Question Is there a fix for poor typing on S8 Ultra Keyboard cover? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S8

Hi guys, I have serious problems with external keyboards on my Tab S8 Ultra. The typing sucks. It wont pick up when I type double letters. It's is awful. Sometimes in almost every sentence on a page! It does this with Bluetooth keyboards. I wasn't too worried as I was waiting for the dock to arrive thinking it was a third party issue. But no, exactly the same with the official keyboard dock. It is unbearable! Anyone know of a fix for this apart from typing painfully slowly.
I also have a iPad M1 Pro and with keyboard dock and have no problems typing on that. But I am not an Apple guy so I don't want to have to switch back for work stuff. Any help?

I haven't noticed this issue yet. I think I've only used the keyboard cover. Tried rebooting? I wonder if there's some kind of wireless interference that's only affecting the tablet?

Yeah ive triex all that. Of coirse there may be something about the way i type, pretty fast, that is causing a problem. But i have never had this problem on other devices or keyboards.

This is a very common issue using bluetooth keyboards on a mobile device, which has yet to be resolved

I have the exact opposite problem: I get double letters, where I do not want them. But on the other hand, I never had issues getting double letters when I want them.

There was an update a while ago for the keyboard. I had some lag when typing, but after the update it's working fine for how I use it

I have an issue where sometimes it won't register an input, and other times it will act like it's holding down whateve key I happen to be pressing at the time. It literally did it while typing this comment, and added like 20 spacebar inputs. I'm using the OEM keyboard cover with the S8 Ultra.

I just half an hour ago reproduced this issue, or one close enough to it, although I'm not convinced it's even the keyboard or just Samsung's version of Android, or a bug in Chrome. I tried the same thing in Firefox and Brave (the last is also Chromium-based) with no issue, and was able to reproduce the issue in Chrome consistently. Eventually, but a long time after, Chrome would FC.

Mine is definitely Samsung related, whether hardware or software. It will replicate often in any app as long as I'm typing unfortunately

I use mine with a Apple Magic keyboard 2 and have not experienced this. My annoyance is that when opening a tab in Dex and start typing it defaults to the curser to the tablet and not my external monitor

Easy:
Go to settings -> accessibility -> interaction and dexterity -> disable "bounce keys"

Not needed. As I suspected its a software issue. someone sorted it today for me on the Samsung Forum. It's an easy fix.
Go to settings, then interaction and dexterity and turn off 'bounce keys'.
Now it works perfectly!

Unfortunately neither of these will work for me. I've tried cleaning the pins and every other solution. I'm pretty disappointed in this $300 keyboard

Best way to fix keyboard repeates without taking apart?

Im sure a fair number of you will have experienced the same thing where you press a key once and you get like 3 of that letter and sometimes for me the Fn key doesnt work too well either
i've tried like swirling the keys around to move dust etc but it didnt help
maybe i should just send it back? becuase its really annoying
I also have this problem sometimes. Thought it might be a software problem or so, but maybe you are right and particles are collecting there.
Did someone try that on X1?
Well, if there was such a solution I wouldn't have to send my X1 to the service centre. And just delaying it as much as possible, but given that my warranty ends next week, I'd probably have to go down soon. And anyway, it's not just repeats that I'm facing. Sometimes it's the other way round, as in the keyboard not responding unless I press the key down real hard.

just tried, and seems to work! thanks
settings-personal-buttons-up/down control
delay before first repeat set to long
repeat rate 3 from fast
works good!
I'd say it works about 80-90%. It does save the X1 from the trash piles, so kudos to the friendly guy who dug up the solution, and no kudos to SE and/or MS who can't think of fine-tuning the keyboard settings before they ship a product that was $800-900 unlocked at launch.
Caveat and an inappropriate rant: I remember doing so much research, and everyone across so many different forums said a hardware keyboard is the way to go if you do a lot of texting. Not true. I find that hardware keyboards require a lot of efforts to press compared to a virtual keyboard, even worse if it's not spaciously laid out, and even worse if, unlike the X1, the positioning of the keys relative to each other is off.
Truth is I type even faster on an iPhone/ipod touch than an X1, without feeling like an RSI is coming on, and it's not because of predictive text entry. It's because my thumbs can use a lot less force on the keys. I believe most people still press way too hard on a touch screen trying to be control freaks.
So the keyboard may be 80-90% improved, but I've got my budget ready for an iPhone. And no more listening, no more being open to suggestions!

Well, I don't want to live without h/w keyboard anymore. And I did a fast typing challenge against an iPhone and won. The guy who wrote on that iPhone was a real freak, had an iPhone since it came out and types really fast...but I love the h/w keyboard on the xperia. If it would not have this double-letter error I would love it even more...Now I'm going to fix it with the solution mentioned above. Thanks!
I just want to add one thing...
The reason I say the fix is 80-90%, is because I think CPU speed and/or power settings might contribute somewhat to the keyboard issue. Once last week, I had the phone plugged into AC, and the keyboard suddenly became free of issues, and responded properly to my typical typing efforts.
Using nueCPL-ClockSpeed v1.3 in an unscientific test, the keyboard produces more mistakes on a lower speed (384MHz), but its Max Performance setting didn't exactly reproduce the AC power remedy.
This is not a very stringent observation at all, but since I am stuck with the X1 for a while, I'll keep on trying I'm betting that the next iPhone will be a significant update, so I have to hold off the purchase for now... and kiss NRGZ28's toes for his rom's.

[REVIEW] Motorola Xoom Bluetooth Keyboard

I just got my Xoom bluetooth keyboard in today for my nook, and I got to say... I couldn't be happier
Typing on this thing is so easy as it is a full size keyboard. The keys are nice and big, but not to big but just the right size. They have a nice spacing and the whole keyboard just seems to flow and it let's your fingerrs move fast across the keys.
It does have it down sides such as: not all the keys seem to work most do without a problem but caps lock does not work, as does the Tab button. Arrow keys work, but they seem to be swithed, the left arrow goes up, the right arrow down, the up arrow left, and the down arrow, right. I assume these keys work on a computer that can make use of a bluetooth keyboard but seeing as my computer does not have such functionailty, I cannot test it out.
Around the edges there is a glossy finish which leads to mucho fingerprints. The keys are matte, so the only time they ever seem to get nasty is when you are really greassy, or you are sweaty.
All in all, I'd have to give this keyboard an 8/10 It would get a 7, but seeing as how I got it from wal-mart for around $10-20 cheaper, it makes it a great deal
P.S. It's not AS sexy as the pictures make it look :/ but its very slim and is still pretty sexy in person
P.S.S The nook box makes a great "dock" when you are at a table at the library
P.S.S.S I just took a typing test on my nook and got 58 words per minute, which is just a little slower than my normal typing speed of 65 on my computers keyboard
LOOK FOR PICS BELOW
*Sorry if my grammer and punction are off, I did type this all from the keyboard and will edit it when I can get home.
Thanks for letting us know, it sure does look cool

Ahhh that does make sense... And I guess that also means if I was using the stock music player the music keys would work. I am using phirmod 5.1 and the music keys don't work, the menu key doesn't work, and the keyboard seems to disconnect... kinda a lot. And I wishI could fix the key mappings on the dpad but I'll get used to it I assume

I didn't use an app, there is a website called 10speedyfingers, or something, that will let you check you wpm online. Just Google it and you should find it
@DiscoPh3v3r: can you post a photo of nook and keyboard together for size comparison? Thanks.
you beat me on a review by one day! I also got it from wal-mart ship-to-store (expecting to get a text from them any minute saying it's there) and was surprised at the price difference even over Amazon! I figured man this is MADE for android, why not get it? the first BT keyboard I bought I had to take back (from Frys) bcuz not only was it broken, but also it was so small I don't know how they can consider it a full sized keyboard.
I'll be getting mine, as I said, today or tomorrow, so I'll write my thoughts on here as well (as long as the OP doesn't mind).
Quick question, does it come with a case or anything to protect it? If not, I'll be looking for something to do so since I usually carry my nook and such in my backpack...
Ill try to post a picture but camera isn't very good
And it doesnt really come with a case, but it does come with a nice little plastic sleeve it comes wrapped in, sure it will look cheap, but it works great for me.
Hey Disco, got mine today and it works great except for it going to sleep mid typing pretty often, any idea why and how to fix it? This would about ruin it for me if I can't get it fixed...

Yup, that was one of my mine gripes. I cant seem to get it to stay connected, I'm hoping it is nook related and not keyboard related, so that it can be fixed with a new nightly. As of late I have not been able to get to stay connected because sometimes it will last about 30minutes and then die, and other times it takes just a second or 2.

after talking to others, searching around the net, and frustrating attempt at fixes, I found a work-around. Download the app Bluetooth Keyboard JP, change the settings in settings > Language and Keyboard to that app, then connect the keyboard.
I went from a (max) of 45 seconds connected to not getting disconnected after writing a lengthy email, posting to facebook, and letting it sit for 10 minutes. I also didn't get that problem where the keyboard would seem connected, but all of a sudden hit the back button and exit out of the app/screen I was in.
It does have it's issues, though. One being that the faster you type the less responsive it is. I'm a very fast typer and it's hard for me to slow down, but it still was ok. Sometimes it will repeat a keystroke (i.e. we will turn into wwwwwwwwwwwwwwe), and sometimes the special character box will pop up while tying (although I think this, again, had to do with fast typing).
I'm going to try to get in contact with the CM7 devs and see what they think and if there is a fix in the works (or at least point it out to them and tell them about the app). Knowing those guys, they'll probably be able to fix the initial issue and eliminate the other problems with it!
Edit: Oh and with this app I was able to get tab to work on some apps, but not others (seems to work good with mobile websites), the back button works perfectly, as does the home key and search.

I have a different Bluetooth keyboard and it does the exact same thing on my nook, works fine on my desire. So i do believe that it is nook related and not the keyboard.
I posted in the thread below how to get arrow keys working in landscape mode and menu button to function correctly. I attempted to make other keys work as well. See link. Expand the single post to see additional details given by me in the next post.

Getting a better look at this multitouch issue, with some good ol' community feedback

Hey guys,
Thought I'd post this here and keep you guys updated on further developments.
I live in the Netherlands and bought a 32GB version at Dixons at the 13th of November 2012
I had found the touchscreen a bit unresponsive sometimes in the past.
But couldn't really find out why it was acting up. I finally isolated the issue.
It is exactly the same as this guys vid:
(Thanks for the vid injahnet)
Together with a little backlight bleeding, I decided to send for repair.
(The problem persisted after a factory reset, no other apps were open when testing.)
I went back to Dixons and showed the problem to the Dixons dude.
He acknowledged there was an issue and sent it for repairs or replacement.
Due to the holidays this can take some time. Maybe even next year
I was about to open my tablet for a look inside one of these days, boy am I glad I didn't do that yet
Anyway to get a good view on this issue globally, are there more people that have the same issue?
You could go to: Settings > Developer options > and then under "Input" you can enable Show touches. and try to to the same procedure as in the vid. (Thanks Peterk-1)
Or you could test with MultiTouchTester like Injahnet.
The weird thing is, my dad's N7 16GB does the same.
Update 17-12-2012: Please do not test while plugged in as the device will be grounded and the issue will not occur. (Thanks dad)
Feedback is really appreciated!
Please vote in the poll above!
Cheers,
Daan
I have zero problems with multitouch while using my Nexus 7. Working just fine, but you must disable any apps which interfere with gestures or it'll steal events.
Can't say I've ever used multitouch with the N7 laying on a random object however.
But sure, send it in for repair......... I'll keep using mine.
If anyone thinks they have multi touch problems then loading an app isn't required. Just go into Developer Options and under Input you have two options to display touch and track detail.

Yes, i have this problem. And only while device is laying on the table.
Wow, this is bizarre, thanks for pointing it out. I can confirm it happens when it's laying on my pillow, and doesn't when I'm holding it.
Thanks for the vote guys.
By the way, it seems obvious that the Nexus should not be plugged in while testing.
However I cannot test this 'cause mine is at the shop
Would anyone be willing to test?
I'll add that in the original post (+ a mention of your name and a thank you of course))

Exactly! I was also thinking of this.
Do people who have this issue also have the flickering issue!?
ecoviws buttress
Just an FYI, I installed CM 10.1 with Trinty Seven. Now I get 10 touches on pretty much any surface.
I don't have a multitouch issue, but I do have an entire band on my screen which has stopped responding to touch at times. It all started when I let my tab shut down due to low battery. Initially, the Nexus 7 neither charged (when put on charging, obviously), nor did it boot up. After trying for several hours, somehow it started charging. And since then, sometimes certain areas of my touchscreen become unresponsive to touch. Since the band which is unresponsive is towards the upper part of the screen, using notifications becomes completely impossible. It keeps 'snapping back up' when I try to pull it down, cos while I am pulling it down, the notification tray encounters an unresponsive area, so it just goes back up. Called up Google and they will be sending a replacement device. All I am afraid about is that I have an 8gb version, and they would be sending an 8gb as well, so I hope it isn't refurbished or something, as Asus has stopped making the 8gig model.
I'm having an issue where the screen, ( mostly in a webpage or document,) starts moving up and down and zooming in and out without my input.

this isn't new and there is no fix, that is just how the touchscreen function. the N7 isn't the only device to have this.

It is to see how many people have this issue.
There is no thread capturing that in an easy way unless you want to count every post.
Now please tell your brain to start functioning again and leave this thread alone if you have nothing to add.
Asus Google Nexus 7 32GB touch death zone
Hi DaanJordaan,
Found out that my brand new N7 seems to have a similar "no touch zone" issue; an area the size of my little finger on the left lower part of my screen does not seem to react to touch! It interferes with typing the keyboard in portrait mode (no keyboard problems in up-side-down portrait mode).
When I use the Easylabs Multi Touch test I can see the dot changing color when I move over this area, doesn't happen anywhere else on the screen..
Using the developer tools (turning on the two options that allows to show touch/leave a trail of touch) it becomes even more clear that this area does not react to touch! I can "paint" lines around the "no touch zone" (it actually splits into 2 touch areas using one finger around the "death spot"), and the "no touch zone" reveals itself by not showing any trail/history line of touch..
Oh yes, and it does not matter if I lay the N7 on the table, or hold it in my hand, the issue is always there.
Therefore I returned the N7 back to the MediaMarkt, and they will send it in for repairs...
I've got a bad feeling about this | - )
I am curious to hear about experiences with your N7, once you have it back!
I'll report mine here, in three weeks or so (that's the outlook...).
Cheers!

Screen Lag while charging

Anyone having a similar experience? Any sort of screen input seems to bog down really bad and finding myself having to retype things and hit keys again. Wondering if it is somehow heat related? Or some kind of software flaw? It happens with the stock keyboard and swiftkey as well. Any input is appreciated, thank you.
This happens to me all the time now. It is really annoying. I'm going to do a clean reinstall and see if that helps.
It happens to many people. I get this too sometimes when typing on keyboard, it will miss some of the keys/letters. It could be touchscreen issue and/or LG Keyboard issue. The interesting thing is that when I started to use the phone it didn't do that, but in 4 or 5 days it started to do that. I cleared the cache of LG Keyboard, but still didn't help. I hope LG gives us some sort of software update even if it is not 5.1.1. We need a normal working phone!
Yeah interestingly enough it happens mostly on the charger. When I'm off, it seems to be pretty much good. Although it does miss some presses on occasion if I don't press deliberately enough. It's almost as though the touch screen sensitivity is botched
Yes common lg issue. No idea why
change the keyboard and hopefully lg will send a software update to fix this and this only while charging also is your phone usable
What temps are you guys getting when the Keyboard lag occurs while charging for both battery and CPU?
In my case and also others have reported that keyboard lag occurs in any condition if the phone is charging and when it is not. I think I have eliminated the keyboard lag by disabling vibrate in LG Keyboard settings. Now don't have any missed key presses.
I get this when charging very time, and I don't use the LG keyboard. It's definitely a hardware issue. I don't use the stock LG charger though, but it doesn't sound like that would make a difference.

Spen problems

Anyone else experiencing spen glitchy behavior? Example I'll be hovering the pen over the screen and it'll scroll or select things without me touching the screen and sometimes it won't register the spen touching the screen when I actually try to scroll, or I'll use the square app at work and when my clients need to sign the screen it'll register the pen before even touching the screen. I really like the spen feature but at this point it's too unreliable to even use, is this normal behavior? My wife's note 8 exhibits the same behavior. Tmo note 8 and we both factory restored before setting up and did clean install no transfer data crap.

Are you using a case with a magnetic kick stand?
My guess is yes.. can't use that with the Note's digitizer as the S-pen tech is magnetic based
If this is not the case (pun intended) then you probably have a faulty S-pen or Digitizer

Some of the Same
I also absolutely love the S Pen and I've had the note line for years. This time around with the Note 8 I'm experiencing a weird glitch that's happening with Google products ie Google Chrome Google app Google Maps. Especially when I use the Google app to read different articles. When I open the articles it will literally freeze and not recognize any touch. However if I open that article with my finger and scrolled just a little bit with my finger then I don't suffer the same problem but if I initiate scrolling with the S Pen it freezes every time. This is really frustrating to the point where I have to force close the app to get it to respond at all.... Google and Samsung please figure this out!!!! It really is maddening!!!
At least Spen works with no issue on my phone. I use it pretty often for making notes and also I found it faster and convenient to write in chat messages..
Try changing the nib. I had similar problems which seem to have gone after a nib change, maybe coincidental.
No problem on mine at all. See if you can borrow spen from somebody and test with different pen maybe? Also I would reset the phone and test again, before sending it back.
I exchanged the phone and so far it's been good, fingers crossed
Are you maybe triggering some of the events and tools that the S-pen does without touching the screen? One place this first "caught" me off guard was reading email. When you hover just of the screen it gives you choices and can do actions. There are also scroll choices in Chrome that fire up by hovering.
Just to make sure, I suggest watching
.
If it isn't behaving like in the video and you know you aren't triggering hover events, then I would definitely get it replaced.
I can't understand why third party case makers continue making cases with magnets in them for our Note series. It usually causes issues with the S-Pen. Like, a foldable stand can just be designed to "click" in place when not in use. You don't need a magnet for that. And for the wallet type cases they can just use velcro or something to clip it back into place without a magnet.
Any update? I also sent my phone in for repair of a similar issue and when I got it back, it seems like nothing was fixed. Samsung wrote that they "replaced cosmetic" whatever that means?
I had a similar issue with my note 7, as the recall started and I refused to surrender my note7, claiming warranty was not an option, I bought a spen, and, that solved it, to this day works fine, in this case with a note 8, you must go and claim warranty or, try with some one else's spen to sort the problem out
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately in my case it seems like the s pen is not the issue. I've gone into a Best Buy and used their pen and I still encounter the same issue :/

I had the same problem when searching with Google and the result was shown in Chrome. Using the SPen and the site hang. Using my finger no problem. I then changed from Samsung Internet Browser to Chrome as default browser. The problem was gone.
