Owner of a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8010 since 2012. - Introductions

Hi all, I have been the owner of a Galaxy Note 10.1 since it first appeared in my local store in 2012. However, one of the drawbacks with this tablet is that could not be upgraded beyond versions 4 and 4.1.
I recently noticed my tablet was getting slower so decided maybe an upgrade would help. I found a very instructive video on the web to help guide me through the installation of Lineage OS 16.0. However, after successfully completing the installation I am having an issue with the Kindle app. It has installed but each time I try to run it, at first appears OK but then vanishes. The upgrade has made a marked improvement in speed but I generally only use the tablet for internet browsing and for bedtime reading of Kindle books. I find the Kindle issue very frustrating so if anyone can come up with some ideas that may help it would be very much appreciated. Please bear in mind I am well into my eighties so try not to be too techie ... my brain is beginning to slow down, just like my Galaxy was! ‍

[Q] Possible stock ROM?

Hello XDA community,
This is my first post on here, yay!
I've been reading XDA a lot in the last 2 years, but never registered and wrote a post. Shame on me!
As most people here, I have a problem. I own this cellphone and recently it hanged on update. I've read here that both AT&T, Samsung and Windows haven't released the stock ROM so I went searching for it on Internet. Came across this site - samsung-file.com, I cannot post a link because of the XDA rules, and wanted to ask you guys about the possible stock ROM.
What do you guys think of it? Might it be the official stock ROM for this model? :fingers-crossed:
If so, it would be great to somehow push/flash it to device. (WP7 Downloader for I937?)
I tried few version of WP7 Downloader and none detected my Samsung Focus S. Probably because these Downloaders were made for certain models?
Anyway, I'm in a great need to restore my cellphone to working condition and I hold my faith in this possible ROM as it seems it is my last hope to get it up and running. Other solution is to send the device for repair... No one wants that...
Cheers!

Hello,
Well what can I tell you the last thing I did with the Samsung Focus S, is take it off from Demo mode. Because mine was a demo phone but now I am using it again. I had bought a Nokia Lumia 1020, but just today the screen shattered after many numerous drops on pavement, gravel, tile and flying of my car once, today it broke just hitting a wooden floor. Go figure. Well so I am back to my Samsung Focus S. I had tried many times looking for a ROM, but it was difficult couldn't find one, I did have many roms for my original Samsung Focus. If you want send me the link to my email [email protected] I can look at it if you want me to. It might help both of us. Right now I am not going to rush into buying a new phone, I've been hearing that the Nokia Lumia 1030 or should I say Microsoft Lumia 1030. I'll just wait and see what happens. on the mean time I'll be playing with my Focus S. One thing I do recommend you is switching to a windows phone 8 but if you can wait, for a Windows phone 10 which I'll be waiting, Even though they announced all windows phone 8 will be upgrading to Windows 10, But I'll wait until everything becomes more concrete, but on a side note, Microsoft stop supporting Windows Phone 7.8 so no apps are being developed, just something to think about. Hope to hear from you.
Hello, do you have some clean backup or restore point? It would help me a lot! I have a paper phone right now...

[Q] Advice on stable JB- or KK-based ROM

Hello! This is my first post on XDA, although I'm somewhat familiar with the site and I've done some searching - I don't think my particular inquiry has been posed.
My company purchased 50+ Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE (SGH-I957) tablets approximately 2.5 years ago. We also purchased a bunch of Nexus 7s (First Gen) about a year ago. The hardware on the Samsungs is still great for the most part, however we're trying to implement the same user experience across all of our devices. Obviously this is difficult because of TouchWiz, so I'm in the market for a JB- or KK-based ROM. I'm currently using an SGH-I957 with a cracked screen as a guinea pig (i.e., no big loss if it gets bricked).
I followed orlandoxpolice's guide and successfully flashed CWRM 5.5.0.4. So far so good.
My inquiry: I'm looking for JB or KK ROM that stays close to Stock and is stable, above all else. Our business needs are simple: internet browsing and occasional video playback. We connect them all to WiFi hotspots as well, so even the 4G radio functionality isn't that important.
Any feedback or recommendations are appreciated, as any additional life that can be breathed into these tablets would save us a lot of money. Thanks for reading!
The most recent Android version I've found thus far is 4.1.2, based off of nrvate's work on CyanogenMod 10. I've installed his Update 7 package.
I found out afterwards that it's Android 4.2 which first incorporated the Multiple User Account feature... alas!
Of course, any links or information on a stable 4.2+ ROM for the SGH-I957 would be much appreciated.

Fire comparison

Hi everyone, first time poster, though I have used the forums for a while. Apologies if this isn't the place for this question, but I couldn't find a better spot. I rooted my first-generation Fire (remember those?) a while ago and installed CM10 to get a more up-to-date version of Android than what came with the Fire, but the hardware is a little too old to run it well (just starting the Kindle book app can take close to a minute). I want to get the newest Fire 7 and put CM on it, and I was wondering how it compares with other "budget" tablets currently available, such as the Nexus 7, Zenpad S 8.0, or Galaxy Tab. Does it run comparably well, or is it really "bogged down"?
I didn't have much time with it hands-on, but I rooted and installed custom ROMs on a couple of them and they worked fairly well, no annoying stutters or lag. I gave one to my brother and he says it's working really well, himself having previously owned a 1st-gen Fire. If you still would like to squeeze something out of that one, I'd recommend going with Hashcode's AOSP 4.3 ROM, it always seemed much smoother to me than CM ROMs for that device.

It does the job, it's been quite fun to mess around with if they were the same price I'd go with the Nexus 7 despite the lack of sd but given it was less than a third of the price I could get an N7 for it's a bargain.
Galaxy tabs do feel bogged down to me, feel sluggish whenever I use my parents but suspect screen is noticeably better on those and the zenpad which I've never seen anywhere.
Thanks so much for the advice, both of you. I got a new Fire, put CM 12.1 on it (thanks to these forums, I knew to check the version before letting it on the wifi, and was able to prevent it from updating to 5.1.1) , and it is running great. I think I already tried Hashcode's AOSP 4.3, Duchman, and wasn't able to use it well (same issue - incredible slowness), but I might take another crack at it now that I have the new Fire.

Kindle Fire HD 7 (KFTT) Help.

Hello there! Semi Newb, long time XDA lover here. I believe this is my first post so please bear with me. My situation is quite weird, or i'm sure I could find help in another thread. All advise would be greatly appreciated! If this is the wrong place to post, please move.
I recently went to a goodwill store over here in the US near the west coast. For you who do not know it is a legit thrift store. I picked up a mint kindle fire HD 7 for $12.99. The reason it intrigued me is I love kindles but hate the os.
As I spent maybe an hour in the store looking threw it, I noticed it has SU installed and was rooted already. I thought great! One step covered. I was a little concerned about security, connecting to my wifi at home although. I loaded some software and nothing came up.
I have an older kindle ,rooted, and got an android os working myself. I have also rooted, used TWRP to do the same on an older phone. So, I do have some experience but I am totally rusty. That was years ago.
I booted the hd7 into recovery (or whatever it might be called and noticed TWRP was already on it. It confused me because it was still running the amazon os.
So, my questions. Can I load a custom ROM and flash it with TWRP right off the bat as it is? I have apps on it now and use it as is. Should I somehow do a complete wipe, unroot, and start from scratch. Or just can i go through TWRP to do so.
I really love this devise. The speakers are quite amazing, the screen is pretty amazing compared to my old old old kindle, and its pretty snappy speed wise. I would love to get gaps. (google apps) and an android rom.
Here is some confusing, maybe helpful, info I got from a devise info app. Cpu-z will not work so i used a crappy app.

No these stupid juvenile names really are from the original OS .
Obviously you can only have confidence is a hacked device if you are the one who hacked it. There is no way of knowing who put what into it and how it was rooted.
If you do decide to do a clean installation make sure you do NOT put a recent "up to date" OS on there, you will make it harder to modify.

About me

Hey y'all, and thank y'all for welcoming me. I'm Philip, a 52 yr old tinkerer. I've been reading post and using help guides from XDA for yrs, just never signed up. The info on here is top of the line and more trustworthy than anywhere else. I bricked my girlfriends Galaxy tab and a couple other devices some yrs back and just recently recovered the tab with help from y'all and a laptop from my neighbor. I admit I like the easy way out and diligently to get some of this done via ota files but I had it done in no time with the laptop and Samsung Kies. She currently has a new scepter 8 qlink tab which is the worst performing device I ever touched and I've been reading some discussions on here about maybe rooting it and flashing an update or custom ROM. Aside from the scepter 8 we have C5_Stratus Elite from True Connect that operates fairly decent but either the phone or android 11 won allow display over other apps even if you enable it in developer mode. I think I read somewhere that flashing to android 12 might fix it. It's not a super big deal but I have a few apps that require it but not allowed due to low end hardware. Anyway that's my story for now. Y'all have a good day.
