General Realme GT 2 - List of things I don't like about it - Realme GT 2

- Sound quality in video recordings is terrible. Audio is muffled, boosted and lacks resolution (sometimes sound like it's underwater); (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
- Display - has color shift even at a small angle change, mostly noticeable on white background with screen brightness below 50%. Is really annoying if you're used to quality displays;
- Automatic brightness - in dark environment it dims the screen too much and the screen brightness needs to be increased manually (and it doesn't have automatic learning based on previous adjustments) - in normal light and in sunlight is working fine; (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
- Photos taken with primary camera have over saturated reds and shadow areas are too bright; (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
- Camera settings - does not keep some previous settings, like if you set HDR off, and switch to video and back or exit the app for some time, is on auto again; Some would like to set HDR always off, it makes photos too artificial/over processed; (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
- Slow motion videos - can't select frame rate - quality and bitrate too low; (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
- Power button - needs to be pressed together with volume up for 10 sec. for the power menu to pop up; (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
- Speakers balance needs to be "1 click" to the left to sound centered ( I think the top speaker is smaller than the bottom one); (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
- Fingerprint sensor is positioned too low, hard to reach, is not in a natural/easy accessible position;
- Stock recovery - doesn't have option to recover/reflash stock firmware, only wipe data; (fw. vers. RMX3311 A16)
If you agree about any issue in this list, and you think it can be fixed (software issue) please send an email to [email protected] and mention it. I've already did. The more complaints they receive, maybe, the faster they will try to fix it.

I agree with everything.
Sound recording quality is still not fixed.
Display do you still have the original screen protector?
Auto brightness is fixed on new update.

@wizard8400 Wow! So much detailed!! Nice. Provide these feedbacks in Realme bug section.
MIC issue is the reason, i dropped buying this. Hopefully they fix it for you guys.
Also for display, since you mentioned it happens below 50%, could it be cz of PWM dimming? Try DC dimming and check color shift.

how can we check the pwm ?

[Q] How do you turn off auto-focus

As a "proper" camera, the unit seems to be missing some things I'd expect by default. How do you turn off auto-focus an focus manually... taking pictures at night - the stars etc - invariably the images are out of focus.
Also auto-exposure control - you can turn that off easily for images but for videos there seems to be no way to turn off the auto exposure - which makes the end product look very amateurish.
Finally whenever I go out at night, the LCD dims, I can't seem to stop that and it dims WAY too much?
Any ideas chaps?

It appears that you cannot turn Auto Focus off but you might be able to find a third party camera app in the Play Store that allows this
Settings for video are sparse it's true and again there is no control over the exposure etc.
I didn't notice the LCD dimming, The camera doesn't have an auto brightness LCD so I am not sure what's causing that. Turning the brightness up from the drop down notification bar is easy enough though.
Sorry these are not the answers you are looking for but we have to remind ourselves that this is a premium camera not a pro camera however.

Thanks for that. I will indeed look out for such an app. Agree with you that it's not a "pro" camera - but for example - on the iPhone who's video handling is equally dire, there's an app that completely compensates by letting you shoot 16:9 with auto exposure, auto focus and auto-white all turned off at the touch of a button. This camera really does need such controls to make it useful for anything other than "party" videos. Its a big disappointment that Samsung would miss off such obvious controls having taken the effort to make a special camera app in the first place.
there are only 2 focus modes as far as I can tell, auto and macro.
night sky shots have worked fine for me using auto focus though.
I made some nice pictures of a crescent moon without a tripod or manual focus, and it was sharp enough to see the craters on the moon.
using manual camcorder under expert you can set the brightness, and white balance for video recording manually(wb is under the settings gear)
lcd dimming: settings gear - general - display brightness
the settings gear is hidden under the > and the expert mode can be accessed through the mode button.
don't be so afraid to dig a bit through settings.
I often see complaints about missing/misbehaving features in apps when it's all available through a settings screen.
EDIT: apprentice: auto brightness works using the camera sensor, so it only works while in the camera app.
Thanks for that - so solved the LCD brightness, but I've gone through all the settings and cannot figure out how to turn off the auto-focus or the auto-brightness. Put your hand in front of the lens - and both kick in whether you want them or not... any ideas anyone?

As far as I can tell in camcorder mode, the one thing you can set - brilliance- is only relative brilliance - the exposure still bobs up and down like a YoYo.... making the movies look terrible - surely guys there has to be a way to turn this off?

Recording with constant framerate (LOS)

Hey guys!
I'm currently using nvertigo67's LAS for the 1+3T, which comes with OOS camera pre-installed.
It works extremely nice, except for one thing. It does record 1080p in 60fps, however with a variable framerate. I asked the dev. if he knew any way to change it to record at a constant 60fps, to which he said he doesn't know much about changing codec settings (post 1 & 2)
Do any of you know what I should try to do to be able to record with a constant framerate?

use a camera app where you can lock the ambient brightness like open camera. then try to lower the ambient brightness shown in the camera by holding the camera to a bright spot and press on the lock. this changes the iso so the framerate rises and by locking it it will stay on that framerate constantly. ofc you can also use a camera app where you can choose between different iso values.
but for me oss camera has allways same framerate no matter what light conditions. your issue might be kernel related. low performance maybe. or some apps consuming cpu in the background

I have tried Open Camera, unfortunately it doesn't go above 30 fps, even when selecting 60 as the approximate frame rate.
The developer told me it's how the encoder works (please see "post 1 & 2" I have linked in my first post, he explains it there pretty well.)
OOS camera worked for me well too, while I was actually using OOS. The AOSP camera doesn't support 60fps recording either.

gCam (modded) & best config *foto+video* (update: EOL)

In these thread i try to collect the best working gCam Version for the Xiaomi Mi A2 with the best functional and stable config. I get a lot of private messages because of the lack of good configurations. I try nearly every gCam version in the wild and always check the website from "celsoazevedo" for newer ones. Big THX to him, for the nice collection (www.celsoazevedo.com) and the Devs of the different kind of gCam mods. This mods are incredible and a game changer in the smartphone market! THX
Requierment: Activate Camera2Api
Best working Version so far (04.10.2018):
GCam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.3bfix.apk
Info: Focus Dots on clear blue sky can be reproduced. On yellow (i have just a yellow book and a banana) is nothing to see. I will added the strengh of focus dots to my criteria. In the attachment are three cropped pictrure (1/9 of the pic - center/focus) of clear bright blue sky, a bookcover with an own structure and a banana - all in heavy sunlight. The dots are just slithly visible in the sky... The Focus Dots on SkulShady builds are way stronger and bigger. I will test more builds in the next days.
Whats not working (with this version+config):
- 1080p in 60fps (heavy zoom - every gCam Version)
- 4K Video (Fatal Error - every gCam Version)
- Motion Pictures ('No HDR' & 'HDR+' - brake frontcam in normal mode)
Missing Features:
- Google Lens (need build 5.3.x)
- 20MP front-cam mode (just 5MP - every gCam Version, because camera2api limitation)
Working:
- All Photo features front+back
(Panorama, Photo Spehre, Focus Effect, Portrait)
- No HDR, HDR+, HDR+ enchased
- 1080p (30fps)
- Slow Motion Video (120fps)
- RAW+JPEG
- front focus led in 'No HDR' pictures
See config in the Attachment! :highfive: and dont forget to close and restart the app after configuration.
Update (06.10.2018): A new (older release) gladiator entered the arena to mess with Arnovas release. In reason of focus dots i played around with this version of gcam (THX to saneklic):
GCamera_Mod_v.5.1.23_R5Plus_fix_crash.apk
Unfortunatly its very cloudy in marroco, but first tests show no focus dots. More tests and a deep comparision (even with longer exposure pics) will follow. The important thing is, this release support the same video and photo capabilities. But more tests will come... At first this release is the new compatitor. The settings are complete different and i think, maybe low light might be difficult to beat, compared to Arnovas release - but we will
Update ENdOfLife: My device rebooted and stayed in a bootloop. I tryed to flash just the boot img etc. but the storage mmc gets corrupted :silly: all my vacation pics are gone. Thank sou Xiaomi. I send the device back and bought a OnePlus 6. Thats why im out here - sorry! :crying:
My Device: Xiaomi Mi A2 64/4 (no root/camera2api :good

Im actually for 10days in Marraco and make every picrure with the gCam (bright, dark, high contrast pictures) and cant recognize any focus dots :fingers-crossed. But i will take care about that dots
Update: i made some bright blue sky pics and can see the dots. I will try to find a plane yellow surface. But actually all seems fine. (I know, Arnova posted about a wrong raw mode from the dual camera driver - but still, i cant the any dot).
Update2: On a yellow book i photographed is nothing to see. But i put my attention to the strengh of the dots
Update 3: yellow banana in bright sun - no dots.

Check Settings for: „use classic smartburst“, restart App (close complete and Start) and voila
Im sure, front cam just works right now, when you switch at first to portrait mode and then switch to frontcam.
GCam_5.3.015-Pixel3Mod-Arnova8G2-1.4.apk
I test this.. seems good to me
I used [ cstark27_gCam_5.1.018_24_v4.1 [ Working All Except Slow Camera.]

Stock Camera HDR

I have the unlocked Exynos variant and on the latest pie update. When I set the HDR(Rich tone) option to always enabled, the resultant shots don't look like they have any HDR processing applied, but if it's set to auto, the same shot comes with much better controlled highlights.
I'm new to this phone, albeit this is my first Samsung.
With previous phones I've used, whenever HDR was forced to on, it applied HDR to every shot taken.
Am I missing something here? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
i have read on some website that when you set HDR to on but not "Always apply" but "Apply when needed" the photos come out better.
Unfortunatly i cannot find that site atm.
Also i often pull down exposure a bit in bright sunlight because despite hdr some hightlights get clipped sometimes.
Just in case you dont know, exposure compensation works by tapping on the viewfinder to focus, then use the "bulb" slider that appears briefly just above the "trees" ( wide-angle - telephoto switch). It can be hard to see in bright light though.
Hope that helps a bit

Question Camera App Bugs

Found a couple of bugs in the native camera app so far. One of them I posted in another thread which is the inability to turn off the obnoxiously loud camera shutter sound. There are even slider toggles to do it found in two different places in the camera app, but enabling and disabling the toggle does not turn off the sound.
The second one has to do with the beauty mode when taking selfies. When using the selfie camera, if you select the beautification option at the top (the icon that looks like a girl's head), you'll see 3 options at the bottom: Origin, Auto, and Personal. If you select Personal, you can adjust individual settings for things like slim face, smoothing, eye size, skin tone, color and brightness by utilizing a slider for each option. Well with the SMOOTH option, the placement of the slider that you choose NEVER sticks where you want it. For example, if you set the slider to 30 (it goes from 0 to 100) and then go to another option like eye size, and then come back to the smoothing option, the slider will not be where you put it. From what I can tell, the SMOOTH option is the only option where the slider never stays where you put it. It's pretty maddening. I've tried to clear the cache and data of the camera app but that doesn't work. In addition, the slim face option is hit and miss. When adjusting it you can see it trying to slim your face the farther you slide it to the right, but sometimes the app bugs out and it goes back and forth from slim to fat to slim to fat, etc. It's just buggy.
In the multi shot mode the EXIF metadata is not correct. It seems that the EXIF data from one of the modules (the one in focus?) is written to the two other images too.
In the "normal" camera mode the "2x" module works in the 35mm equivalent mode what is about 1.2-1.3x.
In the manual and the 64MP mode the 2x module is cropped an upscaled so that the label 2x is matching.
RAW/DNG images from ProShot show that the "2x" module is in fact a 1.2-1.3x module with an equivalent focal length of 35mm.
Is is also a shame that the multishot excludes the 2x module and incorporates only the 0.5x, 1x and 5x module producing a huge zoom gap in series.
Firmware MyOS12.0.8_A2022PG_G LB camera slows down in video mode, shoots jerkily. how to fix?
