General Android 12 Beta - Google Pixel 5a

Just wanted to start a thread to track when the beta is made available for our Pixel 5a.

Has anyone tried flashing a GSI build our Pixel 4a 5g or Pixel 5 to their 5a 5g?

Did you read my mind I'm thinking of doing it?! Technically it is covered under warranty and they didn't tell us they didn't have a 5A build for us those of us who sold our 4A 5G on swappa?!

Let me know how it goes. I'm considering doing a 4a 5g flash since it has such similar hardware.

Didn't fly....system wouldn't let me pull the beta builds for the 4a(5G) at all! On the bright side, I don't have a bricked device, either?!

P.S. I like the case that came with ($29) better than the fabric gimmick.

Let us know if you get magisk to work with the beta of Android 12! Thanks!

You can get Magisk to work on Android 12... You need to reinstall Android 12 with a mandatory wipe as far as I could figure. Basically install it via the Android Flash Tool/web interface. Choose Advanced install, Disable Verity, Disable Verification. Once that is installed... installing magisk follows a normal procedure. More detailed guide here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-flash-magisk-on-android-12.4242959/

It patches the same way as android 11.....you patch the boot.img. It's pretty easy.

The easiest way to root doesn't even require patching with magisk. Take the magisk.apk file and change the extension to zip making it magisk.zip. Download the lineage-recovery from below and put in your adb tools folder. https://sourceforge.net/projects/aleasto-lineageos/files/LineageOS 18.1/barbet/
Reboot to bootloader and fastboot boot lineage-recovery.img Credits go to that developer for that recovery. When in recovery, select apply update then select adb sideload, then type the following command in cmd,. adb sideload magisk.zip Reboot phone and you will be rooted. This will work with every new update, avoiding to having to patch every new boot.img with magisk.

I just installed the update from the link he provided and it worked just fine. Came from the latest build for the Pure X. All you have to do is download it and sideload it via adb. Google Sideload update if you are not sure how and there are a lot of tutorials up.

I'm currently updating via recovery...I'll run the test for you once I get booted up...It's taking a while to flash the zip.
FYI, If you can't get ADB to work (like myself), you can update your phone with this OTA.zip via stock recovery. Once you get to the android guy laying on its back, hold power and then press volume up to get all the recovery options. From there you can choose "update from sdcard."
Can you post MD5 checksum?
@tjarvis did you receive this ota directly on your phone? Trying not to get stuck in a situation where I have to revert back to a stock image to upgrade to the official update. Release notes indicate this is probably not the official build that will be released to the public since version numbers differ.

Moto G9 Play bricked by booting wrong twrp?

Hello forum, if someone could help me finding out, whether I bricked my device doing a pat step, or if it's still possible to recover it, I'd be most glad!
After unlocking the bootloader, it might be, I did a wrong step restarting too soon or something, or trying to boot into a wrong twrp-version. Actually I don't remember each step, as this happened a few months ago...
Thank you for now,
draftflash
if you still can, boot into fastboot and on your pc type
fastboot -w reboot.
if it doesn't work then consider using this firmware updater https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-stock-rom-for-xt2083-reteu.4214883/

ouh, don't think so. I choose it for being said to be a bit lighter. But I am thinking of changing back to LineageOS for /e/ is a bit too close to conventional ROMs, regarding the user surface. But actually I don't know the newer versions of LineageOS.

I dont know if it is available, but for another phone I´ve tried dotOS and was pretty nice, at least on the surface, didn´t dig too deep inside the OS but it seems like a good option, also it has optimization in its DNA

You don't need the stock boot img to update. Just do a local update, DON'T reboot, tap install magisk, select "install to inactive slot", tap ok, reboot

Don't think it's because of 23001. I always had this option, in 23000 it was there too.
Maybe because I'm on canary?

I'm on stable and it's there. Weird
I noticed it's asking me to install OTA version 10.0.10.10 on my Verizon 8T. however I cannot seem to locate a FULL download of this to upgrade. I don't change a lot on my device, I have always just ran TWRP, MAGISK & the Stock ROM with minor changes. This is my daily driver & therefore very important it's STABLE & WORKING. Not "surprise, your GPS or WiFi doesn't work now" or boot looped for 9 hours & requires a wipe, & all such things as that....
My question is, two part:
Do I still need to be seeking a Full copy of the ROM? Or is there a good way to apply those incremental OTA updates another way? Can I download, apply locally, (don't reboot) flash TWRP/MAGISK to other slot, & it work ok? Or is that risky?
Secondly,
Is there anyway to apply the security updates independently from the ROM? I like having the latest security patch but don't necessarily always want to jump on every single OTA.
AS ALWAYS, THANK YOU guys for all that you do for the community & any info you can offer. I promise, I did try to read to find this out for an hour without luck before posting. lol.

1. There is a method to apply small incremental OTAs, but applying full OTA, i reckon is safer as it overwrites files during installation and not patches only necessary ones.
2. In OOS settings (Security and Lock Screen) there are two options, for checking of security updates.

Question Lineage 20 for Pixel 7 - Panther

Ok guys per request i will post my personal Pixel 7 lineage rom . Is update to december and it has the minimal gapps built inline . I will call it Beta but all i use daily is working for me . I know face unlock is not working because never add the commits . It wont pass the safety net unless rooted but again i dont use it , also all apps from play-store are working . Maybe will update maybe not will see . Cheetah is booting too but apps is force close and cant fix now because i dont got the device . So please dont ask a lot of questions ! Installing is simple , be on December , wipe factory default from recovery and fastboot update the name.zip .

I don't want to do a full wipe. It would be nice to have a ROM like the one from November, which you can simply install in recovery. Too bad it probably won't be available any time soon.

Will update tonight .
Updated to January ........
I appreciate the work! I've downloaded your updated build, bootloader is unlocked & ready to flash,,, Just not sure how to flash it (I'm good at following directions). I really haven't done much flashing since the Galaxy S5 & S6, and that was with Odin. I'm guessing with the Pixel 7 it's done with some fastboot commands and pretty simple, just don't know the procedure.

[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][cheetah/panther] LineageOS 20.0 for the Pixel 7 Pro/7
LineageOS 20.0 for the Pixel 7 Pro (cheetah) and Pixel 7 (panther). Known issues: NOTE: This is an early-stage build, and may not be the most stable. It works fine for me as a daily driver on a Pixel 7 (panther), however. The status bar is...

*EDIT" Just tap power & up keys for half a second. I was long pressing them.
How do I boot into recovery from fastboot? I can select " Recovery mode" but it boots a dead android and under it says "no command" . I'm just doing a dry run, I don't feel like bricking my phone. I'm stuck on step "8." of the link you sent.
