Same issue here - the last working version is from March 2019.
If I put a gsi with a vendor from custom firmware, will my phone die?

Lineage OS 17.1 Encrypted data

So ...today i decide update my mi8 from lineage os 16 to 17.1 .
before jump to 17.1 i go to setting and download one update of lineage os 16 that i have there and go to twrp to install , when i slide i got an error saying that i need mi firmware superior to 9.6.20 (something like that) , so i look and download the firmware V10.3.5.0 because was the most recent for android 9.
go twrp and install the firmware and after reboot the problems start. mobile restart , mi logo , LOS animation and after a minute reboot and go twrp and stay like that .
so i decide download de 17.1 and install it.
i got stuck on LOS animations for while and after a factory reset on twrp the phone finally boot.
When i start using the phone i start getting some weird stuff.
- if i go gallery its say " no storage. no external storage available"
- if i go camera say " insert an sd card before start using the camera"
- all folder are encrypted
i try different twrp to resolve the encrypted folder and nothing, plus i lost all my data and at any point i chose wipe all data.
anyone can help me ? im googling for 4h and nothing
Did you format data ?
Not wipe, I mean format.
Otherwise backup your data and format.
Clean install
Installation:
Reboot to recovery (TWRP recovery for Mi 8)
Format /system, /data and /cache
Install MIUI Q based firmware
Install LineageOS zip package
Install [optional] a Google Apps package of your choice (Open GApps is advisable, but stock and super variants are not recommended!!!)

[Guide] Change L3 security status to L1 on os11 custom roms like Havoc OS for FHD HDR netflix, amazon, etc

Won't work on t-mobile variant. Need to change that to global first
You need to download the latest official OOS11 zip
Download the custom rom os11 zip
Download my attached file. Theres a script inside the zip that installs the firmware to both a and b slots which guarantees L1 security status
Download this twrp version which only works on oos10
Mauronofrio's TWRP
Download Mauronofrio's TWRP for free. None
sourceforge.net
Steps:
1) MSM restore the phone to oos. If its on oos9, update it one time so that its on on oos10
2) unlock bootloader and enable usb debugging
3) fastboot into the above twrp
4) install the oos11 zip then install your custom rom zip then install the finalize.zip
5) Go to wipe and format the data
6) Reboot and enjoy. You can check info in devcheck app
7) Optional- fastboot into a twrp that works on os11 or if your rom has a custom recovery like havoc, reboot into that and adb sideload or install magisk. Make sure to enable magisk hide for google play services and you should be on L1

How To Guide how to decrypt xiaomi.eu roms internal storage is now showing in custom recovery

I managed to decrypt Xiaomi.eu rom. my internal storage is now showing in twrp and OrangeFox.
The main problem was that is was not able to run mcrypt.zip because Vendor partition was in Read only mode.
I use xiaomi.eu Stable 12.0.15. (I have not tried on newer releases)
What you need:
OrangeFox R11.1 Beta 2
Magisk V23
SetRW.sh
rmcrypt.zip
Xiaomi EU Rom 12.0.15.0 (or later)
1. Unlock bootloader (I Guess that is already done for most)
2. Flash Orange Fox R11.1 Beta 2 from fastboot
3. format internal Storage from Orange Fox
4. copy Xiaomi EU Rom 12.0.15.0 to internal storage (or sdcard)
5. Flash Xiaomi EU Rom 12.0.15.0 and reboot
6. Boot back to Orange Fox and format Internal Storage again (because it got encrypted)
7. Copy Magisk V23 and flash it but DONT reboot
8. Copy SetRW.sh to sdcard
9 copy rmcrypt.zip to sdcard
10. In orangefox go to mount press the gear image and disabe "Mount system and vendor read-only"
11. Mount then system, system_ext, Product and Vendor (Dont mount Odm!)
12. Open terminal from OrangeFox and type
13. chmod 0755 sdcard/Download/setrw.sh
14. ./sdcard/Download/setrw.sh
15. When the script is done flash rmcrypt.zip (If you get an error that cant mount odm or vendor then check that they are not still mounted
16. Reboot to miui and then reboot back to orangefox and check if your internal storage is decrypted
Good luck
The rmcrypt and SetRW is not my work! Big thank you to the folks over 4pda

Good work
But I think it's easier to flash dfe and format once with yes .
If any ROM changes flash only DfE without format at last step.

It's not possible in android 12 without decryption. TWRP and OFOX cannot deal with that... yet.
