AASpeechToText: an app for entering voice commands in languages not officially supported by Android Auto - Android Auto General

Hi all,
We created a free open source application that allows you to enter voice commands for navigation and contacts on Android Auto, for languages that are currently not supported by Android Auto.
The problem is that the google assistant in android auto is only supported in the following countries:
- Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela
So if you live in any other county, you are unable to enter addresses or contacts with voice commands, because they are recognized in English, and not in the local language. This means that most addresses and contacts are impossible to enter with voice commands
AASpeechToText is an Android Auto app, that allows you to select your language, and then to record in your local language. If it recognizes a "hot word" as the first word, it searches your contacts, and opens a screen where you can select the contact you want to call. If no "hot word" is recognized, it opens the default navigation app to the desired address or search term.
AASpeechToText is currently translated in English, Greek, Hungarian and Croatian, but it can work in the following languages:
- Albanian (Albania) (sq-AL), Amharic (Ethiopia) (am-ET), Arabic (Algeria) (ar-DZ), Arabic (Bahrain) (ar-BH), Arabic (Egypt) (ar-EG), Arabic (Iraq) (ar-IQ), Arabic (Israel) (ar-IL), Arabic (Jordan) (ar-JO), Arabic (Kuwait) (ar-KW), Arabic (Lebanon) (ar-LB), Arabic (Morocco) (ar-MA), Arabic (Oman) (ar-OM), Arabic (Qatar) (ar-QA), Arabic (Saudi Arabia) (ar-SA), Arabic (State of Palestine) (ar-PS), Arabic (Tunisia) (ar-TN), Arabic (United Arab Emirates) (ar-AE), Arabic (Yemen) (ar-YE), Armenian (Armenia) (hy-AM), Azerbaijani (Azerbaijan) (az-AZ), Bengali (Bangladesh) (bn-BD), Bosnian (Bosnia and Herzegovina) (bs-BA), Bulgarian (Bulgaria) (bg-BG), Burmese (Myanmar) (my-MM), Chinese, Cantonese (Traditional Hong Kong) (yue-Hant-HK), Chinese, Mandarin (Simplified, China) (zh (cmn-Hans-CN), Croatian (Croatia) (hr-HR), Czech (Czech Republic) (cs-CZ), English (Ghana) (en-GH), English (Hong Kong) (en-HK), English (Kenya) (en-KE), English (Nigeria) (en-NG), English (Pakistan) (en-PK), English (Tanzania) (en-TZ), Estonian (Estonia) (et-EE), Finnish (Finland) (fi-FI), Georgian (Georgia) (ka-GE), Greek (Greece) (el-GR), Hebrew (Israel) (iw-IL), Hungarian (Hungary) (hu-HU), Icelandic (Iceland) (is-IS), Kazakh (Kazakhstan) (kk-KZ), Khmer (Cambodia) (km-KH), Lao (Laos) (lo-LA), Latvian (Latvia) (lv-LV), Lithuanian (Lithuania) (lt-LT), Macedonian (North Macedonia) (mk-MK), Malay (Malaysia) (ms-MY), Mongolian (Mongolia) (mn-MN), Nepali (Nepal) (ne-NP), Persian (Iran) (fa-IR), Romanian (Romania) (ro-RO), Serbian (Serbia) (sr-RS), Sinhala (Sri Lanka) (si-LK), Slovak (Slovakia) (sk-SK), Slovenian (Slovenia) (sl-SI), Spanish (El Salvador) (es-SV), Spanish (Honduras) (es-HN), Spanish (Nicaragua) (es-NI), Swahili (Kenya) (sw-KE), Swahili (Tanzania) (sw-TZ), Tamil (Malaysia) (ta-MY), Tamil (Sri Lanka) (ta-LK), Ukrainian (Ukraine) (uk-UA), Urdu (Pakistan) (ur-PK), Uzbek (Uzbekistan) (uz-UZ), Vietnamese (Vietnam)
Make sure to select your local language either on the settings screen on your phone, or by saying "Language", followed by your language name (in English).
The source code of the app is available here: https://gitlab.com/ron.gr/aa-speech-to-text
You may download the app from google play at this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gr.ron.aaspeechtotext
We are interested in having more people contributing to the project by:
1. Reporting bugs
2. Submitting feature requests
3. Adding UI translations in more languages
4. Anything else.
So feel free to either post here, or open an issue/pull request on Gitlab.

Good.. I already have a solution with Tasker to work in Greek (and every language) but I'll try it to see if it works better/simpler.
My solution is to use tasker to:
-disable all keyboards when AA is starting and keep only Google voice as phone keyboard.
- In android auto select to use the keyboard of the phone.
There isn't a real keyboard in phone so Google voice is open, so you just say anything and it writes in AA.
-when AA stops, keyboard in phone is enabled again.

Working fine. Here's a video :

Working fine on Audi A4 B9 but I got two Error messages:
1. onError 5 ERROR_CLIENT - when I choose "End Recording" while Recording.
2. onError 7 ERROR_NO_MATCH - when address has been already recognized, Google Maps started fine. But, for some reason, it starts Recording in Google Maps again finished with this error message, which I have to cancel every time.
Actually, app is always starting to record TWICE! Even after all is recognized and started first time.

Thank you for the report.
I have noticed this, and it has been fixed in commit https://gitlab.com/ron.gr/aa-speech-to-text/-/commit/97b9c423835d70c716b0e24f1481e57f1d20497b, but the update was rejected at google play, not sure why.
Try to install the apk or the aab from the repository directly and it should work without the messages: https://gitlab.com/ron.gr/aa-speech-to-text/-/blob/master/automotive/release/automotive-release.aab https://gitlab.com/ron.gr/aa-speech.../intermediates/apk/debug/automotive-debug.apk

Thanks, installed, I will try it today.
Anyway, is there an easier method for adding translations? I don't have android studio (and don't want to install it).
Maybe by edit xml file?

Yes it is possible.
Create a file with the same structure as file https://gitlab.com/ron.gr/aa-speech...automotive/src/main/res/values-el/strings.xml
To see the meaning of each word see the english file at https://gitlab.com/ron.gr/aa-speech-to-text/-/blob/master/automotive/src/main/res/values/strings.xml
Maybe create an issue with the new xml and I will compile it to test it.

Thank you very much, I just pushed the translation to Gitlab, and sent the app for review on google play, let's hope it passes this time.

Nice work!! I'll defently contribute.
Addresses works great (which is already worth it)
but can't manage to search contacts. It's always search for addresses only even if it's recognizing the word "Contact" as prefix

Thank you for the kind words.
Regarding contact search, what recognition and UI languages are you using? You're saying that the navigation opens with an address such as "Contact John Doe", is this correct?
I have tested it with Greek recognition and English and Greek UI and it seems to be working on my end. Note that the "hot word" will be different depending on the UI language.

In Croatian language everything's fine with "contact" hotword, works fine. App version is ok under google store now.
I would like to change just one small translation phrase, if its possible (for the next version)

Sure, just add an updated strings.xml for Croatian, and I'll replace the existing file.

Here's new (fixed) croatian translation: https://easyupload.io/d6lh27
There are also two small bugs (or is it a feature?):
1. When you choose an option to record voice and stay silent it ends with "onError 7 ERROR_NO_MATCH"
2. When you choose an option to record voice and choose last option to cancel recognition it ends with "onError 5 ERROR_CLIENT"

Just pushed it to google play, should be updated shortly.

Thanks, all ok!

Hungarian language has been added (Thanks @Czirják Tamás)
Waiting for approval on Google Play.

You have no idea how much I searched for something like that!
Thank you!

Just because Google Assistant cannot speak local languages

@Miro:
Did you get the certs I have created ?
I have ready a mi7Rom with our cert cooked in => cabsender works now with my own (signed) cabs.
In the meantime I also have updated the Local Scout icon...
Will send you the updated file later today...
Nice Rom! But whats the difference between ultrashot unlock
and dft unlock? And whats the difference between ultrashot xap ie
and dft xap ie?
thanks in advance
The unlocks just remove different protections on the ROM that prevent customisation as far as I know. Ultrashot is credited with allowing the search button to be mapped to different functions while the DFT unlock allows native code applications to be run like Opera Mobile.
As for the different between the XAP IE installers - no idea! Both will do the same thing I imagine.

- ultrashot unlock (premissed) will be possible to upload officiall updates over cab sender
-
it contain all other unlocks, the dft method also =
- generally to instal xap (no difference)
- pervent zune to relock the device again
- install xap over ie mobile (no difference)
- run native code apps (old wm apps, like opera mobile 10)
+ ability to remap the searchbutton function
is the best, latest unlock on a custom rom ...........

[ROM] [4.1.2] DDLSZ (XXLSZ ported with DDLSC)

As per the dev consences going around, the recently released DDLSC JB 4.1.2 ROM for India is just a repack of the old German XXLSC. Since Samsung updated the XXLSC to XXLSZ and gave us the crappy DDLSC, I deceided to make DDLSZ.
This is my first ROM.
It is a "lite" version of the stock XXLSZ ported for Indian Sales Code. Removed other languages and ported Indian languages with GB and US English.

Language packs
Here are the language packs for the keyboard from their respective Stock ROM.
These should work with any JB ROM. I have tested it only on my DDLSZ, but in theory it should work on any ROM, stock, custom, odexed, deodexed... try it and tell me.
This basically replaces the language package that you have on your phone with the new language pack you download from here.
Always make a nandriod backup. This mod will not wipe your data or system. It will just replace the existing language files. Backup to be safe.
Installation:
Download the language pack you want.
Place it on your phone.
Boot into the CWM and flash the pack from the location where you saved it on the phone.

*Last one*
system/bin to xbin of XXLSZ (copy)
system/bin to xbin to DDLSC (paste)
Thai its quite simple actually. You need to copy the T9DB folder from each ROM, edit the language.xml file accordingly and move it to the csc folder. I added Indian languages and removed European languages from the XXLSZ.
Will be uploading my ROM a little while later. : )
can you explain in details what you remove to leave only one language.
before flashing a rom I clean in .zip and I leave only that
\system\T9DB\
phonepad_fr.xml
qwerty_fr.xml
Samsung_905_r1-11_FRusUN_xt9_ALM.ldb
system\tts\lang_pico\
fr-FR_nk0_sg.bin
fr-FR_ta.bin
system\tts\lang_SMT\
5* smt_fr_FR*.*
/system/hdic/fr
/system/wakeupdata/sensory/nn fr and fr galaxy tune
I see in /system/csc/ some folders like XEO KOR ITV common BTU and XEF
it seems that XEF is FR language
what is CSC fonction and can I remove all except XEF and maybe common????
thank's

You could have put the question in the same thread from where you copied it.
Anyway, XEO, KOR, ITV, XEF and all are the CSC folders. They contain the codes specific to the region for which the phone is intended and sold.
The T9DB folder contain the language and font databases.
You need to have the language files from the T9DB folder of that particular ROM from which you want the languages on the keyboard to your T9DB folder.
Then, you need to copy the language.xml file from the csc/common folder to csc folder and edit the file appropriately to show the new languages as per the files you copied to the T9DB folder.

apurva, since you are focussing on the language aspect, is that the only difference between lsc and lsz ( according to dev's consensus as you say) or is there any other benefit of lsz ? thanks

I have used all the three stocks, the XXLSC, XXLSZ and DDLSC, on my phone. As a regular end user, I didnt see much difference except the CSC part. Experts can comment on why Samsung needed to update the LSC to LSZ, both being 4.1.2
Why I am doing the language pack is so that common users like me, whose native language is not based upon the english font script and who want try customs ROMs, but miss out on their regional languages, can flash these packs and have the best of both.
With my ROM, to try if the language pack works, I stripped down the XXLSZ to the applications that I use and then I integrated DDLSC's language files into it.
These flash doesnt wipe anything. As far as I know, none of the custom ROMs have the language files modded. At the most, they are removed. These packs basically put the regional language files onto the ROM. So technically, these packs should work with any ROM.
I have tested my ROM with the DDLSC pack as well as the XXLSZ pack. Both work fine. I need others, whose font scripts I do not understand (South asians, Arabic, etc) to try out the packs and let me know if it works.
With my connection speed of 512kbps, there is only so much I can download in one go. I will download the stocks and make the language packs one at a time.

Careful: you're starting to mix ICS and JB sources. Not sure if this is a good idea. I'm waiting for Thai (of course) but I wouldn't use ICS packs in my JB roms - I'm not even sure this will work without errors.
