Question Android 12 - Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2021)

So Android 12 just launched a few weeks back and just installed it. Doesn't seem that much different, especially the One UI interface. My main phone is OnePlus 8T and going from 11 to 12 was a huge difference in comparison.
What's your experience been like if you've recently upgraded to 12?

Galaxy note 20 ultra advise please

Hi guys. I was a huge Samsung fans for years, I left Samsung for LG and later huawei when I had pink lines on Samsung screens. I wanna get back to Samsung cause Huawei no longer has Google. I have held a note 10 plus in my hand and loved the feel and looks. But currently in my country I can't really get new notes 10 plus. I was looking at a note 20 ultra. I haven't seen anyone with it and shops don't have yet for display. When I do reviews people keep saying is huge compared to note 10 plus (when I see specs does not look much). I want your guys advice deciding in what to get. Is note 20 ultra, really huge and feels huge compared to note 10 plus? What's pros and cons from someone that had both, and should I try look for a note 10 plus or should I just go with 20 ultra?
The N20U is not much bigger than the N10+. Both are very nice phones.
Hubby has a N10+ with the Samsung SpiderMan case.
Since Samsung and Google have worked out a lot of the bugs in Android 11, I enjoy using the N20U more.
Android 11 is not my favorite Android OS (scoped storage), lol.
N10+ has Android 10.
N20U should receive updates for 3 years, I think.
You could debloat or root the phone...
I debloated my N20U, and use F-droid apps, and some apps from XDA developers.
S pen was moved to the left side of the N20U, and the power/volume buttons on the right side.
The camera bump is weird.
I currently have a stock 10+ running on Pie.
Pie is better than 10 or 11 with no scope storage.
The 20U is the only other Samsung I would consider until Samsung and Google gets their heads out of their ... .
A used 10+ in good condition at around $600 is a good deal. Running on Pie it's very stable and fast.
The battery isn't that hard to replace if you take your time with the rear cover and use isopropyl alcohol for that and the battery adhesive strips.
Had to resort to google search to understand what scoped storage is and from what I can see it's not necessarily a bad thing for users when it comes to security. Am i missing something?

Not needed. Wastes cpu cycles and your time for nothing.
In over 7 years using Androids have I ever had a malware issue scope storage would have help mitigate. In fact no forced factory resets due to malware, viruses or rootkits.
So why would I want to slow down my device and use more battery?

Lol, good you didn't get the S21U...
All you can do is back step to avoid stepping in the muck. For both Samsung and Android 2021 was a real bad year. 2022 doesn't look much better particularly for Android.
As long as the Note10+ Snapdragon is running on either Android 9/10 it's a fast, rock solid stable Note with one of the best displays out there.
I have 2; the oldest is over 2 years old running on 9. It looks and runs like new with one battery replacement. The newest one is 2 months old running on 10. To my pleasant surprise its UI looks and behaves almost identically to the one running on 9. Scoped storage is not active. Battery life is the same or maybe slightly better than the 9 variant.
It has over 100 more small Samsung system apks that Samsung used to preserve the UI compared to the 9 variant. It was a successful mode which is an impressive clean up of Google's mess. Samsung wasn't able to do near as well with Android 11 or 12 unfortunately.
Both my N10+'s will never run higher then Android 10 to preserve their UI and functionality.
I rejected the N20U because of it's variable refresh rate display (the N20U has a lower color rendering index), and display issues have been observed on all these newer post N10+ displays.
No 5G and no 5G issues which has also been problematic in implementing.
Android 11 is not an acceptable OS and 12 is even worse.
No cam hump but still has an excellent cam system. It's 7mm profile makes casing and holding the N10+ easier.

Comparing samsung s20 fe (snapdragon) to Huawei p30 pro (2020)

Hi, I am new here and need some advise.
I am choosing between Huawei P30 PRO (2020) and Samsung s20 FE (snapdragon). Key features of importance are camera, battery life, screen quality and performance. I am really having troubles with choosing between the two handsets.
Would someone share their opinion, especially if the choice was similar to mine or based on your experience of a specific handset over time.
Many thanks
I think Huawei is finished giving android updates to it's phones, heard they're moving to their in-house OS that has android app compatibility. at the moment you can side load play store (can't remember if the P30 was before the ban and ships with PS), in the future who knows. I'd take a look at each phones sub reddit before spending any cash. neither is perfect. some have been unlucky with screen issues, many have had none at all on their FE. I have them myself.
if you plan to keep the phone a while that should be a factor in your choice. very slow custom rom and mod development on the FE, Huawei is bound to be livelier.
I have both these phones and they are both great. I got the P30 Pro New Edition when it came out last year. It's still fast and has great battery life and the cameras are very good. Huawei are still updating it with security patches (quarterly I think) and it got EMUI 11 about 3 months ago. But EMUI 11 is still based on Android 10 and don't expect the Android version to be updated even if the EMUI version does. Also coming later in the year is the update to Harmony OS which may (or maybe not) remove all Play Store access. Personally I'm looking forward to Harmony OS as it will be nice to be running something different and I also own the...
S20 FE 5G. This is also a good device with decent cameras and battery life. It feels less premium in the hand compared to the P30 Pro but that's because it is a less premium device! It has a plastic back and a flat screen compared to glass back and curved screen on the P30 Pro - some may well prefer both of these differences on the S20FE. Updates are more frequent on the Samsung - monthly - and they have committed to it being updated for another couple of Android versions. Personally I would lean towards the S20FE because of the long term support on both devices, the P30 Pro may well be OK but we can't be sure what will happen in a couple of years.
I own both because I use the desktop mode on both phones and, if your bothered, DeX (Samsung) is slightly better than Easy Projection (Huawei) but both do a decent job if you are interested.

7 pro Android 11 beta 5 serious issues

All was well on beta 4
Beta 5 not so much...
I ordered another 8 pro bc I thought my Mobo was slowly dying out
Cameras went down but it was the app changed the cameras before I realized app
Then it stopped reading my sim cards . After the new camera swap then the bottom speaker and miss were down for a bit. Idk if it was a root thing not for sure but beta 4 was mint for me
not sure if it was Android 11 itself or that Android 11 saw the new hardware and went wanky, or what happened but Android 10 and sim cards woke up as soon as it turned on
same experience for me, camera was failing, signal was dropping and nothing worked/fixed it.
so i reverted back to android 9 using msmtool then android 10 again, not going to android 11 anytime soon

Question Worth the upgrade from the 9 Pro?

So little context. I usually hand my old phone down to my son. He currently has my old 7T while I have the 9 Pro. Is the 10 Pro worth it for me to upgrade to? Everything I read it seems to be much of the same as the 9 Pro with a better battery/cpu/gpu.
I did the $1 pre-order but on the fence if I should follow through when the actual purchase window goes live. Thanks for any input guys!
Hardware aside Android 11 isn't a pretty picture and 12 is a horror story.
If you're running on 9 or 10, stay there. 11 has issues but not near as bad as 12.
Scoped storage is a cpu cycle sucking fubar.
I have 2 Note 10+'s, one running on 9, the other 10. 9 is more functional. 10 I can work with but that's as high as these will ever go. Security is simply not an issue.
Android and its 3rd party developers will take at least 2 years to recover/fully implement Google's Apple like poor choices. In the meantime the users will suffer.
If your device/OS version is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be.
You lose nothing by waiting including your hard earned money... plus no time wasted on a forced learning curve.
I'm also on the 9 Pro and decided not to do the preorder. I'd rather wait a few extra weeks and see how it goes, but I'm most likely going to end up upgrading. I'm mainly waiting to see some reviews of the Global version, evidence of real-world battery life, and whether any of the developers I followed on 7/8 series are upgrading to 10 (most skipped 9).
Yes, OOS12 has its issues - I like A12 more or less, just not how OOS botched it - but I'm slightly hopeful about OOS13, and that's going to hit 10 Pro first when it comes out. I'm not switching manufacturers anytime soon because others make it hard to root (looking at you, Samsung), and I like having current flagship hardware for gaming and such, so the only thing to do is press forward.
Have my 9 Pro for 2 days now.
Just contacted network to exchange 9 Pro to 10 Pro as I'm still in cooling off period so my 10 Pro will be with me 5th April - that was said by network advisor.
Can't wait as I always loved OnePlus phones.
I also have iPhone 13 Pro Max as my daily phone.
Yes, it's worth the upgrade coz I bought it ;-)
I upgraded to the Global 10 Pro and anticipate a fun ride on XDA!

I got my OnePlus 10 Pro (EU/Europe) today, feels like a good phone so far.
USB-A instead of USB-C in charging brick - what happened OnePlus?
Get mine today only because yesterday I couldn't be at home when courier wants to deliver.
Nice phone so far. During the weekend will see if is worth to keep it.
I decided against it. My OP9P is the 12gb/256gb model, and the downgrade to 8gb/128gb isn't worth the other perks for me. Maybe they'll offer the other model at some point? If not I guess I'll wait and see how the Ultra does later this year.

Thanks for the reply, I've ordered it and will be getting it in 2 days.
I'm using both the 9 Pro and 10 Pro.
Pretty much the same except 10 Pro lose out on the macro mode which is very handy on the 9 Pro especially since it auto switch to macro when you want to take something closer.
If anyone else is considering...... I'll tell you to hold on to your 9 Pro until something better than 10 Pro is launched.
Well it's what you want ain't it of you want to upgrade why not but the camera on OnePlus 9 pro om oos 11 is way better then the rest of them but still the OnePlus 10 pro makes nice pictures
In reality, no, it's not worth it

Yes there is no macro available in the OP10 Pro but I don't care about it because I don't use it much!

Question Should I wait for OnePlus 11?

Hi folks, I've been a Xiaomi user for the past 5 years and I'm looking to change this because lately, all the Chinese variants of the devices lack essential bands needed in Europe. I used to buy Chinese variants, install miui.eu on them and enjoy paying less for them. Now that they've decided not to include Europe bands on them, I decided to come back to OnePlus. My last OnePlus was the 3.
What I'm curious about, is if it will be possible to do the same with OnePlus 11 and change from Chinese colouros to oxigenos and have a locked bootloader, like I have seen it's already possible on this device, and the 10T?
Thanks
Just stay on xiaomi or move pixel.
OnePlus is not giving us free tool to flash or fox our devices.
So most of people that tried that bricked their devices.
Go for xiaomi or wait next pixel
I do not think it's worth it.
Minimal differences compared to 10 pro.
It's kinda like a roll of the dice
OnePlus innovation has halted,
MSM Tool is behind a pay-wall,
OPPO dishing out C&D notices,
TWRP and ROM development essentially dead (largely due to no MSM)
OOS / ColourOS is atrocious
We have only just had a somewhat functional TWRP after a year
I would NEVER get another OnePlus (I have owned the 3T, 5, 6, 7Pro and 10 Pro)
I will likely move to a pixel device after.

Except for the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 which I'm after.
My options so far are:
Motorola x40
Nubia z50
Iqoo 11/11pro
Vivo x90 pro+
Redmagic 8
But none of them can run global version of the ROMs.
Xiaomi 13 pro is amazing and I can install the eu version or the ROM, but Chinese variant is missing band 20, so my option would be to wait for OnePlus 11

I'm in the exact same boat. I've had OnePlus for many years, started with the 7 Pro a long time ago. But this 10 Pro will be my last. That Cease and Desist topic is definitely the last straw for me, how can a company do such a 180 so quickly? From the best dev option to the worst in one major release.
Wish I would have got the 9 Pro instead when I was buying. But I'll keep the 10 Pro for a another year at least as it is a solid phone deapite the terrible company owning it now. Then I'll switch to Pixel most likely, seems Google has no intention of locking down Android, which is what it should have been all along.

Exactly how I feel. Before I felt completely safe developing with every other OP device.
I don't even want to compile a TWRP for this device as bricking is now permanent (unless I pay a third party)
It is a terrible thing

OnePlus has always been owned by Oppo, who is owned by BBK. BBK successfully fooled the western world into thinking OnePlus was something different to grow their marketshare and now they're too big to give a crap so they removed the illusion of separate companies entirely and brought the OnePlus team directly under the Oppo team.

no it wasn't. it was started by two ex-oppo employees with oppo support, but was separately operated. one of the two co-founders left around the oneplus 5 period and the 8t was the last oneplus phone released before Carl Pei (the other co-founder) left. oppo fully absorbed oneplus afterwards

The fact that it was run as if it was a separate company doesn't change the fact that it never was actually a separate company.

It wasn't a separate company. Oppo has always been the parent company. Google OnePlus ownership and look. Results older than last year say Oppo is a subsidiary of BBK and the parent company of OnePlus.
Don't bother responding, I'm not going to engage in this argument any further about an irrelevant garbage Chinese company.
OnePlus doesn't worth even for 1 cent
F*ck OppoPlus !!
We must strongly boycott this fake OnePlus !!
Am using Android for years now. Started with a Xperia X8. Went then on Nexus 4 and 5. After that I bought my first OnePlus. I had the 3, 5T, 6, 7. Still I'm rocking the 8T. But I made a big big mistake on buying the 10T.. I will try to sell this..... This was the best company. Now it's gone. They vanished the software, they terminated all development for latest series, they gave damn green lines in endless screen models of the 8-9 series after the so called Oxygen OS 12 (ugly buggy MIUI-Color OS 12-CHEAP OEM style Color OS). Instead of turning their ugly OEM software into Oxygen OS, they did the opposite. Honestly buy whatever you want EXCEPT OPPOPLUS.
So weird, everyone seems to hate OnePlus now. Times sure have changed since I had my OnePlus 3 where development was amazing. Sad. I'll be skipping OnePlus base on your recommendations
