Fairly easy with Magisk & Termux installed...
As said, install Termux(from Aurora Droid/Fdroid-NOT PlayStore) & run pkg/apt upgrade with a few repo updates & and then install Font Manager from Androidacy thru Magisk. Reboot. Thru Termux run "su -c manage_fonts"(no quotations), press 1 to change fonts or 2 and change emojis (just read directions as you get past "su -c...") and reboot when it asks thru Font Manager.
Gotham/OPSlate/ & especially IBMPlexSans are always running on mine. Solid module.

Hell no. Font manager doesn't allow using fonts they don't provide and that's if you can even download it. The ignorant Dev doesn't use GitHub and uses garbage androidacy. It's download hell because there's CAPTCHA puzzles, not actual one click CAPTCHAS that modern sites use. Don't support their garbage and always adblock if you feel like solving CAPTCHAS for whatever reason

You could always use Fox Magisk Module Manager if CAPTCHA is that big of a hassle... Wait 10 seconds and hit download.
I'm sure an individual font module thru Magisk would be the easiest route if you can find the one you're after

Do I have to root my fire in order to install CM12 on it?

hi,
I don't know if this is specific to fire or a general cyanogen question, but I work with fire- so there it is.
According to the tutorials I see (most notably Rootjunkies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dwguHoxTvo) when I install CM I also need to put in SU in TWRP (or any other bootloader). Can I not to? What would happen?
I'd rather that apps I'll install be at their maximum segregation possible and have no loopholes to wiggle through.
Thank you very much.
You don't have to start a new thread, for every question
you have a few other threads, that you were are getting answers in
starting a new thread just means you have to wait
till someone with an answer sees your new thread
rather than getting an notification that you replied in an existing thread
it's up to you...

Oh,
I actually thought it's more proper and organized that way. Separate issues- separate threads, and only those who are knowledgeable on that question would reply .
I'll try better next time.
thank you.

SU and SuperSU are entirely different things. SuperSu is a root manager that controls application access and elevated permissions. It is optional with CM 12.x which has an integrated root manager. SuperSU is a well respected third party tool that offers additional capabilities.

Also, SU- so this is the command/file that gives the instruction to android to give administrative rights?

Yes - but disabled by default. Consult the CM 12-1 thread or do a Google search for instructions on enabling developer options for access to the root toggle.

Is there some way to remove the capability, not just turn it off? like with a stock?
and when i deny this su command to the kernel, does it happen in programs like supersu?
by the way, I wanted to thank you but apparently I'm limited to 8 thanks a day.

App Settings Module for Magisk?

hello,
i used the xposed module "app settings" version 1.13 with android marshmallow before i updated to nougat. this module enables you to change DPI, font scale, locale, force fullscreen, persist in memory, etc. on a per app basis.
here is a link to the module:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...2014-05-14-t2437377/post63835421#post63835421
i have not found any possibility to get this working on nougat as there is no xposed for nougat and it seems there is no more custom rom with these options.
is it possible to get this module working with magisk?

Downgrade to marshmallow or write xposed for nougat. The first is easy, the second will make many people happy over here.

Thanks Op, I also would love to have App Settings equivalent on Magisk or stand alone. Turns my 6.44" Mi Max into a desktop chrome browser almost

It would be just ultra hard to code that, or just impossible.
years ago (before xposed got famous) some custom roms (paranoid,...) had these functions.
i would go back to marshmallow only because of this missing features but there is no marshmallow rom for my new oneplus 5.
is it really impossible to get it working with magisk? the code itself (version 1.13) worked without any problems on marshmallow.

You'll need to manually edit files and apps and Magic Mount them with Magisk. Alternatively you could possibly do some things with some cumbersome scripts. Magisk can't change code of running apps, just replace/add already modified files and run scripts at boot.
In other words: No, IMO it's not worth the extreme hassle and you won't get the same thing as you would with Xposed.

I wasn't gonna open up that can o' worms, but since you brought it up...
Look up how to work with shell scripts. Tasker can run those (among other things). You could probably do some stuff with the resetprop tool as well (look here for details and syntax).
Don't expect miracles though...

Need help to disable/block YouTube ads for good (Rooted Device)

I need help in getting rid of those extremely annoying youtube ads before something plays... My device is rooted so im sure there's an easy way?
Lastly is there any way to enable youtube playback with screen off or in a different window? (there used to be a xposed module for this a long time ago...)
THANKS !!!
Check out the iYTBP thread. Should be in the General Android Apps&Games section.
It's basically YouTube with bg playback and inbuilt adblocking

Ah, you don't necessarily need the Magisk variant. I wouldn't recommend it, just clutters Magisk imho.
Go for the rootless variant, install the iYTBP-Youtube and MicroG-for-iYTBP (both can be found on the MediaFire links or AFH) and just launch&setup with your primary account you use YT usually with.
Don't worry about battery. I'm using that combo on my N8 (rooted w/ Magisk) aswell and it's no drainage.
download tutuapp apk.. then download youtube ++ and iYTBP from tutuapp store:good: It will also work on non rooted phone
I installed iYTBP manually & it works great. Really easy. Uninstall prev YT, create folder, copy iYTBP apk, set permissions & reboot.

Alright, good to hear it works again. Just beware that as soon as Magisk looses root randomly or it crashes accidentally, iYTBP will need a reboot to work whereas the non-root variant will work regardless of Magisk status (which makes it a tad more attractive, don't you think )
Yeah that makes sense, I've been having issues with magisk loosing root to often now... I'll give it a go...
Oh, how about blocking YouTube ads that appear from external pages? For example if i click on a video link from Facebook... It opens a browser version of YouTube and that has ads... Anyway to stop these?

top magisk modules

Just rooted my Pixel 3a last night running Android Q Beta 6. What are some good magisk modules that I should install to make the Pixel 3a even better? Thanks
Active Edge Mod for Pixel Devices - allows you to customize the side sensor buttons. I have it set up to the default Google assistant except when the camera is open - then it takes a picture.
Viper4 AndroidFX - there are several versions available. They all use the same driver and have the same options. The difference is is only in the GUI.
Vanced Youtube - provides ad free Youtube experience.
Advanced Charging Controller (by VR25) - allows a user to customize how and when the phone is charged. It helps prolong the battery life.
Systemless Hosts - more of a Magisk setting, but it does install this module. Allows ad blocking through Adaway or similar ad blocking app.

the active edge guy is SUPER on the ball and posts updated versions in his telegram group if you're that way inclined. but yeah youtube vanced is my only functioning module right now. i'm sure most of them will be updated for Q in the coming months.
I'm a fan of energized pro for ad blocking, but you'll need the systemless hosts and BusyBox modules for it to work. These days I root my phone mainly for ad blocking.
for Vanced Youtube, is there a different module needed for it to work? I installed it in my Pixel 3a Rooted/Bootloader unlock, and the app was not even showing up

I don't think you need to uninstall the actual Youtube app, but you do need to uninstall any "updates" for the Youtube app. I've found that after installing the Magisk module, I can go into the Playstore and pull up the Youtube app. There will be a "uninstall updates" button where the normal uninstall button would be. However you need to install the module first. Otherwise the button will uninstall the app instead of uninstalling the updates.
That's been my experience at least.....

Yes. You have to install V4A FX v2.7.0.0 because v2.7.1.0 driver installation is broken on Q for now.

Here you have the APK. Install it and then the driver installation should install the magisk module.
I have the 2.7.1.0 version of Viper4Android installed and working just fine on Android 10. It was installed and working on Android 9 and it continued to work when I upgraded to Android 10. I sideloaded the .020 version of the Android 10 OTA image.
The Magisk module was last updated on May 31, 2019, so it obviously hasn't specifically been updated for Android 10. Perhaps it won't install on Android 10, but will work if upgraded from Android 9. I also have the Audio Modification Library module and the Audio Compatibility Patch module installed as well. Perhaps that makes a difference?????

Question new information regarding custom or globalrom?

I wanted to ask if there is any new information regarding a global rom or a custom rom? I would definitely be flashing it right away.
Best hope for that will be when the S version is released. According to available information it is virtually identical to the X, so the firmware might be transferable.
can't wait!
Hopefully.
I’m not sure how things will go. I would much prefer working with aosp to get a booting gsi rom personally
TBH I've got the X working so well now that I don't really see a huge need for a new ROM. If someone gets it working and shows a benefit then...
Yes, of course it works and doesn't cause any problems, but I would like only the voice assistants from Google
and android auto, all the rest is ok
Android auto is dead in the game bro'
Are there any new advances?
i suppose nothing, there is trouble with Vivo and unsecure Boootloader. Nobody seems interested by solid and friendly solution to unlock then after port a rom on this baby !

You can extract boot.img in two ways:
1. What you described
2. Use DSU Loader and pull the file out using the following commands in adb:

I haven't removed any Chinese bloatware, since I didn't find it was slowing down the phone or using too much memory. Quite happy to have it just sit there instead of risking removing too much.
