Question Experience with phone in Canada or US - Xiaomi 12 Pro

Hey I ordered this phone just waiting for it to land, anybody using it in North America? What's it like with Chinese rom?

Note 5 N9208 vs N9200?

I am trying to figure out whats the difference between them , I understand one is made for china and one is for taiwan. But I wanted to know which is better, which has more bands that it supports, which would get updates faster and which could possibly run custom roms.
Thank You

I don't have any of the above models but you can take a look here if you want to see the differences : http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=8683&id2=8796
n9200 is sold in mainland china, hongkong and macao, it has two software versions, one for mainland china, one for hongkong/macao.
the one for mainland china has google framework removed, with some more chinese native apps added.
the one for hongkong has google framwork and google apps, and is good for international usage.
the two software versions share the same hardware, and can be flashed on the same phone without losing warranty.
n9208 is the southeast asia version, it's sold in taiwan, malaysia, etc.
n9200 has a little more bands than n9208, where all the bands in n9208 is included in n9200.
I would recommend you to buy the n9200 if you are choosing between the two, and if you got the mainland china version, you can flash the hongkong firmware.
btw, I got a n9200 for 4000RMB on taobao just a month ago, good and cheap.
edit: if you buy a n9200 hongkong version, you get warranty in hongkong, macao and mainland china,
if you buy a n9200 mainland chinese version, you only get warranty in mainland china.
n9208 would give you warranty in the country you brought
none have international warranty.
I got N9200 (HK version) in Japan and it's working great. :good:

Is the IBuyGou Duty Insurance something to trust? Just wondering if you will get your money back if you have to pay VAT or duty for it... Since it'll be around 130$ for me extra if they won't pay it back.
Where can I buy the pro version in Hong Kong?
seems it's gone from aliexpress pretty much on all vendor shops. wonder what's wrong...
If you live in SEA, den it is easier to get it for sure.
I think most important is if their bands are compatible with most European countries...
Do they usually release and international version of their flagships or not really?

Okok, thanks!
People who buy Chinese phones like Xiaomi, usually get the Chinese version and install Google play or they wait for the international version?

Doesn't really matter, if you get the Chinese variant you can always flash the international version of the rom, although their unlock bootloader process is a bit cumbersome. If you want it on the Chinese ROM it's not just the matter of installing Google Play, you are missing Google Services Framework so you need to get that first.

What if I buy the chinese version then apply for boatload unlock, then download international official ROM with google services framework?
I've been looking around to try and find out if it's available and can be used in Canada. I found the Canadian site http://xiaomi-mi.ca/ that claims to be an official Xiaomi site but every phone on there has a 5 star rating so I find this very suspect... I'm also not clear on the whole band thing as some companies discuss them as Band 1, band 2 and so on, and some use 1700/2100 MHz and so on. According to http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_5-6948.php the 1700/2100 band for LTE is covered.. I think it should work no problem if I read this all correctly.

Question about ordering from AliExpress

Hey guys, newbie here.
I wanna buy the P20 Pro and AliExpress have good prices for the upcoming 11.11. I didn't understand the difference between Chinese firmware and global. Will I be able to update and change language in my country (Israel) on that so called Chinese firmware? What are the difference between the two (global and Chinese)? What are the key things to know before purchasing a device from China?
Chinese firmware won't have Google Play Store and google apps.

You can after unlocking the bootloader. Also keep in mind the Chinese version don't work on certain LTE bands in some parts of the world. I bought a Chinese one and the LTE didn't work on O2 network in UK. I had to return it and get the global Mi 9, hope this helps.

The shops selling the Chinese one should have the global one as well, also check online and ebay most of the sellers selling this phone on ebay are from China, they can send you a piece on a quick delivery, keep in mind global only comes with 6gb ram and has a global rom, in order to check go to settings..... about phone and look at MIUI version it should say global, mine is "global 10.2.1 stable", hope this helps

Using SM-G9730 HK version in UK or EU

I’m thinking about buying a Hong Kong model phone unlocked in the UK from wondamobile.com
And was wondering what issues I might face with updates play store google pay Samsung pay volte just any issues I might encounter as I’m in the UK - not bothered about rooting and flashing new roms as I literally have no clue how to do either so some advice would be good
No issues here. The only thing that I figured out recently is that the stock keyboard is a bit different than on the international version. It's not really a big deal since the stock keyboard kind of suck anyway. Use Gboard
Other than that the HK version has no compatibilities issues with what you mentioned

Are you UK based - also where did you buy your hk phone
As far as I understand your Google account is based on where your created it. So if it is UK you won't have an issue with app updates. I am in Thailand and use a UK Google account and it updates fine.
You'll get the HK samsung system updates for that model rather than UK version.
The HK samsung keyboard doesn't have the option to swap languages by swiping sideways on the space bar.
Samsung pay might be the HK version?
I would check that the frequencies match the UK so that you get full LTE switching.
Expansys sell HK phones.
I personally purchased a UK version and had it sent to TH as I like the keyboard language switching and the 512GB version is not available here locally.
I wasn't fussed about Exynos or Snapdragon CPUs.
