Nokia 9 Pure View poor software performance - Nokia 9 PureView Questions & Answers

I have been using Nokia 9 Pure View for 2 years now. Currently my smartphone is running Android 11 software, and I see the phone lagging more and more. It gets worse and worse with each update. It seems that in this way the manufacturer artificially ages the smartphone. The Nokia 9 Purview ran best with Android 9 Oreo. An already dead battery is also a problem. I will be replacing it nibbly as I already have a new one. I checked that voltage at 60% is 3.55V, it should be 3.85V. Can this cause the smartphone to hang up? Can replacing the battery heal this phone or maybe a software downgrade? The question is will all apps work then? I would like to change the software because the video stablization does not work as in the beginning, the video after stablization is still shaky, the photo quality is also definitely worse. What do you recommend?

Replacing the battery for the new original one will fix the camera issues.
Can you tell us how can you get Android 11?

Hello, anyone knows what codes to use to test mic problems in Nokia 9 PureView?

Is the Nokia 8 a good phone a non-tech savy 70 year old woman?

I need a new phone for my mum. I'm looking for something with a decent camera, performance and battery life with no known issues for around £300. The Nokia 8 seems to check these boxes but I'd love to hear from some Nokia 8 users to confirm/deny this? What's low light camera performance like with the latest update? Thanks
Why not the Nokia 6 2018 and still get a decent phone and save a considerable chunk of money.
Low light shots with the stock app is crap on the 8.
Agree, Nokia 8 has been out for more than 8 months now? There's a little hardware refresh recently - Nokia 8 Sirocco, the camera lens specs is of older design, they're having problem updating the camera app at the moment, furthermore it is not an Android One/Project Treble, which means update of the device will be very limited in the future?
Sent from my gemini using XDA Labs
It doesn't have a decent camera.

I recently helped my mum upgrade to a Nokia 5 (model choice was made based on price and availability). She has said she is finding quite easy to use and enjoys that her solitaire game looks alot clearer on the new screen (haven't quite managed to get her into Marvel Strike Force just yet).
My point being that in general any android phone running near stock android will be fine for a non-techy person.
So if your budget extends to include the Nokia 8, go for it.
But at the same time, if she isn't going to leverage all the features that contribute to the cost of a Nokia 8 you might as well pick her up of the cheaper ones and use the difference to grab things like extended warranties and some cases/screen protectors etc.
Thank you for all your input. I decided to go ahead and get mum the Nokia 8 and I'm happy to say she's delighted with it!

Worth buying?

The Nokia 8 is a pretty decent all rounder phone. Probably the only downside to the P10 is the camera quality. Decent sensor but post processing and camera software was lacking. The auto focus isn't that reliable and low light performance will suffer. And the camera software lacked Pro mode which the P10 should have currently. And the camera app was buggy from time yo time. But HMD is going to update the camera framework and bringing Pro mode to the 8. So probably you may see some improvements by then.
Don't get me wrong. The camera is good for what it is. I got really decent shots in bright lighting conditions. Only the camera software isn't really that reliable.
I did compare my phone side by side with a Huawei P9(Bright light conditions). Apart from the post processing issues on the Nokia 8, I found the camera looked abit better compared to the P9(Not sure about the P10 though).
I'm speaking this from my own experience owning the phone for a few months. I take a lot of photos with my phone, so the camera was one important aspect to me along with battery life and performance. Battery life is what you'll usually get for something around 3000mAH. I got around 4-6 hour screen on time from a full charge. But the phone can last you the whole day. Snapdragon 835 too. So performance overall was good.
If you want something with better battery life for the similar amount of price, go for the Huawei Mate 10 instead since that has a 4000mAH battery.
Software updates so far has been consistent. Got security updates every month and its confirmed to get Android P. Hopefully they'll keep it that way until the phone reaches the end of its life.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my phone. So definitely worth checking it out. Especially if you prefer something with near stock Android too.

Huawei p10 supports bootloader unlock, so you can root the Huawei.
Nokia does not.

Not sure if I should get Nokia or Xiaomi

Hi all,
I've been looking to get a device on the Android One program and after a lot of reading and reviews I need to decide between Nokia 7 Plus and Xiaomi A2.
I have a few question for Nokia 7 Plus owners:
1. I see that on other devices, in order to use gcam mod, camera2api needs to be enabled and that requires bootloader unlock and root. How is on Nokia?
2. How does the device feel in hand? Is it slippery? Easy to use hold in one hand?
3. How are updates on Nokia devices? I see that they are pretty quick in updating. Are the updates stable?
4. Are there any software/hardware problems related to this model? I see some users complaining about auto-brightness, sound problems, freezing, restarts...
Basically Xiaomi A2 is a considerably cheaper, uses the same hardware, cameras I think are comparable. So should I take the Nokia or not? I am not interested in nfc, sdcard, headphones jack.
Thank you for your time.

1) You don't need to root or unlock bootloader inorder to use Gcam in Nokia 7+. Because Camera2 API is already enabled. Simply install Gcam and enjoy.
2) Its fantastic. Not that slippery. Using it without any case. (But surely need one for protection). One hand use is ok. After few days we can easily use with onehand ( Tobe honest In-hand feel is better in A2)
3). Yes. Updates are stable and faster . Not like Xiaomi Android One Program.
4) Only older batch. Nothing in new.
I suggest u to take Nokia 7+. Because i am an old user of Mi A1 and totally disappointed with the update..
Only downside of Nokia 7+ is development. May be in future it will change. But now development sucks.. If u really need development like custom kernels or roms and blah blah then Nokia 7+ is not for you.

1. A lot of phones are moving towards locked bootloaders now using security as an excuse. I used to root all my phones but Android has developed so far now that I find I no longer need to.
2. Phones feels ok for me.
3. Well. I had a 6.1 which was stuck on May update and Nokia Care blamed carriers etc etc etc. So I upgraded to a 7 Plus and now I cant get updates because I tried out the Pie preview. I get the feeling HMD have nobody who fully understands updates. They keep telling you to be patient.
4. I have found no problems with this phone or the 6.1
There you go. The Nokia phones are ok when they work. When they dont you will struggle to get hold of someone in customer service who know what they are doing.
Thank you all, I really appreciate your feedback. Given all the info read, here I can list the pros and cons based on what I need
A2
+ good feel in hand
+ about 25% cheaper in my country
+ notification led
- that camera bump looks like it's annoying if using it on desk
- no way to use gcam without root and bootloader unlock, which is something I don't want to do.
- no double tap to wake
+/- the software remains to be seen... A1 wasn't really great in that department
7Plus
+ double tape to wake
+ better screen quality
+ stable software with quick updates
+ google camera works without root
- like 25% more expensive
- not sure the looks in live preview with the copper accent.
- finger print scanner seems a bit too high
- no notification led and glance uses battery since it has LCD
- bulkier and heavier
Interesting on the camera between the two. Both cameras seem ok. Some say that on nokia is a bit better, probably with gcam even better.
Looks like nokia has more advantages but I agree it's a bit too pricier.
Thank you again for your thoughts and time.
I haveonly ONE problem withNokia (7plus) => Bootloader is NOT unlockable (not officialy, and neoficialy/payed method as o read, stop working with August updates)
I really miss TWRP and ROOT, andalso notgwowing devcomunity...
2. feel in hand is excelent, also i use transparent case in box (maybe not in all country/distribution?) which is too excelent
3. updates is for me super stable and rolling (for me) via OTA in day of release (in some country(GB?) with some SIM is problematic, see some thread here), now i have ~3month P beta and useis as stable dailydriver too...
4. i don't see any sw/hw problem on me device, i see some on xda have problem, but maybe.. i have disabled animation and use NovaLauncher(no lags), i have disabled auto brightness(always on all phones), not have problem with sound (only in P BETA us problemaric record/play video sound), nothing restart or freezing...
Xiaomi Mi A2 has no sdcard slot. That's a nogo for me.
Best is Nokia 7 plus, You can get discount on Paytm and get the device around 20k.
Both enrolled to android one program, that guarantees SW update for 2 years so all functionality will be same.
- though they shares almost same processor even Nokia performs better and managed to score more on ANTUTU.
- Nokia has beaten A2 on Camera pic quality, MI's 20 mp is not able tot beat Nokia 7 plus.
- Hardware and build can not be compared Nokia feels premium and solid than MI while MI A2 feels cheap infront of Nokia.
- MI do not have head phone jack.
- MI has less battery but still taking same charging time as Nokia.

IN my opinion go for Nokia 7 plus it will stand tall for next 3-4 years

@alinescoo
Buddy. No need to think twice. Simply take Nokia 7+. I am an happy user of 7+ ( Old unhappy user of A1 too).
I have used both Nokia and mi. Nokia is higher price range, which was my concern earlier. However, after i started using it i realised the small things that make up the cost. The camera especially in dark is excellent. Mi pictures are grainy whereas Nokia are amazing.
I would recommend Nokia 7 over mi if you don't mind spending more.
Thank you all for your valuable feedback.
The price of 7 Plus is around the same for a used Pixel 2. I'll keep an eye on the market to see if I can get one for a good value/price. Or maybe wait another month and a half for pixel 3 release, as probably prices for pixel 2 will drop.
Thank you again for your time.

Is Nokia 7 plus still worth to buy

I want to buy a new phone and I know that 7 plus is one of best option in my country Egypt right now (4555 egp = 261.75$) and the things that i was think have the same price Realme 2 pro and Mi A2
https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9058&idPhone2=9140&idPhone3=9345#diff-*,mi-a2
and I think it's the best option right now and has a positive reviews so what do you think about it and what is Negatives about it and what about the pie update because I hear you talk about problems after the update
Thank you so much guys

It depends what you are looking for.
Im a happy N7+ user, will keep the phone at least 2 more years. Running on pie, zero problems, battery up to 48 hours.
I just dont play games. A lot of photos (thanks GCam) , social, internet, i like the Android 1 concept. Now its price is dropped i think its a good deal.
For the Mi A2 i can just tell you build quality is not comparable with the N7+ and i read about the screen, if you wear sunglasses you cant see it well.
About the Rεalme, test the OS ... i come from EMUI and MIUI and still prefer stock android one.

I also prefer android 1 but i hear about problems in charge , what about that
https://community.phones.nokia.com/...lus-usb-c-charging-port-fail-in-build-quality
and do you think it's a good deal or wait for something like mi a3 or pocophone 2 or something
I am also change my phone every 2-3 years
there are cases that report this problem and other little things now and then, its true.
But i think the majority doesn't have them, and since you buy a new device you have warranty, so if something comes up you bring it back and demand a repair.
I too have zero problem with Pie (no charging/battery/wifi/bt/usb/screen problem which you can read from some peoples here in some n7p threads)...
Only problem is no officially way for unlock bootloader, but if you buy with nonupdated (security <= august) and you dont install ota, is possible unofficially unlock (payed service(generating signature file based on your imei/sn) per 4$ and you unlock it with this file)...
Device with newer update is need downgrade before unlocking (another payed service 6$? Is need remote to ypur pc with vonnected phone)

The phone is from late 2018 it's not even half a year old so I don't understand what you mean with 'still' worth. I come from a Droid Turbo (XT1254) and I spend around a week to carefully select the right phone, I also did this when I made the decission for the 7+.
The upsides in daily experiences:
Battery lasting (disable the Evenwell batterysaver for more durance),
Camera (on gcam it's crazy good quality)
Speed
Sound (loud and good)
Memory slot
The downsides I have discovered:
USB-C connection (could also be dirt, or the cable)
Screen is no amoled, and in sunlight performs like most devices
After rooting, not that much mods as I am used to like Droid Turbo
I am very happy with this device, it's a very good follow up to my Droid Turbo although I miss the IR-sensors that Motorola put on the Droid Turbo. At meetings it was like "how did you do that" when I wave to see the incoming messages. It was fun

Very happy with the phone also.
No issues on Pie.
Min. 2 days battery (no gaming, YouTube or Facebook).
If this phone would have been smaller (like 5.6" pixel 3) it would have been perfect.
Xiaomi phones are cheap, but with a reason.
Not sure about realme, but Android one is worth it.
Good luck.
If you don't use NFC, buy Redmi Note 7 (Pro).

Yes, for me, for TWRP, rooting with Magisk, Magisk mofules, Greenify in better root mode, TitaniumBackup, access to all apps data, F-Droid privileged (instakl/update direct without need manualy confirm all packages install)...
For others is also benefit try others roms (also GSI pissible), others kernelm etc...

It's loose on several Nokia devices due to a designflaw at production. The port is too big and gives room for the cable to move/get loosen. One solution is to 'fatten' the cable through knife, or to just use a docking station.
Sending a loose USB-C for warrenty will just fix the problem temporarly and a lot of phone fixing companies take days/weeks + may return your device with new scratches.

Presonally I would not recommend at all.
Why? This phone is stupidly unstable. Few days ago I wanted to delete history in Chrome from the last 7 days, my phone freezed during the delete process.
Also uninstalling apps is for some reason slow, even when uninstalling or disabling some apps can cause also phone to freeze. The list could be even long, you can find issues I find on my posts through my profile.
Really tired of this phone, and dissapointed because I am emotionally connected with the Nokia brand, having now Nokia phone was a must, but unfortunately I regret.
I am still on older build, 32CC, I saw there are much newer builds where they maybe fix those issues, but I cannot even manually sideload those updates.
I don´t know what is the situation with other phones like 8.1, 7.1, do they have similar problem? Can anyone confirm this?
Also you can see that HMD struggles with the software, Nokia 9 which was supposed to came out back in August last year and which came 7 months later, still have software issues, probably everyone at HMD is all in to fix software issues for Nokia 9, also literally not a single Nokia device did not get March update, which shows that HMD is really poor with the software engineers.
hi, i bought my Nokia 7 plus on April 2018 for MYR1600. Phone good on paper but bad in implementation.
Frequent screen freezes (power off n on to fix issue) n loose USB port after 6 months. Sent to service center n they replaced usb port n motherboard. update November 2018 update n screen blank off when making receiving calls.
they replace the same thing again. RUN AWAY FROM THIS PHONE
Bad sides is Speed and Usb-c port issue for me. It has all aroung good stuffs
There's no lineageOS and 60fps video (and official bootloader unlock, not even a recovery tool!). If you don't care about those, then its still a great buy from what I've known so far. Heard that the camera is good. It's included in my shortlist.
Spend a bit more and you can get the Xiaomi f1 and even xz1 (bit old but not bad).

Whats next on the P20 Pro?

Did Huawei already kinda give up on the P20 Pro? I know that there's is coming the EMUI 10, but new features? or features that other phones are getting? The Mate 20 has announced some new stuff like moon mode, DC dimming, ultra-low latency Bluetooth (maybe here there is a hardware difference), the Nova 4 is also getting front camera night mode. Also the camera on the P20 Pro still as a lot to improve especially on the video and front camera. I just kinda feel like they already letting go a last year flagship just like that.
Low latency bluetooth might be because of the bluetooth 5 thing. Guess who's switching if they abandon the phone in the same way they did 2 years ago.
Is a shame that an 800+€ flagship is just kinda 'forgot' already just like that because there are others flagship to push out to consumers, this phone is great and still can be better but yeah f**k consumers.

Some of the features that the mate 20 and p30 have are mostly hardware-related. The 30x zoom could had been bought to our phone, same goes for dimming, ar lens and more stuff.

This.. Also when is Huawei gonna finally solve the video focus jitters or whatever is?
Hate to be devils advocate here but if they put all there shiney new tricks on last year's phone what would be the point in the p30, it's a business decision.
Sicks but it's how phones are sold, I think given the p20 is nearly 2 now it's doing well with updates.
Business is business until the customers do a massive refund and move on to something else

Something that almost never happens in real life.
The successful company must really fail on many fronts to make majority of their customers go. It must be combination of really disappointing product and terrible financial condition of this company. The closest example that comes to my mind is htc drastically losing its market share in 2011. Their models like Sensation or Incredible S had hardware defects and weren't match for Galaxy S II.
However an average user won't abandon Huawei because they don't want to make its really good p20 pro look (softwarewise) like p30 pro. Every vendor does that.

I don't wanna my P20 Pro to look like the p30 pro or all the shiny new stuff that is hardware related (impossible of course) but it would be cool to have a last year flagship to record a video without is "focus jumping around" every few seconds and stuff like that that ruin the video and can be improved.
Does feel like we're being left behind tbh.
Emui 10 has been mentioned but no time line specifically. Video stabilization has actually got worse on 9.1 Vs 8.1 on 1080p 30fps
Battery had got worse too.

This... It's a 800€ plus flagship from last year, the mate 20 will get the emui 10 fast, like every other update til now
Battery performance decreases over time. It's normal for this type batteries. I don't see much difference between 8.1 and 9.1.

There is a difference, it's not normal battery degredation, this is a specific drop between bases.

It's not like i don't believe you. I've just haven't noticed one yet on my device. My battery time us pretty much the same.
My battery lasts just a bit less than on emui 9.0
The phone feels a little snappier, that's come with some drawback, it can't be just the new file system

Were you used to getting 9-10 hours SOT consistently on your P20 Pro on 8.1? And you're still getting that on 9.1 ?

I was getting 7-9 hours SOT on 8.1 and now I am easiliy getting more than 7.
In order to determine whether it's normal battery degradation (just an example: my old iphone's battery lost 8% of its capacity over a year) or result of update to 9.1 I would have to downgrade to 8.1 and test which I am not really willing to do.

Ok so that's a pretty obvious drop?
I know personally that the phone is less efficient with 9.1, it is what it is.
You just said yourself that you've noticed no drop yet you've just gone from 7-9 to 7 ?
