Best Debloat Method For ROG Phone 3? - ASUS ROG Phone 3 Questions & Answers

I'm cleaning up my ROG Phone 3 for playing PUBG Mobile. So i want to ask which debloat solution is best for performance and cleanliness? (BTW i saw that some methods may cause Basic Integrity (part of SafetyNet attest) to fail. And passing SafetyNet is must for me) My phone has unlocked bootloader, rooted with magisk and i can install TWRP if needed.

The ROG 3 stock rom can be fully debloated and cleaned up for blazing fast performance and battery life. Using a tool like App Manager (download from F-Droid) with root access is a good start in addition to the basic stuff like only allowing the few apps that you need to run in the background, etc. The app I just mentioned provides deep level of control for each app.
For SafetyNet: I pass and can hide root from each and every app (including some the toughest banking apps and games) with a Magisk 23 + SafetyNet Fix 2.1.1 + LSPosed & XPrivacy and with no performance hit. Should note that I run Android 10 and Magisk 23 and won't upgrade. I don't know how well it works on the latest firmware and Magisk versions (Magisk 24 no longer has Magisk Hide)

Re. debloating - are you just freezing bloatware or uninstalling it?
Any ADB based debloat solutions?

Raiffeisen Twint (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.raiffeisen.twint)

Hi everyone,
I am using the application Raiffeisen Twint (version 1.2.16.0, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.raiffeisen.twint) on my Magisk's rooted Google Pixel (Android 8.0, Nov. 2017) without problems for a while, but since Magisk 14 versions, the application stopped working and the application reports that root is detected.
I have successfully updated to Magisk 14.5 (from 14.2), but root is still detected by the application, even with Magisk Hide activated for the application and the Magisk Manager package moved to a random name (could also be related to the updated application).
I have cleared the data of the application several times and it doesn't help and root is still detected by the application...
Anyone has a idea?
Thanks for your answers!
Like I said in the Magisk support thread, I can hide Magisk from that app just fine (on Magisk v14.5 beta)...
You don't happen to have any other mods that might trigger an app looking for root (like Xposed)? Can your device pass SafetyNet? Have you previously been rooted with any other root method and do you have any remnants of that left (root management apps, etc)? Do you have any apps that are known to be used for questionable purposes. By "questionable purposes" I mean getting access to paid features without paying, etc. Not necessarily that you use the app for this, but that the app might be used in such a manner... Etc, etc, etc. Every little detail might count.
Hi Didgeridoohan,
Thanks for helping me!
I do not have any mods installed in Magisk and also no Xposed. My device is passing SafetyNet!
I have performed a factory reset last week and since that I only rooted my device with Magisk 14.2, so no other rooting applications used. For details, I have unlocked bootloader, TWRP recovery installed and developer options and USB debugging activated.
My settings in Magisk are:
I have following applications installed on my device:
https://pastebin.com/pmt4jBMV
Do you see any applications with "questionable purpose"?
I get this message in the application:
Thanks a lot!
At a quick glance everything looks ok...
I did some experimenting with the other Raiffeisen apps you have installed, in case they also detect root and "tell" on you. At least one of them did detect root, but from what I could see it didn't make any difference for Twint.
I also tested installing a few of the root apps you had installed (in case the app looks for certain known apps), but that didn't make any difference either. I could still successfully hide root.
My guess is that it's something along these lines tough. That it's using another app or detecting a root app. You could start experimenting with that. Clearing data for the other Raiffeisen apps and adding them to MagiskHide and also removing root apps. Try disabling USB debugging and developer options as well (didn't make difference for me, but worth a shot).
Simple. Change name of package from settings in Magisk Manager, then MAKE SURE you add twint app to magisk hide list, then ERASE DATA of twint app, change package name once again and run twint. Working with Magisk 14.5. Screens if u want available. Or video.
Hi Didgeridoohan, Hi Mamama07,
Thanks for your help, but sadly none of your suggestions did worked... until the update of the application released yesterday, to fix problem related to rooted devices! [emoji3]
Thanks anyway again for your help! [emoji106]
I had the same problem (with BCV Twint) and after a few tries, changing Magisk Package Name worked!

Enable Doze for Google Play Services on Xiaomi Mi Max 2?

Since I wasn't getting any responses on the magisk module thread, I'll just post it here.
Hi, im running stable xiaomi.eu 9.0.3.0 ROm wiht the latest "sysconfig patcher" version (GMS Doze+). And just to be clear, what I did was settings > installed apps >google play services, > battery > battery optimisation and then i select optimise, is that how to enable Doze on MIUI? So, everytime i reboot my device, battery optimisation will reset to not optimised. And strangely, when i select battery optimisation within google play services, the popup selection box, has Google Backup Transport heading? Is that normal with you? Sometimes I get Google Account Manager too, instead of Google Play Services.
The reason for all of this is I found out that Google Play Services consumed quite a bit of battery when my phone is awake and when it is on standby. So I am just wondering if anyone managed to get GMS Doze working on their devices?
I've been reaserching this too and I still have not found a fix. I'm going to install elementalx as my custom kernel and hopefully that will do the trick!
u guys could also try and use greenify donation package in order to hibernate system processes like google play store. that should do the trick
You'll have to root with SuperSu or Magisk, install Xposed and then Greenify + donation package. It's a massive hassle and you end up using more battery than just leaving Miui stock.
Oh and forget your banking apps working.

no need for xposed to use greenify donation flashing magisk via TWRP is not that much of a hassle tbh... plus u have magisk hide, so no issues with banking apps ive been rooted basically ever since i started with android phones back in 2011 on gingerbread and in all that time i have had exactly one single instance of an app misbehaving due to root. switched from supersu to magisk and voila, problem solved...

i think you don't understand what OP is asking, he doesn't want to just Greenify apps, anyone can do that without Magisk, but he wants to Greenify (sleep) Google background stuff like Google Services which requires Xposed, and Xposed isn't compatible with Magisk hide, so your banking (and other sensitive apps) wont work. I've done it a million times now on my Xiaomi, it's the only way. Forget NFC because it wont work after you do this (not that the Mi Max has NFC anyway)

aaaah i had no idea that xposed doesnt work in combination with magisk hide!
question though: why hibernate google processes in the first place? never had battery drainage problems with them...

I use Magisk module "Enable Doze for GMS Magisk Module" to enable dozing for Google Play Services (i.e. to be able to set to "Optimized" under Doze whitelist). Works fine.
The solution that worked with me 100% ,Mi max 1:
1-Install titanium backup and freeze this app:
"Battery and performance"
2-You need also to download sysconfig patcher magisk module in order to enable doze for google play servicesoptional)

Good luck

Freeze Battery and Performance ? But that would disable the feature to control Doze whitelist

Magisk vs Banking Apps

Hi All,
I am experiencing issues with certain banking apps.
Starling Bank
and
Barclays
These two will not run however other banking apps do.
I have Magisk 17.1 running perfectly with Magisk hide turned on for those apps and changed the package name of Magisk manager and even tried uninstalling the manager as a test.
CTS Profile and SafteyNet are both passed and eveything else is working for all other apps.
Has anybody else had experience with these 2 apps ?
Im thinking maby they are detecting certain root applications but i have no idea how to find out which one i should try to uninstall.
Any help/advice/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tried Magisk hide?
Edit: Never mind, didn't read that part. Try uninstalling Magisk completely.
Edit 1: Did you try clearing the app's data after hiding? The apps "remember" that the device is rooted.
I had tried uninstalling magisk using the uninstaller zip so i was completely unrooted and still didnt work that was also after clearing the app data and i ahve also tried uninstalling the apps then reinstalling them, because of this i think they have some root apps detection for example maby if titanium backup is installed it wont run. The problem is how do i know which apps its checking for i have lots of apps on my phone 500+ and to go through all root ones will take me ages. is there an easy way to find out ?
There is a thread here i have just found about this issue:
https://community.starlingbank.com/t/incorrect-android-root-detection/5068/246
even unrooted phones are being detected as rooted and its working for some with Magisk but not for others.
How do i go about getting the apps list that it detects as "unsafe"
Barclays vs Magisk
I have the same problem, magisk v17. 2, safetynet passes, but i cannot run absa bank (part of barclays). Anyone with a solution please?
Did you disable USB debug?
I've got them both running only with v16. On v17.1 or v17.2 only Barclycard.

Question Does MagiskHide Still Work?

Does "hiding the Magisk app" and turning on the "MagiskHide" toggle in the Magisk Manager app still work nowadays? I want to root my Redmi 9T, debloat, get rid of all pesky advertisements - and still be able to use banking apps, Netflix and McDonalds app in the process.

You can debloat the phone without rooting or unlocking bootloader, with Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools.
And to answer your question. Yes magiskhide still works. And to guarantee of its effectiveness, it's advised to also change the package app name to something other than magisk

Rooting with SuperSu?

I used SuperSu many, many years ago and figured I would give it a try an old e5 Plus that's been collecting dust in a junk drawer. Using Platform Tools, TWRP and a SuperSu zip the whole process took maybe 10 minutes.
I noticed that all of the guides here use Magisk and they look fairly complicated for the average user. Is there a reason why it's favored over SuperSu? Now that I'm rooted, can I use Magisk and all of its features (modules, etc)?
SuperSU is more easily detected by banking apps, Netflix, Disney+, Google Pay etc. As it modifies the system partition while Magisk is a system-less root.

I think you can install Magisk using the SuperSU root. But anyway if you want to use Magisk features, you will need to install Magisk.
