I ordered my phone from Giztop (Gizmodo's sister site) but in your case, you're probably looking for something like GearBest. The pool has kind of dried for them to the U.S. Xiaomi has stopped selling directly to the U.S due to a "ban" here. It's kind of a weird ordeal.
On that note, it is a pain to use Xiaomi devices in the U.S now because they don't add the important cellular bands that are needed for here because the devices aren't meant for the U.S market. I'm not just talking about CDMA bands, I mean GSM Bands as well. I've been using Mint Mobile on my Mi 11 but funnily enough, T-Mobile doesn't support the Mi 11(the network Mint Mobile uses). It is only missing the B71 band (4G) and only supports one 5G band on GSM, then missing just one (B13) for 4G with the same 5G support of 1 of 5 bands for CDMA -- but that's enough to have the majority of carriers not support the device AND leave you with no signal if you're not in a big city.

Any problem in Europe, like @iamrance.asa said, it's only a USA problem.

[Q] Convert US to Global version?

Hi guys,
I am from Europe and lost my Smartphone on a holiday in the US. So I went to bestbuy and bought a Moto G 2nd unlocked. I told the lady I am from Europe and need it to work in Europe. Nevertheless now back at home i found out she sold me the US version instead of the Global one and i get no 3g connection here in Austria. (yeah they had both versions at stock for the same price, but now its to late)
So is there any possibility i can get my XT1064 (US version) to XT1063 (Global) by flashing ROMs or anything else? Or are the phones different in terms of hardware and I have now a nearly useless phone here in Austria while being without wifi coverage?
Thanks for any information
Daniel
I'm curious about this also as I'm planning on traveling in EU. From what I've gathered it would be a no on 3G.I would guess it is going to be a hardware problem since the US version does not feature 2100 MHz data.

Yeah thats the exact problem. I do not get a 3G signal cause the US version misses the 2100 MHz band, so in Europe you just are able to use EDGE as a maximum with the US version
I'm guessing that it's only returnable in store if returnable at all. If it's that new you could go the Ebay route and offer a good discount. It may sell fairly quickly, especially with the prices some of those sellers ask.

Sending stuff from Europe to the US is a pain *****, since US authorities check everything. So yeah, i just have to stick with i wasted 190 bucks on a wifi internet only phone
That's probably why it took a month to get a pineapple corer I ordered. It sat in NY for 3 weeks. You can never be too careful with those pineapple corers.

AT&T in the U.S.?

I would like to import this to the US and use it on Straight Talk (AT&T). To me it looks like it has the right bands to work on AT&T, but there are a lot smarter people here than I.
What do you think?

Yep will work.
AT&T is using 850/1900 mhz and Mi Note pro also supporting this band.
LTE not compatible
I just found this out:
AT&T LTE uses Band 17 ( 700Mhz), Band 5 (850Mhz), Band 2 (1900Mhz), Band 4 (1700/2100Mhz)
Mi Note Pro LTE bands: LTE band 3 (1800 Mhz), 7 (2600 Mhz)
Summary: AT&T uses Bands 2,4,5,17 where this phone only has Bands 3 and 7 for LTE.
Xiaomi mi note pro can not work with AT&T in the USA.
This phone will only work in Europe and Asia.

If I am not mistaken, the device should work in the U.S., just not on U.S. LTE. It doesn't support any U.S. carrier's LTE bands
I live in the States and I wanted to know can I get the Note Pro for the price they have it for in China (2299 yuan's) which is actually like $337 in U.S. dollars. Sites like oppomart.com and honorbuy.com have it for like $600 plus in U.S. dollars which I get because they have to make their money also. I checked the mi.com site and I can get it but one my appointment, any suggestions?

I think you got it wrong the Mi Note Pro costs 3229 yuan. 3299 Chinese Yuan equals 532.31 US Dollar.
The device you were probably looking at is the Mi Note 16GB which costs 2299 yuan. Mi Note 64GB is 2799 yuan.

So does anyone have this phone on US AT&T yet? Just curious what type of 3G speeds it will get.

I have the Xiaomi mi note pro and I can confirm that it can be used in the US on the ATT network. I am using it with Straight talk on ATT's towers. As mentioned earlier, it does not support LTE in the US, only HSPA+, which is plenty fast enough for me.

Did you have to install any drivers so your laptop or desktop could be able to recognize your device?
No additional drivers were needed on Windows 8.1 professional.
Just worked on Linux.

Just out of curiosity where did you purchased your MiNote Pro? There are sites that have it for $600 or more. I know the price for it for Chinese residents is substantially cheaper. Any way i can get it for the price it is in China? I'm assuming i can on that mi.com website but I'm not sure.

I got mine from oppomart.com. I would post a link to the product page but I am not allowed until I have 10 posts. It's easy enough to find in a google search.
It wouldn't make sense to expect to pay the same price as those in China if it has to be imported. Even still, $600 is cheaper than most domestic unlocked flagship phones such as Samsung, HTC, Sony, etc...

Yes.
From a quick google search; "Import duty and taxes are due when importing goods into the United States whether by a private individual or a commercial entity. The valuation method is FOB (Free on Board), which means that the import duty and taxes payable are calculated exclusively on the value of the imported goods. However, some duties are based part in value and part in quantity. In addition to duty, imports may be subject to a Merchandise Processing Fee, and in some cases to sales tax, and Federal Excise Tax."
Some sellers will claim a low declared value in order to avoid the seller having to pay customs taxes, but if your package is opened and inspected by customs and found to be of more value than what was declared, then they will force you to pay their taxes. In addition, international shipping costs are also higher.

ebay has the Zuk Z1 for sale

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ZUK-...M-Quad-Core-/271983509715?hash=item3f537b00d3
here is one for $303 shipped
says it is running Cyanogenmod 12 so this should be what we all want...
anyone willing to take the plunge?
Eh actually no, that's the Chinese one with cm 12.1 preview flashed into it, is useless in the USA since the LTE bands are not supported, the international version should come out the 15th and should support the LTE bands used in USA/ Canada/ Americas

I received an update from ZUK Sales department claiming that Chinese and "International" bands are identical. Only difference is the software.
Btw, for EU customers: Zuk also told me that tomorrow, this link will be alive and phones are shipped within EU: http://www.ebay.es/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=291548699419
Then it's useless in USA, that's really dumb releasing a phone without LTE, that's a major deal breaker.
Also Tomtop is a Chinese store that imports to USA and other countries, what they sell is the Chinese version.

Will U.S. Amazon site get INT'L Xperia X Perf at the same time as other countries???

I know the int'l version will get released before the U.S. version, but can anyone say if they've heard or seen that the U.S. Amazon site will get them at that time or later??

kms,
Hmm interesting........ I have NO desire for the dual-SIM, HOWEVER.......... if the dual-sim version comes with VoLTE, then I will most certainly be interested in it!! I found out that, at least with my carrier (T-Mobile, I live in the Chicago area in the U.S.), even though the XP has Band 12/700 MHz capability, because it doesn't have VoLTE (single-sim), it WILL NOT be able to utilize Band 12 for voice during phone calls, only the data portion can be used on Band 12 during a call. But with VoLTE, I'd be able to use Band 12 for voice too............which is important because my area is going to have it very soon! Band 12/700 MHz spectrum is very valuable b/c it can penetrate buildings much better than the higher bandwidths can, which means BETTER reception while indoors! :victory: Right now it doesn't matter, but in 6-8 months when we WILL have it, it will.
2 questions:
1) Are YOU getting your dual-sim version of the XP from Expansys HK?
2) The 16th? As in JUNE 16th kms??!!

I'm still considering the X or XP, The X will be available on the 7th whiles the XP is on the 16th, I think I heard the shop say this, but can't confirm yet, but it is before mid of this month for both.
If I do get one it will be from a local chain store in Hong Kong, that way I can inspect the unit before hand for scratches, dead pixels and other cosmetic defect or problem, HK only has the dual sim version, the second sim is a hybrid sim/micro sd, but that isn't a problem as I can get them both working together.
Once either one is released I can check for you, about the VoLTE, but cannot check the bands.
Initial finding of the bands for XP and X are:
LTE FDD 700/800/850900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600
LTE TDD 1900/2300/2500/2600
WCDMA 800/850/900/1700/1900/2100

kms,
Yeah I've already confirmed the XP has Band 12/700 MHz capability, so don't worry about that. But getting a version of the XP that HAS VoLTE would be VERY important to me! I HATE it when other people around me can get reception indoors but I can't (it doesn't happen often, but it does happen). Having VoLTE would most likely eliminate this from happening the majority (if not ALL) the time.
That's fine. The one from the store will be the same as the dual-sim one from Expansys HK anyway.
So THIS month?!! :good::victory: That's f'ing awesome!!! Yeah we won't get the the single-sim XP here in the U.S. 'til I dunno, early to mid July? So even if I have to pay more for dual-sim, to have it extra early and WITH VoLTE would be extraordinary!! Man I REALLY HOPE the dual-SIM version of the XP has VoLTE!
Ok so say it does have it...........is there any reason to think it might not work here in the U.S. kms??!

HK expansys is likely to get the Hong Kong version, it's also a 64GB version, the only reason for not working in the US is the band, the band is 700, but there are various version of the 700 band, so not sure if this is the band 12.

Ughh you're right about the dual-sim one having 64 GBs! I don't need the 64GB version, like I don't need the extra SIM slot lol, but F it, whatever. IF this f'ing phone ACTUALLY has VoLTE on it, then I'll buy it. FML lol
Well wait a minute. There's a Hong Kong version? I don't think so kms..........the single-sim one I pre-ordered from Expansys US is the INTERNATIONAL version. So I think the one you guys are getting will be the INTERNATIONAL version kms, but it'll be sold there in HK. Both the single and dual SIM versions of the XP (F8131 & F8132) have Band 12/700 MHz. So I don't see why it would be any different here vs. in Hong Kong to be honest with you.

You mean the single-sim one I pre-ordered, that it IS in fact the international version?? If so, I've already confirmed that with Expansys US. They told me they only sell the int'l version of phones UNLESS otherwise noted. Here is a copy & paste of their e-mailed response to me on that topic:
This would be the international version, please let us know if you have any other questions.

So kms, if that's what they sell, then the dual-SIM (F8132) model YOU'RE getting will also be int'l, so it will come with Band 12/700 MHz capability on it as well, which that page I linked you earlier confirmed. What I don't get is why the F8132 would have VoLTE on it but the single-sim F8131 wouldn't? But if your prediction is true, then I don't give a sh*t. lol I just want that f'ing phone!! lol

Ok.
So what do you think MGS? Get the XP with the best camera but can't utilize Band 12 for voice on a call (so can't benefit from its improved indoor reception advantage) & no HD Voice, or get the HTC 10 which still has a very good camera and has the Band 12/VoLTE/HD Voice advantage? Tough choice, for me anyway.

Ethically I'd say htc 10 as htc wants your money as they listen to their fans for the most part and go the extra mile supporting all carrier features. On the other hand I'm a big sony fan and enjoy the value of their hardware but let's be honest sony really doesn't care about us. They force us to buy international versions to get full features and gimp us phones without giving us legitimate reasoning. Have you ever talked to sony mobile support they are as clueless as we are.

They force us to buy international versions to get full features and gimp us phones without giving us legitimate reasoning. Have you ever talked to sony mobile support they are as clueless as we are.

You make some valid points MGS.
The fact that HTC STILL sells their phones through all the major carriers is an advantage all its own. I can go onto T-Mobile's website and buy the HTC 10 RIGHT NOW if I wanted to.
Yeah I mean, I can't lie, I love Sony's Xperia phones the most. But I am at wit's end here with all this hassle I have to go through to buy the d*mn thing, and then in dealing with the BS that comes with the actual phone. The int'l version is cheaper (yet better) and is coming out sooner than the U.S. version, so I don't really care about that. But this VoLTE thing really p's me off cuz I won't get the BEST reception with it even though I really should. Plus having to buy it unlocked is dumb too.
Oh dude, JUST the other day I spoke to them. They LITERALLY know nothing more about why the supreme morons that run that company do what they do than we do. Is it really THAT hard to get the phone certified? I mean, if you're not gonna offer people the chance to pay for it on a monthly basis (like carriers do) interest-free, and not release it on time (f'ing July??!), the LEAST you could do is go that extra mile and get the d*mn thing certified for VoLTE and HD Voice too.
So your answer is HTC 10 or XP? lol

Question Pixel 5A Question - AUS to US

Just broke my loathsome old Note 9 and need to upgrade. Have my eye on a 5a but I'm looking to emigrate to the US from Aus in the next few months and I was wondering if it would be compatible on US networks. It'll be unlocked.
I would think here it depends on the carrier, mine works on T-Mobile the only carrier here worth a ****, I'd just check with whatever carrier you plan on mate. It's a great phone for the $ I love mine.
this website will probably help answer a lot of questions
Will Google Pixel 5a work in Australia?
In this page we are going to show you the compatibility of Google Pixel 5a with the mobile networks of Australia and with the telephony operators that provide service in Australia.

you can change countries and phones to check to see what phone works where.
At least initially the 5a was only sold in the U.S. and Japan, so it works in those countries. If it works in Oz and you can get one there you will be happy here. I second the recommendation for T-mobile as a network provider. They were the first to bin the required 2 year contract with phone upgrade; their plans are very flexible. If you are looking for an economy provider then consider Metro, which is the economy label for T-mobile and uses their network. T-mobile has a pretty extensive 5G network.
