Advice for phone - Introductions

Hello, I want advice for a phone between iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung s 21+, I want to use it for a long time, fast and non-catching. What do you think of Samsung's Exinus processor? Some people say it's good, others say it's not. Is snapdragon better? Also what do you think about OnePlus 9 Pro, Oppo find x 3 pro, Sony xperia and Pixel 6 pro.? I will be grateful for your detailed advice. Which phone is the best in the long run.

Welcome to XDA
Long run, how long? There have been display issues with the S21Us. Unlike iPhones and other Androids stock Samsung's UI is tricked out.
Personally I won't buy any Android with no SD card slot which I use as a data drive. Samsung's support up to 1tb. My minimum ram is 8gb but having 12gb doesn't hurt.
I want a native spen, its remote bt shutter release and especially Smart Capture are very useful.
I want either Android 9 or 10 which the Samsung UI is nearly identical for both and functional.
I didn't want the issues with variable rate displays (reduced color rendering/power consumption) or 5G. I hate rounded display corners.
So I went with a second new Note 10+ Snapdragon running on Android 10.
Still one of the best Amoled displays out there. My heavily used 2+ year old N10+ continues to run nearly flawlessly with one battery replacement so far.
It looks and runs like it was new. No detectable display degradation with ScreenTest. It's a gorgeous solid workhorse that just keeps running. Buttons, spen and C port jack are still tight. Current OS load is over 1.5 years old, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
Projected service life is 2-3+ years.
Zero regrets... so far.
The biggest problem with Androids is choice. There's an Android to fit any appetite...
My display is minimalistic by design. Dark themed with One Handed Operation plus running on the sides. Digi Clock also hides a set of quad short cut buttons. There's a lot there, out of sight...

Sorry to hear about your lose.
If you don't want the spen there's the S10, 20 series. These are smaller more no nonsense phones that are still very capable.
My knowledge of them however is very limited.
Whatever you decide use a reliable vendor as there's a lot of misleading ads. Best to talk with the company by phone first and feel them out.

convince me not to get an S4

hey guys,
i have been hyped about the HTC one since announcement, but yesterday a friend of mine told me 2 reasons to get the s4 instead that had me thinking:
1. SD card expansion, claims 32GB will not be enough and 64GB is not available in my region
2. Mainstream, in my region S4 will have more accessories, easier support than HTC
I love the HTC one but i am not sure if i must go with a brave choice that i love or a safe choice that i don't hate
ideas ?
many dev's complained about Samsungs new way of not supporting mods or custom roms. In contrary, HTC (and especially the Snapdragon 600) offer great support for the modding scene.
Apart from that, i personally dislike the whole 5"-hype. 4,7" is my personal maximum, otherwise i'd feel like i'd talk to a brick in my hands. I won't talk about the obvious things like the awesome screen, boomsound and the build quality for now, because there are more than enough reviews about that everywhere.
When it comes to storage, i personally don't care about having the option of using any SD-card. I had a 16 GB SD in my Galaxy S2 before and never used it's full capacity, so i don't think i'll fill up the internal storage of my One ever.
If you got a Samsung your just be getting the same old thing i had a note 2 good phone but not a scratch on the one its a pretty awesome phone
There are many possible remedies if you suffer from lack of storage: cloud storage & USB OTG (OTG cable or microsd card reader).
I've seen a ton of accessories for the One already. Of course, Samsung is more well-known than HTC, so there are probably more accessories made for it, but how many accessories do you need for one phone? (As this is my first HTC phone, I'm not well versed in their support department, so I'll let someone else answer that.)
Ultimately, it comes down to what you want in a phone. There are pros and cons to every phone. You won't find "the perfect phone" because it doesn't exist. Your personal likes and usage pattern should determine which phone you get.
Really there is no way to convince anyone. My recommendation is to go into a shop and try them both and see which one you like. Each device has it's pros and cons depends on personal preference. Good luck.

Hah! I won't try to talk you out of anything , it's YOUR MONEY!!
instead , you should ask yourself how you plan to use it.
1.Only when you stockpile lots and lots of musics or videos in your phone, and NEVER delete them, then you will need an extra SD card.
32GB is definitely enough for most people. OTG and cloud are good options , but lets not get too much into them, assuming you don't plan to use them. I can even live with my 16G nexus 7...
2.True. but I always keep my phone naked so it's nothing to me really. I am sure you could find a nice accessory anyway, just not as much choices as S4.
not choosing ONE also means you have to give up the good feeling in your hand, eye-candy looks, incredibly good stereo...(no, I don't mean BEAT). It's not a life-risking choice you know? 90% users could be happy with both.
I can understand that someone direly need SD / removable battery. it just not matters that much to me.
htc one has the best unique design.
Buy an S4 and the kitten gets it!

S4 will be no better than the One. The screen will be poop, the camera will be ok, the UI will be poop, the audio from the speaker will be poop, the design will be poop, the software will be bloated with rubbish you don't need that you'll constantly have to turn off, you'll have to buy a case to hide it, you'll feel like you bought an S3 and no one will know you've upgraded.
HTC One is just smooooth and very cool.

Which phone is a worthy opponent to the note 4?

Between all the flagship phablets released in 2014, what do you think is the most worthy opponent to the Note 4 to be considered before you go and buy the note 4.
I am evaluating my options here, and considering other phones like the LG G3 beside the Note 4.
Share what do you think is a worthy opponent to the note 4.
In terms of the Note 3 Zero.
No SPen = no competitors.
None are in the same class in terms of multi app usage either.
I'm considering a Z3, and if an HTC M8 Maxx was out, I would consider that too...My wife's G3 is a pretty nice phone as well.
If a stylus is important to you, then obviously there is NO competition..
The way I see it we have four options
1) a worthy oponent to the note 4 would be another colour of the note 4, say you have a black one then a white one would be a worthy oponent.
2) a note edge maybe
3) a note 3
4) if you dont want to spend so much money that is then the oneplus one.
These are my opinions.
There are no opponents to the note line to be totally honest.
I see xda site got a facelift.

i dont have any personal grudge against that phone, but the poor display talks for itself
There's nothing comparable when it comes to display. Displaymate says its the best mobile display ever. The closest is probably the iPhone 6+ 1080p display if you don't count the QHD which most people don't care about, and it is a distant second. That's what you get when you are the only ones with modern OLED tech on a phone.
Nothing comparable to the Snapdragon 805 of the Exynos either. I mean, literally there are no 805 phones yet and definitely no 20nm Exynos phones which is, again, a Samsung exclusive.
S-Pen and wacom digitizer. Of course no one has it.
Camera nothing is comparable. All those crappy Chinese phablets use the same 13MP sensor with terrible software processing. The Vibe Z2 Pro supposedly has the same 16MP OIS sensor, but I've seen more than a few reviews of it and the quality really sucks. Software does a whole lot, and the glass and camera unit they built the sensor into is likely not that great either. LG G3 isn't very sharp and their low light shots are very overexposed. and blur easy because they rely heavily on the OIS. Xperia Z2/Z3 is low contrast, underexposed, noisy, poor colors, and very inconsistent. It has no OIS either. The only superior cameras are iPhone 6/6+ for nightshots, and Nokia Pureview cameras. Basically nothing can compete with the Note 4 in Android. Android just really sucks with cameras in general.
another none here, but come to think of it little more, Note 3 is actually the only opponent. Others have no stylus and therefore not in the same class, Note 2 is little outdated. I know it's bad since my choices for phone are limited to 2 models, but I refuse to have phone without stylus.

OxygenOS 9.5.7 update available for 5G model

There's a new update our for the 5G variant, 9.5.7
It adds very little and quite frankly is a bit of a disgrace - this "update" is still the June path level and to make matters worse the feature disparity between the 4G & 5G is widening!

Which do you think is the majority device? Yeah so that's the one they'll dev for first. That's the risk of getting into technology at launch, exactly why I didn't bother with the 5g version, wait until it's properly bedded in and the norm.

Apparently there's an ongoing issue with the patch they were going to release, hence the delay. If it was me, I'd be happier with a working phone than an updated, mebbe insecure, mebbe glitchy phone. They have said the patch will be coming soon, presumably to bring it to parity with the 4G models.

I told them the phone wasn't fit for purpose as advertised features still didn't work properly, and the continued lack of updates made me question whether they ever would.
OnePlus' silence when it comes to answering queries or support tickets about the 5G is inexcusable - they clearly aren't interested in this phone variant, and I doubt it will ever gain parity with the (lesser) 4G variant.
I'm either going to get a Note 10 or Mate 30 when they're available - I know the Note 10 can do 5G and I almost guarantee that the Mate 30 will too!
How can you go to 60Hz after using 90Hz? I went to a local phone shop to see the Note 10(+), but just because of its 60Hz screen I wouldn't buy it. Period. It just feels sluggish and laggy. All the animations feel as if they are capped because of the 60Hz display.

Question newbie concerns

I've recently swapped oneplus 8 pro for S21 Ultra 5g mainly because of the new galaxy watch 4
In general it is not bad phone but there is a few things and I was hoping to somehow resolve them.
- 2 stores; google and galaxy- can galaxy store be removed?
- samsung pay not working when the phone is unlocked- app needs to be initialised first
- scrolling within apps ie Linkedin, reddit, chrome etc- Oneplus was fluid with scrolling this one is jiggering when scrolling through videos, more complicated photos etc.
- generally UI is quite 'heavy' compare to oneplus 8 pro (with previous year processor)
- fingerprint works how it want to work not like me- press harder etc., very unreliable
- can I setup some screen lock gestures ie V to turn flashlight? or <> to prev or next tracks?
- can I hide unnecessary status bar icons? getting messy there
- is the loyalty cards beem tech (prev Beep'nGo) been discontinued? no sensor?
1. You can disable Samsung stuff if you are rooted
2. Samsung pay won't work on unlocked devices(if that's what you meant by unlocked)
3. Check for screen settings, it's there
4. Nothing you can do, it's One UI(unless you are rooted and can disable a lot of stuff. there is a thread here for disabling stuff)
5. Well known issue.
6. No that I know of
7. Long click on notification and hide
8. I didn't understand the question
3. Check for screen settings, it's there- sorry there is no settings for 'remove lag'
7. Long click on notification and hide- not working for VowWfi etc.
8. I didn't understand the question- Samsung bought beem technology from Beep'nGo) years ago. Successfully developing until my last s9 phone. It's gone here.
3.

8. I'm not familiar with that, maybe someone else can help you with that
Thanks, I am not talking about screen refresh rate. I know this. I was thinking about actually lag through scrolling within all apps. Some kind of hanging when you scroll through videos or hi images. It can be noticeable when you change from oneplus or iPhone to galaxy. It simply lags. No worries. Thanks for your interest

Some apps are just not optimized properly and the lag may also come upon the loading of content. It could be a CPU thing. Can you try to go to the performace settings and remove power saving or adaptive battery and then try to see if the scrolling would improve?
It is also possible that one plus had specifically adjusted their phones to work smoother with the mentionned apps and Samsung didn't.
Also which Firmware version are you on?
You can disable some apps even without root.

I've disabled s21 ultra permanently- sold on ebay and purchased 1+9 pro. Nothing changed since old bloated TouchWiz. It is even worse. Enjoy your new OnePlus 9.
Things have arguably improved by leaps and bounds since TouchWiz, but I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. There are still occasional stutters on this phone while scrolling, and the adaptive refresh rate implementation is a far cry from what Samsung touted during its launch keynote. It's not a of bad phone, nor is it perfect. Guess it's upto each user what they can live with and what they're not willing to compromise.
Wish you all the best, and hope you find peace with your new phone.

"Samsung should stop selling android phones"? So the company which sells more mobile phones than anyone else should stop selling their products? Google holds a dismal market share worldwide of just 2%. One could make a much stronger argument for Google dropping out of the smartphone industry than Samsung. Your logic is absurd.

Question Zenfone 9 expected spec/release date?

I'm about to throw down on an S22 because it's honestly the only human-hands sized phone in the current generation. The only thing holding me back is the possible curveball the ZF9 might be. Secondary display? Large battery? All the goodies with none of the bootloader locking nonsense I have to get around with international versions of the S22?
... maybe if the specs were announced tomorrow May 6th, like i saw posted somewhere? thoughts?
Looks like i answered my own question, they have an event May 9th that lines up perfectly with other Zenfone release dates

I love that samsung went smaller, but the 3700mah battery is a potential dealbreaker. no reason for the phone to be 7mm thick when the cameras protrude so much. make the back flush and go 4500mah+ instead
All the extras are intriguing, interactive back or whatever. It's just the battery for me.
soooooo it looks like there's a second event May 17 and im seeing all Laptop results as teasers for today

no fingerprint sensor back there but you will apparently still need a case cutout on the back anyways to use the "responsive back". maybe there will be a fingerprint sensor in the best location for one imo, that design in the leak or the feature in general could have been scrapped by now, who knows other than Asus themselves?
other things i'd like to see other than the fingerprint sensor in its proper place would be to:
keep the increasingly rare sub-6-inch form factor,
add one more camera for zoom to complete the almost standard now trifecta,
add wireless and reverse wireless charging just for the option and to set itself apart as one of the less than ten phones released this year so far with both,
and move the volume buttons to the left side of the phone,
that last one is minor but that just proves how well they did with the zen 8 imo.

They kept the form factor, increased the battery size a bit and they did improve the location of the fingerprint sensor so right now this is one of my top picks for a new phone. who knows maybe they're waiting on revealing wireless charging yet? Looks like they didn't reveal the responsive back yet so either that feature was axed (like it should be lol) or they haven't revealed all the features yet. Maybe I'm too optimistic... Its between this and the xperia IV for me and right now the xperia is better with its telephoto camera (something this phone will definitely not have, confirmed by its design) and wireless charging (something thats unlikely but still a possibility for the zenfone, fingers crossed), the zenfone has got the form factor and the assumedly better price though.
ZF9 is also gonna be like half the price of the 1 IV, with a TSMC chip instead of the blazing mess that the Samsung chip is.
For me, the ZF9 looks to be the perfect device this generation. I never use wireless charging (super inefficient, plus, you already have a wire going to the charger...) I would love to see microSD slot and a telephoto, but it checks enough boxes for me to hopefully finally retire the 8T.
