Question Flashing Unbranded 998U1 FW on VZW S21 Ultra 5G Variant - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Good morning
I'm looking for global FW and I can't seem to find one that has bootloader version 5. My VZW phone just got an update on Jan 24 and evidently updated the BL to V.5
The most recent SM-G998U1 firmware only shows bootloader version 4. Am I just stuck? Any guidance is way appreciated!

Not sure what you mean by global FW, probably unbranded US FW.
You will just have to wait until G998U1 FW with BL 5 is released. Basically stuck until then...

That's exactly what I mean. Thank you. Seems weird that a carrier is first to release anything!

BULH (G998U1UEU5BULH) has just been released standalone check SAMMobile for G998U1
G998U is for US carrier FW
G998U1 is for unbranded US FW.
Both are interchangeable for Snapdragon US S21 Ultras
My phone is AT&T but I have been using G998U1 for a while now.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up!

I just posted a thread on how to carrier unlock the same exact phone and FW/BL you are using, this may also lead to possible BL unlock later on, but may help you for now if you just trying to use a different carrier. Otherwise, yah, you are stuck for now, can't downgrade the bootloader. (As far as I know of yet)

Thanks for all of the advice and insight. Mucho appreciado.
My goal here is to purely load the non-carrier specific FW while maintaining my ability to use VZW and still have mmWave or UWB support. Also, VZW removed the ability to do "calls on other devices" like a Samsung tablet. That feature was removed on VZW FW but worked fine on an unlocked Note 20 Ultra that I had a few months back. Loading this G998U1 FW should make it act like a direct-from-Samsung phone, right? I don't really care about an unlocked BL or unlocked SIM slot, at the moment, as I'm staying with VZW. Thanks in advance!

And just to confirm, we'd want the XAA version, yeah? That's the non-carrier-specific FW?

SamMobile has download speeds equivalent to dial-up internet, unless you pay them for a premium membership.
SamFW.com is fast and free

That is what I do, and I believe you are right. Other versions may also be same or may be just as fine, but go for unknown XAA regardless.

You are right, their free dl is slow, but the others dont have it yet, so if you need it asap, their dl is the best you can get as of today. I am sure samfw and frija will have it soon.

Incorrect. SamFW already has it. Do you really think that I would recommend a site without checking first?

Even if you're referring to your post from 10 hours ago:
Where you do think SamMobile and SamFW get the firmware from....???
They get it straight from Samsung's servers, using tools like Frija and others. So SamFW may not have uploaded it yet (as of the timestamp of your post from 10 hours ago), but if SamMobile already had it, then Frija definitely did - because that's always the first and earliest available firmware source, since it pulls straight from Samsung's servers

Thanks for everybody's help! I'm going to take the plunge here -- looking to download the modded/patched version of ODIN and flash this sucker. *fingers crossed*

If I flash this on my AT&T branded s21 ultra, will I lose any features?

This worked great on my VZW variant -> unbranded -- flash took about 3 minutes. I did do a factory reset prior to the ODIN flash just to ensure that Google or Samsung didn't have any weird reactivation-type lock on the device. Thanks again for the help!
As far as the Samsung "allow calls on other devices" option, that does NOT work on VZW, for whatever reason -- when I initiate a call via the S7 tablet, I get an error that essentially states that it "Can't Make Calls. Make sure that your phone and tablet are connected to the same wifi network." Huge bummer! I'll keep trying. I know that when I had an unlocked, direct from Samsung Note 10+ and the S6 tablet, this feature worked perfectly. Fast forward and I no longer have either device and it's not working. Any thoughts are welcomed!

I lost nothing featurewise - still getting 5G mmWave and the WiFi calling is working.

The files are no longer available. Can you repost them.
I cannot for the life of me figure out whats going wrong. I bought SM-G960UZKAXAA (US unlocked s9). I wanted VZW's advanced calling features so I put SM-G960U on the device (instead of the SM-G960UI, as it should be). I've used the special Odin and stock firmware to revert, and it seems to be successful, according to Odin, but nothing ever changes. Still get the VZW splash screen and other VZW stuff. HELP!?

Your stuck on v2 bootloader as carrier bound devices released them first
Ypu will have to wait til u1 firmware releases a update to the v2 bootloader then everything should go back as normal
can you update the links?
also, how come one person said FED 1 2018 and another person said May 1st security patch?
if this is the same U1 firmware available in other posts, why flood xda dev with so much duplicate posts?

but so far, everyone has neglected to mention that it required a modified version of Odin to allow for cross carrier firmwares to be flashed. I had to do the same with my S9 when i wanted to flash the U1 (unbranded) firmware on the S9 i got from cricket

Correct, but that's typically something the person wanting to do the process of flashing firmware on a $1k phone should research or ask about here on xda. As much as I love helping to provide information, it is best for the user that is wanting to undergo the process better educate themselves on what they are about to tackle.
If it had the likelyhood of causing a brick, I would definitely tell them straight away. But other than that, we all get a nice sense of accomplishment when we do flashing that we weren't too sure about. At least I do.?

Looking for Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Official Stock AT&T Rom for my unlocked phone

I bought a Note 9 from Amazon I thought it was an official AT&T phone but it is the unlocked version. My unlocked version does not support a number of AT&T's features I would like to have access too. I have read how to flash the Rom and I know how to do it. I downloaded a Rom which I thought was the AT&T stock rom but it was actually the same Rom I had the unlocked version. So when I flashed it it was the same as before. I think it is possible it flash the phone so that it is like I bought it from AT&T. I have seen people do this on youtube with their Galaxy note 10's. I am unable to find the Official Stock Rom or maybe I have and am unsure if it is the official one. So if anyone knows where I can get the dang official Rom so I can flash my unlocked phone and turn it into an official AT&T phone that would really help me. Thank you very much.

in fact that DID answer your question.
in sammobile, you could find your "carrier" rom version as you want, which is U, not U1 (unlock version).
then use samfirm or frija to download the rom with max speed.

So If I want to flash it too the official AT&T I should look for SM-N96OU instead of SM-N96OU1, correct? I am nervous about bricking the phone. I have read that the AT&T version and the unlocked phones are exactly the same they just have different firmware. Is this true?

I'm looking to convert my SM-N960U1 (unlocked) to the AT&T version as well. I'm seeing the following as the lastest firmware I should be downloading to convert to AT&T. Can anyone verify this because the N960U does not have AT&T firmware available?
...firmware/SM-N960U1/ATT/download/N960U1UEU4DTC7/335086/
All the U firmware is the same. If you have At&t sim you can flash any Note 9 U firmware and it will provision to your sim. If you are coming from U1 you will need to do a factory wipe. Was your device purchased as unlocked or was it U?....
Oops never mind I see its unlocked.

For some reason i feel that Sammobile its more about selling firmware software to buyers of samsung instead of helping people take the best out of their phones. Some of use pay over the 1000 dollar for a phone and dont get easy help while samsung should atleast give us the freedom to get the firmwares for our devices for free. Sam mobile has ablot of information on their website, but ofcourse nothing for free. Even signing up their websites is an issue, and to get support thats another issue. So i most say Sam mobile its all about selling Samsung software, while you and me who buy the phones, not sammobile! Resell it back to us. Seriously its discrimination in my eyes. Maybe am wrong, but thats how i feel about. Now i dont know what business relation sammobile has with samsung, but i know the founder is not a. Chinese, but a Holland guy. Thank u.

You SHOULD receive Tmobile updates once you're on Tmobile firmware and network but I don't think it's something that can be guaranteed. Your Primary CSC can't be changed to TMO and therin lies the problem. In the last couple of years Samsung has complicated firmware and CSC transitions on it's numerous array of devices. Lots of potential users lean to an unlocked device thinking they'll have more freedom of choice but it won't always end up as a benefit. I always recommend buying your service provider's device for full functionality but it doesn't always work out since some users tend to swap service provider's on a regular basis.
I'm on T-mobile's network, month to month, no long term commitment which adds flexibility but even being on their network I didn't aquire their Branded Device. I have the Hong Kong SM-G9980 variant. I couldn't care less about 5G, to me it's the biggest marketing scam since light beer. The only other feature I lose is Carrier Aggregation which much like 5G enables faster download speeds. I can easily have my laptop handle this and transfer files or data to my device. So there's no carrier bloatware, the bootloader is unlocked, I get updates from Samsung typically sooner than US devices and still have Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE via Tmobile. Most users don't do much research to define which device is best suited for their needs. "I got this great deal on an S21 Ultra but..." We can point the finger at Samsung as well, way too many variants leads to a lot of problems.

I have a carrier-locked G998U from AT&T, is this usable or do I need the proper AT&T CSC file?
I'm curious about this as well for Verizon
I used this download with a carrier locked Verizon phone with no issues

Any issues so far? I'm downloading it right now
Nope no issues as of yet, running really smooth
Works on my ATT 998U!
Reference for others - BL, AP, CP, and HOME_CSC are the same on all carrier G998U models, just leave out the USERDATA file.
So far, everything works. Sucks to have AT&T bloat again, but it will carry me until the U1 firmware is out.
Thanks, Tony!

So far as of today, looking at sammobile, the only models that haven't had their firmwares released for 13 are the U and U1, sans the US Cellular model. The U1 has 13 only if you were on beta. However, for those who have a U and flashed U1 firmware, there's no update available yet.
