Android 12 for p20 pro? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi!
Is there ANY android 12 rom for the p20 pro? Or at the very least a rom with updated security patches?
Kind of a shame that i might have to replace the device just because of an outdated OS, the phone still works good.
The hardware should be able to do it no problem, considering i have a spare ****ty moto g30 that is running it from factory.

No Android 12 but latest update on mine 10.0.0.201 (received about month ago) has security patches from February 2022.. so I see no security issue there.
EMUI 12 (based on Android 11) is i think now in beta stage for P20 Pro.. so should be arriving in a couple of months...Stable version of EMUI12 on P30 series is rolling out globally at the moment... P20 series should be next...

Yeah, that's why i was talking about security patches, last updated April 2019..
Will try after a full backup. Anything i should be aware of? Running root through a patched image (Magisk) and busybox

And thats the reason why you don't get updates. Root is guilty. You have to update it manually, but you should make a copy of bootloader img from android 9 because in emui 10 (android 10) they deleted the option to unlock/lock it. Btw how did you got the bootloader unlocking code?

Ah, should have known. Thanks for informing me though! Any idea how to do that? Will share the unlocked image if it's of any use for others.
I unlocked it about a month or two after the launch of the phone through Huawei. Received an unlock code via email.

unfortunately I bought my phone a moment after they removed the possibility of getting the code. Yeah sure it would have use for others who were so lucky and got the unlock code (they would not have to install emui 9 to get the boot.img). Unlucky I can't really help you, only with theory because i didn't ever even rooted a huawei phone. I only installed twrp, custom rom and rooted my huawei watch 2 and another (samsung) phone... Continuing: In theory you have to get somehow the image with the latest version and install/flash it and then flash the old bootloader from android 9 (probably with these command: "fastboot flash boot path/name_of_the_img.img")

Android 10 is available for P20 series since about 1.5 years (can't remember exactly), and you should be getting security updates approx every 3 months.
If you are stuck on Android 9.0 you may have to update using HiSuite.
Built in eRecovery may help too (turn phone off, hold volume up, connect to charger and keep holding volume up until you get white menu screen, there should be option there for system recovery, select and enter wifi password, phone will download latest version of system available and install it)

I found a tutorial, but it's from 2017 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...d-rooted-but-otherwise-on-stock-emui.3702156/

Interesting, however is there even a working TWRP for the p20 pro? In any case, I'm running stock recovery.
I've looked at the possibility of using the app "Flashfire", might have some use.

Like I said I have no idea. But I have good news about updates. I just got the emui 12 beta so June or July there should be stable verison for everyone.

Just tested this, both eRecovery and HiSuite says Android 9 is the latest. Probably have to wipe the phone first.

And it just became even stranger.
Reset to factory from settings: Only removed my lock screen.
Reset to factory from eRecovery: Nothing, just a reboot.
Tried to install Android 9 from eRecovery: just derooted my phone, otherwise everything is the same.
Managed to lowlevel wipe the phone through Find my device, but still not able to upgrade.

EMUI 12 for old phones (like P40 Pro, P30 Pro etc.) is based on Android 10. Probably, only the recently released phones are based on Android 11.

Firmware update error

I'm currently running ALP-L29 9.0.0.109(C185E2R1P8log) and i'm trying to install ALP-L29 9.0.0.159(C185E2R1P12) though system upgrade option, but when i'm trying to upgrade it shows system update error message and the upgrade does not executes.
Do i need to roll back to 8.0 version first? This beta that i have now installed will detect someday the new version and upgrade automatically ? the device is already unlocked.
Please advice.
Dear
How did you manage to install android pie on your mate 10? I am still at 8.0.0.140 and no any update since 2months.

I'm not sure which method he used to update his phone, but you can use eRecovery method of FunkyHuawei if your phone is not unlocked with bootloader. I used it to update to 9.0.0.108 (mine is C636), going to update to 9.0.0.159 tonighf. Check the attached image, it shows the available Pie firmwares as mentioned.

Since Huawei stopped the bootloader unlocking service, and I got my phone recently, the method of unlocking the bootloader is troublesome and kind of costly, so I decided not to do anything with it. With FunkyHuawei's eRecovery method, you can update your phone to any firmwares available on their site even with a locked bootloaded. It is quite easy, you should take a look at it. If you decided to go with them, I'd recommend you to back up your data (HiSuite might not be able to restore app data) before updating. I had to factory reset the phone after the update because the phone might have some glitches. Really, I'd recommend this method, it does cost you $18 but it gets the job done. You can PM me if you have any further question.

I had an error while trying to update to 159 via eRecovery method. The computer does not recognize the USB connection. Couldn't fix it myself so I contacted FunkyHuawei and they advised me to do HiSuite method and it worked. I thought I had to downgrade to Oreo first but I just left the 159 on and it could update. May be that could be your solution too.
Thank you all, i have unlocked, rebrand and install Pie my device using funkyhuawei services but since i ran out of credits i want to be sure that if i renew just 1 credit to download the new firmware i can do the upgrade directly from my pie old build to the new one without issues instead of purchase more credits if i have to execute more tasks.
I've manage to download the new build from another site but as i mentioned as im trying to installing using the hidden menu it does not work

When is mate 10 (Alp-l29, c185) receiving emui 9 in the middle east?
Hi I am desperate to receive emui 9.0 after seeing many sites claiming the beta for middle east varients.
I joined the beta program few months ago but misteriously got kicked out or I must say the "my projects" tab was empty a week ago. I would like to know when actually huawei will roll out and OTA update for the mate 10, thankyou

Regarding to OTA, FH told me that we might be able to receive (this build is a legit build from Huawei anyway), but we have to wait and see. I notice that Huawei sends out update at different times to different locations for the same model, hate it. Mate 10 pro is on build 161, but Mate 10 is on build 159, so I guess we have to check FH once in a while together with System Updater. Actually, FH released official Pie updates before Huawei officially announced Pie update schedule, kinda strange though, many have a conspiracy theory on the relationship between FH and Huawei
I think the ROMs provided by FH are stock ROM, that is why we can update the phone through Huawei methods and not third-party ones. Let me guess, you did a factory reset after upgarding to Pie? I had this problem with beta version, and it is an issue with Pie builds, according to FH. If you want to downgrade to Oreo or another build, you have to do it via a specific HiSuite version, to me this way is so much faster than eRecovery. I can provide you the software, but I'd suggest you to contact to FH first, they told me that the reason they don't publish this method is because not every one's issue has a same cause. This is a last resort.
Hope this'd be helpful.

Dear,
They also told me that they didn't stop OTA updates, it's upto huawei to send OTA updates, I hope so it will be like this,
Yes I did factory reset after installing the Pie on my phone, because it was little slow and glitches. No ERecovery is not working to go back to Stock recovery. Can you please tell me that method to try it. Which version you are talking about for HiSuite. I want to go back to the Stock ROM and to receive updates via Huawei OTA. Its very strange to me, that updates are available in the market for the phone, and Huawei not sending to their phones, and also someone like(FW) able to update the phone, something is fishy. May huawei becomes more professional in doing promises.. and satisfy their customers more.

Yes, I also got glitches and many time couldn't turn on the screen, that is why I had to do it. I uploaded the HiSuite version here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NYsPYS6aB1BHaf1p5F_mJJJQMOSc0lql/view?usp=drivesdk
Uninstall your current HiSuite, install this version and follow the same steps (DNS) with FH but without eRecovery.
Not so sure about the stock recovery as you mentioned, but may be what you need is to downgrade to Oreo. I checked on FH and they have a new firmware for downgrade purpose, I don't know what is the difference though. Good luck.
Just received a patch for build 159 from Huawei, so I think OTA works normal on FH's roms.
Finally, ALP-L29 9.0.0.159 officially launched here in Saudi Arabia, and I was not satisfied with the FunkyHuawei software. So decided to downgrade my phone to Android Oreo again, and then update officially.

MIUI with Android 10

Hi, I was reading that a lot of people are receiving the Android 10 software update on their phones. I want to know if it still on Beta or if there is a stable relase. I have my mi 9 lite with MIUI 11.3.4.0 with Android 9. When I could get the Android 10 version?
Hey, i got the update recently but not through OTA. I choosed to install it my way with twrp.
You can do the same.
I'm actually on a EU Android Q rom update and have to say that everything is running the way it should actually.
But i'm not also an intensive user. So I can't tell if you will not encounter any bug.
Afaik it's stable enough at least for my daily use.
If you want android 10 download the update manually and install it through updater app. I suggest to wait for the release when it be on the official site. android 10 is still drains battery much more than android 9. Here is the recovery update: https://bigota.d.miui.com/V11.0.1.0.QFCMIXM/miui_PYXISGlobal_V11.0.1.0.QFCMIXM_212c62202d_10.0.zip
I installed Android 10 OTA but now a few apps that worked on Android 9 isn't working. Or are very slooow.
I.E. stock camera. When I take picture, nothing happened. It didn't took the picture or saved it.
Five minutes later i tried again and then photos showed up when I opened cam again.
ES explorer is very slow.
Parallel space keeps crashing.
And the worst of all...ADS. MSA is off, recomended aps also and Xiaomi apps and browser full of ads. I have installed blokada and DNS 66.
I got WhatsApp video call and the phone didn't ring, no notification. I saw missed call when I opened WhatsApp chat.
Any advice/help?
I don't think that this is stable release.

Huawei stopped supporting the phone, last official updates were Nougat.
For Chinese market last update was Oreo - by rebranding, you can install and use it worldwide (find and follow HWOTA-7 thread from the ROMs section ).
Upon rebranding and installing that Chinese Oreo, you can install LOS (AFAIK, 16.0 - again, look into the ROMs section
There is no such thing as A10 for this phone (maybe you could find A9 GSI - again, upon finishing HWOTA-7 and Chinese Oreo), but of questional usability

Want to downgrade back to android 10

I am rooted and recently upgraded to android 12 and absolutely hate it. I would really like to go back to android 10 as android 11 had things I didn't like too.
Any issues I may face going back to 10? Is it as simple as doing a clean install of the factory image and rerooting?
The Pixel 5 never had Android 10. It was released with 11.

Fair enough, I'll have to find which version of 11 took the double tap ambient screen (or whatever they called it) away.
Question still remains, any issues with going back to an early version of Android 11?

There's not even a factory image for 10 for the p5. I got mine at the end of November and obviously has an update right away. I never thought to check the current version since 11 came out on Oct.
Updated without signing into Google. Unlocked the bootloader before signing in because let's face it, I'm going to root. Might as well unlock it out of the box and avoid the wipe.

No - as long as you wipe data.
I would recommend keeping your bootloader and radio up to date; both should be backwards compatible with Android 11.
Your bootloader must be unlocked to downgrade.

How To Guide Update to beta MIUI 13 EEA - Xiaomi Beta tester bypass

For those with the bootloader locked and are not beta testers, there is a way to update to newest MIUI 13 (android 12) without losing data. I got the European (EEA) version of Redmi Note 10 Pro, so the links will be for EEA version of ROMS.
Here are the steps to do it:
1. Go to settings - about phone - MIUI version and tap on MIUI 12 6 or 7 times until "additional update futures are on" will pop up
2. Download your current version of MIUI 12 ROM https://bigota.d.miui.com/V12.5.7.0...AGlobal_V12.5.7.0.RKFEUXM_03d5ef5aec_11.0.zip. Download it using a browser, do not download it with MIUI updater! It would be recommended to have the last version of MIUI 12, in my case is MIUI 12.5.7.0
3. Download MIUI 13 https://bigota.d.miui.com/V13.0.3.0...AGlobal_V13.0.3.0.SKFEUXM_73299ee316_12.0.zip
4. Put the 2 downloaded ROMS in the same folder, on the internal storage of the phone - for example: internal storage/download/downloaded_rom
5. Go to settings - about phone - MIUI version and tap on the three dots on the right upper side of the screen and select Choose update package, go to folder where your downloaded ROMS are, choose V12.5.7.0.RKFEUXM/miui_SWEETEEAGlobal_V12.5.7.0.RKFEUXM_03d5ef5aec_11.0.zip and wait until the notification " Your device will reboot automatically to update to MIUI version V12.5.7.0.RKFEUXM " appears, DO NOT HIT "REBOOT AND UPDATE" OR CLOSE THE WINDOW!! Simply go to home screen.
6. Go to folder you downloaded the ROMS using file manager and rename miui_SWEETEEAGlobal_V13.0.3.0.SKFEUXM_73299ee316_12.0.zip to miui_SWEETEEAGlobal_V12.5.7.0.RKFEUXM_03d5ef5aec_11.0.zip, all you have to do is change the name of MIUI 13 ROM with the name of MIUI 12 ROM you have selected in the update of step 5. TO be able to do that you should change something in the name of MIUI 12 ROM name, you can delete the last letters or add some numbers or letters.
7. After changing the name of MIUI ROM go back to update present on recent and press on "Reboot and Update", the update process has started by decrypting the update zip, after decrypt is finished phone will reboot. Now all you have to do is wait for your beloved Redmi Note 10 Pro to apply the new update.
First boot after update will take some time, don`t panic just wait. I did update my Redmi Note 10 Pro by using this method because I have a locked bootloader and I didn`t joined the beta tester program.
This method can be used on all versions of Xiaomi, Redmi phones and all regions (TR, ID, RU, IN, EEA, GLOBAL, TW) by downloading and using the correct ROMS. If your download a wrong version rom, for example if your Redmi Note 10 is using Indonesian version of rom and you have downloaded the global rom updater won`t let you to do the update, a message like Unable to flash Custom ROM will appear.
If YOU choosing to follow this guide, I am not responsible for bricked devices.
This is perfect, just installed it. However it still has old style quick settings, they might change some design in first official build...
Did anyone noticed that it changed the boot up screen? It no longer says Redmi when turning on but rather just the Mi logo. Same goes for the booting process, goes back to the Mi icon with the 3 dots instead of MIUI's letters boot up.
Yes boot up screen logo is new.
Also to anyone considering doing this, it's still in beta as it shows.
It's jittery, laggy and not at all optimized, you won't be able to downgrade unless you have your bootloader unlocked (which I don't because the phone is new so I have to wait 162 hours).
So flasher beware.
Would anyone be able to provide an answer to the problem that I expose below ?
According to what I read on the following French site https://www.nextpit.fr/xiaomi-miui-13-mise-a-jour-smartphones-compatibles, MIUI13 would be based on Android 11 and not on Android 12 ???
It seems to me really curious, even impossible.
Thank you in advance for your opinion.

I don't think you can downgrade, unless you have unlocked bootloader.
I'm running this beta for a few days now without a problem. There should also be official update this month and i'm sure most of the bugs will be fixed.
Hello,
Thank you, thanks to you I installed https://bigota.d.miui.com/V13.0.3.0...AGlobal_V13.0.3.0.SKFEUXM_73299ee316_12.0.zip, and it works very well,
then I installed TWRP twrp-3.6.0_11-0-sweet.img,
then magisk
and finally SystemRW/SuperRW (feat. MakeRW) v1.32.
everything is OK even the RW partition.
1000 times THANK YOU

This is perfect, just installed it. However it still has old style quick settings, they might change some design in first official build...View attachment 5523895View attachment 5523897View attachment 5523899

Actualizado a miui 13 siguiendo el tutorial, sin problemas, ya tengo miui 13, todo operativo junto con android 12
If I install the beta version this way, then when the stable comes, I will be able to install it normally?
Bro I install miui 13 Eea Beta version 13.0.2.0 from recovery ROM . Now I want to go back to miui 13 Eea stable version is there to go to stable ROM without pc
Can confirm this is working. Tricked MIUI to update from 13.0.6.0.SJDEUXM to 13.0.7.0.SJDEUXM. Trying by updater app said "This rom is intended for internal testers". This is f*cking genius xD
Hi ,
I have 13.0.1 installed already on my phone and i want to install it again but get an error "the rom is intended for "internal testers" make sure your account has the required permission" , how can i bypass this ?
theres an easier way, in the updates section just tick the box for receiving updates sooner than everyone else, i had it ticked and it updated a couple week back to 13.0.13 EEA. Much easier than flashing. personally i wouldnt recommend it, my phone came brand new from Xiaomi already loaded with 13.0.3, everything worked great, but since it updated to a Beta the battery life is worse, and the phone gets extremely hot when charging and it does seem slower and laggier. i havent managed to downgrade because bootloader is locked and i really dont want to unlock it and ive never flashed a xiaomi so im not 100% on the process. If i had the choice i would stay away from anything above 13.0.3 until the issues are resolved.

Yes, plenty of videos online and posts regarding downgrading, however it can only be done officially and safely by unlocking the bootloader and flashing the rom you want to go back to and will wipe all your data. that is the only official way, you can upgrade without unlocking, but to downgrade you need to unlock it.
