Question Disable light sensor - Redmi Note 10 Pro

The front light sensor on my device doesn't work, causing my screen to flicker randomly. How would I disable this sensor?

By disabling adaptive brightness

That doesn't do it. This flickering occurs even when adaptive is off, but stops when I enable "Sensors Off"

This proves that ambient light sensor is not the root cause of flickering. It's actually pwm. More info here https://www.notebookcheck.net/Xiaom...-display-redmi-note-10-pro-with-a-120-hz-oled

I've followed all steps mentioned, but it doesn't fix anything. My phone doesn't have the flickering that it mentions, the brightness flickers randomly around three times a second, and in diagnostics the light sensor goes from detecting 0-20 to 30,000+ even in pitch black, which corresponds with the brightness flicker
PWM doesn't explain the random brightness changes every few seconds, especially since it's completely absent when sensors are disabled
I just want to know how to disable this specific sensor instead of all at once

light sensor problem

i have a problem with light sensor. sipmply is not working.. when i turn it on the screen goes to lowest settings.
I installed the "water level" program an i see that there is always at 926 lumens. any idea whats wrong?
i try hard reset but the problem persists.
What I did for it to actually start working was I put the "On battery power" all the way to power save, and then selected "auto adjust backlight.
I might look stupid here, but my screen goes dimmer in a pitch black room, and brighter when there is a lot of light. Is this how it works?

That's right - if the environment is darker you don't need that much backlight for the screen to be readable. The more light is shining at the display the brighter it has to be in order for you to see anything. It's really more of a power saving feature...
for the record:
i return my device as DOA and now i got a new one that is working fine .

MeMo Pad ME572c fluctuating brightness

Just picked up an ME572c and I'm very impressed for the price. However I have noticed the screen brightness levels keep fluctuating as if the light sensor is constantly detecting different light levels.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,
i notice this too, but that can be related to the power saving mode. Plz turn it off and check the settings in detail. Maybe that helps.
Further inside the developer options there is another option to configure the auto brightness.
You can change the behaviour from dynamic to immediately or slow mode and active an onscreen lux, gain and brightness value display.
Btw i am not satisfied with the auto control, as for my taste the brightness is still too low in a less lighted room. Sensor is reporting 0 lux already with a brightness of 14 which would be ok for a really dark room & night but not at daytime.
What is your experience?
I tried playing with power saving mode and the auto brightness controls in developer options. While I could reduce the fluctuations, I could eliminate them completely. Unfortunately I found it too distracting and returned the device earlier today. It's a shame as everything else was quite impressive for the money.
I also found the fluctuations annoying, my solution was to turn the auto-brightness off. Honestly I dislike auto-brightness on any device, it was also one of the first things I turned off on my laptop.
I am using Lux app now and raised minimum brightness at 0 lux. Thats ok for me now.

Just bumping this to confirm this works and so that others can see. I used Developer options as well (before I found this post) and noticed the instant setting works best.
One more setting to also double check... Make sure that in developer options under auto brightness that you disable allow change gain...
Even with everything disabled it appears as if something still is changing the display. I particularly see it with something like a reddit browser when I'm viewing pictures. You click the pic, it loads and displays and then 1-2 seconds later the display adjusts based upon what is being displayed. Depending upon the picture it can be pretty annoying. I may have to root and start poking around to find out what is causing this.
with the lollipop update this issue is fixed for me.
Is lollipop really solve the problem?

Hello!
Im on lollipop, but the problem you had, still occur at me.
Did you noticed this problem, since you on lollipop?
I have the same problem. When i read, or browsing, the brightness changes in 2-3 steps.

AOD brightness

Hello, does some one knows why the AOD sometimes is brighter sometimes dimmer, regardless of ambient light, it is driving me nuts as I do not find some setting for controlling this…
Btw, I am still on 7.1.1, 950 F stock

I Think it's related to the light sensor on top of the device. When you get your phone off your pocket it will be lighten up.
And probably will happen at the same time you read out the screen. Aftere facedown the device or when it hasn't recognized human usage for a while (1 to 2 min.), it should be dimmed to reduce power.
Have you set auto brightness to off at 'settings/ display' or else tried to set 'adaptive display' to 'basic' at 'settings/ display/ screen mode'?
Have you set the AOD to be always on? Or having time specific settings enabled?
Hopefully this will help you out.
Thanks , I use entertainment mode, I set AOD to always, as for light sensor, in dark or bright situations it seems to be brighter or dimmer at random, sometimes I wake up after 2 or 3 hours of sleep antd AOD is very bright!, or the contrary, beeing for sometime outdoors and is dimmed
Which version of AOD did you have installed? Is it custom downloaded from sammobile or something? Maybe force stop the app, or better to clear app data and reboot and/or check if the app has an update. All in app-info
Currently I'm on 8.0.0 and no issues with AOD so far.

I did some research and found something that might work to decrease dimming to 0.
The app (link to Playstore) "priv set" (by: oguzhan yigit) has some powerful settings with it to set on overlay basis.
One thing... You only can use it with root privilege.
The attachment shows the possible setting to decrease dimming while dozing.

AOD brightness level

It seems that AOD brightness level is automatic and can not be adjusted. It's even not connected wit screen "Adaptive brightness".
Is there any workaround. Do you think that this mod will work?

Make a backup of your device and give it a shot. Worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work and you lose nothing.

Already tried that and it does nothing.

Question Screen dimming randomly

Hello,
Recently got this phone and very happy with it. Only issue I have found is that the screen occasionally dims randomly, not by a lot, but noticeable when it happens.
Adaptive brightness is off. System mode is set to dynamic.
Is dynamic system mode the issue? If so which is a good adaptive battery setting which won't affect the screen brightness.
Thanks in advance
I assume its due to the changes in refresh rate. Try setting the refresh rate to a single value (120 90 or 60) and i think you wont see the transition.
Same issue and I have adaptive brightness on. You will open an app and suddenly brightness will turn all the way down. Definitely a bug.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried this at 90hz, for reasonable battery, but it still does it.
Same here! Locked at 90hz, so that's not the problem.
I'm having the same issue. Adaptive brightness off, fixed refresh rate. I've only noticed it when I'm outside in bright light.
same problem.
have zenfone 7 rooted. locked to 90hz. adaptive brightness switched off.
anyone found a solution or cause?
I've noticed it happens when i tilt the phone.
and also when i have an app overlaid over main screen. like YouTube vanced minimised etc.
i think phone somehow might be switching brightness between the small app at the front and the main app on the back and doing it back and forth.
