Pitch black theme on Adroid 12? - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Hello.
I wonder - is it even possible to have literally pitch black theme all over the interface of Android 12? I mean trully black, not black-ish or gray, but with preserved colors that will be chosen by me during setup of the theme and the chosen colors will be aplied only to the quick settings icons.
Repainter works great combined with Flux Substratum theme, but there is a problem - accent color is also applied to the dialer app (see screenshots) which in effect makes the whole thing not black.
Almost forgot: Swift Installer is not supported yet on Android 12.
My phone is running stock ROM, but bootloader is unlocked and phone is rooted.
Is there any satisfactory solution to this? I must admit that I miss it a lot

OxygenOS 3.5.4 custom accent colors?

Hey guys!
I've already did some digging around and pretty much found nothing.
You see, on my previous phone with nearly stock Android I had an LPthemer app for xposed which allowed me to add a dark purple color for a primary and a violet color for accents. That's it. I like the look of stock Android with whites and stuff, it's just that I like violet over grayish blue.
And, I tried using Layers and similar apps, but it either does nothing or results in a bootloop.
So the question is - is there such thing as MMthemer? Or does anyone know a working Layers theme with desired colors?

really amazing! THX!!!
Edit: ok, i tried the newest one of your themes.
Unfortunately, there is a little problem getting system notification requesters with it.
Some of them will have black font on nearly dark grey backgrounds.
BTW: Theme Editor works good for EMUI 5.
It is a problem notifications of individual applications. Some have white font, some black font. The bubble is therefore gray, both fonts can be read.
BTW, I dont create the themes in the application Theme Editor, I create them manually.

that was not the question!
But this apk is helpful to change some little things to my own wishes.
New version of theme. Bugs fixed.

ok,ok.. thx for the next build.
but for future builds, i recommend to use up counting version numbers! Like 5.01 -> v5.02 a.s.o.
Otherwise we will get different download links without possibility to see which version it is.
The theme is available at the Playstore now:

I was looking for a black emui theme, and yours is the first that i accepted on my device.
Your Total Eclipse theme (to support) was a shure buy, but i don't like it because it has no color .
Can you make a second one with same color as Pure Dark 5?
In the past i tried a black and white theme and found out that when used in sunny light i had very hard time seeing what i was doing. And because of this past experience I avoid to test another black and white/gray theme on my device. I like the green neon color of your pure dark 5.0 theme..
so i ask again : Can you do a Eclipse theme but with green neon color???
@hanniSK Just wanted to thank you for the Pure Dark 5.0 theme. Good job.

Dark Theme for Emui 9 after upgrade to Pie?

Hi, was anyone able to find a dark/black theme for working fully with Emui9 after Pie upgrade?
My findings:
Dark EMUI 9 Theme (Best for Non-pro Huawei Phones: so far the best one I found: the dialer is in white, but rest of relevant apps and settings in black/grey without any bugs.
Generaly there is load of themes partially, not fully working. (in my opinion those are themes originally developed for Emui8 whose creators claimed compatibility with Emui9 without proper testing)
Mostly, the problem occures in certain menu's when user's interaction needed. In numerous menus, the text and background are same color, making text unreadable. You can overlook it during fastcheck, but its very anoying in tons of everyday situations.
How to test it: Choose settings> Home screen and Wallpapers> Wallpaper and choose anyone. Confirm it. Dialogue with choice whether you want to set it on Lockscreen, Homescreen or Both. If this dialoque is normaly visible, theme should be OK. In most cases of problematic dark themes, the dialogue shows in combination white text/white background.
List of tested and not properly working themes (update 19/01/19)
Deep Black Emui theme: Tested v 1.5, not working properly
Dark EMUI 9 Theme for Huawei/Honor: bought, not working properly, returned with refund.
Dark EMUI Theme for EMUI 5/8: not working properly
Moutain Dark Theme: not working properly
Problematic themes from Theme Manager from Huawei
- Samsung One Dark UI: bit confusingly reccomended as working in this topic here on XDA
- Windows 10 Home
- Nightlike
No fully black themes yet sadly, an the theme there has a nasty notification shade slider icon, looks straight out of 2011 ice cream sandwhich 4.0.
Im not upgrading to EMUI 9 until a decent theme comes up.
Maybe you can try this..
"Dark EMUI 9 Theme for Huawei/Honor"

:good: try this one
iaureeel: I have bought it and it is not working
2WildFirE: you are refering to the same theme as I did in first post. It has problems with dialogues, that are shown with same color of text and background. (e.g. if you connect phone to the PC, you cannot choose charging/copy mode, and many other similar situation).
So far, this is the theme I sound so far best - it has dialer in white, but rest is in black and working.

Yes, I've just seen this. I was too enthusiast
Did some more testing on promising themes, so far no luck.
Added to the first post.
I know it's not a theme per se, but I had the same "problem" when updating to EMUI9 (notification panel and navigation when keyboard is displayed were white). I found there is an option in "Settings > Battery" called "Darken user interface" or something like that, that turns everything dark, even the dialer.
There is no such option... Screenshot?
It's under Battery > the last setting before "more battery settings".

That's very interesting... I don't have this option and my version is 9.0.0.162 What is yours?
Ps) You don't have Honor View10 do you?
I don't have that option, and I'm on B178. What region is your phone for? Is it L09 C432?

My Honor View 10 is the BKL-L09 C432 version and I don't have that option in my phone. I'm on 9.0.0.178 patch 01 at the moment.
This version is working on my honor lite 9, but its not black, notification is still white !

Full "black" mode?

Does the Pixel 5 have a full "black" mode?
I know you can have "dark" mode but that always looks like dark gre-ish.
The default dark mode turns settings and the quick settings bar into true OLED black - most other Google apps, however, use the default greyish kind of black. I used to solve this problem by using the Swift Black substratum theme (requires root) which makes apps truly black, but after testing it on my Pixel 5 yesterday it seems like it doesn't support Android 11 yet as most apps keep crashing after applying the theme. But I'm getting used to the grey dark mode, even though I prefer the true black one.
I use Swift Black with Substratum on a OnePlus. I'm keen on getting the pixel 5 but I really want the true black... I will wait for a few more weeks to see if root and substratum work properly.

Yeah, coming from a OnePlus 5 with substratum too. Almost every Google app crashes, but the theme applied to Chrome v84 works for some reason. Atleast my browser is now black.
But so far I really got used to the dark grey mode, even though I still prefer true black. The only thing that bothers me is that there is no ambient display for new incoming notifications in A11 anymore. Only a permanent always on display ...
Edit: I just read that maybe this week basic support for Android 11 with Swift might come. So hopefully shouldn't take that long anymore.

Theming Tips for OneUI 3.1 / Android 11

Hey all,
here you have a summary of all available theming options to theme your OneUI 3.1 on Android 11.
Please note that this post features some paid apps! I do not intend to advertise these, it is just the lack of good free options at the moment. I did not put links here intentionally.
The following options allow for good theming support of your OneUI 3:
Hex Installer - Themes for OneUI (Early Access)
Most convenient option, very user friendly
Highly customizable (not only colors but also UI elements / tweaks)
Supports different "UI Mode" plugins, like the "AOSP R" plugin that allows for AOSP-like theming
Icon Theming for the OneUI launcher supported, as well as custom fonts
Pretty much all OS apps supported, also lots of third-party apps
Works by compiling and applying themes for the Samsung Themes engine
Can be used in combination with Substratum, more below
Some features are paid (the prices are fair)
Substratum / Substratum Light with Android R supporting themes
I could only make out 5 themes that support Android 11 / OneUI 3.1 at the time I am writing this:
Flux (free)
Flux White
Liv Dark (that's what I'm using)
Liv White
Aurora
These themes support a good range of apps and provide many customization options
Works great in combination with Hex Installer, more below
Substratum needs root!
Synergy
Now supports OneUI 3.1 as well
You can combine themes from different sources (like Substratum)
You cannot combine Synergy with Hex Installer
Personally I found Hex Installer to be more user friendly and allowing for more customization
Yet this is the way to go if you want to use a Substratum theme that does not natively Support OneUI 3
Paid app
SwiftBlack Installer
Now supports OneUI 3.1 as well
Most convenient theming experience
Easy updating of overlays
Customizable colors
But less themed apps as the other options as of now
Good Lock by Samsung (and its modules)
This app is quite known but totally underestimated in terms of its quality and feature set
Good Lock is a free customization toolbox by Samsung for OneUI, consisting of multiple apps/modules that can be separately installed from the Samsung Store
The modules allow for many different customizations in terms of lockscreen, homescreen, navbar, statusbar, clock face, and lots of more (visual aspects, UI tweaks, additional OS tuning and features)
Really recommend to get it and take a look at all modules and features. You'll like it!
Want to use Option 1 & 2 together? Let me share some tips on that specific matter:
First go to substratum and open your desired theme (see above). Do not yet compile any overlays. Just go to the overlay "Android System" and look up the color options it has. Choose an accent and a background color and note their color codes. Again: Do not yet compile the overlays. In case you decided to use Liv White / Liv Dark, I recommend choosing a solid color as accent (not gradient).
Now open your Hex Installer app and adjust the color scheme, taking into consideration which colors you chose to use for the Substratum theme (eg: Use the same accents / background colors)
Compile and fully install your Hex theme
Open Substratum again and compile all wanted overlays. You can compile overlays for apps that are already themed by Hex Installer. Remember to use the colors that you chose earlier.
Reboot and profit from a fully themed system!
Other tips:
For edge lighting experiences, I really recommend "Borderlight" if you only want edge lighting on home/lockscreen.
If you are looking for a system wide edge lighting experience, I recommend the app "Always On Edge". Heavier on your battery but provides extensive options.
Please note that not all third-party overlays are working perfectly.
If you want to use the same theme as shown in the attached screenshots, I have also attached my Hex profile and Substratum profile for you to use.
Hit thanks if any of this information was helpful!
Any questions? Leave a reply and I will try my best to help out.

You're welcome. I do not know of any proper TG groups for the S21 or at least I am not a member in any. For custom roms to appear you will need to wait for quite some more time I think. In terms of themes, I don't know any other than the 5 in my OP. Have a great day!
Yeayy. Right now synergy has been supporting Oneui 3.1.... Nice

Is Synergy working as before with no root?
EDIT: never mind, have to do ADB after each restart
Synergy soft bricked my phone. The settings app, and samsung theme app would crash and force the phone to reboot in Safemode SystemUI. I tried fixing the apps via recovery mode, nothing. Just a warning.

Hey all,
after having the experience that theming support on Android 11, especially OneUI 3, is quite weak as of now, I thought I'd share a few tips for people who are looking for something more than the Samsung Themes store can offer.
I can't live without proper, system-wide black theming and I bet some of you feel the same.
Please note that this post features some paid apps! I do not intend to advertise these, it is just the lack of good free options at the moment. I did not put links here intentionally.
// Screenshots at the bottom
// Update 1: Added Aurora theme to the list, which now supports Android R / OneUI 3
// Update 2: Synergy now supports OneUI3
The following options allow for good theming support of your OneUI 3:
Hex Installer - Themes for OneUI (Early Access)
Probably the most convenient way as of now. Allows for a decent theming experience, especially in combination with option 2.
Supports different "UI Mode" plugins, like the "AOSP R" plugin that allows for AOSP-like theming.
Fully customizable color scheme as well as other UI options (depending on the "UI Mode" plugin you use)
Icon Theming for the OneUI launcher supported, as well as custom fonts
Pretty much all OS apps supported, also quite some third-parties
Basically works by compiling themes for the Samsung Themes engine which are then applied from there
Some features are paid (the prices are fair)
Substratum with Android R supporting themes
I could only make out 5 themes that support Android 11 / OneUI 3.1 at the time I am writing this:

Probably well known but really underestimated. Also I feel like people put the "samsung bloat" label on these apps pretty quickly. But they are actually really well thought-out and working apps!

I thought Substratum development got dead.
Also, what's so good about Swift Installer? Not available for my S21U.
And Hex Installer? It costs money but never tried it.
I use Nova Launcher. Far from perfect IMHO, but a lot better than stock Android. I like most icons in less space, I'm also an extreme Dark themes fanatic, I would prefer extreme high contrast with black and green where possible. I hate dark gray color, honestly.

Nice to know. I'll get it next month then.
Can I have an extreme AMOLED-theme experience? Minimalism, black as much as possible, use green for letters and other GUI stuff as much as possible too with coherent exceptions.
Kinda like a very modern reincarnation of a UNIX green phosphorus terminal.
A bit similar to 2008 Gmail Terminal theme when used in a desktop web browser, but A LOT better and hires.
Maybe I'm weird, but this gives me a lot less eye fatigue and able to use devices in a lot more comfortable way.

no you'll have to make it.
I think that I did something wrong because chosen theme is active only for 10 minutes. What I did:
1. Downloaded Shizuku, did everything is it is on the provided Hex Installer screens;
2. Downloaded Hex theme from PlayStore, applied: first applied the default theme, than opened Hexed+ theme and clicked on "Try it out". Notification pops out with info that theme is applied succesfully;
3. Opened Hex app, clicked on this robot pill:
- Hex ADB setup is ticked green;
- Hexed+ theme applied is ticked green;
- Custom theme state is ticked red. How to make it green?;
- Hex theme Mode is active;
- Add My Themes Shortcut is active, but nothing happens when I try to open #MyThemes app
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G without root.
Any ideas how to solve this and have a theme for more than 10 minutes?

I believe ur supposed to select the high contrast theme in order to make it stick. I had to do it about 5 times to make it ACTUALLY stick. but I've since updated my phone and kept the theme, and can also remove it. It by no means works everytime, but I have had by far the highest success rate with hex.
