VLOG-29 fingerprint issue - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi guys, yeah its an old phone but i have a new issue which is greatly ignored by Huawei.
The fingerprint identification gone from phone.
I tried to restart, open-close oem lock, reinstall phone, factory reset so on. Some of that is done multiple times. Still cannot get it back.
If anyone fixed that issue please enlighten me.
Thanks
John

Hi John, did you change hardware in the phone? On my P30 Pro screen was changed and after that fingerprint sensor is gone and not working anymore. I don't have it in settings options, nowhere in the phone menu, like was never there. I also tried to reset, downgrade firmware and upgrade again i also bought new fingerprint sensor (it's actually camera module, not a sensor) but new one is not working as well. I found some info on net, which is not reliable, of course, but some people say that fingerprint sensor is matched (registered) with the motherboard and if you want to change it you must do it in official Huawei service, they need to pair new hardware, one with other. I didn't do it but would like to have my fingerprint sensor again, so if you found the solution please let me know, thank you.

Fingerprint reader not functioning properly

I got my Mi Mix from China/HK (not sure which) from NIS-store in November. The phone has been glorious with the exception of the fingerprint reader.
I enter my fingerprint, one finger, whether once or multiple times, the result is the same. Immediately afterwards it reads well, a couple of hours later it's hit and miss. Half a day later it will not read my fingerprint at all. I've flashed every ROM, BL unlocked, installed TWRP, rooted and installed EU ROM. Cleared cache, davik and user data. I used water and a soft cloth to wipe the fingerprint reader and washed my hands until they're raw.
To compare, I recently bought the US version of the Huawei Mate 9. This phone has lots of problems and is going back, but the fingerprint reader is 99% accurate.
1) Anyone else have this issue and how have you addressed? (I contacted the seller who supposedly, by default, offer a one year warrantly. I am dubious.
2) Anyone know of a repair shop, US or China/HK that might be able to repair this?
Any input is appreciated.

Have you been facing this issue since November or have you just noticed this recently?
Before you send it out for repair, have u tried registering multiple fingers other than just your index fingers?
Can you also ask a friend or someone close, to try the fingerprint sensor. This is very unlikely, but I've heard that some fingerprint sensors aren't capable of scanning every type of fingerprint. While some people have very clear pattern\ridges on their fingerprints, it may be faint for others.
This is why I am suggesting that you ask a friend to test the sensor. This way you can make sure that it is the sensor itself which is defective.
I appreciate your response.
This has been ongoing since I received the device. I've never been able to, reliably, use the fingerprint scanner and count on activating my phone without the real possibility of having to use my pin.
The Mate 9 is the only fingerprint reader that has consistently worked. My note (4 or 5?) just wouldn't do the job and my V20 is just flaky (I guess I'm the flaky one, with so many phones).
I'll start out, renewed, with other fingers, then, if nt successful, get my wife to try the fingerprint reader.
Anyone else have additional suggestions, or email of a repair shop?

From what you say, it looks like the pattern of your fingerprint may be faint or hard to read compared to others. Because the other phones you mentioned like the Note 5 and V20 have really good fingerprint sensors. The Note 4 had a slow swipe-type sensor, so that has been a pain for me as well.
And the Mate 9 may have an excellent sensor or maybe its just the material on the surface of the Mate 9's sensor. Some glass sensors tend to attract even the slightest of moisture or sweat. I've noticed that the sensor of the Mix does this.
See if your partner's fingerprints work fine with the device. In that case, you can rule out that its a defective sensor.
And regarding repairs, I haven't seen any actual spares for the Mix due to the limited production of the device. So I doubt you'll find any repair shops that has parts to service the Mix.
Your best bet would be to send it to the seller for warranty.
Just so anyone interested will know, it's my faulty right index finger. After nearly 8 hrs using my left index finger and not a singe missed scan. I don't know what to think, except thanks to satishp for the insight and supportive words.
I had a problem in which my sensor crashed. I thought it was a hardware problem but a factory reset completely fixed the problem for me. If your device has ongoing issues across multiple ROMs, it is most likely a hardware caused issue.

Glad that I could be of help. Its good to know that the sensor isn't defective and you don't have to send it for warranty anymore. It would have been a hassle to ship your phone to China and not knowing when\if the seller would send it back.
Cheers!
The mod for this function did not disable it for me

Fingerprint: Same software security as Apple does ?

Hi, I've recently let fall my xiaomi mi5, which had to effect of broking the screen, and breaking the main fingerprint button ( a little rift appeared)
So I've ordered a new screen and a new button, and I’ve installed them, but the fingerprint didn't work ( the settings option even disappear), and the tactile function of the button didn’t work to ( only physical pressure work) Then, I thought that the button I ordered was bad, so I ordered another. And it still not works...
Then I thought that there is maybe a security software issue: when the mobile detects a different button signature, it disable those functions, as Apple do.
Does anyone knows if it's the case ?
And if there is a solution ( installing another ROM...)
And, moreover, my back camera does not work since I disassemble my phone, is there a trick that I should know for the connection ?
Sorry for the mistakes English isn't my native language, and thank you!

Backup your data & factory reset your phone. If that doesn't work, use miflash to flash fastboot rom. Could be you bought fingerprint sensor which came from another variant. That's why it won't work.
For camera, unplug it from the motherboard and attach it properly again. Might be loose connection. Check for debris and dust on the connection. Test the phone on the fly before assembling to save your time later on.

fingerprint sensor problem

Hi everybody!
Yerstaday my fingerprint sensor stopped working , all of a sudden. No special interaction or anything .
Restarted the phone several times, no success.
If I want to set up new fingerprint, sensor is not reading.
If I want to activate the button actions, there is no reaction, not even in the training mode.
Any suggestions to solve this? Anybody else with this issue?
I am on A 8 with Feb update.
Thank you!

Fingerprint Sensor not Working on P10

Hi,
I have a small problem with my Huawei p10. i bought on Ebay an replacment screen because my old one is cracked.
I pluged it in and find out that the fingerprintsensor dont works properbly, it says that i have to clean the Sensor (it is clean). So i returnd it and got a new one, but this one has the same issue.
On my old screen the fingerprint sensor works flawless.
Do i need to recalibrate the Sensor? If yes how can i do it?
i hope someone has a clue :fingers-crossed:
sorry for my bad english iam from Germany
no one has a clue ?
Did you come to any resolve my friend ? I just recently factory reset my P10 and sold it on eBay, now after a month the buyer has opened a case against me saying there is no fingerprint scanner option and it sounds like the problem you are having ? I know the VKY-L09 phone does definitely have one, and I've told the person to return my phone for a full refund. If they send the phone back I was considering doing a custom ROM flash process of sorts ? Maybe this will properly wake the fingerprint ID function up ?

Did you attempt any factory reset on your phone ? Is your fingerprint ID option missing as that's what the buyer is telling me.

The option is not missing, but the Fingerprint sensor just won't scan my finger reliable, like only 1 out of 20 times it works with the replacement screen. with the Original Screen it works instantly. A factory reset did not help .
if you find any solution for that problem tell me please

Okay interesting, until I get my phone back I cannot really investigate. All I know from the buyer is they've had the phone for a month now and said the fingerprint ID functionality is completely missing.
I have heard reports of the function just literally disappearing and that's it, Huawei have to replace the device but that wont happen since I'm not the original owner and the original owner never kept the receipt or stamped the warranty leaflet.
When / if the buyer returns the device I may look at flashing the firmware or the rom although I have not done this before...
I had the same issue with my P10 after I had to change a cracked screen. Everything went well for a couple of days. After a couple of days, I manually rebooted my phone and at this time, there was no more fingerscanner option in the menu.
Everything came back to normal after build b379/b379a update... I have a vtr-l09c654 rebranded to vtr-l29c432.
I have the same issue. I think it came with Oreo upgrade...Unlocking very slowly and only sometimes...
Original screen.

Do you think if I rebranded my P10 this would potentially do the trick ? I don't have knowledge or ROM's or branding so any quick tip guide to put me on the right track would help me a lot. I obviously cannot confirm the current firmware details to move forward until the buyer sends my P10 back.
Oh yes and I forgot my P10 is the VTR-L09 UK spec originally on EE but I had EE network unlock the device. Thank you.

I cannot assure you that the rebrand process will help, so it's up to you. In my case, the fingerprint scanner worked well after rebranding, and that a new firmware update helped to resolve my issue...
Finger scanner down again for no known reason...
did anybody found a way to fix it ?
Could it be possible that it's like the iPhone? Certain iPhone models disable the fingerprint scanner whenever they had a screen replacement job done ?
Anyone fix that problem? My fingerprint also stopped working after p10 screen replacement.

I had the same issue after replacing my screen by myself. Firmware update version b369 solved my issue... I never figured out how though...

As a matter of fact, I thought that I will never be able to use the fingerprint again... I was wrong, but as I said, I don't know how the problem got resolved...

Question Fingerprint scanner not working after display replacement

I just replaced the broken display from my Zenfone 8 with a Display + chassis pack from Asus (which includes a new fingerprint scanner as it's not accessible), and everything works fine except for the fingerprint scanner. I've seen someone had the same problem on the official Asus forum but his problem wasn't solved.
Obviously Asus seems to software-lock any swapped fingerprint scanner, including the ones they sell themselves. Do you have any ideas on how to bypass this lock or make them unlock it? Did anyone have the same issue and found a solution?
Thanks!

Hi, I have exactly same issue. Already written to my Chinese seller of screen replacement (it was supposed to be original) for help, but it seems one solution could be factory reset. Let me know if you've already tried it and if yes if it works ? I will come back as soon as Chinese let me know something...

Factory reset doesn't solve anything unfortunately, it need to be recalibrated
Yes, my investigation led me to the same point, I've already opened thread with Asus Support, finally ending with sending them phone. They haven't told me that they are going to calibrate, but I suppose they are going to do this finally. Have you passed this procedure or you gave up and you're using phone w/o fingerprint reader ?
So I'm after discussion with ASUS official service, they proposed to diagnose my phone and finally refused to calibrate claming that my LCD is not original... I suppose it is thier policy to "seal" spare parts distribution channels... Generally no hope for someone who bought part on AliExpress...
