Question My Mi 11 is not turning on (black screen) no edl mode - Xiaomi Mi 11

after seeing the new custom roms for the Mi 11 i jumped straight on and flash PE 12.1 and it bricked on me (gotta pay like 10 bucks), after that i went on another try with Evo X with no luck having no boot animation (only the Mi Boot splash) ,boot loops. after all of that i came back to xiaomi.eu 12.5.9 (twrp version) thats the end of the day. Next morning i tried my luck again leading to a brick with no solutions. i flashed twrp and reboot into the bootloader and it never wakes up again (no edl)

If you have windows PC and in device manager PC still recognize driver 9008 you are good to go. For another edl unbrick. If not , check your driver's and USB ports . Change ports etc

it doesnt show the 9008 driver and it wont respond to any button combinations like fastboot or hard reset

Check some other USB port, or other PC - laptop. Reinstall driver, download latest. Restart PC. Use original USB cable that came with the phone. Make sure that cable is working....

Ok., Open the back find the pins and shorten. I manage to do this, but couldn't install. For this you really need someone with authorized account that will get codes from manufacturer... Etc. Good luck

Try to remove the battery and press on the power button at least 2 minutes.

Open your phone and connect edl pin points,
By the way, you need to have proper MIUI 13 installed before flashing thise roms, and if you used twrp to flash it, that's not the way to go

I know it's been a long while since you had this problem, but as I have to face it myself without any clue how to solve it I thought it was a good idea to recover this thread.
First of all, let me say it happened to me with a Xiaomi mi5s. I had already installed adb & fastboot, as well as Xiaomi drivers from the Xiaomi Unlock Tool.
The problem arose when I made a partial firmware upgrade through fastboot in order to install LOS 14.1 via TWRP. I could not geet into fastboot mode, the screen went completely black and no charging LED. Curiously my laptop (Win10) made a tiny nose everytime I pluged or unplugged it (the same one it does everytime you plug a new device) and saw that it recognised it as a 'Qualcomm HS-USB qloader 9008'. More curiously, Xiaomi Flash Tool (BTW, it was the beta version although I guess the latest version would have worked as well) recognised the device although everytime I tried to flash an official firmware I got a message error: 'cannot receive hello packet'.
Well, after some research I was scared because I didn't want to open the phone to unplug the battery or anything. But I read somewhere that someone had the same problem as me and that he tried Xiaomi Flash Tool until it worked.
That was it, that was the clue. Xiaomi Flash Tool ready, having initially recognised my mi5s, the phone connected to the laptop, I made the combination to get into fastboot (holding volume - & power button) until my laptop made a tiny nose (the same one I explained at the beginning). As soon as I heard it I left the phone and clicked on the flash button on Xiaomi Flash Tool. Yes, it worked out. I installed latest development chinese MIUI rom. From there, I got into fastboot, flashed a new recovery... Well that's another history, the fact is that the mi5s is working again and I must say I feel really relived.
If anyone encounters the same problem I had I hope this post is of any help to him/her.

Mi5 hard bricked?

Hey Guys,
yersterday i installed thrue TWRP the LineageOS + LOS Root + Gapps. Everything was fine... till today.
I would like to enter the bluetooth settings. After then, the display recognises no touch, went black. First i could restart the phone. After restart i was going to bluetooth again. But, the same... After that, no more response from the phone. No, Battery LED, No Fastboot, No Recovery. The phone seems dead.
When i connect the phone to PC there is a "qualcomm hs usb qdloader 9008" device listed but no more. Miflash recognises no phone, adb is not showing.
What can i do? In which state is the Phone? EDL?

Going black for no reason is a common problem of Mi5.
It's in EDL mode.
Flash a fastboot rom and you will be okay to go.

You don't need to flash anything. Just disconnect and reconnect the battery. 2 minutes job. You can find a tutorial on YouTube.

How often does the Mi5 land in this mode? This is already a risk because of the use in the long term.

In my case it happened very often on stock Lineage OS kernel. Never happened on Lineage while I was on DragonXia kernel or on MIUI.
OK! What can i do? Is it possible to switch the Kernel?
I have good news! Phone works after disconnect the battery. But this is not a solution.
I had after rebooting to ROM the same issue when i go to bluetooth settings. BT seems not working probably. If i go twice to BT settings the phone will brick.
Gesendet von meinem MI 5 mit Tapatalk
I had made a new installation with lineage OS without Root and mini Gapps. Now it seems, that BT will work normaly.

Keep trying with edl, maybe it's a driver issue, but if you can't get it to edl I don't think you can recover your phone ?

You need to use QPST.
Also you didn't need to open the phone, that step is outdated.
Go ahead and read up on installing all of the needed drivers and as long as your phone is linked to you. That is you have the phone registered to your MiCloud account this issue should be fixable.
I dont have a lot of time today or tomorrow. but I am willing to try and help you figure this issue out.

This could be an issue with the PC...happens all the time.
If the battery is not completely dead, or if the usb port is not completely fried you should be able to at least see the port.
It's also possible that you are not in EDL.
Simply Flashing the EU rom over Global will not brick your phone, I have done that myself many times. Was your bootloader unlocked? If not then you will probably need to take it to a Xiaomi Service center.
Does the phone mac any vibrations when pressing and holding both the volume up and down ( at same time along with the power button?
Have you tried alternate usb c cables?
If you have a newer computer with usb 3.0 ports you will need to use a Usb hub., which will downgrade the connection to usb 2?
Is ADB Installed on this computer along with generic android drivers?
is the computer up to date?
Have you tried an alternate user and are you using the admin account?
If you have a device that uses linux, see if Linux will see the phone.
If you have tried everything, and you still you see the phone, and the phone has not been exposed to an extreme amount of force or to water. It may be that your usb card in the phone is fried or there is a short in the internal usb flex cable. ( It's the wire that connects the usb card to the motherboard.
You can Google the steps to make your own deep flash cable, that would help rule things out much faster.
I am going to sleep now. Good Luck.
@tsongming Do you know why he bricked his phone? I mean he just flashed .eu.

The EU rom does not lock the bootloader, the developers actually removed the bit of code that will allow MiFlash to lock the bootloader. Whenever leaving or returning to Miui, storage must be formatted.
The problem with these custom roms for the Mi8 is that These mi8 developers do not work together ( like most do, on other threads) These developers are always fighting and arguing and accusing each other of stealing their code, while they do it themselves and they all have their own way of doing things. Ideally every rom should use the same device tree, firmware and vendor...The basics! But no, everyone does things differently.
I would suspect that your phone bricked due to firmware encryption or just corruption. Even though it seems that it can't be fixed, you will surely be able to fix it eventually.
Many people were eventually able to solve this exact issue in the past with success. so start with the basics., and dont give up when or if it fails, just try again on a different device, and be sure to disable Windows defender. Because it's possible you could have your computer setup in a way that it will make this process harder to resolve, temporarily disable the antivirus and firewall etc.
Download the All in One tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/development/tool-tool-one-driverstwrpfactory-t3895807 If it gets flagged, and completely disabled. then your computer is helping contribute to this issue.
If you can successfully install and open the tool, use it to update adb and android drivers and to apply system wide adb access. Next manually setup the phone , even if it claims to not see a fastboot device. and attempted to remove encryption. if this fails find a Linux machine to complete these tasks.
See if you can leave EDL, by pressing and holding the power and volume down. >>>>> Even if you dont see the fastboot screen the computer may see the phone in fastboot.
I definitely believe that you will have a easier path to getting this issue resolved sooner by using linux. If you can "format" ( not wipe) user data, install TWRP and root the rest will obviously be easy.

Question Help needed. I think I bricked my phone...

I installed android 12 beta on my Mi 11 ultra. Did not like it and wanted to install global. Installed TWRP, wiped data and instead of rebooting in twrp, I tried to enter fastboot mode via adb. The phone screen turned black. Now it is not showing in ADB, not detected by Mi flash tool, not enetering fastboot mode and not entering recovery. When I connect it to computer, there is this connecting sound but soon it is followed by disconnecting sound. Not even getting the charging screen. In the device manager on Windows, there is this Qualcum HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM9) when the phone is connected via USB cable to PC.
Anyway to restore any firmware on it? It is a CN version, star, has bootloadder unlocked.
EDL time? Or even worse? Is it paperweight now?

Believe me, this is reassuring. I'm happy to settle on EDL instead of paperweight... For EDL does the phone need to be opened, back cover removed and then that magic short circuit or is there a way to get it done without opening the phone?

Don't worry. When mine was EDL flashed the guy asked me to download a specific miflash version that he had the link for and the ROM of choice to be flashed. I connected the phone to the PC, he connected, asked me to put it in to EDL mode ( he will explain if your not sure) and done his stuff using TeamViewer with control of my desktop. Once finished, just rebooted when asked, all done.

Hold both vol up and down while powering up or adb, adb reboot edl or fastboot, fastboot oem edl . You will see edl drivers load on your PC.
Thank you guys for your replies. I got it fixed and now it is rocking again. If anybody faces the same issue, please see details below.
Diagnosis: EDL mode
Signs and problems: Completely dead phone. Black screen. None of the buttons or their combinations work. Volume down plus power, volume up plus power, Both volume buttons, All three buttons. None of these worked in this EDL mode. In fact, the only sign that this phone was "alive" was the Qualcomm driver showing in the device manager when the phone was connected to a PC. There was this yellow sign even on the Qualcomm driver and the official Xiaomi flash tool failed to detect the phone due to the Qualcomm driver malfunction. Got the Qualcomm driver working (the yellow sign on the driver name icon in device manager) by disabling windows driver signature check. After this the phone was detected by the official Xiaomi flash tool. When I tried to flash the official and stock CN ROM, it did not allow me and gave the error "you are not authorized to download". Took the phone to Xiaomi service, they refused as the phone was of another region. They did not know any unofficial paid solution. Took it to local technicians. They tried but failed (ultimate multi-tool, some other tool they called as "aqua" did not work.
Treatment: Searched online and found a YouTube channel (
). Paid USD 35 and got it flashed via TeamViewer. I just sat anxiously (praying that he must not be a scammer...). He did some magic and successfully flashed the phone with the original CN ROM with the boot loader unlocked. I then was able to install the global version via fastboot as usual.
Thanks again for the free support I got here. Obliged and stay blessed

I tried this method today and it wasn't successful. It appeared he flashed it with his auth code, but it still doesn't power on. I'm so bummed because DHL won't touch the phone for less than $151 (risk of it being sent back) because seller wants me to lie and say it's a gamepad when DHL has precautions on phones being sent back, etc. requiring importer certificates.
My phone was acting strange on 3rd day: wasn't detecting charging USB cable overnight, would only charge wirelessly. I manually rebooted a bunch of times, then it detected the USB charging and would charge. About that time I updated to Miui 13 OTA update (Chinese /EN Rom) and noticed it was rebooting randomly in my pocket asking for PIN (not getting notifications) . Again got no USB charging through cable.
I was doing a bunch of vol up/down and Power and rebooted into safe mood. Rebooted again after things were 'ok' and little while later, the phone was OFF and never came back on again.
Did I put it into EDL and brick it this way? I Never flashed anything through USB until I tried the 35eur paid service dude.
Happy to see that is being fixed.
Wish it had fixed mine. Unfortunately, it didn't . Was refunded

Hi, make sure that your battery is full, then hold VOl + and power key together and connect USB cable and see if is detected. The other things is to flash with edl mode but you need testpoint and flash tool like MRT... See over the internet for your model...
Vol+ and power key doesn't shows any sign.
Try then with VOl - and power but keep pressing and plug usb cable, if that doesn't work you need edl flashing....
Does edl supports in MTK processores?
Hi, sorry I mixed your device with Mi 9 model.... For MTK chipset you need BROM mode, so try to hold both VOL + and VOL - and plug usb cable and see if is detected... If it doesn't then send your device to nearby service center in order to flash with service box...
It shows something in ports......and few seconds later it goes away.
Good sign, then follow this flashing... use only if you have same chipset!
Mine is Mediatek G80 / MTK6769
