 or Mimmi Q3: Where can i find my device specific help and informations? For X8/W8 : here
There is currently no similar up-to-date thread for x10mini/pro
Q4: How to root? There are many ways, one of them for X8 are using x8toolbox, or by flashtool and with superoneclick. Q5: What is a recovery?A recovery is a small system that allows you to install roms, backup, restore, and many other things.
In order to install your first rom you will need cwm.
If you unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel cwm recovery is included so you don't need to do anything,
if you can't unlock your bootloader (or don't want) that means you are on stock kernel and you have to install it. Some ways to do it is by x8toolbox (for X8) or manually.
You may have seen the name xrecovery, this is an old and outdated recovery. Most roms need cwm and not xrecovery, you can always check the installation instructions of the rom that you want to install. Q6: How to unlock bootloader?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225 Q7: How to flash a rom?Always read the installation instructions of the rom you want to flash. They might be different from a rom to another, refer to "fresh install" if want to know more. Q8: How to revive my (soft)bricked device? For X8.
For X10mini and X10miniPRO (link pending) Q9: What is the best rom/kernel/theme/etc?This is not questio should ask, backup, try and roll back Q10: Backups, what are they?Backups are something like a picture of your current state, to which you could roll back in case of install/flash/testing failure
they helps you not to lose your settings, apps,data... but may create bug if you restore /data you used with one rom after the install of one other.
More info by stamatis. Q11: What is a "fresh install" This is when you install a new rom, after having all your data/apps deleted, that means :
in ClockWorkMod (CWM) recovery you did the following before installing :
formatting /cache, /data and /system
for a non-fresh install but to void some issue, you should
format /cache, /system and wipe dalvi-cache before installing a rom update (don't forget to install gapps too) Q12: What is a baseband and its number?Baseband is part of pre-software of your device, it allows you to connect to network and some other things
You can check your baseband number in settings>about phone.
In order to install a custom rom you MUST have the baseband ending with 015. If you don't have it then you can update with pccompanion, SEUS or flashtool by flashing the generic stock .ftf for 2.1 eclair. (take care you flash the correct stock rom specific to your device ) QXXX: Where can i find MiniCM range specific FAQ threads ?
Theses threads are for all the supported devices :
MiniCM7
MiniCM9
MiniCM10This FAQ will be filled up more later

Why camera pics are better on minicm10 than minicm7?

Probably because of the extra PMEM given to camera in CM10 (I can't tell for sure though).

Wouldn't it be better to just merge this thread and lucastan96's other thread together and include new info? I could help with that and it would be far better than having two threads to server the same purpose. Lemme know what you think about it.

i would agree with you, but in fact his thread (and my MiniCM miniFAQs too) is extremely detailed, and hard to read for people that don't know the device or is new to the forum,
the aim of this (and all others) RC-FAQ is to be short, redirecting to where further infos are, and to be standard and looking like any other RC-FAQ for easy reading:
PG101 said:
The whole idea of consistency is that we are giving out the information in a similar way and users can expect same standards across.
Many of us keep changing phones, and users will know where to find answers if they know that the FAQs follow the same format..

editing an existing FAQ to get it in the "new recommended way" is really hard, and setting up a new one is easier
this new FAQ should look like these :
galaxy mini
Xperia play
...
Cool. So let's try this.
You keep the FAQ short, while I keep mine a bit more detailed.
Users can ask questions in my thread or yours.
Your opinion on this will be appreciated.
My thread = Lucastan96's thread because he won't be around as frequently as before.

right,
i'll write at top of the post to refer to your FAQ for more precises info, this one is not meant to be precise, just to guide users
users should better ask in your FAQ for general Q, or in the MiniCM dedicated FAQs (for Q related to theses roms)
this FAQ is not a place for people to ask (in the way the RC-FAQs have been imagined)
the aim was to create a short RC-FAQ, and that each dev make one dedicated to their own roms
I will give you some suggestions, of course my post is not a guide, i leave the writing part to you, if you want me to write full answers though im willing to do it, but i guess you want the faq to have your personal touch.

Why did you add the answers exactly from my post?
You can add this as well.I think a good place is below the "How to root".
What about recovery?
In order to install your first rom you will need cwm. If you unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel cwm recovery is included so you dont need to do anything, if you can't unlock your bootloader that means you are on stock kernel and you have to install it. Some ways to do it is by x8toolbox, manualy, by flashtool(?), by the app(?) (im not 100% sure about the last two as i have never used them but i think some users have reffered that they work)
You may have seen the the name xrecovery, this is an old and outdated recovery. Most roms need cwm and not xrecovery, you can always check the installation instructions of the rom that you want to install.

because i was too lazy to complete them
and the answers need to be shorter as possible, and if needed redirecting to sgt. meow's FAQ/guide or MiniCM miniFAQ
Just thought of another one
What is the right baseband number?
You can check your baseband number at settings>about phone.
In order to install a custom rom you MUST have the baseband ending with 015. If you don't have it then you can update with pccompanion or flashtool by flashing the generic stock ftf for 2.1 eclair.

I guess that you need to learn to read then? I know the search engine is down at the moment, but that shouldn't stop you finding the Index and reading some of the highlighted threads listed in there.

He coughs, while still failing to provide aforementioned guidance
Ok here goes:
Use the toolbox.
Follow the instructions to the damn letter, nobody but you is responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
Unlock your bootloader, get CWM or TWRP recovery on it ( I prefer CWM but it's pretty much personal preference. )
After you complete these 2 steps, flashing new ROMs and kernels becomes a trivial process.
Once you get that done, copy the latest Vanir build (and optionally; GAPPS package) to your internal or external card, boot into recovery by holding volume down and power button until the LG logo comes up, then let go.
First, wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache.
Choose install zip from SD card, then choose sd card or external sd card depending on where you put it, navigate to the folder and select it, flash it.
Follow the same procedure for the GAPPS package.
Press back until you hit the main menu, and select reboot system.
It will take longer to boot for the first time, it speeds up after that.
Congratulations, you should now be running Vanir.

The OP has been a member for almost as long as you have. I treated him with courtesy and was polite. The best thing we can do with new members is make them search and read so that they understand what they need to do and why.
When I joined I didn't ask stupid questions - I searched, read and learnt because with my HTC DS if I got it wrong I would have hard-bricked the phone and not been able to fix it.
XDA is not a helpdesk for noobs, that needs to be remembered in the middle of all the social correctness that is now going on. If people are too lazy to try and help themselves they deserve nothing, just as in real life.

Will request for the thread to be closed as issue is solved and the tutorial is clear for other members to use when they search!

Before you try to get this thread closed I feel the need to reply to the arrogant tossers who feel they have a right to ignore the rules. By my reckoning Rule # 1 of the XDA Forum Rules beats #2.5
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.

This place is becoming full of people who claim to have searched - when they simply have NOT. If they can't afford to risk their phone because they need it every day then they should either be certain what they need to do - through searching, reading and learning - or they should not risk their phone.
I repeat "XDA is NOT a helpdesk for noobs". For the OP to tell me to "learn how to respect people" - what does he think I have done over the last couple of years? The answer to his question was out there simple to find if the OP wasn't so lazy. If he doesn't have time to search and read then the same basic rule applies - he doesn't have the time to risk damaging his phone.
FFS people - it's not rocket science and it's not difficult. We don't need yet another tutorial for people to read - because they will continue to be lazy and refuse to search and read. In 6 months time you will still be replying to the same basic questions just because human nature dictates that 90% of the members who sign up here expect to be given the answers without having to do any work themselves.

1) Reported for WHAT exactly?
2) I'm 2.5 times your age - so you might wish to reconsider and redefine some of your terms of reference.
3) Using big red letters doesn't make you look any more impressive.
4) FWIW I don't actually have a problem with you - other than the fact that you seem to be determined to assist in this stupid belief that anybody should simply be able to sign up to this site, ask stupid questions without bothering to help themselves, and not contribute anything at all. You seem to be intelligent, switched-on and a lot better at developing than I have ever been.
