OPPO Find X5 Series - What is your first impression? - OPPO Find X5 Pro Questions & Answers

OPPO posted the first preview images of the Find X5 series on their socials. What is your first impression?

My first impressions were, the new camera design and the collaboration with one of the biggest brands, hassleblad, then the ceramic back glass, it's incredible

MsCharice said:
MariSilicon X is OPPO's self-developed imaging NPU + there's a cooperation with Hasselblad.. core feature will be photography I guess, but Hasselblad has its background in lenses. They showed this moving lenses at the INNO day, that's why I think photography will be the main thing, not videography.

The only con is the loss of the Micro lens from the X3 Pro, which was, in my opinion, one of its coolest features. I'm also very curious about the Mediated 9000 performances and definitely the MariSiliconX processing.
Concerning the design, nothing very exciting so far, but the white version is the one that's catching my eyes.
I'm really waiting to see how its competing against the OnePlus 9 Pro, that has quite great camera lenses and picture processing.

Same for me, the partnership is what first blew my mind. I can't find comparison photos yet though.
Ceramic back in white is *chef's kiss*

thank you for sharing this information.

Surely it's main "competitor" will be the OnePlus 10 Pro?

I wouldn't say that you can compete against yourself, but yes, their technical sheets are so alike that the only major differences are the design itself and the OS.

Depending on the specs you base the "competition" on. I think the only thing they have that is similar is their OS - both based on Android 12. Visually, Find X5 Pro is better, though it is subjective.
What were you comparing the devices on?

Don't forget the MariSilicon X NPU.

Unimpressed, to be honest. Bought the Find X5 and the display and camera are both less vibrant than my Fund X2 Neo. It also has terrible viewing angles. The screen has a greenish hue when angled slightoy. Edge lighting doesn’t work. As for the HDR on video playback, it’s barely noticeable. Really disappointed with it, to get honest.

Oneplus 5 Vs Honor 8 Pro (Camera)....I am disappointed with OnePlus 5...

Hi,
So I recently pickedup Oneplus 5. I had Honor 8 Pro already. I was planning to sell the Honor 8 Pro and Make Oneplus 5 my daily driver. I was looking forward to "Dual Cameras. Clearer Photos"
But the moment I started snapping some pics, I was left dismayed by the sub-par, borderline poor image quality produced by on the paper very good cameras! The photos were full of noise and a lot dark! I expected good low light performance from a 1.7 aperture lens but in reality, the camera kept pushing the ISO and shutter speed to really high levels in very good and well lit conditions as well!
The night shots were so bad I didn't even bother keeping them. Why does such a GOOD on paper camera take such crappy photos? The fine detail is smudged up. The dynamic range is horrendous, HDR or no HDR. The lights get blown out and the darks are too dark to keep any details! Most pics come under exposed.
I am really disappointed. And from the research I did afterwards (I wish I had done it before...). It seems its an open-secret and Oneplus aren't really keen on fixing it...
Please check this Album. I have taken similar photos with Honor 8 Pro and then Oneplus 5.
I might add more later.
Let me know which one is better...

Of course I have to sell one. As much as I like the dash charging, Better codec support, and amoled screen (night reading)...I am really torn to part with such a good camera phone.

i don't know dude those pics look weird n funky , n even if the op5 cam is bad it ain't THAT bad as shown in the pics , i'm really confused
To me the pictures looks ok, but I do not expected a professional picture from a smartphone camera :good: as I it always said to a friend of mine that always trolled smartphone cameras, if you want high quality and professional looking pictures buy a professional camera

Always an excuse to feel better about your expense...
Well. I am not asking for PROFESSIONAL looking picture. See the other phone I posted has 4 less mega pixels. An aperture of 2.2 compared to 1.7. But still it takes sharper and less noisy images with greater detail and colour accuracy.
Lol just go back to the honor 8 pro then? I dont know how those photos came up that crappy but I get decent shots on the one plus 5. Try usin gcam.
Not sure what's to complain about. It's a cell phone camera of course it's gonna be pretty crappy. What about everything else about the phone? I get 8-9 hours sot every day no matter what I do on it. I think that more than makes up for a camera.
I Took this with my op5 and it's better than all of your pictures. Go get a professional camera and a flip phone.

I think that stupid argument has already been raised by one person. What are you comparing that shot against?
If you had a Honor 8 pro. You would have gotten a better version of it.
So please if you have nothing to contribute, stop barking non sense. I can also take great shots using mods and what not then tweak them on PC and post.
Edit: And if you consider complaining about poor camera performance on a flagship with 'Dual cameras. Clearer photos' tagline; then you should get the Fanboy of the year award!
All i see is SALT these days.

Well you say ".. if you have nothing to contribute, stop barking non sense." , so.. what did you contribute besides saying that your honor is SO much better than an OP and just showing up Pictures where I dont think that an OP5 would shot SUCH bad shots and also These are just random shots where also half of These look very similar to me.
Also, you know, this is the OnePlus 5 Guides, News, & Discussion Forum, so yeah this is neither some News nor a Guide and also no Discussion as ist just plain complaining from your side.
So to contribute for the forum and all the People here im going to Report this thread and hope that other People do this too.
It's definitely not a secret that One Plus has a terrible camera app. My $150 Samsung Galaxy J3 could take better pictures, especially in low light. If the camera app on the OP5 wasn't such utter crap there wouldn't be a very long thread on XDA filled with people using the Google Pixel camera app on this phone. The OP5 is never going to be a good camera phone. One Plus only supports Camera 1 API which is very dated and limited. Google introduced the Camera 2 API on the Nexus 5X which I think was running Marshmallow.
If you want proof the camera will never be fixed just look at the 5T. One Plus did not tout that as a great camera phone like they did with the OP5. One Plus also ditched the telephoto lense in favor of a low light lense because they don't know how to fix the software issue with the OP5 camera. Like you said on paper the OP5 has great camera hardware. But One Plus doesn't have the talented software engineers that could actually take advantage of it.
I can't see myself buying another One Plus phone because I think they are a terrible company. Whatever phone One Plus releases is based on a model from Oppo. The difference? The One Plus version will have better on paper hardware specs and the Oppo version will have far better build quality. The Oppo version will also take much better pictures.
The build quality of the OP5 is lousy. My first one was unusable after about 3 months because of a defective motherboard and even though the phone was under warranty One Plus customer service and warranty repair is so horrible the only way I could get a working phone was to file an insurance claim and pay $150 deductible.
I was sent a brand new replacement phone and right out of the box the headphone jack was bad. I had to switch to Bluetooth because wired headphones don't work--the headphone plugs fall right out of the jack.
Then there's OOS. It's the programming equivalent of a custom ROM that you might flash on another phone. I do a clean flash every time there is a build update because dirty flashes consistently resulted in problems. A stock ROM should not be coded that poorly but it's an open secret that One Plus lost all of its best software engineers and the talent drain forced them to combine development of Oxygen and Hydrogen (the Chinese operating system) under one roof and all the programmers they have left are from the Hydrogen side. The problem with that is that One Plus is a very minor brand in Asia so they don't attract the best talent.
There aren't even plans to release an official version of Lineage Oreo for this phone. The OP5 was only sold for 4 months. If One Plus doesn't care about this phone why should major software devs?

No. zoom is used. And you can see the difference clearly in both the pics.
And the pic you've posted. Is that supposed to be an example of Oneplus 5's great image quality? Cause I see ton of noise and smudged detail.

Edit: Added another pic...?
The softness of Oneplus 5 main cam pics is a known issue (aka water colour effect); I have compared the pics from OP5 with LG G6 and Samsung Note 4. (My opinion = Note 4 was best). I was as disappointed as you are now, i suppose. However, since I had no choice but to use OP5, I found certain workarounds. Hopefully they'll help you too.
1) ALWAYS use manual mode for normal photos! (no need to tweak any settings, keep all on auto. Manual mode apparently doesn't use the same compression algo that main cam does => sharpness increased & noise reduction improved)
2) Check out the 100% jpeg mod in the forum. It's really works
3) Don't zoom in on every pic. I know it sounds silly but it's like a psychological itch you must scratch - don't. On the whole, the pics are pretty awesome if you just enjoy them as they are and not analyse too deep.
Cheers!
PS : Apologies for not being able to post comparison pics, I don't have those phones anymore. Just take my word for it

Yes. I have found out that manual mode takes more cleaner pics compared to auto.
I am using the Gcam mod and it actually does some justice to the sensor on Oneplus 5!
I was thinking of using the 100% quality mod but I read it makes the file size really large.
I don't use the zoom feature though.
Thanks for understanding my perspective.

Is the camera really that bad?

I'm curious because I've read that a lot of people don't like the camera. Why is that? I'm not sure if I should buy that phone.

The point and shoot is second to none.
The pro and night modes are both second to none..
Telephoto lens is superb
Only thing is say ia better is HDR on the pixel.
Besides that the p20 Pro stands alone. Even against late 2018 phones.
Unbeatable point & shoot camera performance. Never seen a camera fair that well on phone before.
Pixel 3 camera is very good but not as refined or versatile as the Huawei system.
If you don't know how to tame it, you will not like it. But if you can tame it and know the capabilities and limitations of the sensor, you will love it!
I'm having a blast with it, because i know how it works inside out and now i can push it to it's limits.
/ Magnus
I love it
The thing I don't like is that I often get blurry images if I point and shoot
Hello,
For "HDR" effect, yu can use "night mode" in the day time. Otherwise I love the camera... competely... Have been using this phone on daily bases for 3 months and I'm astonished.

You got your hands on Pixel 3 already? Weird I thought they're not supposed to deliver until sometime later.
Not at all, There is a entire thread showing the amazing photos this phone can deliver, this phone camera is versatile, it has the best nightmode out there, the best zoom, and the main 40mp sensor can capture a lot of detail, Last night i manage to take a photo of a lighting (https://i.imgur.com/32TxPqG.jpg).
a flicker with P20 pro photos :
https://www.flickr.com/groups/[email protected]/
Yea, i love the P20 pro camera and night mode is freaking awesome! Only negative things i can think off is no stabilization on 4k video and the selfie cam could be a bit better but besides these 2 i think this camera is pretty much the best you can get right now for a cheap price.
for me it doesn't matter what i read or what other peoples say.
The camera of this phone is insane. Especially the night mode. Never saw something like this. Night shots looks brighter than with the human eye?
The only thing i don't like is the post processing of the camera app (oversharpening)
P20 Pro camera is neither bad, nor cheap, but both of those are highly subjective opinions. And you know what they say about opinions....
I am enjoying mine very much.

The front/selfie camera is what most people are complaining about, esp. the color saturation. It gives a plasticy color to human skin.
The main camera is superb.
The camera is really bad on this phone.
Pictures are so over processed and lake dynamic range.
In 10mpx it's inusable and in 40mpx il't noisy. Video recording is also bad.
This phone is just horrible. My olds S8+ and Xiaomi Mi9t are much better except for zooming and low light. S9+ destroys completely the p20 pro.
I really regret my purchase.

I cannot second that. The only thing i can complain about is video recording.
Main shooter is more than capable to take great pics. It's incomparably better than op 7t.
The camera quality on this phone is really good. Anyone who says it's crap is objectively wrong.
The camera quality in the p20 pro still today better than many flagship, more than one year later, I compare the camera with the recents iPhone 11 pro max, pixel 4, mate 30 pro, samsung note 10, and it's nothing to envy of them, the kirin 970 is slower in games, but is smooth and very fast still
what is the best siting of camera ? in 10 m pixel or 40m pixel ?
Depend on the situation, with good daylight 40, 10 if you don't want big pictures files, for zoom, night and difficult light conditions better 10, normally I use 10, because Huawei optimized the software and the cams to work together in this setup, working main, telephoto and monochrome camera sensor together for improvement results

Hi guys. I need an advise on wich phone to choose Mi 9T pro or Redmi note 8 pro. I'm not a heavy gamer. For me most important is camera, battery and community support (yes i know about 8 Pro Helio soc). Watched many videos in YouTube and still can't decide which device to choose. Seems both have a good camera's and decent battery life. Help me to choose ?

My biggest influences was that I didn't want a notch or punch hole and wanted to ensure a decent level of custom ROM support.
It sounds like MTK are looking to be a bit more dev friendly, but personally I would want to see that happen first before considering an MTK device.

What about camera between these two? I prefer better camera over notch/punch hole (i don't like those too) but community support Is most important for a long term usage...
Maybe i have to wait a bit longer and see what will happen with 8 Pro and development.

The jury is out, with regards the camera. DXOmark didn't think it was anything special. There is a limit to how many pixels you can cram in such a tiny space and I reckon the Samsung ISOCELL chip had pushed things too far. It will be relying, too much, on post processing to remove the noise. Keeping around the 48MP range of the Sony and of their earlier ISOCELL sensor (so 12MP effective for most shots), with the larger sensor size could have given them a sweet spot.

Camera quality between K20 Pro and OP 7 Pro

I'm planning to buy a new phone with better custom ROM support, but confused between these two - K20 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro. The price of both phones are at different extends.
So if the K20 Pro has better or comparable quality in the camera section against OP 7 Pro I would definitely go for K20 Pro and can save money for others. Please share your thoughts on this.
OP 7 pro has better camera, but K20 pro camera isn't not bad at all for day to day normal shots taking, if you're a camera guy then it's OP > K20
Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk
The only real reason to get OP 7 Pro over K20 is for OIS. Makes a real difference during low light and while shooting video.
Wide-angle camera is also a little better and has manual focus. During day time, you won't get much difference cause both have same main sensor. GCam fixes most of the color inconsistencies for both phones.
If you plan on shooting at night time, I highly suggest you go for OnePlus. Even the 7T has OIS so that's a good middle ground [and has 2x zoom instead of 3x].
You shouldn't believe anything you read in the tech press about OnePlus phones--especially what you read on XDA.
OnePlus fired all of the programmers who created Oxygen after OnePlus Marshmallow and moved all coding to the Hydrogen team in China to save money.
Hydrogen was supposedly the Chinese ROM for OnePlus phones--but since OnePlus doesn't actually sell phones in China they were programming a ROM nobody used.
Since Oxygen Nougat coding on OnePlus phones has been completely inept--a fact that is widely known among developers and software engineers but not discussed on XDA.
The last OnePlus phone developers actually used was the OP3T--which was the last OnePlus phone released before the Oxygen programmers were fired.
All development for OnePlus phones is artificially sustained by OnePlus who gives free phones to developers since they would never spend their own money on OnePlus devices.
Since developers don't actually use OnePlus phones as their daily driver ROMs and kernels for OnePlus phones are compiled. These ROMs always have bugs--any build of any custom ROM for a OnePlus phone always has bugs even if it's supposedly stable.
Since OnePlus ROMs are compiled by developers who don't use the phones daily themselves multiple ROMs will often have the exact same bugs at the same time. Someone will post code to fix the bug on GitHub and if the code is approved all of the devs for the various ROMs will incorporate the same code into their own ROMs.
Usually developers of OnePlus custom ROMs don't know there are bugs in their "stable" ROMs until users report them and these bugs are sometimes serious enough to affect the basic functionality of the phone.
I personally used "stable" OnePlus custom ROMs that wouldn't boot up beyond the splash screen, where the ability to make or receive calls was broken, where Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS was broken, where opening the settings or trying to make a call would completely crash the UI--you get the idea--and this was all on ROMs that were labeled as stable.
Because the firmware on OnePlus phones is ineptly coded it's impossible to take decent pictures without using the ported Google Camera App--a $200 phone from Samsung or Xiaomi takes better pictures than a $700 OnePlus phone using the native OnePlus Camera app.
OnePlus phones are overpriced and ineptly coded--phones from Xiaomi and Honor are a much better value.
Don't read too much into the above post.
As far as hardware is concerned, there is not much difference between the 2, with the exception of OIS being added to the OP phone. Both have the same Sony sensor as the main module, but OP have slightly better secondary modules.
Software wise Xiaomi seem to be ahead of OP, in terms of computational photography. As I see it, Google and Huawei are way ahead, with Samsung third and probably Xiaomi 4th when it comes to computational photography.
So OP edge the camera hardware, but Xiaomi edge the camera software.
I also in confusion about these two phones.
Finally Op cancelled only for Headphone jack.

Already checked, viewed videos and read many articles. But I want to hear from real people besides reviews, that's why I'm asking.
- are the images great with the photos taken with GCam?
- does the EIS work with all three cameras? or with any camera?
- if the K20 Pro is compared to OnePlus 6T in camera how do you rate them?

- GCam makes colors match up closely. Night mode is minorly better on the OP, but for a casual user it's not incredibly noticeable. Astrophotography is just as good as on any other phone. Main cameras are the same on both phones (48MP Sony), while wide angle is minorly better on the OP (imo, not enough of a quality difference to justify price difference)
- EIS works with main camera on both phones in GCam, OP has OIS on main camera as well. Neither phone can take wide angle video in gcam. OP can't take wide angle video in stock, K20 Pro can.
- K20 Pro is very significantly better than 6T. It matches with the OP 7 Pro much better.

Thank you so much for the details mate. But unfortunately I'll be buying a pre-owned OnePlus 7T tomorrow. A deal is almost confirmed. I found a couple of things of 7T better for me than K20 Pro. The motorized pop-up camera is one I don't like in K20 Pro, and that's why I'm not even picking 7 Pro, which I can get in the same range. Also I love the 90Hzv display.
These things are too personal and I won't say that K20 Pro is not a good one. It's a great device and I should have brought earlier once but I didn't have money that time.
Anyways thanks again for the detailed information.
EDIT: Just dropped the deal because of unreliability.
I just use GCam and it's miles better than the stock op7

Question New updates to Camera?

Guys, I am planning to get this phone. From the reviews, I have seen about this camera and for the short time I had a look at all the pictures taken from the Vivo X70 Pro (not plus) I am quite impressed. There are a few reviews that pointed out some minor stabilization issues on front camera and other minor issues like the output of image quality at times slipping out.
I am just curious to know from the users about the general opinion on the photographic and video prowess of the phone and had there been any new updates/fixes to the camera software from October 2021 that might have improved the camera even further.
thank you all in advance!
Sany
I would like that there was the possibility of using the gimbal camera in external applications to be able to do stabilized live streaming.

The back camera is top of the line, in my experience better than most out phones out there, if not the best. Front camera is decent in 98% of the situations, it may under perform in some areas like when under direct light etc, but not as bad as people describe it in reviews. Overall, money well spent.

None as for as Funtouch OS is concerned. They have a huge scope to imporve on Software lines like Google Phone. But Vivo is very cautious about using its Camera Beast.
I tried horizontal line stabilization today and was amazed.
Holding the phone horizontally, walking without holding it straight, a stabilized video came out.

Not by a lot, origin os here, but not many things I would like to be changed. Improvements yeah, eventually they will come. But it is currently a beast!
They actually removed a lot of third party support in Ocean OS. No 10bit support, no stable 50fps, only main lens in filmic pro since the update. If you care about Filmic Pro and mcpro24fps Id suggest not to update.
The Vivo Camera is rock stable as ever but it eats A LOT of battery for video. If you use the normal camera app the phone is still a beast.
