[Android 12] Bluetooth microphone not working anymore - Google Pixel 4a 5G Questions & Answers

Hi everyone!
Pixel 4a 5g, February 2022 update, both of my bluetooth earphones (Melomania Touch & Melomania 1+) work...but not the microphone. No problem with Android 11.
The microphone doesn't work with phone calls, WhatsApp, Signal etc., my phone only uses it's native microphone, not the bluetooth one.
Am I the only one?
Thanks for your help!

I have the same issue. I haven't been on xda for about 10 years so my phone is stock. I called Google and they couldn't figure it out. If you find anything please let me know! Thanks

Actually...it was working...it's just the Signal app on Android which doesn't use the bluetooth microphone.

I Have just bought a Huawei P7 and i have an issue with the bluetooth when wanting to use the audio bluetooth either in my car (though my Parott device) or through the bluetooth speaker. Both are working perfectly with my Samsung tablet and i can hear easily the music through bluetooth..

Hi there,
thanks alot for your reply and i have followed your advice, i've upgraded my ROM to the latest EMUI 3.0 P7-L10V.........B609 on Android 4.4.2 and still i have the same problem.
I've checked if it was a compatibility problem with my bluetooth device in my car and i have linked it with the Huawei Honor 6 (belong to a friend of mine) which is newer (based also on the latest EMUI 3.0) and it works perfectly.....the audio bluetooth works perfectly!!!
For my case, there is only a standard bluetooth that works in my car which means answering and calling phone calls, but listening to my music from my P7, it doesn't work at all!!!
Any other solutions you might suggest?
Many thanks

Fix Bluetooth Audio - For Calling or Answering Via HandsFree
Hi!, if u have problem answering or making a Call via Bluetooth Audio, the source are Google Now.
To fix this issue go to Google Now configuration -> Voice -> "Ok Google" Detection -> And disable: On Google App and others features.
Then restart your phone and have Fun!

Jecaros, almost threw out my P7. This did the trick after trying almost everything (rom updates, factory reset,..). In my car "Media audio" wasn't showing so I figured some other app was hijacking this service.

Thanks!

Blu R1 HD Bluetooth Issues

I'm new to xda. I installed TWRP and removed OTA updates and Amazon ads on my phone. I'm on kernel version 3.18.19+.
I am trying to connect the phone to my Chevy Volt and play music via bluetooth. This worked fine with my iPhone.
The phone connects to the car, but I don't hear any music. In addition, when I connect it via USB, music still doesn't play through the stereo. Any ideas?

I had Bluetooth issue like you decribe once with this phone. I rebooted and problem didnot come back. As far as through USB I don't think that works with any Android. I could be wrong in that though

I tried to reboot several times, but it didn't seem to resolve the issue. I can make phone calls through the car bluetooth, but no audio. And additional suggestions would be appreciated!

Lol, sorry, I just had to chuckle blame it on the chevy. :silly: I know they did some Bluetooth fixes in M 6.0.1, just kinda hard to narrow it down. I have audio issues transmitting to my Bluetooth receiver on my home surround, but that thing is like 5 years old.... I'm still looking for a solution though, I'll chime in if I find anything that works for me. My issues are stuttering and random loss of connection
Just wanted everyone to know that I solved the problem. There was a firmware update for the Chevy Volt to enable Android Auto. Once the dealer applied the update, bluetooth streaming is working. Awesome!
BTW -- Android Auto works really well!

BT keeps stopping

I just noticed that phone is not connected to my bmw car kit most of the time, because BT keeps stopping. Now this is a show stopper for me. This seems like yet another cheap Chinese device which has nothing to do with Nokia.

Any other people who have the same problem? I do need BT all day for headset and connection to an OBD-device..
Gesendet von meinem EVA-L19 mit Tapatalk
I'm connected all day and night to a Xiaomi Mi-Band 2. BT never disconnects from it.
Also when I'm driving, I connect to a 2nd device which is an MPOW bluetooth receiver connected to the car's aux port. Also never experienced the BT stopping or dropping the devices (2 simultaneously, yes, using Oreo beta).
Dunno if this helps or qualifies to compare what you're experiencing.
I experience the same Bluetooth disconnections while using my Parrot carkit. Unusable for now. Running on Nougat oct security update
People report about car connection in other phones too, I think it's might be a OS problem. For me I use bluetooth headphone, never get disconnected. But sometimes have audio drop out when moving.
I have a slightly old ford kit.
Yes Bluetooth on it seems a hit or a miss. Connects and the audio comes for a few seconds and then just stops. Calls or audio just stops to work
I would like to blame the phone since my old Nokia 808 and galaxy S6 work fine but my brother's one plus 3 has the same problem.
Bluetooth audio plays just fine over my Volkswagen stereo BUT the play/pause/skip doesn't work and the song info (metadata) doesn't display.
Really frustrating as it was working so well before on my Huawei P9.
I'm running 7.1.1, really hope Oreo comes quick to fix this ?

This was the not very useful advice from Nokia support.
You may have guessed that it didn't work and I'm back using my Huawei... Looks like this phone will be going back to the seller by the end of the week.
Unless Oreo magically comes to save the day. Anyone want to place a bet?
Nokia implemented Bluetooth version 5 so maybe there is a compatibility issue.

Thanks but it was my understanding that Bluetooth versions are backwards compatible? It's a 2012 car stereo and I've tested 2 other Nougat 7.1.X devices which work perfectly.
Music does play from the Nokia but it's the controls and song info that is missing.
I'm back to using my Huawei P9 as my daily driver because of it
So it seems as if there are mostly problems when running Nougat, while it's working under Oreo.
Will watch this thread before going for a new handset. Quite unsure between Mate 10 non-pro, Nokia 8 and OnePlus 5/5t. Dual-SIM is absolutely necessary for me, in Germany they use band 20 (800 MHz) in many areas. As I'm using a Samsung Gear S3 and that OBD-device in my car and furthermore a BT headset, a bigger battery or more efficient device is what I'm looking for.
Seems as if this is getting hard to decide...
sent directly from my mind using my upper extremities..
I'm seeing issues on Nokia 8 with Ford audio in my van. It's not that it disconnects, but when skipping to next / previous song in Play Music, progress indicator continues to move, but no audio comes out unless turn off Bluetooth and back on. Happens when using onscreen skip button, or steering wheel skip buttons. Same worked fine with Nexus 6.

I am using my Nokia 8 for about a week with Ford Ranger (about one year old) and completely there is no any issues.
Regards
A workaround (of sorts) for me is to cycle through the inputs in the car dash (bluetooth, aux-in, fm1, fm2, dab, then back to Bluetooth) which brings audio back and the skip/next buttons work as intended.
Should also clarify that it is not just Play Music. Same issue in Castbox, so not app specific.
Fired up the Nokia 8 last night and see there's a November security patch being rolled out.
This seems to bring my kernel version up to Nov 9 - hopefully this might have an effect on the Bluetooth compatibility and stability?
Haven't had a chance to test it yet but it's going back on Saturday morning if not fixed...

I have only connection problems with my Parrot 3100 carkit. Connection drops when calling. Bluetooth connection drops randomly. Stays connected when not calling. No issues with other Bluetooth devices.
The November update did not solve the carkit issue. Unfortunately. My hopes are on Oreo..

External Microphone on 3.5MM audio Jack not working - Headphones worked!

Hello Guys,
I been searching alot in the forum and I can't seems to find a solution for this yet. Maybe I got too confuse after reading some threads here.
nevertheless, I just wanted to make sure that my external Microphone would work with the 3.5mm Audio input jack. I have tested the same mic with the correct cable and it works with my 1Plus5T / Samsung Note8 how ever no luck with the K20Pro.
Do I need to root the phone and use Magisk to fix this issue?
I am currently on INDIA Raphaline rom 10.3.5 I believe
please don't shot me guys.

I just received my Mi 9T Pro a few days ago and was researching this. Don't have a mic yet so haven't been able to try it. I guess evidently it will work with Open Camera as there's a setting for that. But I'm trying to see if it works with Gcam mods. I found this video but it's for the Gcam stock app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cNyep1vADY Please let us know if you find anything.

Just got my Mi 9T Pro a week ago and just bought a mic the other day but haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'll let you know. I think Open Camera has a setting for external mics. Gcam has a setting that pops up when a mic is inserted, but that's the stock software. Not sure if Gcam mods do. See above for video link.
Just saw this article that says an external mic won't work. Not sure how accurate it is. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...ortant-video-feature/articleshow/70339311.cms
Same issue here. Discord with an external mic is not working, but in the miui recorder app it is. Did you try that?
I'm pretty sure its a MIUI bug since one year ago the poco f1 had exactly the same issue and it got fixed via update.

Sorry for the confusion. So my phone Mic is fine. When i plug in my headphones ( Samsung akg s8 ones with a external mic), the phone detects the headphones with external mic but the mic on the headphones doesn't work but I can hear music, voice calls through my headphones. Just the other person can't hear me through the headphone mic. Tried with the recorder app etc. The mic on the headphone doesn't work
I have tried 2 samsung headphones and 1 apple headphones. All with the same issue.
Tried all the headphones on another phone and all the headphones and mic work perfectly.
Does it need specific xiaomi mi headphones to work or something?

No, definitely not. Mine is some old one from oppo find 7, I think.
Thats weird that it doesn't work for you in the recorder app though, cause for me it does. Its just voicechat applications like discord for example which don't work.. and it really annoys me.
We should definitely report it to xiaomi via the feedback section at the bottom of the settings.
edit: seems like it is a known issue already

I have been hearing different views from various folks on this forum. I have the Indian version of the K20Pro and i can confirm that the mic of an external headset (earphones or headphones) does not work. I can however listen to music and also hear the opposite person talk where i receive a call. However the opposite person cannot hear me - which is indicative that the mic does not work (or there is an issue)
On the positive side though, i flashed Revolution OS and this problem seems to have been fixed. I can now use any earphones (or headphones) to take calls and the opposite person can now hear me. I am doing an entirely clean flash (fastboot) now to check if that works on the latest Indian version too.

I suspect it is an issue with the global firmware. If may want to try some of the Chinese ones to see if that has solved this issue as most of the custom ROMs are based on the Chinese FW
Edit:
I have been running Custom MIUI with Chinese FW so far. Just did a clean fastboot of the indian version 10.3.5.0 and guess what - the mic works for calls!! Very strange as it definately did not work for me out of the box

Some feedback, but probably not what you want to hear:
Had a similar problem with Signal - old headset worked fine on HTC-U11+ stock, on the K20 pro there was no microphone (callee said no sound at all) even though headset with mic was detected. A temporary solution was to partially pull out the plug which caused the K20P to show headphones only headset connected and I guess it used the phone mic.
However I purchased a Xiaomi headset which worked fine from the start, detecting headset with microphone and callee said mic quality was much better. Seems they may have pulled an Apple move and used non-standard pin connectors
Currently on 9.9.6 Xiaomi.eu ROM, K20Pro CN version (purchased in China) 8/128Gb version.

For me it was Signal which was not working with the external headset mic, but then worked perfectly when I used the Xiaomi one. (not an advert, yet I really do like the Xiaomi headset (in-ear) and I am not unhappy that I purchsed it)
Also, and its been a long while since I had the Find 5, I seem to vaguely recall there was similar issues with headsets & micrphones on the early Find phones - maybe Xiaomi and Oppo use the same jack supplier?

Bluetooth microphone stopped working for everything except phone calls

Hi,
Since a few weeks I have a very annoying issue with my Note 9. The phone stopped using the microphone of a bluetooth device for all apps. It still uses the mic of BT for phone calls...
I have tested it with the following apps: Zoom , Teams, Skype and Whatsapp (voice). And also for recording video and the Samsung voicerecorder.
All of these apps worked perfect until a few weeks ago.
I have tested to following devices: my Sony MX1000 headphone, an old Jabra earset, a new JBL in-ear set and also my bluetooth carkit in the car.
All of these devices still work perfect with the phone of my wife.
And all of these devices use their microphones making phone calls.
Around the time it stopped working I started to use a Huawei GT2. So I installed their Health app. On the same day I recieved my JBL earphones. Not sure if that has anything to do with this issue.
I have done a factory reset twice. No luck...
The helpdesk of Samsung can't help. They advise to do a reset... Again...
It drives me totally crazy!
Is their anyone that can provide me some help?
Kind regards,
Peter
PS. I heard that Android 11 has a microphone switcher... Unfortunately the Note9 will never receive this version of Android.
same issue with my mi 10t pro,i think there is also some issue with your phone's mic
