there is no way how magisk can install itself. it needs root for that.
the only one is by patching image boot in magisk
i used this tutorial: redmi 10s magisk

Max 2 - unlocked - root/magisk - SafetyNet pass not possible...?

Hello
I unlocked may max 2 today and flashed twrp. To boot a Stock Dev. or Stable ROM is only possible when SuperSU or Magisk is installed - or I stuck at the bootlogo.
BUT with both solution I'm not able to pass the SafetyNet test And this makes the Max 2 to a useless stone for me....
Has anyone passed the SafetyNet test with a unlocked phone?

usnf module : https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/xiaomi-safetynet-fix-t3600431
If u had flashed SuperSU then
1. u have to remove all traces of SuperSU search for unsu.zip by osm0sis
2. Then flash stock boot.img coz it's patched by SuperSU
3. Finally flash magisk and usnf module
Safety net passes

i see, what i mean is, you just have to check your settings if you have configured your notification to make the whatsapp unable to give notification. if you happen to use greenify or brevent make sure it is not in the list of being hibernated or being killed in the background process of your mobile phone.
Hi. The fight with SafetyNet is not worth of time. You can hide root but you will not be able to hide xposed. Xposed + XPrivalyLua is much more valuable.
Miui Global Dev 8.14 19

Not able to root

Hello, guys. I have an issue with magisk 19.3.
I flashed MIUI 10 Global version in my Mi 9. After that, I flash TWRP then reboot to TWRP install magisk 19.3 and reboot system, but not able to get in the system instead boot to recovery. Does anybody know why?
Any Magisk modules installed? In this case delete them first.

No. I didn't installed anything. I just flash MIUI 10 and flash in TWRP, then flash Magisk from TWRP.
Flash ROM, boot system to setup, then flash magisk.

I want to share my tool for installing TWRP for Redmi 8.Tested on MIUI 11 Global 11.0.10.0 (PCNMIXM). Always take a backup of your data before doing this modifications. I'm not responsible if something went wrong and do it at your own risk!!!

Turn off your device and reboot into fastboot by pressing Vol down and Power button
Extract the TWRP installer zip file

You need to Flash the Magisk after you install the TWRP. So that it will not back to stock recovery and the TWRP is now your permanent recovery.

Maybe the root was gone after reset... Flash again the Magisk zip file or install it via the magisk manager
When I first install the magisk , I wait couple minutes and then the magisk manager appears

So, after ahard reset tried again following yor guide, still not rooted, after that I flashed stock rom to have a clean install and tried the tutorial I posted using a stock boot image patched with magisk and still no root. Is it possible that I am having no luck and you managed to root yours because of different stock roms i.e. Global vs China or Russia roms?

Is it safe to downgrade Magisk from 21.2 to 20.4

Would I just download the old zip file from johnwu github and install it on Magisk manager?

That depends. If you are on Android 11, 20.4 won't work. You'll need to use 21.2. If you are on Android 10, you can flash the old zip in TWRP.

I don't exactly remember, but I don't think there is an option in Manager to flash a zip, only to download a zip, patch a boot image or direct install.
EDIT: You can also try to find the json for 20.4 on Github and then set a custom channel using that and then do a direct install.

Then the problem is the modules you installed, not "latest Magisk update" like you stated.
Not all modules work for all devices, each device reacts to modules very differently, so boot loop caused by modules should not be mistaken for the whole Magisk.
