Question Motorola Edge S Pro (Manual Update) - Motorola Edge 20 Pro

Good day guys, I bought a Motorola Edge S Pro from AliExpress, and it came with a modified custom Global ROM. The device was already unlocked.
Now the problem I have been having is that the phone does not receive OTA updates, and Security Patch is July 2021. I dont have any prominent issues with the phone, but I would like to get Android 12 when it is released on the phone.
Can I just flash the Chinese stock ROM of Android 12 when it comes out? Which tools can I use for this?

Hi friend,
With the bootloader already unlocked, you can use MotoFlashPro tool to change device ROMs. I used it on my S Pro from aliexpress and it worked perfectly to install a Global ROM.
The annoying part is having to do manual updates whenever available, through the telegram channel.
I'm thinking about testing the Chinese ROM with GApps installed, to receive updates via OTA.
My fear is that I won't receive updates once the bootloader is unlocked, even with Chinese ROM.

The unlocked bootloader has no effect on receiving OTA updates.

Hi guys,
I used the mixed rom (keep stock modem, flash retail system) for Edge S Pro. My phone software is now Retail with CMCC modem.
All of my mixed rom phones (X Style, Z2 Force and also Edge S Pro) did not receive OTA. I had to flash rom manually all the time.
@Phunguyen11 : Global rom <=> Retail rom

Hi, I have the same device from aliexpress. Will moto flash erase all my data like it was a clean install or would allow to get only the updates?

Hi! I just received the Moto Edge 20 pro from AliExpress. Bootloader is still locked and running China ROM. I installed Google play services but the challenge I'm having is syncing my contacts. I can see to access them. Every other thing works fine. Can anyone assist?

You need to uninstall the Chinese cloud sync apps. And the rest of the Chinese applications as well. You can use these instructions (read with a translator) https://4pda.to/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=1029455&view=findpost&p=110606497

You can download any Motorola Global ROM from this website: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto
More specifically for the model in question: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/pstar/official/
To remove the warning message on device boot, you need to install the original or global Rom and then lock the bootloader.
Use the fastboot flashing lock command to lock
Be careful when performing these procedures, here is just a summary of what should be done. I suggest you look for some videos on youtube or other threads first.

Boy this is dangerous not to install a global version and then lock the bootload on a roo that is not really original to the device I heard that it unlocks and clicks the global and locks the bootload ends up killing the device and worse there is no way to unlock it anymore

Official Global ROM

I have not tested it yet, but the official global ROM from 9/21 is apparently here.
http://bigota.d.miui.com/7.9.21/miui_MIMIX2Global_7.9.21_7f94ca393f_7.1.zip
This is not the fastboot version, but the regular 'updater' version. According to some users on the miui forums, it wasn't possible to install, but if anyone wants to try they're welcome to.
http://en.miui.com/thread-928181-1-1.html
I will be working to make a fastboot version of this. Really, it shouldn't be too hard to use sdat2img on the system.new.dat file, then fastboot flash everything from the firmware-update folder.
Update: I was able to flash it with fastboot.
Just use sdat2img on the system.new.dat and system.transfer.list files like this:
python sdat2img.py system.transfer.list system.new.dat system.img
Then flash the system.img, the boot.img, and all of the partitions in the firmware-update folder, using a flash_all script for reference.
It booted up fine. More details to come.
Thoughts after booting (will continue to update):
Many languages are supported, but only able to choose China as the region.
Comes with lots of google apps. Gmail, maps, youtube, drive, play music, play movies, photos, chrome, Duo.
Security patch is 2017-08-01. MIUI version is MIUI 9 Global 7.9.21 | Beta. No updates found in system update.
Fails SafetyNet at CTS profile match.
Overall: I think it's not necessary to install this one. It has the same bugs and issues as all of the other roms, but fails safetynet as well. The best choice is still EU rom.

This was from the India launch event. Hopefully it gets posted soon.

Doesn't work for me, says "Can't verify update. Other reason".
You need the Fastboot rom from here: http://update.miui.com/updates/v1/fullromdownload.php?d=chiron_global&b=F&r=global&n= and to flash the rom with this http://api.en.miui.com/url/MiFlashTool
You need an unlocked bootloader too iirc.
Sorry Please use VPN Chinese server in order to unlock bootloader using the MI unlock tool. Then flash ROM using MI flash tool.

This version 100% doesn't need an unlocked bootloader for the Mi Mix 2, I'm not sure if the older version didn't work or not but this one does. I can't unlock my bootloader through Xiaomi until 3pm tomorrow UK time (72 hour wait) but I flashed the Global ROM today with no issues

Flashing Global Rom from Russian Global Rom

I just received my phone today and it came with unlocked bootloader and Russian global rom V9.5.14.0.OEARUFA.
Question is, can I download the updater ZIP file of Global Rom V9.5.13.0.OEAMIFA and use the updater app to flash instead of using Fastbook/Miflash Tools. Is this a safe way? Will it work? Thanks in advance!
Note : It is China Mi8 device.
I also wait for solution... Buy online and got russian rom and unlocked bootloader... What suitable twrp version for this rom because i scare bootloop will happen when install the unsuitable version... And does anyone here already try the miui pro rom from miuipro website.. does it good? Any feedback is appreciated..
The latest recovery-TWRP-3.2.3-0806 will do the trick.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=5862345805528068853
Flashing with twrp is probably the safest way as mi flash you can accidentally re-lock your bootloader.
Since the OP phone is china mi8. It's compatible with all the rom in this forum (EU, global, etc) with unlock bootloader of course.
I do not wish to change my recovery to twrp. So it's the only way is to use miflash tools? No direct zip flash global from from updater app from phone ?

To my knowledge you can't change channel with updater app. With channel I mean Global stable, Global developer, Chinese stable, Chinese developer etc etc.
So global and global Russia can be used with updater app ? Is that correct?
But if can't, it will only show error and nothing will happen to y device right?

Question Need help to set back stock ROM

Hello,
I have bought a Mi 11 yesterday version M2011K2G,
I found out that the bootloader was unlocked on it, but when I check it has a global ROM installed already on it,
the thing is that it's not making any update, so I guess it's not an original ROM ?
I want to put back the original ROM and lock the bootloader back in order to have updates,
can you please help me on how I can do this without breaking the phone ?
or I'm I not getting the updates just because the bootloader is unlocked and if I lock it I will get them back ? I'm just scared if I lock it back the phone will break,
or you think I should install back the ROM and lock it back to get everything better ?
Thanks !

Normally an unlocked bootloader has no affort to the update. How did you get notice about that? If your bl is really unlocked I would stay with that.
Are you maybe on latest version? Can you take a screen shot of settings - my device - All secs

I know it's unlocked cause I see the unlocked "padlock" when I restart the phone, other than this I don't have any idea of what modification could have been done to it since I'm used to use my phone the way they come with, thats why I want to get it back to stock ROM or get the updates to make sure it's all good

I never used mi flash, sorry.
My first step on new phones are always to unlock the bootloader so I can flash root and restore the apps with titanium.
And I got always updates through Ota.
I switched to xiaomi.eu rom, because it was faster with miui 12.5

thanks man, I will try install this ROM you gave me, I have noticed that when I make "download latest packages" it directly says "impossible to download..."
I wonder why it's doing this
Sorry if I misunderstood you, but you will have to scroll down until you see fastboot then a bit more to 'full rom' and click on the blue button
Edit:
Tested it right now and it works fine for me (download started)
Edit 2:
Seems to work with MI flash tool too:
Found on the mitool side:
Step 1: Download the correct Fastboot ROM on the Windows PC by double-checking the compatibility. Then extract and get the workable extensions on the PC (use the Rom above)
Step 2: installation bla bla
Step 3: too
Step 4: too
Step 5: Then attach the ROM file
Step 6: Switch Xiaomi device into the Fastboot mode. So turn off the device and simply take a long press and hold the keys of Volume Down and Power keys
Step 7: Then connect the device to the PC with a proper USB cable which is in the Fastboot mode
Step 8: Now you can enter the tool interface and check whether the device is connected
Step 9: Then select the most suitable flashing option from all three “Flash all”, “Flash all except storage” and “Flash all except data and storage”
Step 10: Hit flash from the top of the window and wait for several minutes
Step 11: Once the process is done you can reboot and finalize the process successfully.

one last question and I leave you,
my phone is a 12gb 256 (chinese) if I install that same ROM I installed, will I get autoupdates on it or that version can only update on it's chinese ROM ? any idea ?
For my understanding it will work too. The 12 GB ram is EU is not available but it's only additional ram and does not have an other rom.
... So if you can install and use your phone with that rom you will have no issues with updates

Be careful, don't lock bootloader with a global or EEA ROM on CN hardware, you will brick your phone.
Take care when using Miflash with CN flashed to global. Now you are on production software, best to stay there unless you want to install custom ROMs. OTAs should work now. 12.5.1.0 is the latest for EEA.

Question Mi 11 Ultra China rom to EUROM/Global queries

Hi guys! just a couple of questions. I have been reading some of the Q and A on mi 11 ultra in the forums and have some questions of my own for clearer info for me.
I will be unlocking my bootloader today so here's my questions.
1. If I'm flashing a eurom (flashable rom from xiaomi website), do i need to follow the guides in flashing a twrp? or just the usual mi flash tool and eurom for flashing?
2. If I'm flashing a global rom, (i watched in a video that for flashing global rom) do i still need to edit the .bat file and delete the 8 lines pertaining to rollback?
3. currently i have a 12.0.9 chinarom, i haven't updated it yet to 12.5.3 (there is an update available), because i will be unlocking my bootloader. Do i need to update it first before unlocking? or just proceed to unlocked?, then change the rom to my preferred one either eurom or global?
thank you.

Thanks for the reply. You leave the bootloader unlocked, or relocked it in EU version? Are you able to use bank and payment apps without security issues?
And, what is the main differences of the Chinese and EU system?
Thanks
The bootloader remains unlocked, you cannot lock it via dev options. However the ROM works as if it is locked by its design. All bank apps work, may be you might need to delete the empty twrp folder but most don't require it.
It is based on Chinese stock but with so much added. So you get updates quicker on a much better ROM. I'm not going to list the vast number of differences but if you want to read them all, pop over to the Xiaomi EU forum's 11 Ultra's download page for all the info.
EU ROM ram management sucks, nothing I open and I leave without killing it in the background , then I return to it from recent, nothing work, always fresh open. Tried battery management, tried ram management, tried many things, same result

No, you only need to format your storage when you are going from one line to another, such as China to EEA or Xiaomi.eu, but all you need to do for an update is a dirty flash via TWRP or if you are running stock rom, all updates should be relatively seamless, requiring only a simple click to initiate the process and is handled within the OS.

You can do it either way. Personally, I find it quicker on my PC to download the rom and then to copy it to my internal storage, but you can download via OTA if you want as well.

thanks
so i downloaded it ony my mi11u, faster download time.
when i click the "check md5 & install" on "updater"
*best to remove the lock's first, else a chinese welcome note on twrp will prompt to input the password, need to change the language first.
it restarts and bootups on twrp. click install and need to search the downloaded "usually in internal storage, with other files and folders, on the bottom since it's a zip file"
install and reboot "system reboot"
done.

Question Rom 12.5.5.0 RKDEUVF

I have the Rom from Vodafone which however does not receive updates. Would it be possible to install the standard European ROM RKDEUXM without unlocking the bootloader and without losing the phone configuration?
I have the full rom file for fastboot installation 12.5.19.0.
Really thanks
Unfortunately, no, without losing configuration and data, you wont be able to flash any other version roms.

1. It's impossible to flash different rom without unlocking bootloader.
2. It's impossible to unlock bootloader without wiping the phone.
I see that is possible for Xiaomi phone using XiaomiTool V2 via ADB (debug usb enable).
You loose data but you don't have to unlock bootloader.
I don't know if it works with 11t pro...
I'd say DON'T DO IT. Switching ROM like that without unlocking the bootloader is a very bad idea. If something goes wrong your recovery options will be very limited. For sure though if you don't format data after flashing a different region ROM the device will end up soft bricked. Either a bootloop or perma fastboot mode. Adb doesn't work with stock recovery and stock recovery doesn't offer the "format data" option anymore just "wipe" which is not the same and won't fix anything. So unlock bootloader first.
Thanks!
But is it possible to re-lock after rom installed and is it possible to have ota regular updates?

You can only relock bootloader when the rom installed in your phone is the stock ROM came with your phone or else you'll brick it and have to reflash in EDL mode using test point.
Now I'm with RKDEUXM Rom...no brand Vodafone.
I've closed bootloader After flash and small test.
All work fine, no brick and Ota updates downloaded and installed.
Thanks!!!
