Start screensaver if display off - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hi,
Is there anyway I can start Androids screen saver when i turn off the display so I can use it as a AOD? (non root)
I'm aware of like Daydream Launcher plus but that did not seem to work for me, maybe because of Android 12 but is was buggy, not triggering and/or lagging.
Thanks,

Widgets not updating - Oreo

Hi Guys,
I have the strange behaviour that my calendar widgets (doesn't matter which one, i prefer Business calendar 2 pro) freeze after a time. Don't know when it happens...sometime after an hour, sometimes after 15 minutes.
The widgets don't update then. But when toggling to lower resolution and back to fhd, they work again. Even if I use nova launcher and rotate display and rotate back, they work again.
Seems that it has to do with display...anybody an idea or similar problems and/or workarounds?
thx
Same with Mate 9 (Oreo)
Hi!
Same problem with my Mate 9 updated to Oreo. For example, with my phone, some widgets like BBC and SeriesGuide don't work. Other widgets seem to work (Spotify, Feedly, etc.)
I've tried your workaround (switching resolution) and indeed it temporarily fixes the problem. I suppose and hope we'll have a real fix with next updates by Huawei.
Regards.
For me too widgets not updating after a time. Switching resolution solves the problem temporarily.
To solve it:
- Go to battery option in the app and turn off 'manage automatically'
- Manage manually: all options turned on.

Setting 7th gen Fire tab up as SmartHome wall mounted dashboard - lockscreen problem

Hello,
i'm currently planning on using a 7th gen fire 7 and a 7th gen fire HD 10 as wall mounted dashboard for SmartHome experiments.
Home is not too smart at the moment, it's mainly about a convenient control for philips hue lamps, but would be nice to be scalable in future.
My current setup uses ImperiHome (here) to deliver dashboard and control.
A combination of Tasker, Motion Detector and Secure Settings to detect motion and activate the display automatically (here)
As for the differences between the tablets:
the fire 7 is on fire OS 5.4.0.0 and hence not rootable and not downgradable to a rootable version at the moment, correct?
the fire HD 10 is on fire OS 5.6.0.0 and rooted.
Current main problem is the lockscreen.
My motion detection activates the screen but only reaches the lockscreen..
i've done some googling (no-lock apps, terminal commands, tasker tasks) but up to now i haven't found a way around it.
My wish would be to just disable it - any ideas??
Alternatively i'm looking into the idea of displaying an app all the time, which will avoid standby like a fullscreen clock. (here)
Unfortunately i'm afraid of killing the tablet quickly when it is always on.
Is there a way to switch of the background illumination and display without sending the tablet to sleep/lock/standby mode?
Second (less important) i want to automate the charging with an Osram smart plug +, which the tablet shall activate via a tasker task when it needs recharging and deactivate when full. Haven't looked into that yet but i thought in case someone got a tutorial at hand it would be great!
Thank you very much!
Hi, Have a look at the Fully Kiosk Browser APK on Google Play, check out Home Assistant forums search for Fully Kiosk Browser some information how its been used with that system.
Thank you for the advice! I've already spent some time in those forums. Up to now I'm trying to avoid an additional home assistant raspberry..
So I'd like to use the imperihome dashboard instead of a web based browser dashboard..
But I'll try to see whether I can use the anti-lock function of fully somehow!
How about Developer Options -> Stay Awake ? (google how to enable developer options if you don't have that enabled already)
I've not used Fully yet, but what I understand from the description, you can use the tablet camera as motion detection, switch screen on and load any app,
Yes that's correct, even with a sleeping tablet.
Unfortunately if it was "sleeping" with screen off it will start the target so "behind" the swipe away lock screen...

But I'd like the display to turn off..
I don't have a fire tablet to try this, the dim function in full will turn the brightness down to 0, and when monition is detected by the camera it brightens back up.

Auto Brightness app superior to Samsung with Oreo?

I find the current Note 8 auto-brightness on oreo to be abit slow to react and not very consistent. Are there any 3rd party app that will work well with the Note 8 on oreo (not rooted) that is more consistent and responsive then Samsungs?
I think you should go to
Setting
Display
Auto brightness
Then tap on Auto brightness
After that tap on Reset usage pattern...
It should keep the brightness consistent again.
I don't think that you should install third party stuff for this..

Question Missing "Dim Screen" feature of Android 12 in MIUI 13

Hi everyone,
Android 12 introduced a feature called "Dim Screen" which allows you to further reduce your brightness than lowest possible on brightness slider, but it is missing from MIUI 13.0.4.0 Global Update for RN10 plus. Is there a way to access this feature. I'm asking because apps like Night Screen or Night Owl, which I used to rely on before dont work on Android 12. You cannot interact with UI if any app is "displaying over other apps". I really need much lower brightness at night and its became a hassle.
Anyone knows the solution?
If you're rooted, you can use cf.Lumen on the A12 MIUI ROM. It doesn't seem to have any issues with displaying over other apps, and it's a great app, one of the best of this kind, because it doesn't just put an overlay on the screen, it directly affects color channels.
Without root, I think I remember Twilight causing no issues like that on A12.
I doubt the dimming feature is accessible in MIUI, given that MIUI handles brightness quite differently.

In ancient looks like this:
Same here. On the Xiaomi 12X the extra dim feature is not avaiable. Latest global 13.02
Download the apps called MIUI downloader from Playstore, there was a tab called hid. Features and you will find the extra dim feature there.
Just activate it and it will be shown in control center toggle also
