Question How is that possible? - OPPO Find X3 Neo

Hello guys.. i bought oppo find x3 Neo 5G .
The problem is with (Vodafone) oppo find x3 neo vs normal oppo find x3 neo (Eu) is that after unboxing i couldn't take any updates on (Eu) version.
I realised that after checking my friend's (Vodafone) version i was 3 updates behind.
I tried to update but i couldn't take any ..
So i tried vpn (France) .
An update started to come after using vpn but France vpn gave me only 1 update...
The others 2 updates i got them from Spain vpn.
Oppo says not using VPN etc for taking updates ( but i dont understand why).
Does anyone knows why i couldn't take any updates from the first place when i was 3 versions behind? (Before i use vpn)?
I live in Greece

I had to contact their support and give them mi IMEI to get the update to ColorOS 12. I received the update the day after I submitted my IMEI.

Hi, i have the same issue and after MANY months i finally found the unfortunate solution... maybe the same thing happened to us both. There is very few information about this model overall, on the internet, and had a hard time finding out anything. I've also tried all the VPN around the globe with no success and even contacted Oppo, even they had no clue whats wrong. They did the IMEI thing and nothing happened.
What i found out:
My Find X3 Neo is sadly a "sample" device (or prototype, alpha, test device), which means it cannot ever be updated through OTA. These devices have been sent out by Oppo to developers and similiar people to test the hardware. They are not allowed to sell those phones afterwards but unfortunately, some of those make their way to the market. Like, semi-illegal. The devices are top-notch, there is no difference, it performs incredibly (in my case) but i'm stuck on Android 11 with a security-patch of 2021. The software is somewhat "locked" at this state and runs a trial or alpha-version.
You can check this if the current installed ColorOS version says "PRE..." or "TRIAL".
I bought mine on eBay from a merchant as "almost new", and the device was basically unused, just the box was opened before. The phone runs perfectly, there is no problem with anything, it just doesn't update for god's sake.
Last but not least, there might be a way to manually update but its connected with high risk: flashing a ROM manually. Following a tutorial, it sounds easy, but chances are high it could destroy and hard-brick the phone with absolutely no help in sight because there is just SO less info/content about the Find X3 Neo. At this point i'm unsure if its worth trying as long as it runs well.

Phone recommendation

Hello guys
I'm going to change my phone soon(using an honor 8 right now)
I'm searching for a phone that has an OLED display and that is waterproof and that has also wireless charging if possible
I don't want to buy a Samsung phone nor any other brand that take ages to update from Android version year to year
(I now that Google exist but my searches are all flooded with news website saying that X phone will have this but not that coming at Y date)
I'm OK with every UI the seller might put in the phone (I love Huawei EMUI)

Someone please sell me a P20 Pro Dual Sim with unlocked bootloader. Please.

Hey guys
Im looking for a new phone currently and the only one which suits me is apparently a P20 Pro.
I want to use Xposed (im still on a Moto Z with Marshmallow (rip Qwerty Keyboard Mod I bought this phone for -.-)) but Im not sure what the current situation is. As far as I can tell, Xposed on Pie isnt quite working yet, so I was trying to look for a phone which is still on Oreo, or where there is a functioning Oreo ROM for.
But since the latest Huawei debacles with unlock Codes and such, Im very confused what to do.
If I buy a new P20 Pro, it comes with 8.1 on the box, but I cant buy unlock codes anymore? If I buy a used one, it might has 9.0 on it, but I cant use Xposed with it then, besides also no unlock codes?
Is there anyone willing to sell me a used P20 Pro with open bootloader, please? I would very much appreciate that! If it comes already rooted on a 8.x ROM even better!
Please!
Cheers

Are you sure it has 30Watt charger? Since I read somewhere that tencent version has got 18Watt charger while 512GB version comes with 30Watt charger.
Also Keep in mind if you going to buy from China, then be aware that there is unofficial tencent versions out there being sold with WW ROM instead of CN ROM and that makes your phone won't be receiving any OTA. So make sure you buy official one that comes with correct ROM.
My suggestion is to look for global 128GB/8GB tencent version that is official by Asus and not Chinese version.
Not last but least if you buy a Chinese version with WW ROM then return it asap and request a refund since that device won't have any valid warranty because of it using WW ROM and not CN ROM.
That is because seller who got the device has opened it and tampered with it which probably voided the warranty since he unlocked the bootloader. Asus themselves have stated on their forum about unofficial tencent versions are being sold with WW ROM which you should avoid since warranty won't be valid on them.
Also box from seller will be sealed again, so you will think it's been untouched.

According to following picture I found.
That I attached to this post it shows you tencent version from China has 18Watt not 30Watt charger and your friend is probably using official ROM then. Which is CN unless he has got global version.
It's actually fairly simple. This is regardless of whether it's the Tencent (China) model or not.
If it's the 8GB model, it'll have the 18W charger, the rectangular box and fewer LTE bands.
If it's the 12GB model (regardless of storage size), it'll have the 30W charger, the prism box and a greater number of LTE bands.
For what it's worth, I have the 8gb Tencent version and I'm in the US and use it with AT&T. Works fantastic and it's the best phone I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot). It does NOT receive OTA updates, but if you don't mind rooting to change the device fingerprint, you can then flash the updates as they are released (you can also unroot after the fingerprint is changed if you wish and still retain the ability to manually flash updates).
The 8GB version supports 3 out of the 9 bands used by ATT so you'll get some coverage but it'll be degraded compared to a phone with all the bands (less speed and more dead spots).
Okay to make things clear he told me he received an update once he unboxed it , will he be able to receive next upates .? Its 30 watt charger in rectangular box which i find kinda different from any other version , How to know the difference from the box its self before i buy

Reason why you aren't getting OTA is because you got unofficial tencent Version with WW ROM. So then bootloader has been unlocked and seller has reflashed it with WW ROM. Which has also voided your warranty.

Please re-read my post. There is no way he has got a 30Watt charger. Tencent version only comes with 18Watt charger

Yup I know, and I'm perfectly fine with all that. Still hands down the best phone money can buy in the $500 range.

Depends where you live. In my area AT&T only uses four LTE bands: 2, 4, 12, and 17, and every tower seems to always have at least bands 2 or 4. The ROG 2 Tencent supports bands 2 and 4. So I get excellent coverage and speeds typically average 20 to 30 Mbps down and 10 mbps up, though I have seen as high as 80 Mbps down. My previous phone was a Samsung Note 5 also on AT&T and I've seen no coverage or speed difference with my ROG 2.
I am sure he got 30 watt charger i’ve seen it with my own eyes and he received an update onece he unboxed it and it is tencent version in rectangular box , works just fine and thats y i am worried like it’s different version , keep in my works fine with my local carriers, n i am in 3rd world country if that maynmske any sencen

Read the description on it. I bet it will say 18Watt and not 30Watt. Secondly they can look similar design
On the description it says max 3A ,max 30 watt i just checked again

Then he has got either unofficial one from China if that's where he bought his from or he has got global 128Gb version. So then it maybe does come with 30Watt charger.
So ask him where he bought the global version from. Don't buy China version
If it's 30w, it's just a case of the seller opening up the box, taking out the original 18w charger and replacing it with a 30w charger. Some sellers bundle it that way instead of giving the boxed version of the 30w charger. Some other sellers instead bundles the case, or the aerocooler. Depends on who sells it.
If the back is Tencent, the box is rectangle - It's Tencent. Period. The accessories can be anything else, it's just a matter of what the seller decides to sell the ROG with. It will probably still work fine for you, just whether you would prefer to have the peace of mind with a warranty or not. As for updates, just download it from Asus's website into phone root directory, and the phone will automatically update during restart.

Seller should not break seal on the box when it comes from the manufacture. Doing changes to the content with the phone makes the box unofficial. Since it did not come with correct content that it should have.
Never buy a device off a seller that has broken the sealing and then done changes since that is big no and risks are then more likely you got Chinese version with WW ROM which is then unofficial and have no warranty.
Asus themselves have warned about sellers out there are editing the devices by changing its ROM from Chinese to WW ROM and doing that needs bootloader unlock and that voids the warranty.

I agree with everything you say Jake - Albeit that being here at Asia for 15+ years taught me that market situation differs quite a bit in third world countries (or developing countries in Asia). Happy to explain long-form if you're curious.
All else being equal, yea warranty would be real nice to have in the long run.

NFC problem

Hi everybody!
I have a problem on my Sony xz3 I bought one month ago and I just realized NFC was "not supported", as nfc check says.
In configuration, there is a nfc menu but nothing in it.
I didn't modify anything and I bought it re furnished.
Do you think there is something I could try before asking an exchange?
Hope to hear from you soon
Laurent
chances are that it is a Japanese vibrant of the phone and was flashed to a other region firmware. Previous user remove nfc system apk to prevent battery drain
You may need to reflash the original region firmware
First of all, thank you very much for your answer!!!
Would you accept to tell me how to proceed?
Best regards,
Laurent
I must add that I used sony pc companion to renew the "firmware" but it didnt change anything.... But, if I understand what you say, it might be a foreign phone not matching with the version?
And my XZ3 model is H8416 with android 10
Hope it helps...

I just wanted to post that I got hit with one of these too.
A cheap XZ3... $245Aus on eBay... which I bought to tide me over until I could buy a more expensive phone.
On the back is says it's an SOV39. A Japanese phone locked to "au by KDDI". But it is refirmware'd to H8416. The version for USA and much of Europe.
And yeah, you use it for a day and it seems fine, until you find out the NFC doesn't work and the Bluetooth is really flaky.
(And it just sucks that they didn't implement proper Gestures in Sony's Android 10)
So, the obvious moral of the story is beware of super cheap XZ3 phones.

Question lock the bootloader

Regards. I have a mi 11 ultra with stable global rom installed and unlocked bootloader. Can I lock the bootloader again with the global rom or would I have to put the one I had from China? thank you
You probably need to install the ROM you had on the device before, there may be some errors in the certificate so better install the ROM you had before
Hi
I killed a mi 11 by locking bootloader of Chinese model whilst global ROM was flashed
Could not boot due to "incorrect"software and could not reflash Chinese ROM as bootloader was locked and couldn't unlock bootloader again as locking does a full wipe and prevents re unlock
Search for paid EDL support. That's the way it goes when people relock BL and in parallel brick the phone
Search somewhere else since paid support must not be advertised here
I tried... Lol
I live in UK and contacted half a dozen independent repair services and I got the impression I knew more than they did about Xiaomi bootloader and edl flash software lol
In the end I sold it "as is" on ebay for about half what I paid for it as all the independent ppl wanted a non refundable service fee up front with no guarantee of repair
I knew the phone was repairable just not how to locate someone in UK with the software & the knowledge to force flash CN ROM back in

Sorry for the bad news of your decision, but people from Russia can do it remotely for 20 to 35$. easy fix in a 15 min's duration. and of course world wide, I've seen people from all around the world doing it.
if you had a search in this forum you could have found a few posts about it, and they all had it fixed straight away for a few bucks. you should have done a bit of a research, I could have bought it from you......

Sorry bro, I didn't mean that I am looking for one or to use you to get one. I meant to say that as long as any device got software issue, eventually there will be a solution, so no need to get rid of the device for that price. Be patient with any tech with a software delima, as long as it does not develop to hardware issue
